The Twin NAPA 100s marked the final two of four races in eight days that comprised the ‘NAPA 500 Challenge.’ It was all Todd Gilliland  this weekend. If you have not heard of this newest Gilliland, you are missing out on some great NASCAR Racing – the K&N Pro Series

The 2017 season has been tremendous for the Sherrills Ford, North Carolina native. Todd is the son of NASCAR Driver David Gilliland  who won eleven races at Irwindale Speedway and grandson to former NASCAR Winston Cup Series and Craftsman Truck Series driver from California Butch Gilliland.

Gilliland led a total of 82 laps en route to his third K&N Pro Series West victory of the season. #NASCAR

Todd recorded a second-place finish in the K&N Pro Series West season opener at the Tucson Speedway. He then progressed to win the ‘NAPA Auto Parts 150’ at the Kern County Raceway Park, and the NAPA Auto Parts Twin 100 and ‘NAPA Auto Parts T-100’ at the Irwindale Speedway. Amazingly all three wins came from pole.

“The first race, we led a lot of it,” Todd Gilliland detailed of his Irwindale Speedway win. “We knew what we needed to change and my crew chief, Chris Lawson, really stepped up the game the second race and that NAPA Toyota was lightning fast. We were able to lead every lap and get the “W” there.”

BMR Teammate Chris Eggleston won the season opener. He was able to mount a fierce challenge late in the second race with his No. 99 NAPA Filters / H20 Fire Protection Toyota Camry, but Gilliland battled back to lead all 100 laps of that event.

“The last couple of laps I gave it all I could,” Eggleston said. “I came up little short.” Eggleston had tried to dive low, but could not keep ground.

“That’s what you have to do if you’re on the bottom here,” Gilliland said of the move by his teammate. “That’s how you get the lead. He did that and luckily I was able to cross him over there and get back to the lead, and then he did it again. It was fun. That’s the kind of great racing this track produces.

With top-three finishes in all four races of the NAPA 500 Challenge, 2016 Series Champion Gilliland netted a $10,000 bonus. Eggleston – the 2015 series champion from Erie, Colorado – was one of two drivers who each won a $5,000 bonus for finishing in the top five in all four races.

Just five days after kicking off the 2017 season at Tucson Speedway, NASCAR K&N Pro Series West teams will be put to the test with three races in a three-day span to close out the NAPA 500 Challenge series.

Today, the series will compete at the Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, California, for the ‘NAPA Auto Parts 150.’

The maximum starting field is twenty-six (26) cars, including provisionals. The first twenty-two (22) cars will secure starting positions based on the group qualifying process. The remaining four spots will be awarded through the provisional process.

The NAPA Auto Parts 150 will be 150 laps (75 miles) with a five-minute break occurring at or near the conclusion of lap seventy-five.

The two most recent champions in the K&N Pro Series West, Bill McAnally Racing teammates Chris Eggleston and Todd Gilliland, were the class of the field in the season-opening event at Tucson Speedway.

Eggleston was fastest in practice, Gilliland won the pole and the two drivers started on the front row, led all the laps and were running first and second at the checkered flag. Teammate Derek Kraus finished sixth. As they head into the three events this week, history is also on their side. Of all active drivers in the series, only Eggleston (Kern) and Gilliland (Kern, Irwindale) have wins at either of the two tracks.

  • Finished second in the season opener at Tucson.
  • Won the pole and the race last season in his only career start at Kern.

McDowell and Leavine Family Racing Unveil Special Paint Scheme

McDowell and Leavine Family Racing Unveil Special Paint Scheme

The Auto Club 400 will take place on Sunday, March 26 at 3:30 PM ET.

McDowell and Leavine Family Racing Unveil Special Paint Scheme

Michael McDowell and Leavine Family Racing (LFR) are excited to unveil a special paint scheme for the Auto Club 400, as the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) finishes out the West Coast swing of the 2017 season.

Coming off their third Top-25 finish of the 2017 MENCS season, LFR is thrilled to showcase the No. 95 Woodie Wagon Surfboards by LFR Chevrolet SS at Auto Club Speedway this weekend.

Similar to LFR's Rat Rod they unveiled in the modified car "Hot Rod" capital of the world in New Hampshire, the concept for the Woodie Wagon is intended to generate buzz in the NASCAR world.

Jeremy Lange, VP of LFR, is eager to showcase the Woodie Wagon and the Surfboards by LFR concept in California.

