Hailie Deegan Signs Xfinity Deal

Multi-Year #NASCAR Deal with AM Racing in the No. 15

 

Hailie Rochelle Deegan is an American professional stock car racing driver. She competes full-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving the No. 13 Ford F-150 for ThorSport Racing. Deegan is currently a Ford Performance driver and formerly a Toyota Racing Development driver.

After much speculation, Hailie Deegan has her deal for 2024 and it is indeed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with AM Racing.  The organization announced an expansion to two cars, in order to get a partner for Brett Moffitt. It will be Deegan and she will be on a multi-year deal.

 

An announcement was made today by AM Racing. Hailie Deegan, according to Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, will be sponsored by Viva Seltzer and Airbox Purifier. As a Monster Energy athlete, I’d assume that they remain as a sponsor as well. However, only Viva Seltzer and Airbox were named as primary sponsors. So, perhaps not.

 

Deegan has been wanting to move up to the Xfinity Series. There are some who believe she will perform better in the Xfinity car than in the trucks right now.

 

This season is finishing up for the Craftsman Truck Series. Hailie Deegan gave it a go with ThorSport as her old team became TRICON Garage and a Toyota partner. Deegan has not performed to the level many expect of her at times. She’s been honest about her struggles.

 

However, in the one Xfinity Series start, Deegan showed a flash. P13 at Las Vegas in 2022. It might be getting out of the truck and into a new car that gets her pumped up. Or she might just be more comfortable with the driving style of the Xfinity car.

 

In 2023, for the Truck Series, she has just two top-10 finishes. If we go back to her ARCA days in the West Series, she had multiple wins and lots of top-5 finishes. Let’s see what she does in these Xfinity cars.

 

When you look at what AM Racing did this season with Brett Moffitt, it should be exciting. The former Truck Series champion, who just won at Talladega in a one-off, has performed well. He has eight top-10s and an additional top-5 this season. Not great, but there is potential.

 

Adding a second car should help. Especially at drafting tracks. Moffitt is a bit the opposite of Deegan. Great promise in the Truck Series, even now, but has struggled at times in the Xfinity car. Either way, it looks like a good deal and Deegan is happy to be part of the team.

Hailie Deegan is going racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. This is a big step up, and just about everything she’s wanted heading into this offseason. AM Racing is back with Roush Yates Engines. No crew chief has been announced.

No Surprise - Tony Stewart Wins in the Dirt

SRX Race at Eldora Speedway

 

Smoke (Tony Stewart) drove around Eldora Speedway like he owned the place during Thursday's SRX event at the Rossburg, Ohio dirt track. Oh wait - Stewart has owned the Big E (Eldora Speedway) since 2004.  Last night, he led all 75 laps of the main event to claim his first SRX win of the 2023 season.

 

With the win, Stewart is now a perfect two-for-two in SRX races at the track that he owns. The win was his fifth overall SRX victory and his fourth win at a dirt track. In addition to his two wins at Eldora, the three-time #NASCAR Cup Champion also has victories at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 and Knoxville Raceway. The only dirt track SRX race he hasn't won came last year at Sharon Speedway, where he finished second.

 

Stewart won both heat races to claim the pole for Thursday's race and dominated the main event before needing to hold off a hard-charging Hailie Deegan to claim the win. Deegan was in a back-up car after being involved in a six-car crash during the first heat race.

 

 

What was a bit of a surprise was the hard-charging drive delivered by second place finisher Hailie Deegan.

 

“That’s one thing people don’t realize, Hailie Deegan is a hell of a dirt track racer,” Stewart said. “If she gets to second, she’s going to put on pressure. I just had to try to get some clean laps on restarts, get in a rhythm and get going.”

 

Deegan was involved in a first heat crash when Austin Dillon, making his SRX debut, lost his radiator hose and slid straight into the outside wall.

