Joey Logano – 2024 NASCAR Cup Champion

Joey Logano – 2024 #NASCAR Cup Champion

Ford Performance & Roush Yates Engines Win 3rd NASCAR Cup Series Championship In A Row

Joey Logano – 2024 #NASCAR Cup Champion

Team Penske’s Joey Logano won Sunday’s Championship race at Phoenix Raceway, marking his 36th career NASCAR Cup Series victory, fourth of the year, and his fourth at Phoenix. This win also marks the first time Ford has won the NASCAR Cup Series title three years in a row (Logano in 2022, Blaney in 2023, and Logano in 2024) and the first time that has been achieved by Team Penske. Logano is the first Ford driver to win at least three Cup Series championships and the 10th driver in NASCAR history, joining fellow three-time winners Tony Stewart, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, David Pearson and Lee Petty; four-time champion Jeff Gordon; and seven-time champions Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.

Joey Logano – 2024 #NASCAR Cup Champion

“Congratulations to Roger, Tim, Paul, Joey, and everyone at Team Penske on a 1-2 finish at Phoenix and the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship!,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “Both of the Team Penske cars were fast throughout the race and Joey did an amazing job on that last restart. We’re proud to have powered three NASCAR Cup Series Championships in a row, and it’s an honor to stand alongside such a talented and hardworking team.”

Joey Logano – 2024 #NASCAR Cup Champion

“I love the playoffs. I love it, man. What a race. What a Team Penske battle there at the end. I had a good restart and was able to get in front of the 12. He had a lot of long run speed there and that was all I had there to hold him off. We have three of them. That’s really special. What a team to fight through today. We went through a little bit of adversity in throughout the race. I can’t thank Ford enough and Shell and Pennzoil and Hunt Brother’s Pizza.  Paul Wolfe, what a crew chief I have. I’ve got the best team. I don’t know if I’m the best driver, but I’ve got the best team and together we’re very well-rounded and can show up when it matters the most. We’ve got a mentally tough team that can make things happen when it matters,” commented Logano.

Roger Penske: "We can see it already"

Kyle Larson Bringing Massive Following to IndyCar

Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson joins an elite list of NASCAR Cup Series drivers after deciding to double up on racing on Memorial Day weekend in 2024. Along with competing in the highest echelon of stock car racing, the #5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver will also be making his Indy 500 debut on the same day next season.

Larson will be seen running an Arrow McLaren SP car sponsored by Rick Hendrick during the 108th running of the famed open-wheel race held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With NASCAR topping the charts for popularity and viewership in the United States, the NTT IndyCar Series will also be benefitting from one of stock car racing's most successful drivers making his IndyCar debut.

NASCAR and IndyCar team owner Roger Penske spoke about the 'Kyle Larson effect' on 2024 ticket sales for the iconic 500-mile-long race. According to motorsport.com:

"We are so excited to see Larson come to the speedway, I know Rick (Hendrick) talked to me about running Larson and we hadn't had the success for a couple years. I think that his skill and his fan base in the Midwest is amazing. The interest from the fan base with (Kyle) Larson coming, we can see it already in our ticket sales. He'll be a great asset to Indianapolis and the 500," Roger Penske said.

Kyle Larson will be adding yet another crown jewel of motorsports as he chases the most sought-after titles in oval and dirt track racing. With a NASCAR Cup Series championship already under his belt, Larson has the potential to be the next Tony Stewart with an IndyCar championship win as well.

Ryan Blaney – #NASCAR Driver Summary

Ryan Blaney – #NASCAR Driver Summary

Penske Driver a Pillar of  Youth Movement

Ryan Blaney – #NASCAR Driver Summary

At 28-years-old, Ryan Blaney (December 31, 1993) remains a key pillar of NASCAR’s youth movement and an important part of Team Penske’s  championship-winning NASCAR program. Full of enthusiasm, passion and talent, Blaney is in his 10th season with Team Penske in 2021 and his fourth year racing full-time for the team in the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS).

Blaney earned a victory and raced his way into the NCS Playoffs in NASCAR’s premier series for the fourth consecutive season in 2020. He produced another thrilling victory at Talladega Superspeedway in June which made him the first driver since 2007 to win back-to-back races at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. Blaney tied a career-high in top-five finishes (11) and surpassed his most laps led in a season (668) during a productive 2020 campaign.

The native of High Point, N.C. and third-generation driver returns to the No. 12 team this season racing the Menards/Advance Auto Parts/DEX Imaging/BODYARMOR Ford Mustang. Blaney will begin his second season working with experienced series crew chief Todd Gordon and race engineer Miles Stanley, both of whom won the 2018 NCS championship in 2018 with Team Penske and driver Joey Logano.