McDowell and Leavine Family Racing Unveil Special Paint Scheme

"Our intent with this special scheme is to show the NASCAR ecosystem the personality of LFR and the ability to connect with an audience," said Lange. "The mission of the Woodie Wagon and Surfboards by LFR program is to represent the car culture nationally and pay tribute to the local Southern California car culture."

McDowell is also looking forward to being a part of the second installment of LFR's car culture theme.

"Being from the West Coast, I am looking forward to taking NASCAR Goes West to a new level," said McDowell. "I mentioned last season that I wanted to build a Rat Rod when we launched that scheme, but now I might be convinced to build a Woodie Wagon as well."

LFR and McDowell are looking to finish the West Coast swing strong in Fontana and adding another solid finish to their resume for the 2017 MENCS season. McDowell's best finish at Auto Club Speedway is 31st.

"I think Auto Club is one of the most fun races of the season, because it hasn't gone through a repave, so it's old, it's worn-out, and it's bumpy," said McDowell. "The car and tire combination is finally just meshed enough to where you can move around and be not three-wide, not four-wide, but five and six-wide. It's crazy and the tires fall off – that is the biggest thing. I know it's hard to get at every race track, but that is when it gets good."

The Auto Club 400 will take place on Sunday, March 26 at 3:30 PM ET. Race fans can tune-in to FOX for live coverage and follow @LFR95 on Twitter for race weekend updates.

Joey Gase Races To Get The Message Out In Front of Thousands of Fans #ServiceKing300

OneLegacy is the non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through organ, eye and tissue donation in the seven-county greater Los Angeles area. With more than two hundred and fifteen (215) hospitals, eleven transplant centers and a diverse population of nearly twenty million, OneLegacy is the largest organ, eye and tissue recovery organization in the world!

On Saturday, March 25, OneLegacy will strive to further their mission to save and heal lives through organ, eye and tissue donation, comfort the families they serve, and inspire their communities to Donate Life by sponsoring NASCAR Driver Joey Gase.

“Really excited to be teaming up with One Legacy this weekend to promote organ, eye, and tissue donation and to honor Alex Guedea and his family. This is something that is very important to me and my family because of my mother who was a donor and helped save and improve the lives of 66 people!”

Alex Guedea loved seeing other people laughing and enjoying life. Sadly, at the young age of twenty-one his life was tragically cut short. Shortly after receiving that news, Alex’s parents were gently and compassionately confronted with the possibility of organ donation. For his family, it was an easy and unanimous decision. Based on the life Alex had lived, they knew he would want this and knew they would honor him with a decision that would allow him to give a lifesaving gift to others and allow him to be part of another’s miracle.

Joey Gase’s dedication to organ donation is very personal and he is well aware of the difficult decision the Guedea Family faced. Gase lost his mother, Mary Jo, in 2011 after a sudden brain aneurysm, and his family was asked if she would like to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. Joey was barely eighteen-years-old when his decision to donate her body helped sixty-six other people.

This 2017 season started well for Gase as he recorded his second best NASCAR Xfinity Series finish at the season opener in Daytona. Leaving the starting grid from the thirty-fifth position, Joey survived a wild race bringing home a seventh place finish in the #52 Donate Life Florida Chevy. Unfortunately, his Chevy Camaro suffered brake issues in Phoenix last weekend and caught fire.

“Auto Club is an old rough and fast speedway that has been putting on a great show for our fans these last few years!” Gase offered regarding his next race this weekend.

Joey’s car is regularly adorned with the face of his mother and/or others who have given the Gift of Life making his one of the most unique cars in all of NASCAR. He also makes regular appearances at hospitals and donor awareness-related events.

This weekend, Gase’s Chevrolet will feature a hood dedicated to One Legacy and urge fans to register to “Live, Love, Donate.” Joey’s passion for sharing the message about organ donation rivals his passion for racing and makes him an awesome role model for others.

NASCAR Race Mom guarantees  you cannot watch the video below without tearing up and getting motivated.

NASCAR Race Mom will be attending the ‘Service King 300’ at Auto Club Speedway***  scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on March 25th. You can bet we will be rooting for Joey, his long time Crew Chief Tim Brown and the #52 Jimmy Means Team.

