Caleb Costner to Compete In #ARCA East Series

Dallas, N.C. native Caleb ‘The Lawman’ Costner will drive full-time in the ARCA Menards Series East for Costner Motorsports in partnership with Last Chance Racing (LCR), the team recently founded by Andrew Tuttle. While Tuttle will drive the No. 39 full-time in the ARCA Menards Series West and will attempt a few races in the East Series, it will be the reverse for Costner.

“We plan on racing the full season but my wife and I are expecting in May,”,” admitted Costner. “I may miss a few races due to that. I was also promoted to Sergeant at the beginning of this year. It’s a lot trying to get my schedule lined up with working full-time and racing as well. Big things for me hopefully to come in 2022.”

Derek Kraus’ Tire Strategy Earns Him the #NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Win

Wins After Starting Sixteenth in The Nineteen-Car-Field

Hailie Deegan, the Temecula, California native, was quickest (18.316 seconds) in the 90-minute K&N Pro Series East practice session ahead of Sunday’s 'New Smyrna 175' at New Smyrna Speedway

Practice speed proved most important as qualifying was rained out and starting position were determined by performance in the one and only practice session.

Top-Five in Practice

  1. Hailie Deegan (18.316 seconds)
  2. Drew Dollar (18.357)
  3. Brandon McReynolds (18.366)
  4. Sam Mayer (18.368)
  5. Colin Garrett (18.470)

Race Winner, Derek Kraus found himself starting sixteenth in his #16 BMR NAPA Auto Parts / Curb Records Toyota.

After being postponed to Monday night due to rain, Kraus, who hails from Stratford, Wisconsin, emerged victorious by using tire conservation in route to his second career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East victory.

“What really helped me (save tires) was running with Todd (Gilliland) for three years,” he said. “He was really good at saving tires. I just tried to remember back then and that’s what I felt like I did. I probably didn’t save the right front as well as I needed to because I was driving it in pretty deep, but I felt like I saved as well as I could. Brandon (McReynolds) and Hailie (Deegan) I know dropped way back, I didn’t feel comfortable dropping that far back, because track position is huge here.”

Kraus made his move with about forty laps remaining as leaders, Colin Garrett and Ty Gibbs, made contact while battling for the top spot.

“They were racing each other pretty hard,” Kraus recapped. “I had to stay on my toes for them to make contact and that’s exactly what they did. They drifted up in (Turns) 3 and 4 and I saw an opening so that’s when I took it. I might’ve gotten in the grass, but I got it done.”
The next event for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will be the ‘Zombie Auto 150’ on Saturday, April 6 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Harrison Burton won his third career #NASCAR K&N Pro Series East pole award

Huntersville, North Carolina’s Harrison Burton won his third career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East pole award on Sunday. The defending series champion drove his No. 12 DEX Imaging Toyota to a fast lap of 18.428 seconds/93.770 mph.

However, in the eventful and exciting conclusion, Todd Gilliland emerged with the victory by diving under Burton for the lead on the white flag lap and winning the drag race down the back stretch.

“Hard racing for the win,” Gilliland said of the battle. “That stuff is going to happen. We were both very hungry to get the win.”

Burton, led 79 laps, lost the top spot on Lap 131. But with two to go, he used a bump-and-run into Turn 3 to take the lead back. Gilliland, though, muscled his way by less than a half-lap later.

The victory was Todd’s sixth career in the East Series and was his 19th victory combined in the K&N Pro Series.

“Luckily we put this Toyota Camry in Victory Lane.” said Gilliland, who will be running a split schedule between the K&N Pro Series and Camping World Truck Series after winning the last two K&N Pro West titles. “I can’t thank everyone on my team enough. It’s a dream come true to be back here.”

“We were saving gas from the beginning of the race,” Burton said. “At the end of the race, you aren’t think about it when you are racing like that, but I’m sure we were pretty close. It was just two guys going hard for the win, that’s what we come to do, we are both racing for the W.”

Fans were able to watch the racing action through a live stream on FansChoice.TV. Additionally, the race will air on NBCSN on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East returns to the track on April 14 at Bristol Motor Speedway for the Zombie Auto 150.
