Ross Chastain Overtakes William Byron Late to #Win Coca-Cola 600

Ross Chastain Overtakes William Byron Late to #Win Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte

Starting from the rear of the field in a backup car his team needed all night to prepare, Ross Chastain ran down the dominant car of William Byron to win Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Byron led 283 of 400 laps and swept the first three stages of NASCAR’s longest race. Chastain led the final six after diving below Byron’s Chevrolet entering Turn 1 on Lap 395 and sliding up in Turn 2 to clear Byron off the corner.

Chastain crossed the finish line 0.673 seconds ahead of the Hendrick Motorsports driver to win for the first time this season, the first time at Charlotte and the sixth time in his career.

“When I left the shop last night, I went over and sat in this car for the first time,” Chastain said. “It was about 10 o’clock when I left. They worked until 2:30. They were back at 5:30 this morning. Most of them drive 30, 45 minutes home. A little shower, I think. I don’t even know if they slept. Back there at 5:30. They get this thing ready, and that’s the dedication it takes from Trackhouse. There were people there that had their Saturdays off yesterday, and they came in.

“To drive on that final run in the (Coke) 600 and pass two cars that had been way better all night … (crew chief) Phil Surgen wanted me to pit two laps earlier (in the final stage). I went two laps longer (to Lap 350) just out of a little bit of confusion. Man, that paid off at the end. These Goodyear Eagles held on longer because they were a little bit fresher.

“Holy cow, we just won the 600!”

William Byron Recovers from Penalty to #Win Xfinity Series Race

William Byron Recovers from Penalty to #Win Xfinity Series Race at Charlotte

William Byron’s long rally from a pit-road speeding penalty put the driver of the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in Victory Lane — and left reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier heartbroken.

Fresh from the announcement of a four-year contract extension with Hendrick, Byron passed Allgaier for the lead through Turn 4 of the first lap of overtime at Charlotte Motor Speedway and stayed out front until a violent wreck involving Jeb Burton and Brennan Poole brought out the 11th caution of the race and froze the field.

By then, Connor Zilisch had taken second and Nick Sanchez third, as Allgaier faded to fourth.

“I was somewhat confident,” Byron said of his prospects for a rally. “I felt like if we got some yellows, it would be good, but, man, it didn’t work out the way we thought it (would). Just had a lot of green-flag running and couldn’t get back to the front.”

NASCAR Trucks

Corey Heim Dominates Charlotte; Takes 4th Truck Series #Win of 2025

Corey Heim Dominates Charlotte; Takes Fourth Truck Series #Win of 2025

This time, Corey Heim didn’t just slam the door on his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition — he nailed it shut.

Heim’s three previous 2025 wins notwithstanding, the driver of the No. 11 Tricon Garage Toyota has had difficulty closing out races with a dominant truck this season.

That was emphatically not the case on Friday night, when Heim led 98 of 134 laps and beat runner-up Ross Chastain to the finish line by 6.229 seconds in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Heim’s first victory at Charlotte and his fourth of the season was the 15th of his Truck Series career, tying him with Matt Crafton for 10th on the all-time career wins list. At age 22, he is the youngest to reach the 15-win milestone.

“I felt like we’ve had the speed the last couple years here, but circumstances haven’t let us get it done,” said Heim, who has won five of the last nine Truck Series races on intermediate speedways.

“Obviously, it was such a good truck. I had to execute on my part. The pit crew did a great job. Just a really nice clean day. … It feels great. It feels like we’ve had a lot of opportunities to do that this year, really. Just can’t say enough about these guys. My team gave me a great Tundra, and we just really checked all of the boxes tonight. It feels great.”

Clean and Green: Austin Green Conquers Charlotte

Austin Green Earns his First ARCA Menards Series Victory in Just his Second Start.

Austin Green was not even born when his father David, the 1994 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, claimed his lone ARCA Menards Series victory at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in what turned out to be his lone start on the platform.

