Jersey Mike’s Subs Renews Partnership With Auto Club Speedway

Jersey Mike’s Subs has extended its partnership through 2020 with Auto Club Speedway as the “Official Sub Sandwich” during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Auto Club 400 race weekend – March 15-17, 2019.

“Jersey Mike’s is an amazing partner that embraces our fans and the sport,” said Dave Allen, President of Auto Club Speedway. “They are involved with race weekend from feeding our fans to STEM Day to the Walk of Fame ceremony.”

Ticket holders can purchase Jersey Mike’s fresh sliced and fresh grilled subs at their restaurant during race weekend located in the Apex building in the heart of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Fan Zone. Jersey Mike’s will offer a limited sandwich menu as well as two hot cheesesteak locations in grandstand concourse levels.

“We are very excited to continue our partnership with the Auto Club Speedway, bringing the Jersey Mike’s brand to the fans of NASCAR!" said Jolene Leonard, Area Director / Franchisee, Jersey Mike’s.

During the Auto Club 400 race weekend, Jersey Mike’s will participate in the Speedway’s Walk of Fame Ceremony by presenting the 2018 Auto Club 400 winner, Martin Truex Jr., with a custom designed surfboard. Past Jersey Mike’s surfboard recipients include Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Larson. Ticket holders are invited to watch the Walk of Fame festivities on Friday, March 15 in the morning outside Gate B.

Jersey Mike’s will once again provide boxed lunches for over 500 middle school students during Auto Club Speedway’s STEM Day where they learn how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are extremely important to the motorsports industry.

In addition to the mouthwatering subs and other food options, NASCAR ticket holders have access to the O’Reilly Auto Parts Fan Zone offering multiple concerts, NASCAR driver appearances, sponsor activations, Monster Energy Smoke Show, Lefty’s Fun Zone and other family fun.

Farewell “Master of the Madhouse”

Glen Wood (July 18, 1925 – January 18, 2019) was a NASCAR driver from Stuart, Virginia. He and brother Leonard Wood co-founded the legendary Wood Brothers Racing team, sixty-eight years ago in 1950 and entered the NASCAR Cup series in 1953.

Glen won four races over an eleven-year racing career. He scored all four of his triumphs in NASCAR’s top series at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His success at the tricky quarter-mile track helped to earn him the title of “Master of the Madhouse,” a nickname that also acknowledged his dominance there in the featured Modified Division.

Wood’s driving days ended in 1964 as the sport continued to grow away from his favored short tracks to larger speedways.

Notably, Wood Brothers Racing is credited with inventing the modern pit stop, which cut the time its cars were parked for tires and fuel in half.

In 1996, Wood was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. In 1998, He was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998. He was also inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012.

Wood Brothers Racing is recognized as the longest active NASCAR team, and is sitting on a record of 99 wins over 1,459 NASCAR Cup races entering this season. Current driver Paul Menard finished 19th in 2018.

Glen Wood died on January 18, 2019 at the age of Ninety-Three (93) after a battle with illnesses.
