Busch, Reddick and Cindric Complete First Day of Goodyear Tire Test

Busch, Reddick and Cindric Complete First Day of Goodyear Tire Test

Then Take in Some Downtown Austin Culture

Busch, Reddick and Cindric Complete First Day of Goodyear Tire Test - #NASCAR

Kyle Busch, Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric officially got the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) preseason underway Monday with a two-day Goodyear Tire test at Circuit of The Americas (COTA). Reddick and Cindric also got a step on the competition for Texas fashion when they return for the March 26 EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix.

The opening day of the Goodyear Tire test was highlighted by the fresh looks of Busch and Reddick, who open this season with new teams, car numbers and engine manufacturers, as well as Cindric looking to build off last season’s rookie-of-the-year campaign with Team Penske.

Busch was behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing (RCR) after spending 15 seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing driving the No. 18 Toyota. Ironically, it was the No. 8 RCR entry that Reddick departed after three seasons to settle in the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD with 23XI Racing.

TEST DAY EXCERPTS (Click link above for full audio files of the interviews):

  • Busch (on last year’s race and fan support in the market): “The fans here have been really great and been able to come out and support the NASCAR ranks. It’s been really, really cool to see that and seeing a lot of people in the suites and in the grandstands. We need that support. We need the fans’ support to be able to come out here and put on a good show. I think last year’s show was one of the best ones we had for much of the year. There was a lot made of that last lap and all the great racing that was going on.”
  • Reddick (on the first day of the test): “Here at COTA, it’s always a blast. It’s one of the most fun racetracks from a driver’s perspective just racing the surface itself. It’s a really challenging racetrack but certainly for me this team waited a long time to get to the track. Thankfully this tire test was on the schedule for us, and we were able to come out here thanks to Goodyear and take our first laps in a Toyota Camry TRD. For a first day, it went really well. We learned a good bit about how the differences of the car and excited to see how tomorrow goes and hopefully we can learn some more.”
  • Cindric: “Our cars its quite challenging; there is tire wear, the layout is a bit challenging, but you actually don’t run the conventional lines. You use a lot of the runoff. From a bird’s eye view, you kind of have to know the line to take, it’s not very intuitive on where to go. … You can be distracted visually by different lines or paint because you go up the hill and the esses and it’s just massive expanse of asphalt, but you have to do something with it. You have to keep inside the track and inside the curbs and not upset the car. So there’s quite a lot of areas on the racetrack that are that way which I feel like for me makes it fairly unique. In my opinion, fairly European-style circuit compared to some of the other road courses we have state side. I don’t think we get that in too many tracks we go to.”

Following Monday’s first day of the test, Reddick and Cindric were hosted by NASCAR at COTA Executive Director Bryan Hammond at downtown Austin’s Maufrais specialty shop to select and customize their own cowboy hats. Reddick chose a natural-colored Stetson 20x Beaver fur felt with a classic pinch front and a hair-on-hide band with silver pheasant and partridge feathers. Cindric went with a Dunn-colored Stetson 40x Beaver fur felt hat shaped with a pinched front. He customized it with a Western-style hitched horse band with a Reeves pheasant feather and had it torched to give it a worn-in look. Both also got their initials on the underside of their hats.

The trio returned to the track today to complete the second and final day of the tire test on the 20-turn, 3.41-mile permanent road course.

#NASCAR MENCS Tire Test Started In Las Vegas

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) Goodyear Tire Test At Las Vegas Motor Speedway on January 11th and 12th.

NASCAR MENCS Drivers, Jamie McMurray (Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates No. 1 Chevrolet), Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet), Joey Logano (Team Penske No. 22 Ford) and Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 Toyota) participated in the season's first Goodyear tire test on January 10-11 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"It's fun to come out and test, and I like coming to Vegas," said Matt Kenseth, the Kobalt 400 champion in 2003, 2004 and 2013. "It seems like everything has slowed down (on the track), which makes for better racing. I've always liked the race track, have had some good runs here and had some wins here. "It's a fun race track, a fun town and always a good environment, so I enjoy racing here."