Over three decades later, Austin joined David as an ARCA Menards Series winner by putting together a dominant performance in the General Tire 150 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. With the triumph, Austin and David became the ninth father-son duo to visit Victory Lane in the ARCA Menards Series.

“Everyone at [Pinnacle Racing Group] built a rocket,” Austin said. “Hearing the gap and seeing [Sawalich] fall back was always a good feeling. They told me to slow down a little bit at the end. That was hard to do but hats off to everyone at PRG.”

“The biggest thing for me with these big tracks is the aero,” Austin said. “Growing up on short tracks, you didn’t really have any of that, especially on road courses as well. That’s been the biggest hurdle for me this year. I’m slowly figuring it out and it was strategic to pack dirty air on those behind you and side draft. I had a blast.”

Jake Bollman Earns Bill McAnally Racing’s 100th Victory in Rain-Shortened Colorado 150

Jake Bollman Earns Bill McAnally Racing’s 100th Victory in Rain-Shortened Colorado 150

There were two victors in the ARCA Menards Series West’s return to Colorado National Speedway on Saturday evening, Mother Nature and Jake Bollman.

Only sixty laps in the Colorado 150 were completed before a persistent rainfall descended upon the .375-mile facility. With the weather showing no signs of dissipating, West Series officials made the decision to call Saturday’s race before the halfway point, handing Bollman his first victory after seven starts and Bill McAnally Racing’s 100th overall.

“What a night and what a car. This is incredible to be part of such a milestone for Bill and continue the tradition of this team in the ARCA Menards Series West. .... Bollman related. These guys did a great job preparing our NAAPA Chevrolet and this is extremely special to get a win in this paint scheme for the NAPA's 100th anniversary.”

The ARCA Menards Series West gets nearly a month off before making their second of two scheduled visits to Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on June 14. The NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by West Coast Stock Car Motorsports Hall of Fame will go green at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET that evening, with FloRacing providing coverage.

ARCA West 2021 at Colorado: Race Recap

ARCA West 2021 at Colorado (4/9): Race Recap

Joey Iest to Conquer the West!

By Nascarvd Nascarvédé

Update – Correction from Sharon Boswell. Mariah Boudrieau was in the #77 race car and did not wreck causing a caution - that was the #7 car .. Mariah spun out but did not wreck.

July 31, 2021, NAPA AUTO PARTS COLORADO 150 at Colorado National Speedway, Erie, CO (150 laps/50 miles)

Joey Iest to Conquer the West! #ARCA

If the weather disrupted the race day at the Colorado National Speedway with the cancellation of the combined practice / qualifying session and the one hour advancement of the start of the race, it did not however disturb the young Joey Iest in any way who won at 18 his first win in the ARCA Menards West Series,  the NAPA Auto Parts Colorado 150, 4th race of the 2021 season.

Yet it was not won when the race started. Indeed, Joey started only 9th on this bullring where to overtake a competitor, you have to strengthen your way of driving!

At the start, championship leader Todd Souza (# 13) took the lead. Quickly followed like his shadow by Cole Moore (# 99), Jesse Love (# 16), Jake Drew (# 9) and Trevor Huddleston (# 6). Dean Thompson (# 51) losing a few positions straight away. In the end, he will never be a candidate for victory and will end up outside the top 10 in 11th position.

You don't have to wait long for the first caution, caused by Hiroyuki Ueno. The Japanese driver who will have a complicated race as he will also be involved in the 3rd caution with his compatriot Takuma Koga (# 7). The time spent repairing the front end of the # 38 Ford Fusion will take it a long time from the action on the track.

On the 7th lap, during the restart, Cole Moore took the leadership and this was the beginning of the ride for BMR drivers since the following 126 laps would be dominated in part first by Moore then more than a hundred laps by the 2020 champion Jesse Love. But behind the brawl is intense. Paul Pedroncelli (# 31) had to retire on lap 10 due to a transmission problem.

First big disillusionment of the race on the 25th lap when Todd Souza had to leave the track to change his flat left rear tire, causing the second caution of the day. This mishap will make him lose two laps. He will manage to recover them thanks to two successive free passes later in the race. He will limit the damage to the championship by finishing 7th in the race.