Four BMR Drivers Set To Compete In NAPA 150

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West heads to Kern County Raceway Park this week for a special NAPA AUTO PARTS 150 event on Thursday, the second of four races in eight days that make up the biggest season kickoff in the history of the series.

The NAPA 500 Challenge features 500 laps of competition in those four races at three tracks, with big bonuses up for grabs.

Four Bill McAnally Racing drivers – series veteran Chris Eggleston, 16-year-old Todd Gilliland, 15-year-old series rookie Derek Kraus, and 18-year-old Riley Herbst – will be among those battling for their share of the winnings at the Kern County track southwest of Bakersfield, California.

Gilliland – a Southern California native who resides in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina – is focused on a repeat win at the high-banked, half-mile track. His victory there last year in the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry was one of six he scored during the season while capturing the championship as a rookie.

“I feel like our car at Kern County Raceway was one of our best we showed up with at a race track last year,” said Gilliland, a member of the NASCAR Next program that spotlights NASCAR’s rising stars. “I’m really looking forward to going back there. I feel like we’re going to be just as good, if not better, this year.”

Gilliland is coming off a second-place finish in Arizona at Tucson Speedway, where the series opened its season on Saturday. He is running the full schedules in both the East and West divisions of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series this year.

Eggleston – the 2015 series champion from Erie, Colorado – finished fifth in each of his two previous visits to the Kern County track, in 2015 and 2016.

“We’re looking to improve on our run from last year,” said Eggleston, who drives the No. 99 NAPA Filters / H2O Fire Protection Toyota Camry. “I felt like we had a good car. My BMR team had the car dialed in. We kind of got shuffled back on the last restart.

“The track is fast and a lot of fun,” he said. “It should be good racing there on a Thursday night under the lights.”

Eggleston is coming off a win in the season opener at Tucson. He would net a giant $100,000 bonus if he can win all four races in the NAPA 500 Challenge. Other bonuses are up for grabs in the program, as well, for drivers finishing in the top three, top five, and top 10 in all four events.

Kraus of Stratford, Wisconsin will be in the No. 19 Carlyle Tools / NGK Toyota Camry, making just his second series start and his first at Kern.

“I really like the track,” said Kraus, whose first laps in a K&N Pro Series car were at KCRP during a driver evaluation test session in the off-season. “It’s a great facility and it’s a track that’s fun to drive.”

Kraus finished sixth in his series debut at Tucson.

Herbst of Las Vegas is in his second year in the K&N West, running a limited schedule while competing full-time in the ARCA Racing Series. He finished fourth at Kern last year as a rookie. He wheels the No. 54 UFC GYM / NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry.

“I’m very excited to go back to Kern County,” Herbst said. “That track is amazingly fast and smooth. I love the high speeds of the track and the side-by-side racing.”

Herbst finished ninth at Tucson.

Thursday’s race, which is scheduled to be televised on NBCSN on March 28 at 4 p.m. PT, is the second event on a 14-race schedule for 2017. It marks the sixth visit by the series to Kern County Raceway Park and the first of two series races there this year.

Action on the track Wednesday night will include the BMR two-seater NAPA Toyota, as NAPA guests get to go for a lap around the speedway. NAPA guests on Thursday, meanwhile, will get to view all the racing excitement from a VIP suite.

From Kern, the circuit will head to Irwindale Speedway for Twin NAPA 100s on Saturday, March 25.

Race 4 of 33: DC Solar 200 at Phoenix International Raceway
Track Specs: 1-mile oval / 200 laps
Weather:  Sunny; 96 degrees
Race Winner: Justin Allgaier

Justin Allgaier and the BRANDT Professional Agriculture team had two reasons to celebrate on Saturday afternoon after winning the DC Solar 200 and claiming the first $100,000 Dash 4 Cash prize of the season. Allgaier led 85 of 200 laps on his way to earning his fourth-career NASCAR Xfinity Series victory and the first NXS win at Phoenix International Raceway for JR Motorsports. The victory earned Allgaier five NXS playoff points and moved him up to fourth in the championship standings, just 29 points behind the leader.

Starting fifth in the 200-mile race, Allgaier advanced to second by lap 2. When the first caution waved on lap 13, the 30-year-old relayed to the team that he was really good to start and was beginning to get a touch tight in the center. The team stayed out and on the lap-19 restart, Allgaier was able to stay with leader Erik Jones, surpassing him on lap 20. The two continued to battle, but Allgaier was able to maintain the lead until Jones got by on lap 29.

