60 Years-Team Penske Sets Stage for Anniversary Season

Team Penske will celebrate a landmark season in 2026 as the organization honors 60 years of performance, innovation and excellence across global motorsports. What began in 1966 as a small sports car operation has evolved into one of the most successful teams in racing history, with accomplishments spanning open-wheel, stock car and sports car competition.

 

“Our 60th anniversary is a tremendous milestone for our organization,” said Roger Penske. “The 2026 season will give us the opportunity to celebrate the people, partners and fans who have helped shape Team Penske since 1966, while also looking ahead to the future. This year ahead is a meaningful one with many terrific moments for our team and story still to come.”

 

The 60th anniversary will be recognized throughout the year with a series of special programs, initiatives and storytelling designed to engage fans, partners and the motorsports community. The team will introduce a refreshed anniversary identity that will appear across its race cars, uniforms, digital platforms and merchandise. Team Penske will also elevate its Hall of Fame program in 2026, recognizing individuals whose leadership, ingenuity and dedication have contributed to the organization’s sustained success.

 

A major highlight of the celebration will be a dedicated 60th anniversary exhibit opening in late spring at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC. Featuring historic race cars, championship memorabilia and rarely-seen artifacts from the team’s archives, the exhibit will showcase the pivotal moments that have defined Team Penske’s six decades of competition. Additional anniversary displays are planned for the Penske Gallery at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum and the Penske Racing Museum in Scottsdale, Ariz., offering fans multiple opportunities to experience the team’s rich history in person.

 

On track, select retro paint schemes will appear across Team Penske’s entries in NASCAR, INDYCAR and IMSA, created in collaboration with long-standing partners who have played a central role in the team’s success. The celebration will also extend to a special 60th anniversary Fan Day that will bring fans together with current and former drivers, partner exhibits and exclusive behind-the-scenes access. A new line of commemorative apparel and merchandise will also roll out throughout the year, with the first items available online and in the team store beginning in January 2026.

Since first taking the track in 1966, Team Penske has amassed more than 650 major race wins, more than 700 pole positions and 48 championships across multiple disciplines. Its unparalleled record includes 20 Indianapolis 500 victories, three DAYTONA 500 wins, a Formula 1 victory, major sports car wins at Daytona and Sebring, and a triumph in Australia’s famed Bathurst 1000. Team Penske has produced 20 championships in the last decade, extending the organization’s record to 14 consecutive seasons earning at least one series title.

Kyle Larson Bringing Massive Following to IndyCar

Roger Penske: "We can see it already"

 

Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson joins an elite list of NASCAR Cup Series drivers after deciding to double up on racing on Memorial Day weekend in 2024. Along with competing in the highest echelon of stock car racing, the #5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 driver will also be making his Indy 500 debut on the same day next season.

 

Larson will be seen running an Arrow McLaren SP car sponsored by Rick Hendrick during the 108th running of the famed open-wheel race held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With NASCAR topping the charts for popularity and viewership in the United States, the NTT IndyCar Series will also be benefitting from one of stock car racing's most successful drivers making his IndyCar debut.

 

NASCAR and IndyCar team owner Roger Penske spoke about the 'Kyle Larson effect' on 2024 ticket sales for the iconic 500-mile-long race. According to motorsport.com:

 

"We are so excited to see Larson come to the speedway, I know Rick (Hendrick) talked to me about running Larson and we hadn't had the success for a couple years. I think that his skill and his fan base in the Midwest is amazing. The interest from the fan base with (Kyle) Larson coming, we can see it already in our ticket sales. He'll be a great asset to Indianapolis and the 500," Roger Penske said.

 

Kyle Larson will be adding yet another crown jewel of motorsports as he chases the most sought-after titles in oval and dirt track racing. With a NASCAR Cup Series championship already under his belt, Larson has the potential to be the next Tony Stewart with an IndyCar championship win as well.

2018 Indianapolis 500 Winners - Will Power and Roger Penske receive the BorgWarner Championship Trophies

At the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit, BorgWarner President and Chief Executive Officer Frederic Lissalde presented IndyCar Series driver Will Power with his BorgWarner Championship Driver's Trophy®. Known as the "Baby Borg," it commemorates Power's 2018 Indianapolis 500 victory, the first ever by an Australian driver.