At the restart of lap 32 Jesse Love took control with authority and kept him despite threats from Moore and Drew until a good 30 laps from the finish. In the meantime there will be the abandonment of Bobby Hillis, Jr.  (# 27) whose the old "Kamree", out of breath, is overheating ... and also 3 other caution flags. The one I already talked about between Ueno and Koga then the one caused by the local and debutante Mariah Boudrieau (# 77). The 5th and last yellow will take place at the same place in the backstretch on the 107th lap, this time caused by Josh Fanopoulos (# 21).

These multiple regroupings behind the pace car benefit two drivers, Eric Nascimento who climbs back into the top 5 from his distant 15th position at the start with the ex Toyota # 78 of Jack Wood renumbered with the # 4 here. But it's mostly Joey Iest that benefits. He's as always very fast and is full of confidence after finally having obtained a result to match his ambitions at Irwindale at the start of the month (3rd). He will first benefit from the loss of power of Trevor Huddleston, then 4th, on the 103rd lap to make it into the top 5 definitively, before successively defeating Dean Thompson, Cole Moore and Jake Drew on the last restart. Lap after lap he narrows the gap with Jesse Love and begins to attack with 20 laps remaining. Side-by-side for two laps before taking the lead 18 laps from the end. He will then gradually increase his lead while Love bravely resists Jake Drew despite a big heat stroke in his car.

Huddleston who after slowing down for a lap regains power but the damage is done. He's now one lap behind the leaders and will only finish 10th in the race.

The top10 is completed by Paul "PJ" Pedroncelli, Jr. in 6th position, debutante and Alabama native Jolynn "JoJo" Wilkinson takes a superb 8th position with the 3rd car from BMR while Bridget Burgess is 9th and last driver in the lap of the leader. Finally, John Wood for his return to competition finished 12th with his Chevrolet # 08.

Joey Iest therefore won his first victory in his 8th career start. It allows Naake-Klauer Motorsports to win its second victory after that obtained in 2012 in Sonoma by David Gilliland. David who is the owner of DGR, the team that runs Joey in the ARCA Menards East Series and who is a technical partner with Mike Naake and Tom Klauer in the West Series. The world is small!

In the championship Jesse Love seizes first position for the first time of the season. He's 2 points ahead of his teammate Cole Moore and 4 points ahead of Todd Souza. Dean Thompson and Jake are both at 9 points and Joey Iest climbs up to 6th position at 14 points.

Next race on August 21 for this year's second visit to the Irwindale, CA half mile.

#ARCA West 2021 At Colorado: Race Preview

Almost a month's wait since the Irwindale race! But our patience is rewarded with a nice entry list of 18 drivers. Especially since this race has not seen so many entrants since 2018. With even a sad record of only 11 drivers last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This .375-mile paved oval bullring still offers a lot of spectacles. This will be the 19th race of the West Series here since 1995. As often it's Bill McAnally Racing who holds the record for wins with eight, the last two with Hailie Deegan in 2019 and Jesse Love last year.

Eternal rival Bruncati Racing follow with three. Jesse Love had totally dominated this race in 2020 en route to his first championship. Note that Chris Eggleston with 3 successes is the most victorious driver in history at the Colorado National Speedway.

The key to success will be tire management because the race takes place in one segment and it's forbidden (except punctures) to change tires throughout the race.

I've said everything about this track in previous years so I'm going to focus on the entry list.

#4 Eric Nascimento

The Nascimento family made a deal with Velocity Racing, the family team that raced Jack Wood in the West Series in previous seasons, to use one of their cars. A good car because Jack had shown it was fast. Let's just hope the reliability is there this time around. The team uses the #4, the owner's license of which belongs to Bill McAnally Racing. That's why Alex McAnally's name is on the entry list. But the Nascimento family will take care of everything. Father Mike being the crew chief. This will be Eric's first West Series oval race after a successful run in Sonoma in June.

