Richard Petty Motorsports and World Wide Technology Announce Sponsorship Extension

Richard Petty Motorsports and World Wide Technology Announce Sponsorship Extension

WWT’s Big Data Solutions to Continue to Support Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. and Team

Richard Petty Motorsports and World Wide Technology Announce Sponsorship Extension

Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) and World Wide Technology (WWT), a market-leading technology solution provider, announced an extension of their official partnership that began in 2018 naming WWT the Technology and Analytics Partner of RPM.

As part of the extension, WWT continues to be a primary sponsor of the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team and will be a major associate sponsor throughout the 2019 season. In addition, WWT will continue to provide RPM with data analytics, consulting and technology solutions. This past season, WWT embedded a team of its data scientists within the organization to analyze information to optimize the team’s performance on the track. The result was a one-of-a-kind, proprietary dashboard used late in the season by the team. Showcasing improvements early on, initial results included a seven percent increase in Average Running Position, a 10 percent increase in Average Finish, and improved strategy decision-making by the crew chief and race engineers. Additionally, the dashboard featured artificial intelligence (AI) for visual data classification and combined more than five data sources onto one screen for improved data visualization, allowing for better performance comparison (e.g., tracking speed against the other cars).

WWT and RPM will continue to develop this and other technology solutions in 2019 to compete and win on the track. New features in 2019 will include the addition of deeper analytics functionality to the application, expanded AI to gather and analyze visual data, and predictive analytics for race strategy.

“Our partnership with WWT allows us to use our own data in a way that is most useful for us,” stated driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. “This isn’t something that is shared, but rather data that Drew (Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer) and our engineers now use during the race weekend and the actual race itself. This season was just the beginning for WWT, and I think we are just scratching the surface of their capabilities. They are also giving us the sponsorship that we need to be better on the track– that’s something that we’re all looking forward to. They are a great company and I’m looking forward to working with WWT more in 2019.”

Richard Petty Motorsports and World Wide Technology Announce Sponsorship Extension
WWT will sponsor Wallace Jr. for multiple races in 2019 with the number of races and race dates to be announced at a later time. The No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and team will bear the WWT branding and Silicon Valley in St. Louis message.

“In a short time, we’ve seen the immediate impact World Wide Technology can make on our race program with their big data analytics,” said Brian Moffitt, chief executive officer, Richard Petty Motorsports. “Their continued partnership will have a significant impact on the performance of our race team through data analytics, application enhancements and creation of proprietary performance focused applications. We are fortunate to have WWT as a partner and they are committed to making Bubba and the No. 43 team a winner.

“Our team at World Wide Technology is dedicated to making Wallace Jr. a winner with Richard Petty Motorsports,” said Matt Horner, senior vice president of global enterprise sales. “The partnership has energized our team to build programs that will help the team get an advantage utilizing our technology solutions. We’ve started that and now we want to continue to build and introduce new technology with the team in 2019. We’re looking forward to a great season in 2019 with Richard Petty Motorsports.”

WWT helps organizations across a wide range of industries to survive and thrive the digital disruption that surrounds them. WWT’s innovative ecosystem, known as the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), brings together hundreds of technology companies, from Silicon Valley heavyweights to emerging tech players, to test out and integrate technology solutions for customers – cutting technology evaluation from months to weeks, sometimes days, and producing game-changing results. WWT complements the ATC with 500 agile application developers who build digital experiences for customers, as well as big data solutions, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence that help customers turn data into business value.

The K&N Pro Series East ‘Great Outdoors RV Superstore 100’ at Watkins Glen is scheduled to be a forty-one (41) laps (100.45 miles) event, and will be run in two (2) segments with a 5-minute break at or near the conclusion of lap twenty-one (21).

Will Rodgers has won the last three NASCAR K&N Pro Series road-course events and is one of three former road course winners in Friday's field at Watkins Glen International.

Will Rodgers eagerly looks his fourth consecutive road course victory in the K&N Pro Series but he will have plenty of competition. Today the entry list includes Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series rising stars Erik Jones and Bubba Wallace, who are looking for more track time before Sunday’s race.

The wild cards will be Rev Racing’s Ernie Francis Jr. and Ruben Garcia Jr. Francis, the multi-time Trans-AM champ, won the pole at New Jersey in his first career K&N Pro start earlier this year and finished second to Rodgers. Garcia has extensive road-course experience in both the K&N Pro Series and NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series, where he’s the points leader.

