Hurricane Relief Helicopter Pilots to Conduct Flyover Ahead of Bank of America ROVAL™ 400

In the aftermath of devastating storms across western North Carolina and surrounding states, helicopter pilots took to the skies to deliver vital aid to some of the hardest hit areas, many of which were otherwise cutoff from help. Ten of those brave pilots will take part in Sunday’s flyover before the seventh running of the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In addition, retired NASCAR driver and pilot Greg Biffle, who himself made several flights to deliver aid, will serve as Honorary Starter and wave the green flag to start the pivotal NASCAR Cup Series Playoff showdown.

“As we prepare for Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL™ 400, we do so with all of those impacted by recent storms still in our thoughts,” said Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager Greg Walter. “The outpouring of support for those in need across western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene was swift and widespread. Among those who immediately sprang to action were these pilots, many of whom have ties to NASCAR. It is a privilege to be able to recognize and honor them.”

Additional dignitaries for the weekend include:

Top - Five #NASCAR Moments at Kansas Speedway

Top - Five #NASCAR Moments at Kansas Speedway
Racing returns this month at the Kansas Speedway with the ARCA Racing Series on Oct. 14, the NASCAR XFINITY Series (Kansas Lottery 300) on Oct. 15, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (Hollywood Casino 400, the fifth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup) on Oct. 16.

Top - Five #NASCAR Moments at Kansas Speedway

Take a walk down memory lane as we revisit the past with the:

Top 5 Moments at Kansas Speedway

(according to the Kansas Speedway)

#5- Biffle out of fuel wins in 2007

With weather playing a factor during the day, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in 2007 was cut short. As Greg Biffle and Kansas native Clint Bowyer were heading through Turn 4 with the yellow flag and checkered flag displayed, it appeared Biffle ran out of fuel and slowed, while Bowyer passed him to earn his first victory at Kansas Speedway. But it wasn’t meant to be as Biffle crossed the start/finish line and NASCAR maintained that Biffle kept the mandatory speed and earned his 12th series victory.

For Bowyer, the heartbreak is still very much alive as he is still waiting for his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win at his home track.

#4- New surface ushers in new era

The number four moment on our countdown began a new era at Kansas Speedway.

Immediately following the 2012 spring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Kansas Speedway prepared to repave and reconfigure the existing track surface like so many other tracks have done. However, Kansas Speedway had a unique take on how to begin the demolition – use equipment from the Kansas National Guard.

The Kansas National Guard brought an Armored Combat Excavator (ACE) and D7R to kick off the demolition and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Brad Keselowski wanted to help. After meeting with the Kansas National Guard, Keselowski climbed into a tank to take a few laps around the original surface of Kansas Speedway while the D7R and ACE started work on pit road.

Drivers usually aren’t fans of changes or track repaves, Kansas Speedway’s new surface has gotten favorable reviews in recent years.

“Gotta hand it to the folks who remodeled Kansas Speedway into what it is today,” said Dale Earnhardt Jr on Twitter. “Quickly rising up my list of favorite tracks.”

#3 -First Spring Cup night race in 2014

Moment #3 includes a couple of firsts.

In May 2014, Kansas Speedway hosted its first NASCAR night races with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series making their debuts under the lights at the track. And, wouldn’t you know it – two more firsts happened that weekend too. Jeff Gordon, who won the first Cup race at Kansas Speedway in 2001 and became the first two-time winner the following year, won his third race at the facility on May 10 and became the first three-time winner in the Cup Series at Kansas Speedway. However, history was also made the night before as Matt Crafton became the first two-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winner at Kansas Speedway.

Can Gordon add his name to the history books at Kansas Speedway one more time this fall?

#2- Johnson fends off Edwards bonsai move

For moment #2, we go back to Sept. 28, 2008.