Blaney first joined Team Penske as a talented but raw 18-year-old racer, competing in select NASCAR Xfinity Series races for the team in 2012. He earned his first victory for Team Penske with an NXS win at Kentucky in 2013 and Blaney has produced a combined nine wins and seven poles for the team over the last eight seasons.

In 2015, Blaney firmly established himself as one of NASCAR’s rising stars on the strength of 13 starts in the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang for Team Penske. He scored wins at Iowa and Kentucky and posted nine top-five finishes to help the No. 22 team win its third consecutive NXS owner title for Team Penske.

Blaney also earned an opportunity to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2015. He made 16 NCS starts for Wood Brothers Racing, Team Penske’s technical alliance partner. Blaney competed in his first full NASCAR Cup Series season in 2016, as he recorded three top-five and nine top-10 finishes for Wood Brothers Racing to finish 20th in the final series point standings. He also posted four top-five and six top-10 results across eight NXS starts for Team Penske.

In 2017, Blaney delivered NASCAR’s longest-running team its best season finish since 1995, when he captured his first career NCS victory and the 99th all-time win for Wood Brothers Racing over their nearly 70 years of NASCAR competition with a memorable triumph at Pocono Raceway. Blaney and the No. 21 Ford team raced their way into the Playoffs with a strong regular season and advanced to the Round of 8 before eventually finishing ninth in the driver standings. Blaney competed in 13 NXS races for Team Penske in 2017 and he earned two wins to help secure the team’s fourth series owner championship.

For the first time in eight years, Team Penske expanded to a three-car NCS program in 2018 as Blaney transitioned back to the team to compete alongside Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. Blaney returned to Victory Lane as the No. 12 Ford team won the inaugural Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The win allowed Blaney to advance to the Round of 12 in the NASCAR Playoffs and he eventually finished 10th in the final championship standings.

In 2019, Blaney earned a victory in NASCAR’s premier series for the third consecutive season and he also earned an NCS Playoffs berth for the third straight season. He produced a thrilling victory at Talladega Superspeedway in October that propelled him into the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Playoffs. As he finished a career-best seventh in the final championship standings, Blaney recorded career-highs in top-five (11) and top-10 (18) finishes.

Blaney has a wide variety of interests outside of the racetrack. His hobbies include anything related to Star Wars, basketball, Ohio State football, music and spending time with his dog Sturgill. He also co-hosts the popular The Glass Case of Emotion podcast on NASCAR.com.

Austin Cindric NASCAR Xfinity Win Report

Team Penske #NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Report -Daytona Road Course

August 15th, 2020 / Daytona Road Course

Austin Cindric #Wins / #22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang #NASCAR

Track:    Daytona International Speedway Road Course
Race:     UNOH 188
Date:     August 15, 2020

No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang – Austin Cindric
Start:  1st
Stage 1: 1st (Eighth stage win of 2020)
Stage 2: 2nd
Finish: 1st (Seventh career NXS victory)

Laps Completed: 52/52
Laps Led: 21
Point Standings (ahead of second): 1st (+48)

Notes:

  • Austin Cindric and the No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang team were victorious in the inaugural race at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course Saturday, winning the UNOH 188. The Mooresville, N.C. native led a total of 21 laps, en route to his fifth victory in the last six races of the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) season, tying the record of Sam Ard. Cindric won for the fourth time on a road course and has finished second or better in the last six races. He leads the NXS driver standings by 48 markers ahead of second place Chase Briscoe.
  • Cindric started the weather-delayed event from the first position after the field was per the new lineup formula which uses three performance metrics of the finishing position from the previous race (weighted 50%), the ranking in team owner points standings (35%), and the fastest lap from the previous race (15%) to determine lineup and pit selection order.
  • During pace laps, NASCAR decided the track was damp, allowing teams to pit and choose between slick and rain tires. Cindric started the 52-lap race on slicks once the green flag dropped. He took turn-1 wide, losing the first position but quickly regained the lead from Noah Gragson. He extended his lead before the first caution was displayed with three-laps remaining in the first stage. Cindric remained on track during the caution while most of the field came to pit road. Stage 1 restarted with a one-lap sprint and Cindric capturing his eighth stage win of the 2020 season.
  • Crew chief Brian Wilson made the call to pit during the stage caution for tires, fuel and adjustments. Cindric restarted 17th after a mixture of pit strategy shuffled the running order. Cindric raced his way to the 12th position before the caution waved for the third time on lap 17. With a series of cautions throughout the 15-lap stage, Cindric was able to battle his way to the second position at the conclusion of Stage 2. During the caution, Cindric came to pit road for fuel and tires and restarted the final stage in fourth.
  • Cindric quickly regained the runner-up position to race leader Chase Briscoe, where he ran until the caution was displayed on lap 42. The driver of the No. 22 MoneyLion Ford came to pit road for four fresh tires and fuel and would hold his position leaving pit road. With three cars remaining on track, Cindric would restart fifth with seven laps remaining. As the field entered turn 1, chaos struck as most of the field missed the turn and the caution was displayed once more with Cindric lining up second. He reclaimed the race lead with five laps remaining and never looked back to capture his seventh career NXS victory.
  • The NASCAR Xfinity Series is back in action with the Dover International Speedway double header. The first race will take place on Saturday, August 22 at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio followed by race two on Sunday, August 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

