Kraus Leads BMR Trio Headed To Combo Race

Annual K&N Pro Series East-West Event In Iowa

Derek Kraus will lead the charge as Bill McAnally Racing goes for a fifth consecutive win in the annual NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway on Friday.

Teams from across the country will travel to the 7/8-mile track in Newton, Iowa for the Casey’s General Stores 150.

Todd Gilliland won the prestigious race for BMR in 2016 and 2017 – his two full seasons in the K&N West, in which he won back-to-back championships. Brandon McReynolds swept two combination events for BMR in 2015, the last year in which Iowa Speedway hosted two East-West races in a season. He was the first driver with multiple wins in the event.

Kraus, who took over BMR’s No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry after Gilliland graduated to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this year, returns to Iowa after winning the pole and finishing 11th in last season’s East-West race.

The 16-year-old NASCAR Next driver from Stratford, Wisconsin is currently third in the K&N West championship standings – with two wins, five top-five, and six top-10 finishes in seven starts this year. He won the most recent K&N West race – at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon last month. This past weekend, in his first visit to New Hampshire Motor Speedway, he set a track record in winning the pole and had a fifth-place finish in K&N East action.

Cole Rouse

Cole Rouse – a 21-year-old from Fort Smith, Arkansas – returns to Iowa Speedway, where he finished 12th in the combination race in his rookie season in 2016.

Rouse is fourth in the championship standings, as he competes in his first season with BMR; driving the No. 99 NAPA Filters Toyota Camry. He has three top-five and six top-10 finishes in K&N West action this year – including a sixth-place finish at Roseburg. He finished 10th in the K&N East race at New Hampshire.

Hailie Deegan

Seventeen-year-old series rookie Hailie Deegan of Temecula, California will be competing in her first combination race at Iowa. A member of the NASCAR Next program that spotlights NASCAR’s rising stars, Deegan drives BMR’s No. 19 Mobil 1 / NAPA Power Premium Plus Toyota Camry.

She leads in rookie points for the K&N West and is fifth in the overall championship standings – with three top-five and seven top-10 finishes. She had a career-best second-place finish at Roseburg and was 16th at New Hampshire.

A special VIP experience is planned for a group of NAPA guests at Iowa Speedway on Friday. Their visit, coordinated by Sales Manager Randy Judge of NAPA’s Des Moines Distribution Center, will take them behind-the-scenes with a tour of the NASCAR garage and a special meet-and-greet with BMR’s drivers. The guests will also have the opportunity to be present at the drivers meeting and attend the driver introductions.

Activities off the track continue after the race, with the NAPA AUTO PARTS Concert Series at Iowa Speedway featuring a performance by Dylan Scott.

The BMR drivers are slated to go on stage during the event.

This marks the fourth straight year for the NAPA Auto Parts Concert Series to be featured at the speedway.

The East-West combination race from Iowa is scheduled to be televised on NBCSN on Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. PT.

BMR 16-Year-Olds Capture Spotlight At Roseburg

Kraus, Deegan Finish 1-2 In K&N West Action #NASCAR #KNWest

Two 16-year-old NASCAR Next drivers from Bill McAnally Racing claimed the top two spots in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West action at Douglas County Speedway on Saturday night, with Derek Kraus holding off Hailie Deegan in a two-lap dash to the finish to win the Clint Newell Toyota 150 presented by NAPA AUTO PARTS.

It marked the second win of the season and third career series victory for the Stratford, Wisconsin driver who pilots the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry.

Deegan – a rookie from Temecula, California – grabbed her career-best runner-up finish in just her seventh career start, driving the No. 19 Mobil 1 / NAPA Power Premium Plus Toyota Camry.

The third BMR driver, Cole Rouse, ran with the lead pack through much of the race; but was relegated to a sixth-place finish after contact from another car late in the event.

After starting second on the grid, Kraus jumped into the lead on Lap 21 and paced the field to the finish. It appeared he was going to cruise to victory, with a lead of more than six seconds as the laps began to wind down – but that lead evaporated with a string of four cautions late in the race. Although he was challenged on each restart, Kraus maintained command as the racing went into overtime.

“Our NAPA Toyota was really good,” Kraus said. “We were able to get out front with a pretty big lead by the middle part of the race. Then we were really good on the restarts there at the end and that was the difference. We were able to avoid spinning our tires and pulled away.”

Deegan started fourth and maintained the spot through the first half of the race. She was up to third by the midway point, as the BMR drivers ran 1-2-3. She moved to second a few laps later and then found herself on offense and defense during the restarts late in the race. Deegan crossed the finish line .493 seconds behind her teammate to take second, equaling the best finish by a female driver in the series.