Back in second, Allgaier relayed that the BRANDT Chevy was getting tighter as he ran. The Illinois native fought as hard as he could, but faded back to sixth by time the caution fell for the end of Stage One at the completion of lap 60. The team opted to pit for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment to loosen up the No. 7 Camaro. Starting Stage Two in fourth on lap 71, Allgaier jumped to second by the end of the first lap back under green and retook the lead on lap 82. With 15 laps remaining in the stage, the JRM driver came over the radio to say he was starting to tighten up again. Second-place Ryan Blaney was starting to gain momentum and made the pass on Allgaier with 11 laps remaining to win the second stage. Allgaier's second-place stage finish qualified him for a spot in the Xfinity Dash 4 Cash leading into the final portion of the race.

Under the caution, the team gave the BRANDT Chevy four tires, fuel and an additional wedge adjustment. Allgaier started the final stage in fourth on lap 130 and quickly worked his way to second before another caution fell on lap 134. On the lap-138 restart, Allgaier took the green on the bottom and worked his way by Austin Dillon to retake the top spot with 62 laps to go in the race. When another caution came out on lap 156, the team made their final pit stop of the race, taking four tires when some opted to take two. The option put Allgaier in seventh for the restart with 37 to go, but it proved to be the right call as he was able to retake command of the race with 35 laps remaining.

On lap 168, another yellow waved for a spin and on the restart with 28 to go, second-place Jones got the jump, taking over the lead. Allgaier was able to work his way back by with 19 laps to go and ultimately held off his competitors over two more restarts to claim his fourth-career NXS victory in 211 starts and JRM's 32nd NXS win.

Allgaier beat Blaney to the line to earn his first victory with JRM. Jones finished third with Allgaier's teammates William Byron and Elliott Sadler rounding out the top five. The day ended with all four of JRM's entries finishing inside the top 10. Allgaier's Xfinity Dash 4 Cash bonus was his second with JRM.

Justin Allgaier, driver No. 7 BRANDT Professional Agriculture team

"Last year was tough. We had really good runs all year but we weren't able to get to Victory Lane, but these guys fought hard. This was the same group of guys we had last year, and to be able to do it here in Phoenix and win the first Xfinity Dash 4 Cash race. A huge thank you to them for what they do for our sport. I have to thank all of our partners here at JR Motorsports. Rick Brandt has been wanting us to get a win and we've be trying. A huge thank you to everybody back at the shop. This is a team effort. We had four really good JR Motorsports hot rods out there. How cool is it to get a Camaro to Victory Lane here at Phoenix?"

Newman Wins the Race / Larson Takes the Points Lead

Newman Wins the Race / Larson Takes the Points Lead Neither Ryan nor Kyle allowed the Phoenix heat to deter them. Temperatures inside the race cars reached 140 degrees on Sunday.

"It was beyond warm, it was flat hot," race winner Ryan Newman said from victory lane. "I got burns on the back of my legs I've never had before."

Sunday's win for Ryan Newman was his first in one hundred and twelve (112) races dating back to Indy in 2013*. Ryan Newman was the unexpected winner of the fourth Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race of the season after a late caution gave his No. 31 Richard Childress Racing team the chance to break a drought dating to 2013.

“I’ve lost count—that’s how long it’s been,” Newman detailed of his winless streak. “What a gutsy call by Luke. I called for two tires, and he called for none. I’ve won more races with no tires than I have with four. I’m just proud of these guys. We had a good car all day. We kept it out of trouble and collected in the end.”

Newman's 18th career victory was his second at Phoenix but his first since he won the Brickyard 400 on July 28, 2013, driving for Stewart-Haas Racing. The win was RCR's first since Kevin Harvick took the checkered flag on Nov. 10, 2013 at Phoenix before departing for Stewart-Haas the following year.

Kyle Larson proved he is the youngster to be reckon with after his third second-place finish in a row. Those consistent finishes propelled the California native into first place in the point standing despite a lack of a 2017 win. Larson has just one Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series win which came last year at Michigan International Speedway. His career best finish in the standings - ninth.

However, this is not the first time Newman and Larson have enjoyed a close encounter.

Kenny Wallace posted the tweet above after yesterday’s race. Larson was a mere seven-years-old and obviously excited to meet twenty-two-year-old racer Ryan Newman.