William Byron and Darrell 'Bubba' Wallace in Tight Competition

Monster Energy #NASCAR Cup Series Sunoco Rookie Run

Darrell 'Bubba' Wallace #NASCAR #NXS
Pocono Raceway is a significant venue for one of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ high-profile Sunoco rookies, Bubba Wallace. This is where Wallace made his series debut last year (finishing 26th), filling in for the injured Aric Almirola in the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports car he now drives full-time.
William Byron #NASCAR #NXS
Wallace is in a tight Sunoco Rookie of the Year battle with Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron, whose tough-luck day at Charlotte (he finished 39th after being involved in an incident) helped significantly tighten the points standings between them.

Wallace, who finished 16th at Charlotte, has one top-five effort - a runner-up finish in the season-opening Daytona 500 - and is ranked 23rd in the standings. Byron, who has one top-10 and three DNFs in the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, is ranked 22nd – a slim two points ahead of Wallace.

Let’s Go #NCWTS Night Racing

Let’s Go #NCWTS Night Racing

Qualifying Tonight at 5:00 Eastern

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is back again this weekend at Kansas Speedway for the ‘37 Kind Days 250’ tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

The Johnny Sauter Show

Last weekend at Dover International Speedway, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returned to the track after a month-long hiatus. Johnny Sauter, substituting for the suspended Spencer Gallager, was victorious at the Monster Mile, leading 137 laps and winning his second race of the 2018 season. His first win was at Daytona.

It was also Sauter’s second win in a row at Dover after he won last year in the No. 21 Allegiant Airlines Chevrolet, having led the last 33 laps of the race.

This year marks Sauter’s 15th year in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and at the finish of last season, he had the most season wins of his career with four. This season, he has already taken home two victories with a lot of racing left (18 races, to be exact).

Sauter only had one finish outside of the top three this season – Martinsville, where he finished 19th.

Sauter is currently leading the driver standings with 238 points; followed by Ben Rhodes in the No. 41 Alpha Energy Solutions Ford with 187 points, and Noah Gragson placing third in the standings in the No. 18 Safelite Auto Glass Toyota with 180 points.

Taking a Look Back at Kansas

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Kansas Speedway have seen some trends in recent years, including the winning manufacturer for the last five years.

From 2013 to 2017, a Toyota has been the victorious manufacturer at the 1.5-mile track at Kansas Speedway, a record for the track.

Will a Toyota win again and make that six years in a row?

Quite possibly, as Kyle Busch will be returning to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Kansas where he won the race last year and in 2014.

Busch hasn’t raced in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series since Las Vegas on March 2, when he won.

Monster Energy #NASCAR Cup Series - Sunoco Rookie Outlook

William Byron - #NASCAR
Monster Energy #NASCAR Cup Series - Sunoco Rookie Outlook Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron, 20, is ranked 20th in the standings – 11 points over the series’ other Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender, Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. in 23rd position. Both will be making their first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start at Texas this weekend.

It has, however, historically been a good venue for Byron and he likely considers it a prime track at which to score his first top-10 finish of the year in the No. 24 Chevrolet.

Byron won in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series there in 2016 in only his eighth series start. And he had a pair of top-10s (seventh and ninth) there in the NASCAR Xfinity Series last year.

Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. - #NASCAR
Wallace, driver of the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 43 Chevrolet, has six NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Texas, earning a pair of top 10s. His best showing is a sixth-place finish in the April race last year. He has a pair of top 10s in the Camping World Truck Series as well, with a best of sixth place in 2013.

Phoenix #NASCAR Firsts and First-Timers

Phoenix #NASCAR Firsts and First-Timers As part of the multimillion dollar renovations, Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) was renamed to ISM Raceway. Other changes include new tools like video boards everywhere, wifi service all over the complex, brand new seating, and a whole new infield set up, with the traditional start-finish line being pushed to the south side of the track. The changes are all part of a $180 million renovation project.

ISM – Ingenuity Sun Media – will pay an annual single-figure million-dollar fee during the next decade for the track's first-ever naming-rights sponsorship.

Bubba Wallace, 24, leads the early #NASCAR Sunoco Rookie of the Year chase.

Both Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series rookies, Darrell Wallace Jr. and William Byron, will be making their first series start on the ISM Raceway oval.

Wallace, 24, leads the early Sunoco Rookie of the Year chase and is ranked 15th in points, thanks largely to a dramatic runner-up finish for his No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports team in the season-opening Daytona 500.