“Our Toyota was one of the fastest cars on the track,” said Deegan, who said she changed her approach for this race – choosing to get more aggressive earlier in the event.

“In this race, I came to the realization that I need to start working on people earlier in the race and not ride around,” she said.

Kraus remains third in the championship standings, just nine points out of first. He has two wins, five top-five, and six top-10 finishes in seven races this season.

Rouse is fourth in the standings, 24 points out of the lead. The 20-year-old from Fort Smith, Arkansas has three top-five, and six top-10 finishes this year.

Deegan continues to lead the rookie field and is fifth in the overall standings, 27 points out of first. She has three top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

The BMR team was involved in a variety of activities leading up to Saturday’s race in Roseburg. The drivers made a visit to the Clint Newell Auto Group dealership, as well as an appearance at the NAPA AUTO PARTS Store in nearby Winston. BMR’s 2-seater No. 16 NAPA Toyota provided some thrilling laps around the speedway to selected guests. A NAPA customer kickoff dinner was held Friday night, and NAPA guests were hosted at a VIP Hospitality at the track on Saturday.

The Clint Newell Toyota 150 Presented by NAPA AUTO PARTS is slated to be televised on NBCSN on July 6 at 10 a.m. PT.

The next event on the series schedule will be the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on July 27.

Michael Self Wins the #KNWest Race From Pole

On September 30th, Self made his way to victory lane for the first time since 2013 in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driving the No. 9 Sinclair Oil Ford Fusion at the .25-mile Meridian Speedway, in Meridian, Idaho. The win marked the seventh of Self’s career in NASCAR K&N Pro Series competition.

However, it did not take long for the young driver to capture his next 2017 victory.

Before the driver from Salt Lake City, Utah, returned to the third-mile All American Speedway in Roseville, CA, he had some trepidation.

I’m a little undecided on how I feel going in to this weekend. Despite being the track I learned how to race stock cars on back when I was driving late models, it’s plagued me in the K&N cars. I got a few wins here back in the late model days, but my luck in the big cars has just been absolutely terrible despite being fast. There have been times when I’ve had a dominant car here, but been wrecked by lapped traffic, or cut a tire, or had something go wrong. Regardless of all that, we’re coming off a huge win at Meridian a few weeks which I’m still pumped up about, and I’m looking forward to trying to finish this season with the Sunrise Ford guys out on a high note. It’s been awesome getting to know all those guys, and to have the opportunity to grow and now capture a win with them.”

As it turned out, Michael’s Roseville jinx was not present last Saturday. 

Fastest in practice and the Coors Light Pole Award winner, Self-led 137 laps en route to his second straight K&N Pro Series West win. After losing the lead on the initial start, he reclaimed it on Lap 13 and never looked back, as he crossed the finish line 2.946 seconds ahead of eventual second-place finisher Todd Gilliland.

"That's the best short track car I've ever run right there," Self said. "When you come to these places, you gotta have a car that turns in the center really good, but also has drive off the corners and doesn't get loose on you. That's the ultimate challenge on a short track, and we had both here tonight. That's so, so rare. The car was so good, and never had any fall off, and that's what you look for. Keeping the balance in the car every lap was the most important thing, and we were able to stretch it out."

NASCAR stars who got their starts in the K&N Series

Kyle Larson: Driving for Rev Racing as a member of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program, a 19-year-old Larson found Victory Lane twice and won the championship in his K&N Pro Series East season debut in 2012. He also made one start in the K&N Pro Series West (Sonoma, 2014), which resulted in a win. 

Darrell Wallace Jr.:  Darrell Wallace Jr. won his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut in 2010 at Greenville, driving for Rev Racing and the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program. He became the first African-American driver to win a race in series history en route to Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors. Wallace went on to pick up five more wins between 2010-12 before moving up the NASCAR ladder. 

Joey Logano: In 2007, Logano drove for Joe Gibbs Racing and started the wave of young talent in the series, becoming the first NASCAR K&N Pro Series East driver to win Sunoco Rookie of the Year and the championship in the same season at 17. Logano also won two K&N Pro Series West races over the years, and twice won the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. 

Chase Elliott: Elliott started racing in the K&N Pro Series East in 2011 at 15 years old. He earned his first NASCAR victory in 2012 at Iowa Speedway, and also took a 2016 trip to Victory Lane in the K&N Pro Series West at Sonoma. 

Ben Kennedy: Kennedy's K&N experience has paved the way for opportunities in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Daytona Beach, Florida, native has 42 starts in the K&N Pro Series East since 2010, with his first start coming at age 18. He's won twice during that time, both coming in a 2013 full-time season that saw him finish fourth in the series standings. Kennedy also has made seven career starts in the K&N Pro Series West. 

