Reddick Overcomes Early Issues to Win at Darlington for Fourth Victory of 2026

Reddick Overcomes Early Issues to Win at Darlington for Fourth Victory of 2026
Tyler Reddick hoists the trophy after winning #NASCAR Cup race at Darlington!

Overcoming a succession of issues inside his No. 45 23XI Racing Toyota, Tyler Reddick delivered a convincing victory in Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, beating runner-up Brad Keselowski to the finish line by 5.847 seconds.

The win was Reddick’s fourth of the season in six NASCAR Cup Series events, following his record-setting sweep of the first three races of the year. That four-victory total puts Reddick in the company of two pillars of the sport.

Only twice before has a Cup Series driver won four of the first six races in a given season: Dale Earnhardt in 1987 and Bill Elliott in 1992.

Nor did circumstances make it easy on the 30-year-old driver from Corning, California. With a malfunctioning alternator from the outset, Reddick had to conserve power by eliminating unnecessary electrical drains.

“I know never to give up,” said Reddick, who won for the 12th time in his career. “I think it’s very fitting that when we finally get our first win here at Darlington that the ‘Lady in Black’ would test us like that. We’ve been so close so many times. I mean, Lap 1 we had the charging problem where the battery wasn’t charging at all.

“All day long, just not running fans. Sweat my tail off inside the race car, and we knew it was going to be physical. Really worn out, but I guess I don’t need as much of that cooling stuff as I normally have.”

Justin Allgaier Rallies to Darlington Win

Justin Allgaier Rallies to Darlington Win
JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier celebrates 30th career series win.

Justin Allgaier’s formula for winning Saturday’s Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway was simple enough: Take advantage of excellent pit stops and muscle his way into the lead on the final two restarts.

After a slow pit stop under the third and final caution on Lap 127 buried the dominant car of Kyle Larson in fifth place, Allgaier seized the lead from Brandon Jones on the last restart with 15 laps left and beat Jones to finish line by 0.578 seconds.

Allgaier is the first repeat winner of the 2026 season, but his victory is the fourth straight for JR Motorsports Chevrolets.

“These guys have never quit all year-they won the race,” Allgaier said of his pit crew. “They’ve never given up. They were on top of it all day on pit road.

“We definitely weren’t the best all day. Kyle (Larson) obviously was amazing. He had us covered… I didn’t do a very good job with it all day, if I’m being honest with you. Probably one of the worst days personally I’ve had here at Darlington.

“At the end there, I was worried about Brandon (Jones) – he had a fast car – and I was worried that the 19 (third-place finisher Christopher Bell) and the 88 (Larson) were going to get through the traffic there.”

Pole: Kyle Larson

Corey Heim Storms to Truck Win in Stunning Last-lap Move

Tricon Garage driver Corey Heim celebrates in Victory Lane at Darlington Raceway.

Same guy. Different truck. Same result.

Driving the No. 5 Tricon Garage Toyota on a part-time basis, Corey Heim shocked race leader Ross Chastain with a last lap pass and collected his second straight victory at Darlington Raceway in Friday night’s Buckle Up South Carolina 200.

Heim was ninth for the final restart and used his tires to excellent advantage, making the pass for the win through Turns 3 and 4 on the final lap.

“I’m out of breath, for sure,” said Heim, who led three times for 28 laps and picked up his 24th win in 91 Truck Series starts. “Man, we had a set of scuffs laying, and they were five laps fresher than everyone else’s. It was worth a shot. I didn’t think we could win from where we were at.

“I felt like I made all the right moves. I had it three-wide coming to the white (flag) and bombed on in there on Ross (into Turn 3). I was shocked he gave me the bottom like that with fresher tires.”

Pole: Kaden Honeycutt

Kaulig Racing's 'Epic Undertaking' Fulfills Ram's Ambition

Kaulig Racing's 'Epic Undertaking' Fulfills Ram's Ambition

From Scratch to a Five-Truck Fleet

Kaulig Racing's 'Epic Undertaking' Fulfills Ram's Ambition

It was audacious, ridiculous and outrageous all at once, and Matt Kaulig knew it

Kaulig stood on pit road in the minutes before the start of the Feb. 13 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series opener at Daytona International Speedway, the track's lights high atop the frontstretch grandstands illuminating the 37-truck grid. Kaulig's new Ram truck team had yet to run a lap in anger, and already he could enjoy a moment of major accomplishment.