William Byron, 20, is still looking for his first #NASCAR Cup top-ten finish.

Byron, 20, is still looking for his first top-10 finish driving the famous Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet and is ranked 24th in the Monster Energy Series standings.

Statistically at ISM Raceway, however, Byron holds an edge. In his last start at the track – in the NASCAR Xfinity Series last November – he started second, led 171 laps and won the race, his fourth victory en route to the 2017 Xfinity Series title. He won the pole and finished fourth last March.

Wallace hasn’t led a lap at the track, but does have a career-best sixth-place finish last year in the Xfinity Series, with another top-10 (eighth place) in 2015.

Wendell Scott / Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. Making #NASCAR History

Wendell Scott / Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. Making #NASCAR History
Wendell Scott was the first African-American driver to win a premier series race. A trailblazer, Scott is recognized during the first race weekend of March, which coincides with his first start — March 4, 1961. NASCAR has created an original commemorative decal that is available to be placed as a B-post decal on all national series vehicles.

Wendell Scott - #NASCAR Commemorative Decal

Scott made 495 starts during his career and posted 147 top-10 finishes before retiring in 1973. Scott died in 1990. He won in NASCAR’s top national touring series on Dec. 1, 1963, on a 1-mile dirt track in Jacksonville, Florida. Scott was posthumously inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2015.

Interesting Fact: Did you know that Wendall Scott passed Richard Petty, who was driving an ailing car, with 25 laps remaining for his historic win? Bubba Wallace now drives for Petty Motorsports.

Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. - #NASCAR

Today, Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. is following down the inspirational Scott’s “tire tracks.” The twenty-four-year old rookie competes full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Richard Petty Motorsports. The ride made Bubba the first full-time African-American driver at the sport’s top level since Wendell Scott in 1971.

It is thought that him being one of the new, prominent faces of NASCAR could be a turning point for the sport.

“This is definitely helping, for sure,” Wallace said about his position with Richard Petty Motorsports. “I don’t know how long it’s going to take until we get there, but it’s been a fun journey so far, and we’ve only just started the schedule. It will probably take some years, though. “After being under the spotlight nearly 24/7 as Facebook Live followed him through the final four days leading into the Daytona 500 for its “Behind the Wall: Bubba Wallace” series, Atlanta seemed somewhat tame for the driver.

“After a couple of days, I’m like looking around. ‘Where are the cameras?’ It was just how much they were around,” Wallace said when he met with the media. “We went to dinner one night, Amanda (Wallace’s girlfriend) and I, and I was like, ‘I’m surprised we’re not mic’d-up right now.'”

Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. and the No. 43 The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will start today's “the Pennzoil 400” from the twenty-six position. It should be a fun show watching him maneuver the iconic #43 through the pack.

“The Cosmopolitan is one of the coolest places on the Strip,” said Wallace Jr. “Everything that is a part of the resort is the best of the best of Vegas. I enjoy going to Las Vegas, having fun, eating great food and just being able to relax at an amazing place like The Cosmopolitan. This is a pretty cool sponsorship.”

Richard Petty Motorsports with Click n’ Close Introduces the “Double Bubba” Bonus.

Victory Junction at the Daytona 500

Just in case you missed it . . . . Victory Junction was at the Daytona 500 last weekend. During the week Victory Junction, (a medically safe, yet exhilarating camp, that challenges children who have a serious medical condition to try things they never imagined possible,) hosted a few breakfasts as a meet and greet for donors.

Not that a thank you is necessary for supporters of this awesome cause.  NASCAR Race Mom loves how children entrusted to Victory Junction gain a greater understanding of their own strengths and courage. The camp creates lasting friendships with other campers who truly understand their situations.

Coincidentally, it was recently announced that Click n’ Close, the “Official Mortgage Provider of NASCAR” and Richard Petty Motorsports, in partnership with the Motor Racing Network and the Performance Racing Network, announced a joint partnership with Victory Junction, establishing the “Fastest Lap” Award at the completion of each Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race in 2018 on both radio networks!

For the fastest lap in each race, Click n’ Close will make a donation to Victory Junction. For the fastest lap in each race, Click n’ Close will make a donation to Victory Junction, a medically-safe camping facility that provides a life-changing experience for children, ages six to 16, with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses, at the conclusion of each race that corresponds with the fastest lap of the race in speed. MRN and PRN will then match that donation after each race.