With Jimmie Johnson leading on the final lap heading into Turn 4, Missouri native Carl Edwards decided he needed to try something he had done in a video game – a bonzai-move where he would use his momentum to lightly hit the wall and slingshot to the lead. Unfortunately for Edwards, who was looking to get his first win at his home track, the move didn’t go exactly as planned as he hit the wall harder than anticipated and finished second to Johnson.

It’s definitely a move that gets revisited each time the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to Kansas Speedway. as Edwards is still looking for that first Cup win at Kansas.

#1-Gordon wins Inaugural Cup race soon after 9/11

And now, we go back to when it all started for moment #1.

Sept. 30, 2001 shortly after the 9/11 attacks, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series made its debut at Kansas Speedway. On what was an emotional day for the fans in the grandstands and watching on TV, the race provided an escape for a few hours and it didn’t disappoint, as there were 19 lead changes among 12 drivers. On lap 246, then-three time Cup champion Jeff Gordon took the lead from Mark Martin and went on to win the inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Roush Fenway Goes All-In
Darlington Throwback Weekend

Roush Fenway Goes All-In-Darlington Throwback Weekend

Team pays tribute to the past and Hall of Fame legends at Darlington

Roush Fenway Goes All-In Darlington Throwback Weekend #NASCAR

Darlington Raceway has long been the home of one of the sport’s most famed events; The Southern 500. Last season the track launched its Tradition Returns NASCAR Throwback weekend. The platform has quickly grown into one of the most popular events of the NASCAR season, with teams paying tribute to the past and the legends that paved the way for where the sport sits today.

No other team has embraced the concept more than the sport’s winningest team – Roush Fenway Racing.

“The retro ideas and remembering our history and the things that made us proud and got us where we are today are certainly on everybody’s mind, and the things going on at Darlington fall right in line with that,” said Roush Fenway team owner Jack Roush."

“It’s a great event,” added Roush. “To pay tribute to those who have made the sport what it is, and do it in a way that rewards the fans and provides attention for the partners and shines a light on our sport is really an amazing concept.”

With 100 percent buy in, all five of Roush Fenway’s teams will sport throwback schemes this weekend at Darlington.

Trevor Bayne’s No. 6 AdvoCare Ford pays homage to NASCAR Hall of Famer Mark Martin and the red, white and blue scheme he helped make famous during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will drive a Darrell Waltrip inspired orange and blue Fastenal Ford;  a tribute to Waltrip’s 1975 scheme that he scored his first career victory driving that same year.

Greg Biffle will drive a Hooter’s Ford Fusion, complete with ‘Underbird’ manufacturing markings that salutes Alan Kulwicki’s 1992 championship season and his perceived ‘underdog’ status.

On the XFINITY side, Bubba Wallace will power a throwback scheme that mirrors Martin’s 1990 Folger’s scheme, that Martin ran as Roush Fenway began to grow into a perennial championship contender.

Roush Fenway Goes All-In Darlington Throwback Weekend #NASCAR

Ryan Reed will drive a Ford Mustang inspired by Bobby Allison’s 1975 Matador that the Hall of Famer drove to victory at the 'Lady in Black.'  In addition -- in a throwback to days gone by -- famed NASCAR artist Sam Bass will hand paint a portion of the car at the track this weekend at Darlington. Bass also commissioned an official painting of the car,  and prints will be given away via social media to fans.

Earlier this week the team held a photoshoot in front of the iconic fountain at its corporate headquarters in Concord, N.C., featuring each of the five throwback cars. The team also photographed Wallace’s throwback, alongside an original No. 6 Thunderbird that was driven by Martin during the 1990 season. Click here for photos.

For Roush Fenway, the throwbacks have not been limited to just the track. Members of Roush Fenway’s marketing and management staff will wear retro ‘70’s style’ Jack Roush Performance shirts and hats this weekend at the track. The No. 16 and No. 17 crews will wear special throwback uniforms at the track, with the 17 team’s outfit including vintage white high-top Converse sneakers that Stenhouse personally purchased for the team. All three Cup teams will sport retro '80’s style ‘trucker’ hats.

