For many decades, Sonoma Raceway has been a significant race for ARCA Menards Series West competitors every time the venue appears on the calendar.

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, West Series drivers competed in a combination event with the NASCAR Cup Series at Sonoma once a year. Although the West Series now only has as a support event for the Cup Series weekend, the opportunity still exists for regulars to prove themselves against the upcoming generation of stars.

Seven of the last 10 West Series events at Sonoma have been won by a driver who has competed full-time in either the Cup Series or NASCAR Xfinity Series. The list of Sonoma West Series winners comprises names like Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Chase Briscoe and Sam Mayer, who emerged victorious in last year’s race.

As has become tradition with the West Series event at Sonoma, Friday is set to be a battle between the championship contenders and drivers seeking to gain experience. With the top five in the standings only separated by 18 points, a strong run at Sonoma is crucial toward sustaining momentum in the West Series title hunt.

Meet the NASCAR Cup Contenders

Meet the NASCAR #Cup Contenders

Who to Watch Heading Into Race Weekend at Nashville Superspeedway

As the engines warm up and the anticipation builds for race weekend at Nashville Superspeedway, all eyes are on the drivers poised to make some serious noise. Nashville’s concrete beast isn’t easy to tame, and only the best rise to the challenge. Here’s a look at some of the top contenders heading into the weekend.

Joey Logano

A former Cup Series champion, Joey Logano brings a mix of grit, strategy, and confidence to every track he visits. Known for his aggressive style and sharp race instincts, he’s especially dangerous late in a race when the pressure is on. He’s no stranger to chaotic restarts or bold moves when it matters most. At a track like Nashville, where tire wear and late cautions shake things up, he’s exactly the kind of driver who can capitalize. Don’t be surprised if the No. 22 finds his way to the front when it counts.

Joey Logano finished the last cup race in seventeenth (17) position.

Kyle Larson

When it comes to versatility and raw talent, Kyle Larson is always in the conversation. He’s proven time and again he can run up front on just about any track, including Nashville. With Hendrick Motorsports behind him and momentum on his side, Larson’s a threat to win every time he straps in.

Kyle Larson crashed and finished the last cup race in thirty-seventh (37) position.

Denny Hamlin

Denny knows how to run smart, manage tire wear, and position himself when it counts. If the race turns tactical (and it often does at Nashville), Hamlin could be right there when it matters most.

Denny Hamlin finished the last cup race in sixteenth (16) position.

Ross Chastain

Aggressive? Sure. Entertaining? Always. Ross Chastain doesn’t back down, and his fearless driving style helped him claim victory here in 2023. Don’t be surprised if he’s mixing it up near the front again this year, especially if the race turns wild.

Ross Chastain won the last cup race! (#1)

William Byron

Byron’s having a breakout season, racking up wins and running with confidence. He’s matured as a driver and has shown he can handle the pressure of big moments. On a track where precision matters, Byron has the tools to shine.

William Byron finished the last cup race in second (2) position.

Christopher Bell

Bell’s dirt track background gives him a smooth, steady style that works well on rougher surfaces. He’s been quietly consistent and always seems to be lurking when it counts. Don’t sleep on the No. 20 car.

Christopher Bell finished the last cup race in eighth (8) position.

The Wild Cards

And of course, don’t forget the underdogs and up-and-comers. A long race, late cautions, or strategy shakeups can put unexpected names at the front. Keep an eye on guys like Tyler Reddick (26th), Alex Bowman (29th), or even a rookie looking to make their mark.

Who Will Conquer the Concrete?

Nashville Superspeedway is a unique challenge. The concrete surface, tire wear, and the heat make it as much a mental battle as a physical one. These contenders have what it takes, but as we’ve seen before, anything can happen on race day.

Kyle Larson Claims Kansas in Dominant Fashion for Third 2025 Victory

On Sunday, after putting his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet on the pole on Saturday, Kyle Larson defended his victory in far more decisive fashion, leading 221 of 267 laps to win the AdventHealth 400 at the 1.5-mile track (Kansas Speedway).

The triumph was Larson’s third of the season, tying race runner-up Christopher Bell for most in the series so far this year. The win was Larson’s third at Kansas and the 32nd of his career, tying NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett for 29th on the career list.

“Great car, great execution today, too, for our team,” said Larson, who now will start to concentrate on the Indianapolis 500/Coca-Cola 600 double he’ll attempt for the second time later this month.

“Glad to not win by an inch right here this time and a little bit safer gap. But thanks again to the team. Congrats to all of Hendrick Motorsports, the engine shop, everybody there.”