Quote: "I'm not sure anyone was really happy with their race car.  Unfortunately, I have a tough perspective of driving really fast high-grip race cars at this track, but great credit to my team -- the MoneyLion guys -- and everyone that puts this together -- Ford Performance, Roush Yates Engines, obviously everyone at Team Penske for working hard.  That's five wins on the year and back-to-back now.  I'm really proud of that.  I didn't feel like I drove my best today, but we executed there at the end where it counts and that's what makes these races so difficult to win."

“Congratulations to Joey, Paul, Roger, and the No. 22 crew,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “Anytime a Ford wins is special, but today is even sweeter, winning our 200th with Ford Performance and the Ford FR9 engine. Logano had a great restart and was able to take the lead over Harvick and control the race, holding the No. 4 off, taking the white flag .276 seconds ahead of Harvick.

“We learned that this No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford team is just stout and is not going to get beat if we have the opportunity,” commented Logano in Victory Lane.

“We learned that this No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford team is just stout and is not going to get beat if we have the opportunity,” commented Logano in Victory Lane. “We tried everything we could to regain our track position and get control back of the race. I knew that last restart was going to be crazy. I have to thank my partners, Moneyline, Auto Trader, AAA, Ford, Coca Cola, Snap on, everybody that helps this program at Team Penske. Roush Yates motors {Engines}. It was cool to see two Fords on the front row at the end of a race like that. This is a motor racetrack as much as we don't think it is. Proud of the team effort today.”

The Ford teams led a combined 210 laps out of the 316-lap race. The Stage 2 winner, Brad Keselowski led for a total of 82 laps while the Stage 1 winner, Harvick led 67 laps. They were followed by race winner, Logano with 60 and Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher with one lap.

Quotes from The NASCAR Duel Winners

Quotes from The NASCAR Duel Winners

Logano, Byron Win NASCAR's Daytona 500 Qualifying Races

The victory in the first 150-mile race last night earned Team Penske Driver Joey Logano a spot in the second row for the season-opening Daytona 500. Logano took the green flag from sixth on the grid in his #22 Ford.

It feels so good. I mean, obviously it's the Duels, not the Daytona 500, but momentum is momentum. Just T.J. does such a great job up on the roof and understanding the draft, and then working with this new group here, they're not new to working together but I'm new with them, and it's been a good partnership so far. Been pretty seamless and working out some of the kinks last week and being able to come to Victory Lane here in Daytona. Winning anything in Daytona is such a big deal, so just ready to go for the 500.

Just can't thank Ford enough. Aric Almirola, can't thank him enough. Boy, what a great push that he has given me throughout the run and a great partner out there to work with. It was awesome.

So excited that NASCAR is partnering with Coca-Cola and Xfinity, man. It's just such a great spot for our sport right now, so I'm excited to be a part of it and excited to run for a championship this year. (Joey Logano Winner of Race 1)

William Byron will join Logano in the second row, behind pole-sitter Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and teammate Alex Bowman, who earned the front row in time trials at Daytona International Speedway. Hendrick’s Motorsports’ driver Byron started his race from fourth on the grid in his #24 Chevrolet.

Yeah, we're going to use this momentum as it should be. I feel like we didn't luck into this. We've built something over the last year working with Chad (Knaus). He's allowed me to grow up a lot. I think he's held me accountable for a lot of things that are really good.

I just feel comfortable walking into the shop. I think that took me really till this year, this off-season, to walk in and just feel like a racecar driver and comfortable. That's a lot of credit to him and Tyler, Brandon, all the guys on the team.

Yeah, we just went out there and raced. That's what he told me to do before the race. He said, Race it, (William Byron – Winner of Race 2)

It was a 1-2 Team Penske finish, as Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski finished first and second in the Pennzoil 400. “The cars are fast, we showed it last weekend and able to show it again this weekend,” Logano commented in Victory Lane. “Roush Yates' motors, this is a big motor thing now. You’re on the gas so much, you don’t lift for the most part, you lift a little bit, that horsepower under the hood is a huge deal.”

