Homestead to be Last Full-Time Race For TBR

NASCAR Race Mom just heard that Leavine Family Racing has purchased Tommy Baldwin Racing’s ownership charter in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Not known how much it cost to be guaranteed participation in every race.

It is with mixed emotions that I write this today, but I want to address all of you personally.

The season finale at Homestead will be the last race for Tommy Baldwin Racing full-time. We felt that it’s time for a new chapter in our lives and we have sold our charter to a great group of people who will continue to guide our vision.

For the past eight years we’ve shown up at every race, worked hard to compete at the top level and bring value to our sponsors. I feel confident that we are moving on having accomplished that. There have been many teams like ours that have come and gone. I’m proud that we have been able to sustain ourselves from the very beginning.

Over the years we have been fortunate enough to have a great group of people both in the shop and on the road. In this business, you are really defined by the people you employ and I’m grateful for everyone’s hard work.

Getting sponsors these days is a tough task. Keeping them is even tougher. But we have had so many great supporters of our program. Whether they were a primary, associate or just a one-race sponsor, they were all great to work with and I thank them for believing in us.

We’ve had some really great drivers in our cars over the years. Each of them drove hard every lap – no matter how the car was handling. They always gave 110% and that’s all you can really ask from a driver. We’re proud of the names that were on the roof of our Chevrolets.

If you’re reading this, you already know that NASCAR is the greatest sport in the world. I have been blessed to have a career in motorsports because of how NASCAR has grown over the years.

Teams don’t always agree with their stance on rule changes or penalties or just the way things are done. But I can tell you that they have gone out of their way to help our team. They’ve brought us opportunities and have always made themselves available to meet with prospective sponsors if we needed them to. It’s been a privilege for me to say that I’m a NASCAR team owner.

Finally, there are you guys.

We can’t begin to tell you how much your support of our team has meant to us. You’re not just fans -- you’re friends and family to us.

When we have good days, you cheer us on. When we’ve had rough days, you give us encouragement. You have supported our drivers and our sponsors with so much enthusiasm. I promise you that it never went unnoticed.

So what’s next?

Well, we’re not 100% sure. We are going to work hard to get the best possible results in Miami, take a little family time and then figure out the rest. So, stay tuned – announcements will be forthcoming.

A NASCAR Driver, Toys And Lots Of Smiles

The patients at the Speediatrics® Unit at Halifax Health Medical Center, Daytona Beach, were in for a big surprise on February 19, 2016, when The NASCAR Foundation brought NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Regan Smith along for a visit.

Smith, who finished 15th in the first Can Am Duel on Thursday night to qualify for the DAYTONA 500, took some time out of his busy racing schedule to surprise the children at the Speediatrics® Unit with remote control cars from his sponsor Toy State. It didn’t take long until the toy cars were racing through the halls of the unit.

John, 14, was excited to meet the Tommy Baldwin Racing driver, who gave him a NIKKO Viper RC car. “I’m a speed person too,” John said to Smith with his voice full of joy.

The NASCAR Foundation’s mission is to help children who need it the most while putting smiles on their faces.

Smith asked Caitlyn, 13, how she was feeling. “I’m better now,” she said with a big smile on her face.

Smith, Sadler, Blaney and Suarez advance to #NASCAR Dash 4 Cash at Bristol

Regan Smith's eighth place finish in Saturday's Lilly Diabetes 250 XFINITY Series at Indianapolis Motor Speedway provided his JR Motorsports team a reason to celebrate. Smith’s top-ten finish was good enough to earn him a check for $100,000 as the second round winner of the Dash4Cash program.

Smith bettered championship leader Chris Buescher, Chase Elliott and Brendan Gaughan to claim Saturday's portion of the winnings. 

More importantly, since Regan also collected $100,000 on May 30, after winning the first round at Dover, Delaware, he is one step closer to winning a million dollars in the series' Dash 4 Cash incentive program.

If Smith wins the next Dash 4 Cash award and then wins the final round race outright on September 5th at Darlington, the NASCAR Driver would receive a total $1 million for the effort.

Smith, along with Indianapolis' runner-up Ryan Blaney, third place finisher Daniel Suarez and fifth place finisher Elliott Sadler now advance and are eligible for the third round of competition Aug. 21 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

In the meantime, Smith joked that he already had an idea how to spend at least a portion of his now $200,000 Dash 4 Cash effort.

"I'd like to buy a cool box, I'm really hot right now," he joked with a big smile.

Regan Smith, MADD Tie One On For Safety

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s "JR Motorsports" team is helping spread MADD's Tie One On For Safety message this holiday season. 

NASCAR driver Regan Smith, part of the JR Motorsports team and driver on the Nationwide series, is featured in a new video promoting the idea of planning ahead for a non-drinking designated driver, while standing in front of a race vehicle with "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving" on the hood and "Drive Sober, Arrive Alive" on the side, courtesy of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety.

NASCAR AND NHRA STARS TO “PAINT THE TRACK PINK™”

This month, the hottest color in motorsports will be pink when the biggest stars in racing take the track to show their support for those affected by breast cancer.

As part of Lionel Racing’s “Paint the Track Pink” initiative, drivers like Greg Biffle, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Courtney Force and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will drive pink race cars as they battle for the win during breast cancer awareness month. “The color pink is now a universally recognized show of support for breast cancer victims and survivors,” said Howard Hitchcock, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lionel Racing.

With the most popular drivers in both NASCAR and the NHRA driving ‘Paint the Track Pink’ cars, the entire racing community is going to make a strong statement of on-track support that fans can get behind, as well as raise awareness and funds for an important breast cancer charity, Hitchcock continued.

Not only will the pink cars on track serve as a reminder that there is still work to be done in fighting this disease, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each “Paint the Track Pink” die-cast will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), a Texas-based charity that works to increase awareness through education, provide diagnostic breast care services for those in need, and provide support services. 

We are excited to partner with Lionel Racing, the official die-cast of NASCAR,” said NBCF Senior Vice President of Development, Brent Hail. “This promotion not only educates race fans about the importance of early detection, but the funds raised will help provide mammograms and early detection services for women in need.

Smith Pays Tribute To Victims Of Aurora

DENVER, Colo. (July 27, 2012) -- Regan Smith's No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet will pay tribute to the victims of the Aurora, Colo. tragedy during this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The movie theater where the shooting took place is approximately seven miles from the Furniture Row Racing shop in Denver.

The paint scheme on Smith's car for Sunday's Brickyard 400 will include the following:

• The hood of the car will showcase a ribbon, and inside the ribbon will be a memorial cross and the red and gold logo that appears on the Colorado state flag.
  
• The rear quarter panels will read Aurora, CO and the names of the 12 people who were killed in the tragedy.
  
• The rear bumper (TV panel) will include the following inscription:
  For Those Lost, Those Injured
  And Countless Acts of Bravery

The tragedy struck close to the Furniture Row family. Kimber Avra, an employee of the Furniture Row Companies, was at the Aurora movie theater with her friend Micayla Medek. Avra suffered scrapes and bruises, but sadly, Micayla was one of the 12 who was killed in the shooting.

"Our hearts go out to the victims and to their families," said Furniture Row Racing general manager Joe Garone. "It really hits close to home for us here in Colorado. The movie theater where the shooting took place is only a few miles from where our team is based in Denver. We mourn the loss of life from this senseless tragedy, and feel we also need to stand up and acknowledge the heroism of those people who put their lives on the line to save others. Our thoughts this weekend will be with all the people who suffered from this horrific act of violence."