In addition, the team has also launched a robust content plan across its award-winning social channels, highlighting several moments in the team’s celebrated history through pictures, video and various stories.

Roush Fenway is also offering fans a chance to win an authentic Mark Martin firesuit, that the driver wore during the final season of his famed career at Roush Fenway.

Even with all the hoopla surrounding the event, the true excitement will come when the cars hit the track this weekend at Darlington Raceway. Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race is set for 3:30 p.m. EST and will be televised live on NBC. The green flag for the Southern 500 Sprint Cup Series race is set for 6 PM EST and will be televised live on NBC. The Cup cars are scheduled to hit the track for the weekend’s first practice session on Friday at noon.

Ford & Roush Yates Engines
Powers Two Daytona Wins!

Ford & Roush Yates Engines Powers Two Daytona Wins! - #nascar
Brad Keselowski lights up Daytona Beach with his first Daytona win and marking Team Penske’s 100th overall NASCAR Sprint Cup win. As the exclusive engine builder of the NASCAR Ford FR9 V8 race engine, Roush Yates Engines in partnership with Ford Performance powered the No. 2 Ford Fusion to victory lane at the legendary Daytona International Speedway.

From the pole position, Greg Biffle, driver of the Roush Fenway Racing No. 16 led the field to start the Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola race, followed by teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the No. 17 and the No. 2 Brad Keselowski of Team Penske in fourth and fifth positions respectively. Biffle secured the pole with a time of 192.955 mph.

The Ford teams came out with a mission to win. All twelve Ford teams ran strong all night, leading a total of 123 laps out of the 161 recorded, and the majority by race winner No. 2 with a total of 115. The July 4th weekend race packed its own fireworks on a the 2.5 mile tri-oval track known for high speed where bump drafting and three wide racing pushes the limits of both car and driver. With 26 different lead changes, 13 different leaders and five cautions, the ‘Big One’ taking out as many as 19 cars and quickly changed the strategy of the race.

With 16 laps left, Keselowski No. 2 made a bold move from the outside and crossed over behind the No.18 of Kyle Busch to take the inside lane and the lead. It was a drag race to the finish when a late caution came out with three laps to go, which positioned Team Penske teammates Keselowski and Logano on the outside, one behind the other. With a little push from Logano and the Roush Yates Engines power of the Ford FR9 V8 race engine the No. 2 was able to keep the lead. Keselowski went on to take the checkered flag and capture his first Daytona win in his 20 starts. Making this the fourth restrictor-plate win for the No. 2 with Roush Yates Engines. With winning Las Vegas and Talladega Brad finds himself in second place on overall driver points board and Logano in a close fourth place position.

“We are working together…,” said Roger Penske, team owner of Team Penske. “We put our arms around him (Doug Yates) and their people, every one of them over there is doing a great job. And their people integrated into our systems and into our team and to me could not ask for anything better. Great reliability and great speed and I think you saw it gives us a real good chance as we go into the Chase.”

Ford & Roush Yates Engines Powers Two Daytona Wins! - #nascar

The blue oval topped the field at Daytona, finishing six cars in the top 15 with No. 2/P1, No. 6/P3, No. 22/P4, No. 17/P5, No.16 P8, No. 21/P14 and to round out the top 15 with Subway Firecracker 250 winner, Aric Almirola in the No. 43.

“Daytona is a very special place for our family,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “To win here is extra special and to be able to celebrate with Team Penske on their 100th win and Aric’s Xfinity win is quite an achievement for the Roush Yates Engines team.” Marking the half way point of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series schedule with a double win gives the Ford Performance and Roush Yates Engines teams’ great momentum going into the last half of the season and into the Chase.

Good Showing for Greg Biffle at Daytona (#NASCAR #NSCS)

Greg Biffle was the last car to go out for qualifying for the Coke Zero 400. He earned pole position as he knocked Carl Edwards from that coveted top spot.