Las Vegas, a 1.5-mile tri-oval, will host the season's third points race, the Kobalt 400, Sunday, March 12 (3:30 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

The test at the 1.5-mile track is the first of seven Goodyear has scheduled at this point, with six specifically for the Cup Series.

  1. – Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Jan. 10-11
  2. – Michigan International Speedway: April 4-5
  3. – Indianapolis Motor Speedway: April 25-26
  4. – Kentucky Speedway: May 9-10
  5. – Eldora Speedway (Trucks): May 15-16
  6. – Chicagoland Speedway: June 6-7
  7. – Atlanta Motor Speedway: Aug. 8-9

Chase Elliott got a lot out of the two-day session. "It's felt really good to get back going again," said Elliott, the 2016 NASCAR Rookie of the Year. "The time that passes between the last race and the first time you get back in a car seems like a long time. So, it's good to get back in, get acclimated and try to sharpen up your skills.
"This is a good place to do it, and it's similar to a lot of tracks we'll go to this season, so it's helpful in a lot of ways. Goodyear has been really good with how they've approached the test, and of all the tests I've done with them, this is as aggressive as I've seen them with making changes and trying new things with the tire. I think that's encouraging, and I hope they can take the data and try to help us provide some better racing down the road."

Goodyear and Walmart Collaborate to Support Troops (#nascar)

Goodyear Donates $100,000 to Support Our Troops® Organization

Support of the U.S. Armed Forces has been part of the fabric of The Goodyear & Tire Rubber Company for more than a century. Goodyear today announced a new extension to that support pledging a $100,000 donation to Support Our Troops®, a nonprofit nationwide organization that works to bolster the morale and well-being of America’s troops and their families.

Additionally, beginning today and extending through August 26, Goodyear and Walmart, another significant military supporter, will ask consumers to nominate a deserving military member or their family members for a chance to win a new set of Goodyear tires and a coveted NASCAR® experience, which includes a trip for four to a NASCAR race.

Nominations and donations can be made at www.walmart.com/goodyeartiresfortroops. Additionally, consumers can enter to win other NASCAR-themed prizes, Support Our Troops race-used Goodyear tires and more.

“Goodyear has a rich history with the U.S. Armed Forces and our unwavering support is reflected in this program,” said Steve McClellan, president, Goodyear Americas. “We are pleased to join forces with Walmart to show our appreciation for the military.”

“Having Goodyear and Walmart team up to raise money and awareness to better the lives of the men and women who protect our freedom is amazing,” said Martin C. Boire, executive director of Support Our Troops. “Companies such as Goodyear and Walmart do so much for our troops, from veterans’ hiring programs and other fundraising efforts and it doesn’t go unnoticed by our military members.”

Goodyear has more than 100 years of history building innovative tires and equipment to help support and protect U.S. troops and is the largest producer of military tires in the country. The tire manufacturer has helped build more than 150 blimps for the U.S. Navy and customizes its iconic Goodyear Eagle race tires annually to display a Support Our Troops message during two May NASCAR races in Charlotte, N.C.

The company was recently recognized as a Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs magazine for its leadership in hiring and supporting veterans. In 2014, Goodyear surpassed a three-year goal of hiring 1,000 veterans and since then, has renewed its commitment to hiring another 1,000 veterans over three years. Goodyear has implemented annual programs to raise funds for Support Our Troops since 2010 and to date has raised more than $1 million for the organization.

For the sixth straight year, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, exclusive tire supplier of NASCAR’s three major national series, is rallying NASCAR fans to support members of the U.S. Armed Forces through its “Goodyear Gives Back” charitable program benefiting the Support Our Troops® organization.