“Congratulations Joey, Roger and Ford Performance,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “Joey drove a great race today. The Ford Performance teams have started strong this year and we’re proud to be powering the new Ford Mustangs with Ford FR9 horsepower. It’s great to celebrate another win with Ford Performance and see Team Penske, Stewart-Haas Racing, and Roush Fenway Fords finish in the top 10.”

The Ford Mustangs looked strong throughout the race with pole winner Kevin Harvick getting out to a fast start to win Stage 1 and lead the first 43 laps of the race. The Ford Mustangs went onto lead a total of 208 laps out of the 267-lap race by five different drivers; Harvick 89 laps, Logano 86 laps, Keselowski 17 laps, Daniel Suárez 12 laps, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 5 laps.

The No. 22 crew executed all day, putting Logano in great position to win Stage 2 and to contend for the win, but Keselowski would not go down without a fight. The No. 2 made a final lap charge and attempted to pass Logano on the last corner but could only get to Logano’s bumper. The teammates finished nose-to-tail, a mere .236 seconds apart. This win was the third consecutive win for Ford Performance in Las Vegas.

At the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit, BorgWarner President and Chief Executive Officer Frederic Lissalde presented IndyCar Series driver Will Power with his BorgWarner Championship Driver's Trophy®. Known as the "Baby Borg," it commemorates Power's 2018 Indianapolis 500 victory, the first ever by an Australian driver.

"The Indianapolis 500 is the greatest spectacle in racing and one of the most watched races each year," said Lissalde. "The presentation of these trophies to Will and Roger is the culmination of the celebrations for winning the iconic race and it is one of the events I look forward to most. To be able to recognize their accomplishment with individual trophies commemorating the win is truly an honor for BorgWarner."

The Borg-Warner Trophy® has a permanent home at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, so the Baby Borg was created as a keepsake trophy in 1988 and is presented to the Indy 500 winning driver and team owner(s). The likeness of the winning driver's face that is created in sterling silver and permanently fixed to the Borg-Warner Trophy also is included on the Baby Borg. This is Power's first Baby Borg trophy.

"Winning the Indy 500 was a surreal moment and an overwhelming accomplishment," said Power. "As a driver, winning that race is something you dream about every night. To be included on the Borg-Warner Trophy is an incredible honor. I'm so glad to accept this Baby Borg and it's something that my family and I will treasure forever."

Power's 2018 Indianapolis 500 win was historic for Team Penske owner Roger Penske
Power's 2018 Indianapolis 500 win was historic for Team Penske owner Roger Penske as he added to his legacy as the winningest team owner in Indianapolis 500 history, now with 17 wins. Penske's longevity is unmatched with Indianapolis 500 wins in five consecutive decades spanning 1972 to 2018. Penske and his team's accomplishments are legendary in the motorsports world across a multitude of racing disciplines. Cars owned and prepared by Team Penske have earned 505 major race wins, 578 pole positions and 34 championships.

The Borg-Warner Trophy was created in 1936 as a symbol of technology and innovation in racing. As the oldest, most famous trophy tradition, the Borg-Warner Trophy is the most sought-after motorsports prize.

The BorgWarner Championship Driver's Trophy

A one-of-a-kind replica of the Borg-Warner Trophy, the BorgWarner Championship Driver's Trophy is awarded each year to the winner of the Indianapolis 500. The sterling silver trophy is 14 inches high, weighs 5 pounds and rests on a beveled black marble base. The base is inscribed with the winner's name and year of victory, and includes a hand-crafted, three-dimensional sterling silver image of the winner, a duplicate of the image affixed to the full-sized Borg-Warner Trophy. BorgWarner established the driver's trophy in 1988 to provide the driver with a personal keepsake of their victory.

The BorgWarner Championship Team Owner's Trophy

In 1998, the company established the BorgWarner Championship Team Owner's Trophy as a companion to the driver's trophy. The team owner's trophy is presented to the owner(s) of the winning Indianapolis 500 racing team. Like the driver's trophy, the team owner's trophy is a replica of the Borg-Warner Trophy but features a band of art deco racing cars accented in gold to symbolize the importance of teamwork in the automotive business.

The Borg-Warner Trophy

The Borg-Warner Trophy features the sterling silver image of every Indianapolis 500 winner dating back to Ray Harroun in 1911. Made of sterling silver, weighing 110 pounds and standing 5 feet, 4-3/4 inches tall, the trophy originally cost $10,000 and is currently valued at $3.5 million. The Borg-Warner Trophy stays on permanent display at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. To give the winner and team owners a personal keepsake of their victory, BorgWarner established the BorgWarner Championship Driver's Trophy® (also known as the "Baby Borg") in 1988 and the BorgWarner Team Owner's Trophy® in 1998. Both are sterling silver replicas of the Borg-Warner Trophy.