 

“When it happened, I was immediately right behind him (Dillon),” Deegan told Frontstretch. “Nothing I could do in that situation. That’s the first time that’s happened to me, where someone’s blown up directly in front of me.”

 

Deegan finished the race in her backup car and received a huge standing ovation and tons of cheers from fans.

 

“Oh man, I don’t know what’s happened the last couple of weeks or what’s changed, but I feel a lot more confidence the last couple of months,” Deegan said with a broad smile on her face. “I feel like these last two or three races, it’s coming (together) and I’m starting to get those finishes, getting more speed and it’s all coming together.

 

“I’ve been working real hard the last couple of weeks and it’s really paying off.”

New Season of SRX Series Racing Begins Tonight

“Thursday Night Thunder” Back to ESPN

 

Kicking off six consecutive Thursday nights of prime-time racing action, the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) Series makes its debut on ESPN on Thursday, July 13, at 9 p.m. ET, bringing “Thursday Night Thunder” back to ESPN. The Camping World SRX Series pits champion-level drivers from different racing series against each other in identically-prepared race cars, competing on some of America’s iconic short tracks.

 

The first event will be at the half-mile Stafford (CT) Motor Speedway and will include 12 drivers from NASCAR and IndyCar racing in competition. Previous NASCAR Cup Series champions Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte and Brad Keselowski will be in the field racing against former IndyCar stalwarts Marco Andretti, Tony Kanaan and Paul Tracy. Rising star Hailie Deegan also will be in competition as will NASCAR Daytona 500 winners Denny Hamlin and Ryan Newman and former NASCAR stars Clint Bowyer and Ken Schrader.

 

Two-time NASCAR champion Joey Logano will serve as guest analyst for the first race, joining lap-by-lap announcer Allen Bestwick in the booth to call the action. ESPN SportsCenter anchor Nicole Briscoe will host the telecast while Matt Yocum will report from the pits.

 

The event launches a new, multi-year media rights agreement between SRX and ESPN that will see the series air exclusively on ESPN, bringing back the Thursday Night Thunder branding.

 

Thursday Night Thunder, which originally aired on ESPN in the 1980’s, saw legends of racing, including SRX co-founder Stewart, launch their careers.

In 2022, the series field featured a total of five NASCAR Cup Series Championships, three IndyCar Series Championships, four Daytona 500 Winners, five Indianapolis 500 Winners and four NASCAR Hall of Fame Drivers. Superstar Racing Experience Announces Additional 2023 Drivers

Marco Andretti, Paul Tracy and Ryan Hunter-Reay will compete full-time, with Josef Newgarden and Tony Kanaan racing part-time.

 

Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) has announced a slew of world- class open wheel drivers who will compete in the 2023 SRX Series. Marco Andretti, the reigning SRX Champion, will defend his title, racing full-time this summer. He is joined by IndyCar legend and SRX veteran, Paul Tracy, and IndyCar Series and Indy 500 Champion, Ryan Hunter-Reay, who is back with SRX full-time after making his debut last summer.

 

The trio is joined by their IndyCar contemporaries, Tony Kanaan and Josef Newgarden, who will be racing part- time in 2023. Kanaan, an IndyCar series, and Indy 500 Champion himself, will race in SRX 3 times this summer (Stafford, Thunder Road and Eldora). Josef Newgarden, a current driver for Team Penske and 2-time IndyCar Series Champion, will return to SRX for his second race, joining the field at Motor Mile on July 27th.

ThorSport Racing will partner with Ford Performance for the upcoming 2023 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series season and beyond. Racing into its 28th year of competition, the team also welcomes Hailie Deegan to its driver lineup.

Deegan, a California native, will enter her third full-time season in the Truck Series. She drove to a series-career-best sixth at Talladega Superspeedway this past season and was named Most Popular Driver for the second consecutive year.

 

She joined Ford Performance as part of its driver development program following the 2019 season and drove in a variety of different disciplines in 2020, including the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and ARCA Menards Series where she finished third in the point standings and won Rookie of the Year honors.