To kick off the program, Goodyear will once again transform its NASCAR race tires by replacing the “Eagle” sidewall design with “Support Our Troops” messaging on all tires used during Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This effort coincides with the launch of Goodyear’s charity auction at www.Goodyear.com/GivesBack, which features autographed NASCAR memorabilia, VIP race experiences and rides on the Goodyear Blimp.

Proceeds benefit Support Our Troops®, a nonprofit nationwide organization that works to bolster the morale and well-being of America’s troops and their families. To-date, Goodyear Gives Back has generated nearly $1 million in cash and product donations to support the cause.

“For the past six years, the Goodyear Gives Back program has helped us bring race fans and the NASCAR community together in showing support for troops and their families,” said Kris Kienzl, Goodyear’s NASCAR marketing manager. “The response has been overwhelming. More than 40 NASCAR teams, sponsors and tracks have joined this year’s effort by providing items for our charity auction and spreading the word among fans.”

Fans can get involved by visiting www.Goodyear.com/GivesBack through July 6, 2015 to bid on unique NASCAR autographed items, Support Our Troops tires and VIP experiences, purchase Support Our Troops® merchandise, or make a direct donation.

“The Goodyear Gives Back program has played a critical role in raising awareness and funds to better the lives of service men and women and their families,” said Martin C. Boire, executive director of Support Our Troops. “It’s a great symbol of support for those who sacrifice so much for our freedom.”

This year’s program is also a cornerstone of the “NASCAR: An American Salute” initiative, which highlights the sport’s ongoing support of the U.S. Armed Forces and veterans.

“The Goodyear Gives Back program continues to be one of the most visible symbols of military support during the Memorial Day race weekend,” said NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton. “We hope the combined efforts of Goodyear and NASCAR will encourage fans to show their support for the men and women who serve or have served our nation.”

Building on the success of last year’s Tire Talk videos with 2014 Sprint Cup Champion,  Kevin Harvick, Edwards expands the series with three new videos closely linked to Goodyear consumer tire benefits. “Each Tire Talk video highlights the grueling demands our NASCAR tires face in a fun and entertaining way,” said Kris Kienzl, Goodyear’s NASCAR marketing manager. “Ultimately, the goal is to help race fans understand how the science and technology of NASCAR helps Goodyear make better consumer tires for everyday driving.”

The New Goodyear Blimp To Be Named By Contest Winner

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company today unveiled an all-new, state-of-the-art version of its world-famous icon, the Goodyear Blimp. The new airship is larger, faster, and more maneuverable and builds on the company’s legacy as the world’s leading builder and operator of airships.

At 246 feet long, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company's newest blimp is 54 feet longer than its predecessor.

newest blimp is 54 feet longer than its predecessor.

The new blimp was introduced to media, Goodyear associates and dealers at an event held at Goodyear’s Wingfoot Lake hangar in Suffield, Ohio. The blimp is scheduled to begin test flights over Northeast Ohio later this month before going into service in the summer.

“The completion of the new blimp marks the beginning of a new era for our airship program and reflects Goodyear’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of aerial broadcast coverage and support,” said Paul Fitzhenry, senior vice president, global communications. “This airship will offer enhanced aerial television coverage capabilities, increased flight range to cover more events and an unparalleled passenger experience.”

This airship is the first of a new generation of Goodyear blimps that will be different in construction, appearance, and operation than the current fleet of blimps. The new helium-filled airship is 246 feet long, more than 50 feet longer than the previous blimps and just 18 yards shorter than an American football field. The blimp features a new paint scheme while retaining Goodyear’s logo and traditional blue and yellow branding on a silver envelope.

NAME THE BLIMP CONTEST

In conjunction with the unveiling, Goodyear announced the launch of a nationwide contest to name the new blimp.

