Erik Jones and Bubba Wallace Join the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Watkins Glen

Erik Jones and Bubba Wallace Join the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Watkins Glen
The K&N Pro Series East ‘Great Outdoors RV Superstore 100’ at Watkins Glen is scheduled to be a forty-one (41) laps (100.45 miles) event, and will be run in two (2) segments with a 5-minute break at or near the conclusion of lap twenty-one (21).

Will Rodgers has won the last three NASCAR K&N Pro Series road-course events and is one of three former road course winners in Friday's field at Watkins Glen International.

Will Rodgers eagerly looks his fourth consecutive road course victory in the K&N Pro Series but he will have plenty of competition. Today the entry list includes Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series rising stars Erik Jones and Bubba Wallace, who are looking for more track time before Sunday’s race.

The wild cards will be Rev Racing’s Ernie Francis Jr. and Ruben Garcia Jr. Francis, the multi-time Trans-AM champ, won the pole at New Jersey in his first career K&N Pro start earlier this year and finished second to Rodgers. Garcia has extensive road-course experience in both the K&N Pro Series and NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series, where he’s the points leader.

K&N Pro Series East at New Jersey Motorsports Park

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series, which includes the East and the West, is the top step in NASCAR’s developmental ladder before driver’s progress to the three national series.

Since 2007, NASCAR K&N Pro Series veterans have made a significant impact at the national level, including 2011 Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne, 2015 Daytona 500 champion Joey Logano, and 2014 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion Chase Elliott, along with Ryan Blaney, Austin and Ty Dillon, Kyle Larson, Ryan Truex, Darrell Wallace Jr., and others.

The series introduces NASCAR fans to the next generation of stars, and the diverse mix of short tracks, road courses, and national series speedways appeals to a broad range of motorsports fans. With identical series racing throughout the country, the K&N Pro Series provides a cost-effective opportunity for young drivers to gain valuable experience and exposure to highly competitive racing.

Road-course racing is always the wild card in the championship picture for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. After a full round of racing around Tennessee and Virginia — five races at four tracks — the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East heads north for the twists and turns of road-course racing today. New Jersey Motorsports Park will host the series for the third consecutive season.

The field includes its regular collection of road-course experts, led by Will Rodgers and Ernie Francis Jr. Rodgers swept the K&N Pro East races on road courses last year, including New Jersey, and finished runner-up to Kevin Harvick in the K&N Pro West race at California’s Sonoma Raceway. Francis is making his series’ debut. The 20-year-old NASCAR Drive for Development driver is a four-time Trans-Am champion.

The JUSTDRIVE.com 125 will be 55 laps (126.5 miles) to be run in two (2) segments. The five (5) minute break will occur at or near the conclusion of Laps 28. At the conclusion of the break, lead lap vehicles that elected to pit will line up – in the order they were running at the beginning of the break — behind the lead lap vehicles that elected not to pit in order of running.

Road Course Ace Holds off Garcia Jr. In Overtime

Will Rodgers Earns First Career Victory #NASCAR

It was a day of firsts for Will Rodgers. In his first ever NASCAR K&N Pro Series East start, he became a first-time winner.

The Murrieta, California, native wheeled his No. 7 Solvang Brewing Company Ford to Victory Lane for the first time in his NASCAR K&N Pro Series career, holding off Ruben Garcia Jr. and Todd Gilliland on an overtime restart.

"We fired off right off the truck really well," Rodgers said post-race. "I knew we were going to have a really good piece for the race. It was just a matter of making the right moves at the right time."

Todd Gilliland came home in second-place, 1.493 seconds behind Rodgers and Harrison Burton crossed the start/finish line in third-place.

"We had a pretty good run from being ninth in practice," Gilliland said post-race. "We picked up a little from qualifying to qualify in the fifth position. And from there, we kind of rode for the first few laps and then those guys got off line and made a few mistakes and were able to slide by them. Just a little more mistake free than those guys I was racing. "

Burton maintains his championship series points lead over Gilliland by four points.

"Battling back was the biggest deal," Burton said post-race. "We just had an ill-handling race car in the first segment there. Fought back from that, got a little better at the break and had to capitalize on the restarts and cautions that came out. [...] solid points day, but we just got to look ahead."

"We fired off right off the truck really well," Rodgers said post-race. #NASCAR

K&N Pro Series West at Colorado National Speedway

Eggleston Hopes For Home Cooking This Weekend, Gilliland Has Other Plans

Todd Gilliland this weekend at his home track, Colorado National Speedway.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season hits the halfway mark with the NAPA/Toyota 150 at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, Colorado, on Saturday, June 10.

Hometown boy, Chris Eggleston hopes a return home will help him continue building momentum in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.  The 2015 series champion chipped into his points deficit at California’s Orange Show Speedway in the series’ most recent event, earning his first Coors Light Pole Award of the season en route to the victory, putting him within 11 points of the K&N Pro Series West points leader and Bill McAnally Racing teammate Todd Gilliland.

Eggleston’s victory was his second of the season — but it was his first since the season opener at Arizona's Tucson Raceway — and it snapped Gilliland’s dominant run of four straight wins.

Of course, the 2016 series champion, Todd Gilliland, of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina has different plans.   You can catch all the action in real time via your computer at Race Central Live 2017 .