Larson reached several significant milestones on Sunday. His career laps led reached 10,073, behind only Kyle Busch (19,440) and Denny Hamlin (15,613) among active full-time drivers.

Hocevar Holds Off Riggs for Truck Series Win at Kansas

Carson Hocevar survived last-lap contact from the Ford of Layne Riggs, bounced off the outside wall and half a lap later took the checkered flag to win Saturday night’s Heart of Health Care 200 at Kansas Speedway.

The victory was Hocevar’s first of the season in his second NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start this year, his first at the 1.5-mile track and the fifth of his career.

“I just thought I’d make it entertaining,” Hocevar quipped after climbing from his truck for a frontstretch interview. “That 34 truck (Riggs) was super, super good. This truck was really good on the short runs — I didn’t think he would get to us for how far back he was, but he was super good.

“Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve been in a finish like that where it’s been all out there. So credit to him. I know he was going for everything there.”

Brenden Queen Survives One-Lap Shootout to Win the Tide 150

Brenden Queen Survives One-Lap Shootout to Win the Tide 150

An unfortunate sense of déjà vu befell Brenden Queen when he saw the caution flag come out only a few hundred yards away from the start-finish line at Kansas Speedway.

It was only a few of months ago at Phoenix Raceway when a spin by Tim Viens on the final lap while Queen was leading forced him to defend the top spot during a one-lap shootout. An aggressive dive by Brent Crews in Turn 3 moved Queen out of the groove, handing Crews the victory and spoiling what had been a dominant performance by Queen.

Queen ensured no one got within range of his back bumper during the one-lap shootout that settled Friday’s Tide 150. A perfectly executed restart provided Queen the launch he needed to pull away from the rest of the field, resulting in his second ARCA Menards Series victory in his fifth career start.

“I let one get away at Phoenix,” Queen said. “Of course, that was going through my mind at the end of this race, but at the same time, that’s what a race car driver lives for, the opportunity to redeem yourself. These guys work so hard on this car, so the only thing I can do is take them to Waffle House tonight.”

Joey Logano Survives Texas Attrition, Lands First Win of 2025 in Overtime

oey Logano Survives Texas Attrition, Lands First Win of 2025 in Overtime

On an overtime restart, Joey Logano made it look easy. The reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion cleared teammate Blaney through the first two corners, as RossChastain charged into second from the bottom lane.

Two laps later, Logano was on his way to Victory Lane, having scored the second straight win for Team Penske after Austin Cindric won last Sunday at Talladega.

“The sport changes so quickly,” Logano said after climbing from his car. “It’s crazy how you can just ride these rollercoasters and just proud of the team. Finally got (sponsor) AAA Insurance into Victory Lane. They’ve been a partner of mine since I’ve been to Penske, so 13, 14 years. I’ve yet to win with them. It was awesome to get that done here.”

Logano had to work his way forward from his 27th-place starting position. He did so relentlessly and without the sorts of mistakes that doomed the winning chances of others.

“Slowly, methodically, a couple at a time,” Logano said of his drive. “We had a really tough pit stall situation. The pit crew did a good job of managing that and just grabbed a couple (of positions) here and there.

“The car was fast. I knew that yesterday. We just did a poor job qualifying. Just grinded it. Just keep grinding a couple here and a couple there and eventually get a win here. It’s nice to get one. Real nice.”

Larson is a Super-Sub in Texas, Grabs Xfinity Win in Double OT

Crew chief Mardy Lindley called his shot.

“We’ve got to stop to win,” Lindley radioed to driver Kyle Larson,  subbing for injured Connor Zilisch in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet.

Lindley was right. Larson made a late pit stop and proceeded to win Saturday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 at Texas Motor Speedway in two overtimes.

The victory was Larson’s second of the season, his second at Texas and the 17th of his Xfinity career, with Larson charging from the seventh position on a Lap 194 restart — behind six cars that stayed out on older tires — to win in two extra periods.

“It was a lot of survival, I felt like in that race,” Larson said. “I got in some wrecks, the balance we had to work on quite a bit. So, it was fun. I felt like if I could ever get the lead, I could stretch it out, but I couldn’t get by Justin (Allgaier). He was running where I needed to be.

“Thanks to JRM for letting me come run this thing here today. Obviously, I wish Connor was in the car, but it means a lot that they thought of me to call up to run this thing.”

Corey Heim Tames Texas, Surges to Third Craftsman Truck Series Win of 2025

Corey Heim Tames Texas, Surges to Third Craftsman Truck Series Win of 2025

At age 22, Heim is the youngest driver in series history to reach 14 wins. Friday night’s Truck Series race also was the first to go to overtime after 21 straight events had ended in regulation.