It means a lot to us,” Biffle said at the time. “What means even more is all these other teams coming up and congratulating us. We’ve been working really, really hard. Just really excited for the whole team. I’m just happy to be driving it.”

Good Showing for Greg Biffle at Daytona (#NASCAR #NSCS)The excellent qualifying effort turned out to be an omen. Biffle, who started the race from the pole for the first time since 2012, also managed to picked up his first top-ten since September. Despite his involvement in the “big one” on lap ninety-one, the “Biffle” earned an eighth place finish. In addition to his pole, Biffle lead on lap twenty-nine.

Interesting Fact: If Gregory Jack "Greg" Biffle can win the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship, he would become the first driver in NASCAR history to capture the championship in all three of NASCAR’s premier series. Biffle won NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) championships in 2000 and 2002 respectively. With nine race remaining before the chase, Biffle is twenty-second in the NSCS points stands.

Biffle Welcomes NASCAR Fans To Firekeepers Casino (#NASCAR)

Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 Ford Fusion for Roush Fenway Racing, sped into one of his favorite places away from the track this week – a casino. He was in Battle Creek, Michigan, to promote the upcoming FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Whenever time allows on race weekends, Biffle tries to make a trip to a local casino to try his hand at craps. And he just may have found a spot at FireKeepers Casino when he comes to Michigan.

Biffle has a pretty good track record at MIS. He has one of the best driver ratings at the two-mile racetrack. So he’s always a solid bet at Michigan.

  • “MIS is definitely my favorite racetrack,” he said. “I love everything about it – the track, I run well there and we are always excited to return. It’s an important track to me, to Roush Fenway and to Ford. So winning at Michigan is always on our minds.”

After a tour of FireKeepers Casino and meeting with the media, Biffle was ready for an interactive afternoon with the employees of FireKeepers Casino and Hotel, an inaugural sponsor of the track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The casino had sponsored pole day. But wanted more involvement.

And they have gotten involved in a big way.

Biffle helped FireKeepers Casino and Hotel leadership to kick off the casino’s “Ten Days to the Race” celebration among it’s more than 3,000 employees. He got the day started with FireKeepers Casino Hotel President/CEO Brian Decorah, outfitted in a Tony Stewart firesuit.

Biffle posed for pictures and signed autographs for all the employees. Then it was back inside to welcome all the NASCAR fans at the casino. FireKeepers Casino recently unveiled a NASCAR slot machine. Biffle posed for more photos with fans before testing his luck with track President Roger Curtis.

Michigan International Speedway holds a special place for Biffle. He owns four wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series at the track and two more in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at the track.

But one moment sticks out above all others.

“My favorite moment came on Father’s Day in 2013,” Biffle said. “It was a win and it was Ford’s 1,000th win in NASCAR. It was my daughter’s first victory lane. It was a special day all around.”

Biffle looks to create another special moment on June 12 during the FireKeepers Casino 400, where NASCAR’s new aero package will be run. Biffle says it will be a “great race.”

“This setup we’re bringing will have more passing and some really great racing,” Biffle said. “I feel like our team has some momentum, and I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to returning to Michigan.”

Biffle's Dogged Love of Animals Fuels Foundation, #NASCAR Pets Calendar Project

NASCAR drivers are among the most active athletes in all of sports in their support of worthwhile causes and charities.

Greg Biffle poses above with two of his dogs.
Savannah (left) is a rescue dog. On the right is Gracie, who has since passed away.

From children’s hospitals to education to cancer treatment and research facilities, drivers lend their names -- and much of their free time -- to activities that serve the greater good. Drivers have raised many millions of dollars for charities over the years.

Noting other drivers’ activities with numerous charitable causes, Greg Biffle considered his options years ago and decided to go to the dogs.