Five shiny Kaulig Racing trucks were scattered across the starting field. Only a few months earlier, the team had not even a truck fender, with the upcoming season an onrushing bull and the clock ticking.

"It was very, very, very surreal," Kaulig said. "For us to build five trucks -- we didn't even sign the Ram deal until the summer -- it was an epic undertaking. Some people in the racing world understand what we did to accomplish that, but they don't really understand how we did it. I mean, we had nothing.

"Daytona was an awesome moment."

Now the Truck season is three races old, and teams have been enjoying a three-week break before Race No. 4 today at Darlington Raceway.

Kaulig Racing's 'Epic Undertaking' Fulfills Ram's Ambition

Three races in, Kaulig executives are pleased to have had a top-10 finish in each race but are more excited by the fact that they "won" the rushed preseason construction process and have dominated much of the current talk about the Truck Series, in particular Ram's big splash at Daytona.

Darlington Raceway - Track History & Information

Darlington Raceway - Track History and Information

Track Too Tough to Tame

Darlington Raceway - Track History and Information

For 75 thrilling years, Darlington Raceway has been home to legendary moments, daring drivers, and the unforgettable roar of NASCAR's finest. Known as the "Track Too Tough to Tame," this iconic venue has tested the limits of skill and speed, where only the boldest conquer its unforgiving turns. From the first race in 1950 to today’s high-octane battles, Darlington has been the ultimate proving ground for racing greatness!

TRACK HISTORY AND INFORMATION

WHO WON THE FIRST SOUTHERN 500?

  • Sept. 4, 2 1950: Running of the first Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, NASCAR's original superspeedway race, the first for "stock cars." 75 cars entered the event while some 25,000 fans watched from the grandstand and infield. Race was won by Californian Johnny Mantz, the slowest qualifier in the field. He blitzed the field by using a hard-compound truck tire while others kept blowing tires throughout the race.

WHY WAS THE 1963 SPRING 300-MILE CUP SERIES RACE UNIQUE?

  • The race was run in two 151-mile segments, a new twist created by track president Bob Colvin. Broken into pair of 110-lap races. Joe Weatherly won first segment and finished second in second segment, which was good enough to be declared the winner via a special points system.

WHEN WAS THE TRACK REPAVED FIRST?

  • After local favorite Cale Yarborough won his first of a record five Southern 500s in 1968, the track had a reconfiguration of the old turns three and four (East end). $175,000 dollars spent to re-bank the venue as well as repave with asphalt. Banking now at 25 degrees in old turns three and four.

WHEN WAS THE FIRST XFINITY SERIES RACE?

  • April, 1980: First late model sportsman race (subsequently called the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series, and today’s NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series). David Pearson edges out Neil Bonnett and Dave Marcis as the trio are three-wide at the line. Held the day before 500 in the spring.

HAS THERE EVER BEEN A MOVIE OR TV SHOW FILMED AT DARLINGTON RACEWAY?

  • Yes – actually twice. The first was the 1960 movie “Thunder in Carolina” that starred Rory Calhoun, Connie Hines and Alan Hale, Jr. (who also played the Skipper in Gilligans Island). The second was “Days of Thunder” in 1990, starring a host of notable actors, including Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Nicole Kidman, Michael Rooker and John C. Reilly.

WHAT YEAR WAS THE TRACK FLIPPED AROUND?

  • 1997. Darlington gears up for its most important year since the track opened in 1950. Because the track was able to purchase property on the "back" side of the track (off Indian Branch Road), it is decided to "switch" the start/finish line to the opposite side, thus making the old turn three the new turn one, the old turn four the new turn two. This will allow for expansion of new Tower seating. The old turn one becomes the new turn three, and the old turn two is now the new turn four. While the start/finish line was moved, the actual track surface was not disturbed. The asphalt and walls still the same.

WHO HAS THE MOST CONSECUTIVE VICTORIES IN THE SOUTHERN 500?

  • Jeff Gordon who pulled off the feat from 1995 through 1998. In his victories in 1997 and 1998 he won an extra $1 million bonus.