Heim was barely ahead when caution stalled the first overtime almost before it began. The restart in the second extra period packed a surfeit of drama into the final two laps.

Starting second to Heim’s outside, Ben Rhodes held his ground, racing side-by-side through the first two corners. As the drivers navigated Turn 3, both had to lift off the gas, allowing Daniel Hemric to make a strong move to the inside at the start/finish line.

But Heim pressed the accelerator, charged between trucks and surged into the lead, clearing Hemric and Rhodes in Turn 1. Heim pulled away slightly to beat Hemric to the stripe by 0.279 seconds, as Rhodes lost momentum and faded to sixth.

“I wasn’t going to let that one get away from me,” said Heim, who led a race-high 96 of 174 laps and gained an extra playoff point by winning Stage 2. “I’ve given up too many this year so far. I’m just overwhelmed — so many restarts there at the end and guys were taking me three-wide.

“I wasn’t going to let them take it from me… They tried to take me three-wide into (Turn) 1, and I drove until I couldn’t anymore.”

Max Reaves Scores Another Convincing Victory

Max Reaves put on a clinic Sunday afternoon at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, capturing his second ARCA Menards Series East victory of the 2025 season with a powerful and poised performance in the Music City 150.

Piloting the Cook Out-sponsored Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, Reaves led the majority of the race and only briefly relinquished the top spot following a restart where Tyler Reif surged ahead momentarily. Reaves wasted little time regaining control and drove away to the checkered flag, adding to his growing résumé in the ARCA East ranks.

Reif settled for a hard-fought second-place finish, while Nashville’s own Hunter Wright thrilled the hometown crowd with a strong third-place effort. Isaac Kitzmiller and Zachary Tinkle rounded out the top five.

The remainder of the top ten included Jackson McLerran, Takuma Koga, Becca Monopoli, Quinn Davis, and Nate Moeller.

Reaves’ victory at the historic Nashville Fairgrounds marks a major step forward in the young driver’s campaign, as he continues to establish himself as a title contender in the ARCA Menards Series East standings.

Larson Hits Half-Mile Haymaker, Dominates Bristol

For the second straight day at Bristol Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson dominated a NASCAR race and dedicated the victory to friend and PR representative Jon Edwards, who passed away suddenly during the week leading up to the race weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.

On Sunday, Larson won the Food City 500 NASCAR Cup Series race in overwhelming fashion, leading 411 of 500 laps and sweeping both stages.

“This one’s definitely for Jon,” said Larson, who finished second in Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, one spot short of sweeping the weekend. “He’s just a great guy. Successful weekend here. Wish he was going to be here with us to celebrate, but I know he’s celebrating with us in spirit.

“Just a flawless race once again here at Bristol for the 5 team. Really, really good car. That was a lot of fun.”

Kyle Larson Scores Dominant Xfinity Series

Pole winner Kyle Larson brought a bazooka to Saturday’s shootout at Bristol Motor Speedway.

His 37 opponents brought pea shooters to the “Last Great Colosseum” — or so it seemed, given the degree of domination Larson exhibited in winning the SciAps 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race.

The driver of the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet led 277 of 300 laps in securing his first victory in two series starts this season, his second at Bristol and the 16th of his career. At the finish, there were only 12 cars on the lead lap.

To Larson, the victory was a fitting tribute to his friend and PR representative, Jon Edwards, who passed away suddenly during the week leading up to the Bristol race weekend.

“It’s awesome,” said Larson, who finished second in Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. “I wish I could have won last night – just came up a little bit short. It’s cool to get a win this weekend for Jon and everybody who’s been a part of his life.

“We’ve got one more tomorrow (in Sunday’s Food City 500 NASCAR Cup race). There’d be nothing better than to cap it off with a Cup win for Jon and all of Hendrick Motorsports. … I’ve got a great car there for (Sunday). We’ve just got to execute like we did today.”

Chandler Smith Scores Truck Series Victory at Bristol

After charging into the lead in Friday night’s Weather Guard Truck Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Chandler Smith’s work was far from over.

The driver of the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford then had to hold off NASCAR Cup Series moonlighter Kyle Larson over a seven-lap dash to the finish to claim his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory of the season, his second at the 0.533-mile short track and the sixth of his career.

Smith also won the $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonus that goes to the highest-finishing Craftsman Truck Series.