Always an animal lover, Biffle started the Greg Biffle Foundation with a goal of supporting animal shelters and educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering pets. Typically, the foundation activities raise about $200,000 a year, Biffle said.

“I had always had dogs growing up,” he said. “Then I lived in an apartment in Michigan and didn’t really have an area. When I moved to North Carolina (to enhance his NASCAR career), I started looking around for a dog and got Foster (a boxer). He became part of the family quickly. He traveled with me to all the races, went to the shop, everything.”

Starting a foundation geared toward animals was a natural, Biffle said.

“I started hearing about all these animal cruelty cases,” he said. “There was an awful news story about a woman who had Rottweilers and had mistreated them. A lot of the drivers were starting foundations, so we decided to start one tied to animals.”

One of the foundation’s major fundraisers is its annual NASCAR Pets Calendar. The calendar features NASCAR drivers and other NASCAR folks posing with the pets. Since its debut in 2004, the calendar has been a big hit.

In addition to the more traditional dog and cat photos, the calendar also has included goats, horses and donkeys.

For 2017, the calendar project has a new twist.

“Fans have always asked about being included, so this time we’re going to do that,” Biffle said. “We decided it would be great to give back to our loyal supporters by featuring four lucky fans in the 2017 calendar. The NASCAR Pets Calendar is unique in that it shows drivers off the track with some very special family members -- their pets -- and it really resonates with our fans.”

Fans can enter three ways:

Submit a high-quality photo with your pet to fanpromo@gregbifflefoundation.com before May 20, 2016. Purchase a raffle ticket at the Greg Biffle Foundation website by May 27. One fan will be drawn randomly for inclusion in the calendar. Join the silent auction at nascarfoundation.org/auctions  by May 27. The highest bidder will be chosen.

For more information, visit gregbifflefoundation.com.

The foundation’s 2016 calendar featured Clint Bowyer, David Ragan, Casey Mears, Ryan Newman, Danica Patrick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Austin Dillon, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Biffle and others.

Biffle also is president of his local Friends of the Animals group. The group has been raising money to build an animal adoption and education center near Lake Norman, N.C. He said the group hopes to break ground on the facility soon.

“We’re doing everything we can,” Biffle said. “And 99 percent of the money that comes in goes directly to the cause. There’s a lot to be done, but we’re working on it.”

The driver motorhome lot at every NASCAR race is populated not only by the drivers and their family members but also by their pets. Biffle called Foster and Gracie, two of his dogs who died recently, “stars of the motorhome lot.”

Biffle now has Savannah, a rescue dog, and Killian, a boxer.

New Fusion Ready to Contend for #NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship in 2016

Debuts at Daytona Speedweeks

New Fusion Ready to Contend for #NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship in 2016

  • The new NASCAR Fusion, which hits the track next month at Daytona Speedweeks, is capable of producing 750 horsepower at 9,000 rpm under the current rules package
  • Ford Fusion NASCAR drivers will digest more information with a new digital dashboard system that is mandatory this season – teams can switch between as many as 16 preset screens to display information with three different graphic looks

New Fusion Ready to Contend for #NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship in 2016
History is repeating itself when it comes to preparing the new NASCAR Fusion for its competition debut in February at Daytona Speedweeks.

Much like three years ago, when NASCAR allowed manufacturers to include more brand-specific characteristics, Ford once again used the talents of its designers to ensure the same eye-catching components on the 2017 Ford Fusion production car are included on the new racing version. This latest iteration marks the third major body change for Fusion, and represents another step toward keeping "stock" a relative part of stock car racing.

The result of the efforts of designers and engineers is an aggressive-looking new race car capable of producing 750 horsepower at 9,000 rpm under the current rules package.

"There’s no mistaking we’re here to win races and championships," said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. "And we believe the new NASCAR Fusion will be a powerful tool in the hands of our teams and drivers.