In addition, to celebrate its partnership with driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. and Richard Petty Motorsports, Click n’ Close is introducing the “Double Bubba” bonus. If Wallace and the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team turns the fastest lap during a 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, Click n’ Close, MRN and PRN will double its donation to Victory Junction for that event.

“Click n’ Close is thrilled and honored to support Victory Junction this season,” said Wayne Arute, Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer, Click n’ Close. “Their mission is an impactful one and means a great deal to the NASCAR community, which has welcomed our Click n’ Close brand with open arms. We look forward to building our relationship with Victory Junction, starting this weekend.”

NASCAR fans are also challenged to join Click n’ Close to give back to Victory Junction by going to ClicknClose.com/NASCAR and make a donation of $43 or more to the camp.

“We are thankful to have Click n’ Close, the Motor Racing Network and the Performance Racing Network support Victory Junction this race season,” said Chad Coltrane, Chief Executive Officer, Victory Junction. “We’ve seen Click n’ Close get involved with Richard Petty Motorsports, NASCAR, our media partners, and now camp. They have shown their commitment to the sport, and we couldn’t be more thrilled they chose to support Victory Junction during each race season with this special award. We also want to thank MRN and PRN for their commitment to this program, too.”

Did Bubba Wallace Live Up to the #NASCAR Hype?

Did Bubba Wallace Live Up to the #NASCAR Hype?

“Drove Smart and Remained Patient”

If you follow NASCAR and Speedweek, you could not help but notice the name Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. In December 2017, in one of the Richard Petty Motorsport’s most anticipated moments in its history, it was announced that Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. would be the new driver of the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet, made famous by team co-owner, “The King” Richard Petty.

Wallace, 24, will compete full-time in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and for the ‘Sunoco Rookie of The Year’ beginning at the 2018 Daytona 500 today. However, Wallace was not new to the iconic MENCS ride. He had driven the car a handful of times in 2017, when Petty’s then-full-time driver Aric Almirola was injured in a race, Wallace filled in for four races in the 43 car.

“This is a dream come true to race for ‘The King’, Richard Petty Motorsports, the iconic No. 43 and for all the fans and partners that have and continue to support this team,” Wallace stated at the time. “I believe in what Richard Petty Motorsports is doing and their desire to win races. I believe this team, its partners and fans are ready to see some great things again. I’m humbled that they have chosen me to take that next step with them. I’m ready for next season to begin and to prove to people that we can compete at the level we all expect to be at.”

As the first full-time African-American driver in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series since Wendell Scott, all eyes were scrutinizing this young rookie.

In fact, Bubba even received a pre-race phone call from Baseball Legend Hank Aaron. Hank Aaron grew from humble beginnings in Mobile, Alabama, Wallace’s hometown, before passing through the sandlots with brief stops in the Negro Leagues and the minor leagues before he settled in with the Braves where he ultimately became one of baseball’s most iconic figures.

So How Did Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. do in the 2018 NASCAR Season Opener?

Wallace finished third in the first Duel 150 on Thursday, to secure a seventh place starting position for the 60th running of the Daytona 500. At the drop of the green on the Daytona 500, he maneuvered up to second place by lap three, right behind leader Denny Hamlin. In lap thirteen, after pit stops, Wallace restarted in third.

On lap twenty-eighth, it would appear that the #43 ran out of racing room and tagged the wall a bit. There was not much damage, but it put him back into fourteenth place. He dropped steadily after that, all the way back to twenty-fourth before surviving the first “Big One” to finishing Stage One in fourteenth.

During his pit stop the crew addressed his observation that the car was “on the free side” He started Stage Two from eleventh. The adjustment must have been positive because Wallace worked his way up to eighth on lap seventy-three.

Wallace did take some hostility from Trevor Bayne for blocking on lap eighty-four. Nonetheless they were both battling to stay in the top-ten. Darrell was again able to avoid a crash and emerged through the carnage in ninth. Wallace finished Stage 2 in a very respectable seventh place (out of twenty-one cars on the lead lap).

Bubba was lined up in eleventh place for the Stage 3 start. He was very impressively maintain his position is sixth place for most of this stage.

Wallace did fall back to tenth before the yellow flag fell with just ten laps to go.  With just a lap to go, Darrell was in the perfect position to create his own "luck" maneuvering on a rough ride below the yellow line to avoid last "Big One" of the event.

So did Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. live up to all the hype he received before his debut in the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Chevy? Driving from sixth to a second place finish Bubba’s performance surprised me in an encouraging manner.

I would have to give his rookie run an enthusiastic A+. Go Bubba - you earned a new fan.
