Ride A Segway Around ISM Raceway #NASCAR

In addition to the lap along the track’s apron and its infamous dogleg, the two-hour tour will take guests throughout the facility, highlighting unique areas at ISM Raceway. Guests will have their picture taken crossing the start/finish line before venturing down pit road and cruising through the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup garages. Guests will also visit Gatorade Victory Lane for a celebratory photo just like a NASCAR driver during a postrace trophy presentation.

Guests will also have the opportunity to ride through the midway, visiting the grandstand side of ISM Raceway. Additionally, guests will receive a behind-the-scenes look at ISM Raceway’s suite level, including NASCAR Race Control and observe the track from the perspective of NASCAR’s race officials.

The two-hour Segway tour is $89 per person. Guests that would prefer to stay on four wheels can enjoy the entire experience in a limousine golf cart for $39 per person.

R Entertainment Taps Bryan R. Sperber as President

R Entertainment Taps Bryan R. Sperber as President

Former Motor Sports Executive Joins National Experiential Marketing Leader

Former #NASCAR ISM Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber
Former ISM Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber

R Entertainment of Scottsdale, a special event, business development and concert entertainment company with projects nationwide, has tapped former ISM Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber, to serve as president.

Sperber is recognized as an innovative leader within the motor sports industry with a long tenure at International Speedway Corporation (ISCA), the publicly traded holding company of 12 NASCAR venues across the country, including the flagship Daytona International Speedway and ISM Raceway (formerly Phoenix International Raceway).

Sperber joined R Entertainment Dec 1.

Scottsdale, Ariz., based R Entertainment has a robust portfolio of lifestyle and concert events, and multi-day festivals with strategic partners across the country. Events include, for example, the 12-city USA TODAY Martha Stewart Wine & Food Experience culinary event series in partnership with Gannett, including MGM in Las Vegas; a national taco tour with COMCAST Spectacor, which manages more than 100 venues; a children’s festival series in conjunction with public television stations throughout the country; The Good Life Festival concert and lifestyle series with Shea Homes; and others.

“Experiential events like those by R Entertainment are gaining major attention, and this is an amazing time to join this remarkable team,” Sperber said. “The company is recognized for creating concert and culinary spectacles that mix interactive elements that patrons can make their own. R Entertainment is at the forefront of active entertainment experiences that are enjoyable, memorable and enriching for fans.”

Sperber began his 20-plus years in 1990, in a number of roles including serving as national sponsorship sales director of ISC and president of New York’s Watkins Glen.

For 16 years he led Phoenix International Raceway, now ISM Raceway, and concurrently served as chairman of the Los Angeles Auto Club Speedway for two years. At PIR, Sperber oversaw approximately $300 million in capital improvements that transformed the venue with a new grandstand, lighting for evening racing events, restaurants and bars, a state-of-the-art infield attraction and leading-edge technology.

A study of PIR by Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business found that the venue had an economic impact of nearly $400 million annually in Arizona, the result of the venue’s annual schedule of races and major events that draw visitors from across the country.

Kerry Dunne, partner & cofounder, R Entertainment, said: “Bryan’s track record of business development and creativity is a rare mix and a great fit for the next phase of R Entertainment. We’re excited to have his leadership, business acumen and longstanding relationships as we continue to grow our brand of entertainment experiences.”

Reed Glick, partner & cofounder, R Entertainment, “What a wonderful addition to the team. Under Bryan’s leadership, we are excited for the future of R Entertainment. We have so many opportunities to capitalize on and happy to have him onboard.”

Sperber was inducted into the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame, serves on the Fiesta Bowl Executive Committee, and is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO Gold).

Christopher Bell Triumphs In a “Must Win” Situation

Christopher Bell Triumphs In a “Must Win” Situation

#NXS ‘Whelen Trusted To Perform 200’ at ISM Raceway (11/10/18)

Facing a must-win situation, Christopher Bell, driver of the No. 20 GameStop Just Cause 4 Toyota, had a dominant win in Saturday’s Whelen Trusted to Perform 200 at ISM Raceway to earn his spot in the Championship 4 in Miami.

“I guess the biggest thing for me is that I accepted that we might not be going to Homestead and knew that we would have really fast race cars for the last few races,” Bell said. “I just tried to execute and not beat myself. I just get to drive really fast race cars, so that’s why I’m able to win races. It was more so the team coming through than me this weekend. Our backs were against the wall, and they show up here with arguably one of our fastest race cars we’ve brought to the race track all year. That’s why we got the results we got here today.”