"Aerodynamics are more important than ever at the speeds these cars run," he added, "so we used some of the best wind tunnel and computational fluid dynamics technology available to create this new Fusion. Fortunately, the Ford design team gave us a great car with which to start."

New Fusion Ready to Contend for #NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship in 2016
The new NASCAR Fusion follows in the tire tracks of its successful predecessor by not only mirroring the exterior of its production counterpart, but in bringing a better interior to the driver.

Ford NASCAR drivers will digest more information through a new digital dashboard system that’s mandatory this season. Teams can switch between as many as 16 preset screens to display information, which they can access either in bar graph or numbers format, or via the standard gauge and needle that has been used for years.

This latest technological advancement from NASCAR comes on the heels of several significant changes, including the Gen 6 model that brought brand identity back to the sport in 2013, the switch to electronic fuel injection in 2012 and the move to an ethanol fuel blend in 2011.

Ford has continued to refine its own technological program as well, opening up Ford Performance Technical Center in Concord, North Carolina, in 2014, which features a state-of-the-art full-motion simulator that assists both racing and production car development.

"The technical center and the full-motion simulator have been great tools for our teams and engineers," said Pericak. "As important as aerodynamics are in NASCAR, it’s also imperative the computer simulations that assist the teams in arriving at the track with a proper setup are best-in-class as well. We’ve worked very hard the past year to refine our simulation tools to create a real benefit to our race drivers, as well as the drivers of our new passenger vehicles."

Fusion makes track debut Tuesday in Las Vegas The new NASCAR Fusion makes its public debut Tuesday, when 2012 Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski participates in a two-day Goodyear test session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

New Fusion Ready to Contend for #NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship in 2016

The Team Penske driver is coming off a season in which he qualified for The Chase after winning at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, then finishing seventh in the final standings. This is Keselowski’s fourth season driving with Ford, his seventh for car owner Roger Penske. He has 17 career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins, with eight of those coming behind the wheel of Fusion.

Fusion is entering its 11th season of NASCAR competition. The car debuted as Ford's flagship model in NASCAR in 2006 and has won 71 Sprint Cup races since, including 21 the past two seasons.

Roush Fenway Racing’s Greg Biffle drove Fusion to a milestone victory in the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway on June 16, 2013, representing Ford’s 1,000th win in NASCAR’s top three series combined.

Fusion has won the Daytona 500 four times in the last seven years, including 2015 when Team Penske’s Joey Logano won The Great American Race for the first time.

Daytona 500 marks first official points race for new Fusion

The new Fusion makes its competition debut Feb. 21 at Daytona Speedweeks in the 58th running of the Daytona 500, kicking off a 36-race schedule that culminates with the champion being crowned at Ford Championship Weekend in Homestead, Florida, Nov. 20.

This month, the hottest color in motorsports will be pink when the biggest stars in racing take the track to show their support for those affected by breast cancer.

As part of Lionel Racing’s “Paint the Track Pink” initiative, drivers like Greg Biffle, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Courtney Force and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will drive pink race cars as they battle for the win during breast cancer awareness month. “The color pink is now a universally recognized show of support for breast cancer victims and survivors,” said Howard Hitchcock, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lionel Racing.

With the most popular drivers in both NASCAR and the NHRA driving ‘Paint the Track Pink’ cars, the entire racing community is going to make a strong statement of on-track support that fans can get behind, as well as raise awareness and funds for an important breast cancer charity, Hitchcock continued.

Not only will the pink cars on track serve as a reminder that there is still work to be done in fighting this disease, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each “Paint the Track Pink” die-cast will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), a Texas-based charity that works to increase awareness through education, provide diagnostic breast care services for those in need, and provide support services.

We are excited to partner with Lionel Racing, the official die-cast of NASCAR,” said NBCF Senior Vice President of Development, Brent Hail. “This promotion not only educates race fans about the importance of early detection, but the funds raised will help provide mammograms and early detection services for women in need.