WHAT IS THE CLOSEST FINISH IN TRACK HISTORY?

  • March, 2003: The second closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series history is set March 16 in the spring 400-miler when Ricky Craven beats Kurt Busch by .002 seconds. It was one of the most dramatic finishes in the history of NASCAR with the duo trading paint over the last several laps.

WHAT YEAR WERE LIGHTS ADDED TO DARLINGTON RACEWAY?

  • 2004. Lights are installed at the venue to provide night racing for Labor Day weekend. Jimmie Johnson wins both Cup Series races at Darlington, including the Southern 500, the next-to-last-race of the season, which was the first event held under the lights.

WHAT YEAR DID THROWBACK WEEKEND START?

  • Sept, 2015: NASCAR’s original superspeedway introduces its first “Throwback Weekend,” to honor drivers and teams from NASCAR’s past. Teams were encouraged to run alternate throwback paint schemes from racers in the past, plus the entire industry got involved with throwback uniforms, while broadcast partners bringing back legendary broadcasters.

WHAT SPORTS VENUE HOSTED THE FIRST AND SECOND LIVE EVENTS DURING COVID IN 2020?

  • Track Celebrates 70 years of existence.
  • After a 15-year absence, Darlington gains its second NASCAR weekend back, adding a race date on Mother’s Day weekend in addition to Labor Day weekend.
  • Darlington Raceway hosted the first and second live sporting events in the country since the pandemic shut down all sports around the world. While some states wouldn’t allow sporting events, South Carolina did, and NASCAR conducted races at the 1.366-mile track, just two hours from many of the team shops in the Charlotte area. The races were televised but with no fans in the stands. Kevin Harvick wins the first race back, and a few days later, Denny Hamlin wins the second. Chase Briscoe captured the NASCAR Xfinity Series event.
  • May: Kevin Harvick wins the first race back, and a few days later, Denny Hamlin wins the second. Chase Briscoe captured the NASCAR Xfinity Series event.
  • Sept: Kevin Harvick wins the Cook Out Southern 500, the first Southern 500 sponsored by the popular restaurant chain.

WHO HAS SERVED AS TRACK PRESIDENTS OF DARLINGTON RACEWAY SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1950?

  • Harold Brasington (1950 - 1952)
  • Bob Colvin (1952 - 1967)
  • Barney Wallace (1967 - 1983)
  • Walter D. "Red" Tyler (1983 - 1989)
  • Woody McKay (1989 - 1993)
  • Jim Hunter (1993 - 2001)
  • Andrew Gurtis (2001 - 2004)

Hamlin Overcomes Speeding Penalty en Route to Las Vegas Win

A refocused and rejuvenated Denny Hamlin drove the dominant car to victory in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Cup Series victory was Hamlin’s first of the season, his third overall and second straight at the 1.5-mile track and the 61st of his career, good for 10th on the all-time list.

“I knew it took a few weeks to feel like driving,” Hamlin said. “Over the last couple weeks, I definitely regained my love of it, got refocused. These are great opportunities for us.”

His 61st victory broke a tie on the career list with Kevin Harvick.

“My name stands out amongst … there’s the legends of the sport,” said the 45-year-old Hamlin. “I feel very fortunate to be on the list. Those guys were far more talented than I have ever thought about being.

“I just work really hard. I still, to this day, work really hard at my craft to try to continue to get better. Days like today certainly make me feel happy about where I’m at in the sport still and what I can still do.”

Kyle Larson Wins O’Reilly Series Sin City Sizzler!

No matter the series, Las Vegas Motor Speedway agrees with Kyle Larson

Surging into the lead from the seventh position moments after the final restart on Lap 154 of 200, Larson pulled away to win The LiUNA!, becoming the fifth different winner in five NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races this season.

Larson crossed the finish line in Saturday’s race 2.557 seconds ahead of Chase Briscoe, who recovered from a brush with the outside wall and resulting flat tire to finish second.

“I was a bit nervous,” Larson said of the final run. “I knew the 00 (Creed) and Briscoe were ripping the top. I tried it once, and I didn’t feel good up there at all.

“I don’t know — clean air just must have meant a lot today. So, glad I was able to get the lead when it mattered.”