“I’m more excited for the team than I am for myself,” said Smith, whose tenure in the No. 38 F-150 came in an 11th-hour deal at season’s end. “This group came together-we hired my crew chief (Jon Leonard) two weeks before Daytona … My life’s been really, really crazy recently, and there were a lot of unknowns about my future going into the season, and we kind of had our backs against the wall putting this group together like I said. But holy (crap), I wouldn’t want any different of a group than I had behind me.”

Kyle Larson Surges Late at Homestead-Miami, Notches 30th Cup Series Win

Kyle Larson proved himself the weekend’s most dominant driver at Homestead-Miami Speedway, winning two of the three national series races, capping off the extraordinary three-day performance with his 30th NASCAR Cup Series victory in Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400.

Larson seized upon a miscue by his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Alex Bowman, who put his pole-winning No. 48 Chevrolet in the outside retaining wall with six laps remaining Sunday. That contact allowed Larson’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to pass him for the race lead and jet off to a 1.205-second win — the 32-year-old Californian’s first Cup Series trophy of the year.

“I knew me coming towards those guys, they were going to start moving around and making mistakes, and I felt like if I could just keep pressure on Alex, he may make a mistake, and he caught the wall there, and I got around him easier than I expected to,” Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion, said. “Still had to work hard, though. My balance in clean air was really loose, just like those guys were. Hats off to the whole team.”

Justin Allgaier Earns Second Straight Xfinity Win

Justin Allgaier Earns Second Straight Xfinity Win

In one of the most dramatic finishes of the season, JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier took the lead on the final lap of overtime and held off his former teammate Sam Mayer for the Xfinity Series win — the ultimate “Dash 4 Cash” in the Hard Rock Bet 300 Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

For much of the day, it looked like 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson would answer his win in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Friday night. He led 132 of the 201 laps and held a 16-second advantage on the field when a caution flag flew with eight laps remaining, bunching up the field for that final overtime restart.

Larson chose the bottom lane for the restart, with second-place Mayer opting to pull his No. 41 Haas Factory Team Ford directly behind Larson’s No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet instead of on the front row alongside him. Just as the green flag flew for that final two laps, Mayer’s car hit the rear of Larson’s and knocked Larson’s Chevrolet out of shape

As that happened, the outside line of Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill and Allgaier zoomed forward with Hill taking the race lead. A lap later, Allgaier caught Hill and got around him for the victory — his first top five in 16 Homestead races and the second straight win for the reigning series champion

Hill finished third after Mayer passed him as well on the last lap.

“Just a testament to this team,” the 39-year-old Allgaier said. “Honestly, it was looking like it was one those days that wasn’t our day. We got behind but were able to persevere and to get this Chevrolet to Victory Lane is special.

“I just feel like this place has gotten me so many times.”

“I was actually bummed to see the caution flag come out but it worked out in my favor,” Allgaier added. “I’m bummed I maybe got the [weekend] triple from Kyle [Larson] because I think he’s going to have a great shot at [winning] it tomorrow. But we were at the right place at the right time and I’m really proud of this race team.”

Kyle Larson Pulls Unlikely Comeback Win

Kyle Larson Pulls Unlikely Comeback Win

Kyle Larson made a dramatic run to the checkered flag, rallying from a late-race spinout to methodically race back through the field and pass the night’s most dominant trucks in the final 10 laps to claim victory in Friday’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

It was a fittingly remarkable end to a typically competitive night in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Larson spun his No. 07 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet with 45 laps remaining in the 134-lapper and dropped out of the top 20. But the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion drove back through the field and moved forward, picking off one frontrunner after another.

“I wasn’t exactly sure if I could get back up there,” said Larson, who has four wins in only 16 series starts — two in his last four races. “I didn’t have the restart I wanted, took a little bit too long to start picking them off and then just got ripping the wall and it paid dividends for me in [Turns] 1 and 2.”

Larson acknowledged that Heim — who won two of the first three races this season — looked tough all race and was unquestionably the truck to beat. There was a problem with Heim’s motor in the closing laps — his truck suddenly started intermittently shutting off then restoring power in the closing 20 laps.

“Not sure what happened to the 11 [Heim], but that worked out in our favor for sure,” Larson said. “I don’t think I would have gotten to him [otherwise]. Obviously, I would have gotten to second, probably, but that would have been tough to get to him. That last run was a lot of fun.”

Another new driver in the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing produced a familiar, winning result in Saturday’s ARCA Menards Series East season opener at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.

Max Reaves enjoyed a near-flawless outing in his debut weekend with Gibbs’ esteemed ARCA Menards Series program. After posting the quickest times in both practice and qualifying, Reaves set a commanding pace for most of the Pensacola 150 to deliver Gibbs his fourth victory at Five Flags in the past five years.