#6 Trevor Huddleston

The CNS is a short track that is doing well for Trevor as he had 1 top5 and 3 top10 in 3 races. Best result, a 3rd position in 2018. He got the 6th position at Irwindale, his best result this season. Now is the time to prove he can still win races. His 6th position in the championship is not worthy of a driver whose in his 4th full season in a top team like Bruncati Racing and with Bill Sedgwick as crew chief

#7 Takuma Koga

Irwindale’s race ended violently in the wall for Takuma following contact with Amber Balcaen. It’s one of his worst start to a career. But if you look at the stats, in recent years it's always in the 4th race of the season that Takuma gets his first top10. Regarding Jerry Pitts’s team, 3 races without a top10, this had never happened. But the potential is there. In addition, the CNS is precisely the type of bullring that Takuma likes. In 4 races here, he got 2 top10s.

#08 John Wood

What a pleasure to see John behind the wheel, who had been absent last season due to the pandemic. He obtained two top10s in 8 races at the CNS, including a superb 6th position in 2019. The best career result in 84 starts. Eternal friend Mike Holleran will be the crew chief.

#9 Jake Drew

A pole at Sonoma, a nice 4th position at Irwindale. The rookie seems to be comfortable regardless of the type of circuit. He and his crew chief Jeff Schrader seem to have found a perfect alchemy and he will be a serious candidate for the 2021 title of champion.

#13 Todd Souza

The experienced driver from Watsonville, CA is having the season of his life this year. 3 top10 in 3 races and leadership in the championship tied with Dean Thompson. The CNS is an oval that Todd appreciates with 4 top10s in 5 races including a 3rd position in 2019 as the best result. Last year he only finished 8th following an accident. CCR held a private session with two cars in preparation for this race.

#16 Jesse Love

Last year he dominated the race and claimed his third victory of the season. Leading him straight to the title of champion. This year for Jesse, the results are like a roller coaster! One race is fine and the next one is not. 6th in Phoenix, 19th in Sonoma and 1st in Irwindale. I hope Jesse will make the stats lie and have two good results in a row this season! If he wins, Jesse would join the very select club of drivers who have won the Colorado race twice in a row. A club currently made up of two members, Mike Duncan and Chris Eggleston.

#19 Jolynn Wilkinson

JoJo  will be making his West Series debut. She who drives in SLM and participates in the BMR Drivers Academy this year will be at the wheel of the 3rd car from BMR, the #19. A car that has been successively driven by Derek Kraus, Eric Nascimento and Amber Balcaen this season. She will be the 7th driver to use the #19 since BMR was created in 1992. And let’s note that after Hailie Deegan and Amber Balcaen, she will be the 3rd girl to ride with the #19. John Camilleri will be her crew chief.

#21 Josh Fanopoulos

What a pleasure to see that Josh has found a good sponsor who should allow him to participate in all races this season. Change of number for the occasion. But it’s still John Wood’s team. Joe Daley will be the crew chief.

#27 Bobby Hillis, Jr.

It's not just Todd Souza having his best career start to the season, Bobby is also. With 2 top10s in 3 races. To avoid damaging his new car, the old Kamree will be released at the CNS. A car known for its slowness but which is a favorite with spectators. Oddly enough, despite a career that started in 2001, this will only be Bobby's 4th race on the CNS (2004, 2019-2020).

#31 Paul Pedroncelli

The father seems to have taken a liking to the West Series. What was to be a one shot in Sonoma has been going on ever since. And that's good ! But like in Irwindale, in the event of a problem with P.J.'s car, Chevrolet #31 will be renumbered as #33 because it's first and foremost the son's backup car. But to prove the seriousness of the Pedroncellis' approach, Rodd Kneeland will once again be the crew chief. Especially since the father is getting closer to the top10. 13th in Sonoma and 11th in Irwindale.

#33 Paul Pedroncelli, Jr.

Did P.J. and his crew chief Ty Joiner dream of such a start to the season? I honestly don't think so. Because without this engine failure at Irwindale, P.J. would not be “only” 7th in the championship. But he's only 11 points behind the leader. The dream can still go on. It will be his first race at the CNS.