 

Deegan competed in the ARCA Menards Series West in 2018 and ’19, earning three victories during her time there. She also has a decorated off-road racing career and is the daughter of Motorcross legend, Brian Deegan.

 

Three-time series champion, Matt Crafton will enter his 23rd full-time season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series along with long-time ThorSport partner Menards.

 

Ben Rhodes, the 2021 series champion, is set to compete in his eighth full-time season in the Truck Series, following a season that consisted of one win, eight top-five finishes, and finishing second in the final points standings.

 

Following a breakout year that included two wins, and a spot in the Championship Four, Ty Majeski returns for his sophomore year at ThorSport Racing.

Deegan Looking to Build on Career-Best Finish at Gateway

 

Hailie Deegan started racing at the age of eight and has been the only female driver in the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro series, as well as regional series to win championships in 2013, 2015 and 2016, along with being the only youth to ever win the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro series Driver of the Year award (2016).

 

In Hailie’s first season driving in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (now known as the ARCA West) in 2018, she scored her first win at Meridian Speedway in Idaho, and went on to capture two more checkered flags in the 2019 season making her the only female to have won races in the K&N Pro Series to date.

 

Deegan, who races for David Gilliland Racing, returns to World Wide Technology Raceway, the track where she posted her career-best NASCAR Camping World Truck Series finish (seventh-place) last season. It was the best finish by a female competitor in the series not on a superspeedway. Now, the California native returns to the 1.25-mile track looking to get her 2022 season heading in the right direction. 

 

This year, Deegan has made 10 starts this season posting five top-20 finishes and an average finish of 24.6.

 

Last year at World Wide Technology Raceway, Deegan started 19th and raced her way up to a seventh-place finish; becoming just the fourth female in series history to post a top-10 finish joining Jennifer Jo Cobb, Natalie Decker and Angela Ruch.

What are they driving?

Fury chassis - designed by Ray Evernham and custom-built. The SRX team will handle final assembly and maintenance. The intent is to showcase driver ability.

How does it work?

*Drivers will randomly draw a crew chief and have a predetermined amount of time to practice and make adjustments *Race will have 2 -v15 minute heat races and a 150 lap feature race. *Six races total, spread throughout 2021 *Televised live on CBS

Hailie Deegan Demonstrates Her Ability

Hailie Rochelle Deegan started her career in NASCAR at the age of seventeen in 2018 while participating in the #NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. She managed to become the first female driver victorious in West Series races! She competed in the ARCA Menards Series West in 2018 and '19 for Bill McAnally, earning three victories.

 

She was the 2020 ARCA Menards Series Rookie of the Year, finishing third in the point standings and earned four top 5 and 17 top 10 finishes.

 

Hailie Deegan is currently in her rookie season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, driving the No. 1 David Gilliland Racing Ford. She is seventeenth in the point standings and third in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year battle.

 

NASCAR Race Mom has been watching Ms. Deegan’s on-track progress over this short four years and must express personal fatigue of hearing that Hailie is a ‘good female racer.’ Hailie’s aggressive performance at Knoxville Raceway last night in the SRX Dirt race proved her talent period, irrespective of gender.

 

 

 

Of the three dirt track ringers employed to spice up the second SRX race, Hailie Deegan provided the best showing spotlighted by her determined last lap pass of Ernie Francis Jr. for a second-place podium finish.

 

“My goal coming into this race was to prove to everyone that I deserved to be here. I feel like we did that tonight, running second to Tony Stewart, that’s a huge accomplishment for me,” said Deegan, “I feel like we just ran a clean race, we just wrapped the bottom, stayed consistent, ran my line and finished second.”

 

Deegan, who is splitting her SRX ride with Tony Kanaan, will be back in the series one more time this season: The July 10 race at Slinger Speedway. NRM cannot wait.