Drivers participating in the “Paint the Track Pink” program include:

  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. - National Guard Pink in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Martinsville.
  • Greg Biffle - 3M Pink in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Martinsville.
  • Brittany Force - Castrol Edge Pink at the NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove.
  • Courtney Force - Traxxas Pink at the NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove.
  • Danica Patrick - GoDaddy Pink in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series beginning at Kansas.
  • Regan Smith - Fire Alarm Services Pink in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Kansas.
  • Ricky Stenhouse Jr. - Driven Pink in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race at Martinsville.
  • Brad Sweet - Great Clips Pink in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Kansas.

“Paint the Track Pink” die-cast cars are now available for pre-order through LionelRacing.com, the NASCAR.com Superstore, and authorized die-cast dealers.

FIRST and 3M team up
with NASCAR driver Greg Biffle

What do science education and sports car racing have in common? Hundreds of kids and parents will find out this Sunday, August 18, during the Pure Michigan 400 Sprint Cup Race as FIRST and 3M team up with NASCAR driver Greg Biffle to ignite kids’ passion in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Families will rally around the track in Brooklyn, Michigan to watch Biffle race the No. 16 Ford Fusion, vying for a winning spot with just four races left before the season cut-off. During this race, Biffle will prominently display the red, white and blue FIRST logo on the hood of his car. Biffle is helping the organization and partner, 3M, educate families about the exciting career connection between science and sports.

Families are in for a fast-paced thrill this weekend,” said Biffle. “Just as FIRST offers robotic competitions that combine the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology, the FIRST teams and their families will learn ‘first hand’ that speed racing is also based on the application of building and engineering fast-paced machines, offering heart-pounding lessons in innovation.

Biffle’s awareness efforts at the NASCAR event will underscore a long-standing collaboration that 3M and FIRST have based on a common goal: to inspire young, innovative and creative minds to explore science and technology via hands-on robotics challenges.

Be sure to tune into ESPN on Sunday, August 18th at 1PM ET to see the No. 16 FIRST Ford Fusion car in action!

Tony Stewart
Coca-Cola Racing Google+ Hangout

Tony Stewart getting ready to answer a question from NASCAR Race Mom

Did you attend the Google+ Hangout with Coca-Cola Racing Family Championship contenders Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, and Denny Hamlin? If not you can still view the entire event by watching the YouTube version below.

Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Kyle Petty, Elliott Sadler, Cassie Laberee, Niki Nikolopoulos,  Tom Rolfson, Valerie Anderle, and Bob Pockrass, were in attendance. While NASCAR Race Mom was not chosen to participate live, I was allowed to submit a question. Additionally, NASCAR Race Mom’s blog contest winner’s question was also asked.

Both our questions were answered by NASCAR Star, Tony Stewart.

NASCAR Race Mom: As a NASCAR Race Mom myself, I recently enjoyed a photo of your mom participating in a go-kart. You {Tony}, looked about eight years old and served as her starter. What advice did you give your mom before that powder puff event and how did she finish?

Tony Stewart: She actually won that day, but I did not give her any advice. My dad was the one that was giving her the advice. I just didn’t want her to get hurt because I wanted to be sure that she cooked dinner that night. Nah she may have been the one of my parents that actually had the driving talent. She was pretty good when she would run those races at the go-kart track. It was a lot of fun. I know exactly the picture that you are talking about. I was probably 8 or 9. It was something that we did not get to do a lot of, but that was one thing as a family that we did; my sister, my mother, my father and I, we all went go-kart racing together when I was young. We had a lot of good times.

Nancy S (Blog Contest Winner): After viewing the wreck in Talladega, “Do you ever get scared?”

Tony Stewart: No, I am scared of not being in a race car in all reality. I have been racing for thirty-three years now and it just part of racing; it is just part of what happens. The worst part of that was that I was the one who made the mistake that caused twenty-four other guys to have a bad day. That was probably what worried me more than just being in the wreck itself.