"The Indianapolis 500 is the greatest spectacle in racing and one of the most watched races each year," said Lissalde. "The presentation of these trophies to Will and Roger is the culmination of the celebrations for winning the iconic race and it is one of the events I look forward to most. To be able to recognize their accomplishment with individual trophies commemorating the win is truly an honor for BorgWarner."

The Borg-Warner Trophy® has a permanent home at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, so the Baby Borg was created as a keepsake trophy in 1988 and is presented to the Indy 500 winning driver and team owner(s). The likeness of the winning driver's face that is created in sterling silver and permanently fixed to the Borg-Warner Trophy also is included on the Baby Borg. This is Power's first Baby Borg trophy.

Power's 2018 Indianapolis 500 win was historic for Team Penske owner Roger Penske as he added to his legacy as the winningest team owner in Indianapolis 500 history, now with 17 wins. Penske's longevity is unmatched with Indianapolis 500 wins in five consecutive decades spanning 1972 to 2018. The BorgWarner Championship Driver's Trophy

A one-of-a-kind replica of the Borg-Warner Trophy, the BorgWarner Championship Driver's Trophy is awarded each year to the winner of the Indianapolis 500. The sterling silver trophy is 14 inches high, weighs 5 pounds and rests on a beveled black marble base. The base is inscribed with the winner's name and year of victory, and includes a hand-crafted, three-dimensional sterling silver image of the winner, a duplicate of the image affixed to the full-sized Borg-Warner Trophy. Roger Penske to Receive "Spirit of Competition" Award at Simeone Museum

Legendary businessman and motorsports team owner Roger Penske will be the recipient of this year's Spirit of Competition Award from the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum. The award gala will be held on Wednesday, October 31 at the Museum in Philadelphia, from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

"No one epitomizes the 'Spirit of Competition' more than Roger Penske," said Fred Simeone, executive director of the museum. "He not only was an outstanding driver in his own right, but Team Penske is also one of the most successful racing teams in the history of motorsports."

Penske's love of racing began racing in 1951 when he attended his first Indianapolis 500 with his father. Eventually, Penske became a winning sports car driver and was named "Sports Car Driver of the Year" by Sports Illustrated in 1961. He retired from racing in 1965 to open his first automotive dealership, in Philadelphia. Roger Penske Racing – which would eventually become Team Penske - was formed in 1966 and debuted at the 24 Hours of Daytona, with headquarters initially in the Philadelphia suburb of Newtown Square.

Since then, Team Penske has become one of the most successful teams in the history of professional sports. Cars owned and prepared by Team Penske have produced more than 500 major race wins, over 570 pole positions and 32 Championships across open-wheel, stock car and sports car racing competition. Over the course of its 52-year history, the team has also earned 17 Indianapolis 500 victories, two Daytona 500 Championships, a Formula 1 win and overall victories in the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Each of the twenty nominees for the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018 has made an indelible mark on the sport, whether from behind the wheel or atop a pit box … or even from inside a broadcast booth. After long careers that have helped shape NASCAR, all are now one step closer to its highest honor – enshrinement into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Included among the list are five first-time nominees, all racing heroes who earned race wins, championships … and millions of fans.

Among them are two owners who have each eclipsed the 100-win mark (Joe Gibbs and Roger Penske), a driver who combined for four championships in NASCAR’s Modified and Late Model Sportsman division (Red Farmer), an extreme talent who collected 19 wins before his too-soon passing (Davey Allison) and the 2000 premier series champion (Bobby Labonte). For a full list of nominees, please see below.

The nominees were selected by a nominating committee consisting of representatives from NASCAR and the NASCAR Hall of Fame, track owners from both major facilities and historic short tracks and the media. The committee’s votes were tabulated by accounting firm EY.

From the list of 20 NASCAR Hall of Fame nominees, five inductees will be elected by the NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel, which includes a nationwide fan vote on NASCAR.com. Voting Day for the 2018 class will be Wednesday, May 24.

Added to this year’s list of Landmark Award nominees are Jim France and Alvin Hawkins. Three nominees return for the Landmark Award: Ralph Seagraves, Janet Guthrie and Squier. Potential Landmark Award recipients include competitors or those working in the sport as a member of a racing organization, track facility, race team, sponsor, media partner or being a general ambassador for the sport through a professional or non-professional role. Award winners remain eligible for NHOF enshrinement.