The 2020 Calypso Lemonade 200 consisted of 200 laps on a .686 mile paved track (137.2 miles)

It proved to be another solid run for Hailie Deegan. She started off the day fast, qualifying fourth (4th) putting her in a great starting position. She was fifth when the first caution of the race came on lap seventy (70) for the planned break. She brought her Monster Energy (David Gilliland) Ford to pit road for service during the five-minute break.

She remained in fifth when the race resumed since drivers returned to the track in the same position as when they pitted. Ms. Deegan hit all her marks and was able to advance to the last podium position (3rd).

This strong finish moved her within 12 points of the first place in the driver standings!

Ms Deegan became the first female to win in the ARCA Menards Series West in 2018. In 2019, she went on to capture two more victories in the ARCA West.

Deegan on LOR: "We struggled with the balance a little throughout the night. I was tight center and snapping loose on exit. My DGR-Crosley guys made adjustments during each pit stop and by the end of the race it felt pretty good. It was nice to get back into the top five and I have to thank CRAFTSMAN for coming on board with me tonight. It was fun to be back at a short track after all the big tracks we've race at so far this year."

ARCA Racing General Tire #ANYWHEREISPOSSIBLE 200

Tomorrow (June 26), at 6:00 p.m., the ARCA Menards Series will hit the “Tricky Triangle” for the sixty-seventh (67th) time. The series will kick off the big five-race weekend at Pocono Raceway with the General Tire #ANYWHEREISPOSSIBLE 200.

The starting field is limited to thirty-six, which includes provisional positions. There will be no qualifying.

The field will be set by:

1. 2020 Owners Points (1-20)
2. Random Draw (21-30)
3. Provisional Process (31-36)

However, there are currently only twenty entries; so it looks like everyone will get to race. 

The General Tire #ANYWHEREISPOSSIBLE 200 will be 80 laps (200 miles) and is to be run in three (3) segments. The race will have the first break, at or near the conclusion of Lap 20. The race will have the second break, at or near the conclusion of Lap 50. At the conclusion of the break(s), vehicles will line up in the order they were running at the beginning of the break.

RACE PIT STOP: No adding or moving tires to or from pit box once race has started. A maximum four (4) crew members may service car. No tires and fuel may be added outside of the break.

Since 2010, there have been 20 different winners in 20 races at Pocono Raceway. None of the previous winners are entered in Friday’s event, meaning one driver will make it 21 different winners.

Derek Kraus’ Tire Strategy Earns Him the #NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Win

Wins After Starting Sixteenth in The Nineteen-Car-Field

Hailie Deegan, the Temecula, California native, was quickest (18.316 seconds) in the 90-minute K&N Pro Series East practice session ahead of Sunday’s 'New Smyrna 175' at New Smyrna Speedway.

Practice speed proved most important as qualifying was rained out and starting position were determined by performance in the one and only practice session.

Race Winner, Derek Kraus found himself starting sixteenth in his #16 BMR NAPA Auto Parts / Curb Records Toyota.

After being postponed to Monday night due to rain, Kraus, who hails from Stratford, Wisconsin, emerged victorious by using tire conservation in route to his second career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East victory.

“What really helped me (save tires) was running with Todd (Gilliland) for three years,” he said. “He was really good at saving tires. I just tried to remember back then and that’s what I felt like I did. I probably didn’t save the right front as well as I needed to because I was driving it in pretty deep, but I felt like I saved as well as I could. Brandon (McReynolds) and Hailie (Deegan) I know dropped way back, I didn’t feel comfortable dropping that far back, because track position is huge here.”

Kraus made his move with about forty laps remaining as leaders, Colin Garrett and Ty Gibbs, made contact while battling for the top spot.

“They were racing each other pretty hard,” Kraus recapped. “I had to stay on my toes for them to make contact and that’s exactly what they did. They drifted up in (Turns) 3 and 4 and I saw an opening so that’s when I took it. I might’ve gotten in the grass, but I got it done.”