#38 Hiroyuki Ueno

Our Japanese friend is playing overtime with an extra race. And that's good. Because he was not unworthy at Irwindale. On the contrary, his race was serious and the goal of learning perfectly fulfilled. The Ford #38 is not the fastest car, that's for sure, but this chassis has a great merit, that of having allowed so many drivers to cut their teeth in the West Series in the last few years. Mike Holleran having the gift of splitting himself, he will also be the crew chief of #38, just as he is also of #08. But since the two cars are from the same team, that makes things easier!

#51 Dean Thompson

15th in Phoenix, 6th in Sonoma and 2nd in Irwindale (with pole). The rookie impresses everyone. Oh yes, I forgot to say that he's also the leader of the championship! The association between Bruncati Racing and High Point Racing is a perfect success. As does the relationship between Dean and his crew chief Travis Thirkettle. This is definitely THE SURPRISE of the year. I have no doubts that #51 will be on Victory Lane before the end of the season.

#54 Joey Iest

FINALLY !!! It took 7 races to finally see Joey get his first career top10 (3rd at Irwindale). Yet in each race, he was among the fastest. But incredible bad luck followed him like its shadow. Mike Naake can catch his breath. Joey is talented and with high spirits, he will be formidable this weekend!

#77 Mariah Boudrieau

The Colorado driver will make her debut on a track she knows all about. An advantage especially with the limited practice time provided by ARCA at the CNS. Another advantage for Mariah is to start with a team renowned for the quality of its equipment. The #77 of PP1M being regularly in the top10. Joe Nava and his team have been participating in the West Series since 1998 and have 5 wins, 27 top5, 76 top10 and 2 poles in 181 races. Mariah will be the 23rd driver of the team and the 2nd woman after Michelle Theriault in 2005. Dave McKenzie will be the crew chief.

#88 Bridget Burgess

After a great race in Sonoma, Irwindale’s one will not leave good memories for the Burgess family. Not fast enough and ultimately the collateral victim of an accident. 10th last year at the CNS, she has the potential to do better.

#99 Cole Moore

Ultra domineering in BMRDA races, Cole has a little more trouble in the West Series. Yet the results are good. 4th in Sonoma and 5th in Irwindale. But despite everything, Cole seems a tone lower and is not yet contending for the win. But it's only a matter of time and his crew chief Mario Isola is a great asset. The level this year in the West Series is incredible with many contenders for victory in every race. He finished 14th in 2016 for his only race at the CNS.

Now it's time for the show.

Have a good race!

Mariah Boudrieau Female Driver Delivers Wins

Admirable Goals for An Aggressive Racer

Female Driver Delivers #Wins / Mariah Boudrieau

Third generation racer, youngster Mariah Boudrieau has been busy this season making her dreams a reality. Last year, she finished eighth in the Super Stock division and became the first female to win ‘Rookie of the Year’ at Colorado National Speedway in that series.

I-25 Speedway – “Thunder in the Rockies” offers Saturday night racing from May to September. Located six miles north of Pueblo, Colorado, the short race track is a 1/4 mile paved oval.

Freshly after her Late Model win at I-25 speedway on June 26th, NASCAR Race Mom had the opportunity to learn more about this Colorado Springs athlete.

Posted by Mariah Boudrieau Racing on Monday, 28 June 2021

"I am racing a late model for the 2021 racing season. It is my first season in the car and I am doing exceptionally well. I am also working on racing the Arca Menards series, but I am in need of sponsors." Mariah Boudrieau

Female Driver Delivers Wins / Mariah Boudrieau

Question: As a young female, what type of pressure are you under to represent your gender?

As a young female in racing, I always feel I must prove that I am good enough to run with the guys. I am the only female currently running late models in Colorado at my home track of Colorado national speedway, and the other track of I-25 speedway.

So far in my racing career, I have experienced some hardships of being a young female . . . . some of the male drivers think that they can intimidate me, but I never let them. I also have experienced some amazing male drivers that support me and help me in my racing journey.