If NASCAR Race Mom were given a vote, she would pick Hershel McGriff. McGriff exhibited a competitive passion that lasted longer than any driver in #NASCAR history – 62 Years! His first race was the 1950 Southern 500, in the NASCAR premier series’ sophomore season, at the age of 22. His final NASCAR race was at Sonoma Raceway in the K&N Pro Series West – in 2012 at the age of 84. Hershel started that race from twenty-fifth (25) and finished eighteenth (18) running just three laps down.

The venue is open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. seven days a week and has an attached parking garage on Brevard Street. (Note: Winter operating hours are Nov. 1- March 31 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. seven days a week.) The 5-acre site also includes a privately developed 19-story office tower and 102,000-square-foot expansion to the Charlotte Convention Center, highlighted by a 40,000-square-foot ballroom.

Penske and Nikon Metrology Announce Technical Alliance

Team Penske announced today that it has formed a technical alliance with Nikon Metrology, a market leader in metrology instrumentation and technological innovation.  The announcement expands upon an already existing relationship between the two companies.

Under the terms of the new multi-year agreement, Brighton, Michigan-based Nikon Metrology will help enhance Team Penske’s manufacturing process of its racecars competing in NASCAR, working closely with the organization’s fabrication department. Team Penske will also rely on Nikon Metrology’s superior optical instrumentation and resources to support its overall technical processes at its headquarters in Mooresville, N.C.

“Team Penske is continuously looking for opportunities to further develop the processes involved in building fast, consistent and reliable race cars,” said Tim Cindric, Team Penske President. “By expanding our partnership with Nikon Metrology, we now have an industry leader that is committed to taking the quality of our race cars to another level.”

After working closely with Penske Technology Group in the past, Nikon Metrology is looking forward to the new challenge of partnering with the winning Team Penske racing program, which celebrated its 50th anniversary season in 2016.

Team Penske Has Scored a Sprint Cup Series Victory
Every Year Since 1991.

Brad Keselowski's victory in Saturday night's 'Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola' marked the 100th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win for legendary team owner Roger Penske. Coincidentally, the organization is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Will win number 101 be in the near future . . .  well the No. 2 Ford driver’s 117.8 driver rating at Kentucky is the second-best among active drivers. On the season, Keselowski claims seven top fives and 11 top 10s in 17 starts.

Here are some interesting tidbits, courtesy of Team Penske:

• In two of Team Penske's 100 wins, the winning driver led only one lap. Both times in 2015 with Brad Keselowski at Auto Club Speedway and Joey Logano at Watkins Glen.
• Fifteen of Team Penske's 100 wins have come from the pole position.
• Brad Keselowski dominated at Richmond International Raceway in 2014, leading 96 percent of the laps. That is the highest percentage of laps led by a winner in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition for Team Penske.
• Team Penske drivers have scored 12 wins at Bristol Motor Speedway, the most wins at a single track for the team. Rusty Wallace leads all Team Penske drivers with seven victories at the .533-mile track.
• Both Rusty Wallace and Kurt Busch won their first race with Team Penske at Bristol.
• The No. 2 for Team Penske has scored 64 victories. Rusty Wallace has 37, Brad Keselowski has 19 and Kurt Busch has eight.
• In Team Penske's 100 victories, winning drivers led 12,295 laps en route to Victory Lane.
• Rusty Wallace scored 10 victories in 1993, the most wins for a Team Penske driver in a single season of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition.
• In 2014, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano teamed to score 11 victories, the most for Team Penske in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
• Rusty Wallace started 33rd at New Hampshire in 1993, the deepest a Team Penske driver has started and won.
• Team Penske's first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win came in the 1973 Winston Western 500 at Riverside International Raceway with driver Mark Donohue.
• In addition to the familiar 2, 12 and 22 numbers for Team Penske, the team also fielded the No. 16 for NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison in the 1970s, with Allison scoring three of the car's four victories.
• Rusty Wallace and Joey Logano are the only drivers to win three races in a row for Team Penske. Wallace accomplished this twice, in 1993 winning Bristol, North Wilkesboro and Martinsville in succession, and in 1994 winning Dover, Pocono and Michigan. Logano accomplished this in 2015 by winning at Charlotte, Kansas, and Talladega in the Round of 12 of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
• Forty-nine of the 100 wins came with the winning driver starting within the top five.
• Team Penske has scored a Sprint Cup Series victory every year since 1991.