Bell came into ISM Raceway 34 points behind fourth place, which meant, barring disaster for the drivers in front of him, the 23-year-old would need a win to be a part of the Championship 4. To start the race, he was in the back due to failing inspection and not posting a lap during qualifying. But not only did Bell claim victory, he made a statement while doing it, grabbing the lead on lap 108 and never looking back.

Bell’s win meant one less spot was available for the final round via points. Elliott Sadler, in his final season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, was on the outside looking in after an 11th place finish on Saturday. His JR Motorsports teammate, Justin Allgaier, was the car to beat at one point in the race, but contact between him, teammate Tyler Reddick and John Hunter Nemechek caused major damage to the right front, and eventually his brakes gave out. Allgaier finished 24th, one lap down, and did not advance to Homestead.

Joining Bell in the Championship race is last week’s race winner Cole Custer, who finished eighth, as well as Daniel Hemric, the runner-up on Saturday, and Reddick, who finished sixth. Matt Tifft earned a third-place finish, but did not advance to the final round.

“I knew the way the stages played out early on, we were going to have to win,” said Tifft, driver of the No. 2 Go Green Chevrolet. “I thought we had a chance, but just with that last caution, the 20 really took off and I just got a little too tight there. So, valiant effort. Like I said before the race, we’re going to have to go down swinging and on offense, and we were. That’s all you can do.”

The 2017 KNWest Sunoco ‘Rookie of the Year,’ Derek Kraus made his Truck Series Debut yesterday. A member of 2018’s NASCAR Next’s, Kraus started the ‘Lucas Oil 150’ at ISM Raceway in his Bill McAnally No. 19 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Tundra last night.

The youngster from Wisconsin has just completed his second full-time season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. He finished fourth in the championship standings but topped the series with four wins and five poles.

Derek also led the most laps and collected eight top-five finishes and ten top-10 finishes in fourteen 2018 K&N Pro Series West races.

Kraus’ experience and adaptability emerged quickly. He was fifth on the speed chart in the final practice session earlier in the day.

Further, despite a spin during round one of qualifying, the seventeen-year-old, who managed to keep his truck out of the wall, went on to qualify eighth in time trials.

Derek charged up to fifth in the early laps of the race. After being shuffled back to fifteenth following pit stops at the end of Stage 1, he worked his way back into the top-ten during the second stage.

Kraus was as high as fifth on a restart three laps from the finish, then took the checkered flag in eighth following a fierce battle in the closing laps.

“It was a great run for our first time out,” Kraus said. “The BMR crew brought me a really good No. 19 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Tundra. It was a bonus for the end of the year that we had a really good run.”

Kraus said he plans to learn from this first venture into the truck series.

“I needed to be a little more aggressive on the restarts,” he said. “That would help a lot, to get spots early while tires are really fresh and cold. We will learn and adjust from this.”

Team owner Bill McAnally praised Kraus and the BMR crew for their success.

“Derek did an outstanding job in making his first truck series start such a success, especially considering it was his first time to race at ISM Raceway,” McAnally said. “He didn’t hesitate to challenge the veterans of the series and race door-to-door with them.

Ty Joiner served as the #19 crew chief with John Camilleri, who was Derek’s crew chief this year in the K&N West entries, will be the truck chief.

November 11 #CanAm500 is SOLD OUT!

New-Look ISM Raceway - #NASCAR

The newly named ISM Raceway will also debut a new look this weekend. Beyond the top-shelf fan amenities as part of the $178 million renovation, the race track layout will be different. And it will be interesting to see how much of a variable that turns into for drivers in such a crucial race.

Most significantly, the start-finish line will move to the exit of what was Turn 2 of the one-mile oval. The anticipation of another new-look venue isn’t lost on the teams.

"This place has become a real show piece for the race fans,’’ said two-time Phoenix winner Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

"Back in March I got to tour the facility and see what all they were doing in the stands, the midway, a new pedestrian tunnel - all the renovations that will boost the overall fan experience. It's impressive. We've got close to 200 people from Cat Mining who are coming from all over the world and for them to not only see us put on a good race but experience the race in a whole new way will be awesome."
