Moses Recovers For A Top-Ten Finish

Moses Smith Recovers For A Top-Ten Finish At NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Opener

The No. 16 Hasa Pool Products Toyota Camry ran in the top ten during both practices at the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season opener. Moses Smith was third on the board in the first of two practices and eighth during the second. Smith went on to qualify the Hasa entry from Bill McAnally Racing in seventh for the first of five Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Bonus Challenge races.

Before a sold-out crowd, Smith moved toward to front of the field breaking into the top-five by the halfway point of the 150-lap race. A late in the race incident had the race finish under a green-white-checkered scenario. As Smith brought the No. 16 Hasa Toyota Camry to the checkered flag, a car spun in turn four. Smith avoided the wrecked car high in the corner only to be turned around by a lapped down car.

“So the season opener was not the finish I wanted,” said Smith. “On the last lap I was running in seventh with the leader in sight and a guy laps down spins me as we are coming to the checkered flag. I managed a 9th place finish. It was not the way I wanted to finish the race.”

“I’m so proud of Crew Chief Mario Isola and the Hasa/White Flyer Toyota team,” said Smith. “They gave me a great Camry for this race. We spent some time in Hasa Hospitality with over 500 fans. It was great to have them once again supporting us at BMR’s home track at All American Speedway.”

The Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts Bonus Challenge West race from All American Speedway race will be televised on SPEED Channel on April 8th. The next NASCAR West Series race event will be also on April 8th at Phoenix International Raceway.

Smith Top-Ten Finish Toyota Speedway

Moses Smith, No. 16 HASA Pool Products/White Flyer Toyota Camry Moses Smith, pilot of the No. 16 HASA Pool Products/White Flyer Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally has finished in the top-ten in all three regular season visits to the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Smith improved his percentages by finishing in 9th on July 4th. He is now eighth in the chase for the NASCAR Camping World Series West championship and only 79 points out of the top-five.

Smith put the No. 16 just outside of the top-ten during both practices. As the afternoon heat rose, the team prepared the No. 16 Hasa Toyota for qualifying. The track was slick after the local series finished their qualifying session. Smith went out seventh. He put down a lap of 19.009 seconds; he would start the 200-lap race on the outside of row 6.

Smith moved up to 10th before the break at lap 101. Smith radioed his crew chief, Mario Isola that the No. 16 Hasa Toyota ‘wants to step out’. The team made some small changes to the car. The track conditions continued to change as the track temperature cooled down. He moved into 9th after the final caution at lap 181.

The NASCAR Camping World Series West King Taco “200” will run on July 4th at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale and be televised July 16th on SPEED Channel’s Racing Across America noon pacific time. Please check your local listings.

Moses sings autographs
Moses Smith, pilot of the No. 16 HASA Pool Products/White Flyer Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally Racing finished the Toyota/NAPA AUTO PARTS 150 in eighth after being spun in the first lap at the event at All American Speedway. He is currently fifth in the chase for the series championship and only 38 points out of the lead.

Smith put the No 16 Hasa Pool Products Toyota Camry inside of row four in the starting grid in a field of eighteen NASCAR Camping World Series West racers for the 150-lap event.

After being spun during the first lap of the race, Smith restarted in eighteenth. It wasn’t long before the leaders were putting Smith a lap down. When the first caution flag was shown at lap 40, Smith had moved up to 12th looking to get his lap back. By lap 54, Smith has moved into the top ten. Still a lap down, Smith wasn’t able to take advantage of the “Lucky Dog’ provision. With 20 laps to go, Smith would make his final position gain and finished in eighth.

Quotes from Smith:

“Man, we had a good car Saturday night. The No. 16 Hasa Pool Products crew really hustled during practice to give me a great Toyota Camry. Qualifying put us in the 7th starting spot, which was fine by me, because that meant we would start on the inside. At the start, I had moved into 4th place before contact from a competitor behind me would send me spinning. Unfortunately I had to restart from the rear of the field.”

“Luckily there was no damage to my Toyota Camry and I was able to start picking my way back through the field. I could put that car anywhere I wanted. I think I made more passes on the outside line more than the inside…thanks Mario (Isola)! We were able to salvage an 8th place finish. All things considered, I think the night ended well. Thanks to all the HASA supporters that came out…see you in Phoenix!”