Ford & Roush Yates Engines Powers Two Daytona Wins!

Brad Keselowski lights up Daytona Beach with his first Daytona win and marking Team Penske’s 100th overall NASCAR Sprint Cup win. As the exclusive engine builder of the NASCAR Ford FR9 V8 race engine, Roush Yates Engines in partnership with Ford Performance powered the No. 2 Ford Fusion to victory lane at the legendary Daytona International Speedway.

From the pole position, Greg Biffle, driver of the Roush Fenway Racing No. 16 led the field to start the Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola race, followed by teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the No. 17 and the No. 2 Brad Keselowski of Team Penske in fourth and fifth positions respectively. Biffle secured the pole with a time of 192.955 mph.

The Ford teams came out with a mission to win. All twelve Ford teams ran strong all night, leading a total of 123 laps out of the 161 recorded, and the majority by race winner No. 2 with a total of 115. The July 4th weekend race packed its own fireworks on a the 2.5 mile tri-oval track known for high speed where bump drafting and three wide racing pushes the limits of both car and driver. With 26 different lead changes, 13 different leaders and five cautions, the ‘Big One’ taking out as many as 19 cars and quickly changed the strategy of the race.

With 16 laps left, Keselowski No. 2 made a bold move from the outside and crossed over behind the No.18 of Kyle Busch to take the inside lane and the lead. It was a drag race to the finish when a late caution came out with three laps to go, which positioned Team Penske teammates Keselowski and Logano on the outside, one behind the other. With a little push from Logano and the Roush Yates Engines power of the Ford FR9 V8 race engine the No. 2 was able to keep the lead. Keselowski went on to take the checkered flag and capture his first Daytona win in his 20 starts. Making this the fourth restrictor-plate win for the No. 2 with Roush Yates Engines. With winning Las Vegas and Talladega Brad finds himself in second place on overall driver points board and Logano in a close fourth place position.

“We are working together…,” said Roger Penske, team owner of Team Penske. “We put our arms around him (Doug Yates) and their people, every one of them over there is doing a great job. And their people integrated into our systems and into our team and to me could not ask for anything better. Great reliability and great speed and I think you saw it gives us a real good chance as we go into the Chase.”

The blue oval topped the field at Daytona, finishing six cars in the top 15 with No. 2/P1, No. 6/P3, No. 22/P4, No. 17/P5, No.16 P8, No. 21/P14 and to round out the top 15 with Subway Firecracker 250 winner, Aric Almirola in the No. 43.

 “Daytona is a very special place for our family,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “To win here is extra special and to be able to celebrate with Team Penske on their 100th win and Aric’s Xfinity win is quite an achievement for the Roush Yates Engines team.” Marking the half way point of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series schedule with a double win gives the Ford Performance and Roush Yates Engines teams’ great momentum going into the last half of the season and into the Chase.

NASCAR Pit Crew Increase Speed With VertiMax

VertiMax is an athletic training device to maximize speed, vertical jump and overall athletic performance from youth to Pro levels.

Considering the pit crews for Stewart Haas and Penske responded so well to the system and the importance of fractions of a second in a pit stop, I’m confident VertiMax is going to become a standard fixture in NASCAR training facilities for both pit crews and drivers because it simply develops a faster more agile human and those are pretty important attributes if you’re driving a NASCAR or in the pit crew, explained Michael Wehrell, the President of VertiMax.

Taking in consideration the NASCAR Youth trend, NASCAR Race Mom asked Mr. Wehrell if there were any age restrictions for the VertiMax.

Originally we designed the VertiMax to train athletes from about 14 years and older but the system became so popular among children we had to design a youth model that can safely train athletes as young as 6 years old. The system is designed to keep elastic resistance constant so people don’t have to worry so much about stability when they are moving around and exercising which makes it very useful and safe to use from youth sports levels to general exercise and rehabilitation of the elderly.  (Michael Wehrell)

CHARLOTTE, NC – Penske Racing engineer Alex Sinoyannis recently shared his racing experience on stock cars, like the new Gen 6, with a new generation of engineers from James B. Dudley High School, who will enter their concept car (pictured) in April’s Shell Eco-Marathon Americas. This initiative challenges students to develop vehicles that can travel the farthest on a gallon of fuel, and is one way Shell connects people who are interested in the energy challenges of today and tomorrow.