Every Goodyear blimp needs a name and, once again, the company is inviting the public to participate in a Goodyear “Name the Blimp” contest. Entrants over 18 years of age in the United States and Washington, DC can submit a name for the new blimp by visiting:

One name will be chosen from the entries and the contest winner will join the Goodyear Blimp for a day of airship activities. In addition, nine runner-up winners will receive a set of Goodyear tires. The contest opens on Friday, March 14 at 9 a.m. EST and will close on Friday, April 4.

After 14 years of filling the skies, the “Spirit of Goodyear” airship retired after the Daytona 500. The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s longest continuous operated airship was overhead to provide aerial coverage for its final events this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.

Goodyear’s “Spirit of Innovation” joined the “Spirit of Goodyear” in a rare appearance by two Goodyear airships at the same event. The “Spirit of Goodyear” will be decommissioned with a very special retirement gift: a GUINNESSS WORLD RECORDS® achievement for the “Longest Continuous Operating Airship.”

“The Spirit of Goodyear has provided captivating aerial coverage of the biggest televised events in its 14-year history including many prominent NASCAR races,” said Paul Fitzhenry, senior vice president, global communications. “Sports fans around the globe have seen the Spirit of Goodyear’s aerial coverage and Daytona is an ideal venue to recognize those contributions.”

Since its launch on March 15, 2000, The Spirit of Goodyear covered NASCAR races, as well as some of America’s biggest events including the NFL playoffs, MLB All-Star Games, NBA Finals, Preakness, Belmont States, U.S. Opens, and NCAA football games.

As the Spirit of Goodyear retires, Goodyear is finalizing construction of an all-new Goodyear airship at the company’s Wingfoot Lake Hangar in Suffield, Ohio. Training flights on the new state-of-the-art airship are expected to commence in the near future. The new airship will begin a new chapter for Goodyear which has provided television networks with industry-leading aerial coverage since 1955. Goodyear began providing tires to NASCAR in 1954 and both companies are celebrating the 60-year relationship this year.

About The Goodyear Airship Fleet

Goodyear’s blimps are among the most recognizable brand icons, representing the largest tire company in North America. They have adorned the skies since 1925 and have served America as aerial aircraft carriers, surveillance airships protecting merchant ships and early warning radar stations through the 1950s. Today, the fleet consists of three North American airships - Spirit of America in Carson, CA; Spirit of Goodyear in Akron, OH; and Spirit of Innovation in Pompano Beach, FL.

Goodyear – 60 Years As
The Official Tire Of #NASCAR

This year, Goodyear celebrates its 60th anniversary as a key supplier to America's most popular motorsport – NASCAR, making it not only one of the longest-running supplier relationships in racing, but in all of sports history.

"All of us at Goodyear are extremely proud to celebrate 60 consecutive years of supplying race tires to NASCAR and its drivers," said Stu Grant, general manager of global race tires. "Since 1954 our involvement in NASCAR has been a proving ground for tire development, helping Goodyear provide superior performance and innovation both on and off the track."

As part of the 60th Anniversary celebration, Goodyear has teamed up with Stewart-Haas Racing Driver Kevin Harvick to create a new “Tire Talk” video series. These videos showcasing the grueling conditions NASCAR tires face in a fun and entertaining manner!

You will love the creative comicality in the three Goodyear videos posted below. NASCAR Race Mom watched them numerous time – funny yet NASCAR educational.  They really help to demonstrate the incredibly challenging demands that are placed on Goodyear’s Eagle NASCAR tires each weekend.

Much like the cars of NASCAR have evolved over the decades, today's Goodyear Eagle race tires bear little resemblance to the standard auto and police tires used in the early 1950s. Goodyear's dedication to tire performance led to purpose-built treaded bias race tires in 1957, to slick bias race tires in 1974, to the first radial racing tires in 1988, and just last year to the introduction of race tires using Goodyear's exclusive Multi-Zone Tread Technology.

"The evolution of our NASCAR racing tires has been a very exciting and rewarding project," said Grant. "We are looking forward to the next 60 years."