Despite his dominance, a win was far from assured for Reaves. Facing challenges from drivers like Kole Raz and Connor Mosack while simultaneously dealing with copious lapped cars, Reaves stayed vigilant all evening and was ecstatic to see his composure pay off with a trip to Victory Lane.

“I’m speechless right now,” Reaves said. “I felt like Superman when I passed [Kole Raz for the lead] and passed lapped cars. It was awesome, and the car was awesome.”

History tells us…

Team Penske will be the trio to beat Sunday. Since the debut of the Next Gen car in the 2022 season, no driver has led more laps at Phoenix than reigning (and three-time) Cup champ Joey Logano, who’s paced the field for a combined 298 laps in those six races. Next in line? His teammate at Team Penske, Ryan Blaney. The duo has won each of the last three Cup titles, with Logano claiming the 2022 and 2024 titles and Blaney in 2023, all at Phoenix in the November finale. Logano starts second Sunday, and Blaney 12th. Blaney has still yet to find Victory Lane at Phoenix, but that could change in a hurry.

He may not be the favorite to win, but watch out for …

ROSS CHASTAIN - The Trackhouse Racing driver won the season finale in 2023 at Phoenix, preventing Blaney from winning the race but not the championship. Chastain is averaging a 9.2 finish in his last six Phoenix starts, with three top fives in that span. He finished runner-up to Chase Briscoe in the spring Phoenix event in 2022 and may be in contention to score a second Arizona win on Sunday.

Three-in-a-Row Bid at Phoenix

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell — the defending Phoenix spring race winner — is attempting to make history this weekend by claiming a third consecutive win early in the season. It would be the 29th time a driver has done that in the NASCAR Cup Series’ modern era (post-1972) although no driver has ever won three straight with the Next Gen car that debuted in 2022.

Most recently among current full-time drivers, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch earned three straight trophies in 2015. Brad Keselowski and Busch won three races in a row in 2018. Kyle Larson is the last to accomplish the feat — doing it twice in his 2021 championship-winning season. Eleven times the driver who has won three straight has gone on to win the title that same year.

2021 NASCAR Cup Champion, Kyle Larson won Night 3 of High Limit International at Perth Motorplex and pocketed the largest check in Australian dirt track history. His winnings of $100,000 Australian is the equivalent of about $62,000 in the United States.

"It's cool to bring a little cash back to America," Larson said after winning his first race in Australia. "What a race. That was a lot of fun."

Corey Day Wins 2024 Turkey Night Grand Prix

Corey Day Wins 2024 Turkey Night Grand Prix

Tough Day for NASCAR Cup Drivers

Corey Day Wins 2024 Turkey Night Grand Prix

Corey Day won the 2024 Turkey Night Grand Prix in his first start to become the youngest winner of the annual classic. Meanwhile, three NASCAR Cup regulars suffered disappointment in the 98-lap race as the highest-finishing driver was Kyle Larson in 20th.

Taking the lead from pole sitter Jacob Denney, Day led the final 17 laps after starting eighth. He pocketed $15,000 for the victory. Day, who turned 19 two days earlier, is now the youngest driver to win the Turkey Night Grand Prix and the fifth consecutive California native to win. Larson began the trend in 2019 and added another victory last year. Logan Seavey (2021) and Justin Grant (2022) are the other two Californians to win recently.

“This was my last race of the year, and I’ve never ended the year with a win in all my years racing,” Day said in a news release. “To do that feels really, really good. I look forward to this swing so much, and to just be able to come race and almost relax. It’s not as high pressure as the normal stuff I’m doing and I’m just really glad Willie [Kahne] and I could get a couple wins down here, and I’m glad to be one spot better here this year.”

Larson worked his way from 10th to fifth by Lap 44, but that was as high as he would run. Three laps later, he was spun by Day and sent to the tail of the field. Larson climbed to 20th and retired with 21 laps remaining.

This is the first time in 12 Turkey Night Grand Prix editions that Larson finished outside the top five.

The fate of Kyle Busch and Ty Gibbs was worse. Busch finished outside the transfer position in the first qualification race but, with an eighth-place result, got a little more experience by qualifying for the Last Chance Qualifier. He ran outside the top 10 in that race when he became the second driver to retire in the 15-lapper.

Gibbs was excluded from the competition when he finished 11th in the second qualification race. Former NASCAR driver JJ Yeley also finished outside the top 10 in his qualification race and saw his night end early.

Michael “Buddy” Kofoid finished second, with Daison Pursley rounding out the podium.