Question: What does your team offer potential Sponsors?

For my local racing and the Arca Menards series my team offers potential sponsors a multitude of different things. We offer: social media posts, videos personal appearances, autograph meet and greets, race car appearances, and pit passes for special sponsors.

Question: What is your favorite part of the racing community?

My favorite part of the racing community is the interaction I get with my fans, the fans are absolutely amazing towards me. I also enjoy the supportive competition I get with my fellow drivers.

Question: What is your goal for 2021?

My goal for 2021 is to finish top 10 in the late model points at Colorado National Speedway. I also want to try and make a race for the ARCA Menards series!

Question: Where do you see yourself in 2022?

In 2022 I hopefully see myself running a full if not almost full schedule for the ARCA Menards series!

Admirable goals for an aggressive driver.

Todd Gilliland this weekend at his home track, Colorado National Speedway.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season hits the halfway mark with the NAPA/Toyota 150 at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, Colorado, on Saturday, June 10.

Hometown boy, Chris Eggleston hopes a return home will help him continue building momentum in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.  The 2015 series champion chipped into his points deficit at California’s Orange Show Speedway in the series’ most recent event, earning his first Coors Light Pole Award of the season en route to the victory, putting him within 11 points of the K&N Pro Series West points leader and Bill McAnally Racing teammate Todd Gilliland.

Eggleston’s victory was his second of the season — but it was his first since the season opener at Arizona's Tucson Raceway — and it snapped Gilliland’s dominant run of four straight wins.

Jack L. Hudack (1939 - 2014)

Oct. 12, 1939 - July 25, 2014
R.I.P. (Race In Peace)

Jack was born in Santa Barbara, CA, to Alvin and Katherine Hudack. Jack grew up in Carpinteria, CA, where his love for building and racing cars began. He graduated from Carpinteria High School in 1957. Jack joined the United States Air Force and was assigned to Travis AFB as an aircraft mechanic. While working on base he met the love of his life, Leona Grace, whom he married in 1963. Jack and Leona stayed in Fairfield where they raised a son Steven, and daughter, Jackie. Jack was a proud and loving father who adored his three grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew and Skylar. All now live in Vacaville.

Jack (fourth from the right) with the No. 99 Peak Toyota Team after on a
top-five finish at Spokane County Raceway in August of 2013.

Jack turned his interest in cars into a profession in Fairfield. He worked as a mechanic and Parts Manager before he became the Fairfield City Fleet Supervisor in 1977. Jack's commitment to his community was evidenced by his tenure as the Treasurer of the Fairfield Falcon Football Boosters who funded and built the Schaefer Stadium. He retired from the City of Fairfield in 1997 and became a member of a NASCAR racing team. Jack was well known and respected and accumulated an ever growing number of friends among those with whom he worked. He will be affectionately remembered as simply "The Tire Guy."

Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years Leona; son, Steven (Aileen); daughter, Jackie Dummer (David) and three grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew and Skylar. His garage is full of testimony to his mechanical excellence in the form of a 1931 Ford, he built from scratch, and a professional quality 1934 Ford Roadster.

His large family helped him through the nine month battle with cancer that took his life on July 25. He was loved by Leona's three sisters and their husbands, (Lenny and Bud Tonneson, Marianne and Roger Burton, and Frances and Kenny Rogers) and a brother, Chris and his wife, Pam Grace; numerous nieces and nephews. Jack is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Larry and Marianne Hudack who live in Southern CA, and shared his love of cars.

He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a man of high integrity who said what he meant and meant what he said and he'll be missed beyond words.

The Smith Family was honored to have worked with Jack Hudack while Moses was racing with BMR.  Jack was always cheerful and positive.   He was a true treasure.

In honor of Jack, the Bill McAnally Racing drivers all had Jack Hudack decals on their car for the July 26 NAPA Auto Parts/Toyota 150 at the Colorado National Speedway. Chris Eggleston in the BMR NAPA Filters/H20 Toyota won the race for their fallen teammate.