William Byron: Just two years ago, William Byron made his name known through the K&N Pro Series East; four wins in the division propelled him to earn the 2015 K&N Pro Series East title, paving the way for a Camping World Truck Series ride with Kyle Busch Motorsports the following season. The future Hendrick Motorsports driver also made two starts in the West division in 2015. 

Kevin Harvick: The California native has run 23 events in the K&N Pro Series West over a span of eight seasons, including his full-time season in 1998 when he won the series championship. Harvick has seven wins in the K&N Pro Series West, his most recent trip to Victory Lane occurring earlier this season at Sonoma 

Austin Dillon: Dillon ran a full season in the K&N Pro Series East in 2008, earning one win at Greenville and finishing second in the championship standings. He raced three additional East events in 2009 and 2014, as well as three K&N Pro Series West races in 2009, 2014 and 2015. 

Daniel Suarez: The 2016 XFINITY Series champion made 43 starts in the K&N Pro Series Series East, notching three wins in 2013 and 2014 while driving for Rev Racing as a member of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program. He also has four starts in the West Series, his most recent start coming this season at Sonoma Raceway. 

Ryan Blaney: A young Ryan Blaney made eight starts in the K&N Pro Series East and West in 2011 and 2012, earning his first NASCAR win in the 2011 West finale at Phoenix. Blaney also ran the K&N Pro Series West race at Sonoma this season 

Ty Dillon: Dillon made 11 starts in the K&N Pro Series East in 2009-2010, recording a win at Gresham Motorsports Park at the age of 18. He also two starts in the West Series in 2010 and 2011. 

Trevor Bayne: The 2011 Daytona 500 winner, Trevor Bayne scored his first NASCAR victory at Thompson in 2008 in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Driving for Dale Earnhardt Inc., Bayne also won two poles and finished fourth in the championship standings. 

Martin Truex Jr.: The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points leader, Martin Truex Jr. made his NASCAR debut in the K&N Pro East in 2000 at 20, running three full seasons and then a partial schedule in 2003. He collected five wins and 13 pole awards in that span before moving up to the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2004 and winning the first of back-to-back championships. 

Alex Bowman: Before being tabbed to replace Dale Earnhardt Jr. next year, Alex Bowman transitioned from sprint cars to stock cars with a season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2011. Bowman finished sixth in the championship standings and edged Chase Elliott and Corey LaJoie for the series’ Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors. 

Currently, Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland are two K&N Pro Series drivers on their way to stardom. The two drivers have been battling on track all season long with a total of seven East wins between them -- Burton has four, while Gilliland has three. 

Currently, Burton leads Gilliland in the standings by just four points. Gilliland also has six wins and leads the K&N Pro West standings, where he is the defending series champion. The East has three races remaining (concluding at Dover on Sept. 29), and the West four (finishing at California’s Kern County on Nov. 4).

Todd Gilliland Edges Chris Eggleston For Roseburg Win

Scores K&N Pro West Victory With Late Pass On BMR Teammate

Todd Gilliland edged his Bill McAnally Racing teammate Chris Eggleston to win the Clint Newell Toyota 150 Presented by NAPA AUTO PARTS at Douglas County Speedway on Saturday.

The pair waged a fierce side-by-side battle around the tight 3/8-mile track, thrilling fans that packed the fairgrounds venue in Roseburg, Oregon for the annual NASCAR K&N Pro Series West event.

Gilliland, the defending series champion, pulled ahead coming to the checkered flag in the No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry – to capture his sixth victory of the season and his 13th career series win. He and Eggleston, the 2015 series champion who drives the No. 99 NAPA Belts & Hoses / NAPA Filters Toyota Camry, have won 10 of the 11 series races so far this season.

Their teammate Derek Kraus finished third in the No. 19 Carlyle Tools / NAPA Belts & Hoses Toyota Camry, to give BMR its third 1-2-3 finish of the season.

“That was tough racing right there with Chris Eggleston,” said Gilliland, a 17-year-old from Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. “We both had pretty evenly matched cars tonight. It showed when we could race side by side for a really long time.

“It was pretty nerve wracking, but we’re out here for the win and the 16 team got it tonight,” he said. “I want to thank NAPA, Toyota TRD, Frontline Enterprises, and everyone who gets us to the race track.”

Gilliland, who started third on the grid, acknowledged how tough it was to run so many laps side by side.

“It’s really flat,” he said. “The second groove usually doesn’t come in too much. Tonight, we were stuck on the bottom a lot. You just have to be really patient and stay really calm when you’re side by side like that for so many laps.”

Eggleston, who won his fourth pole of the year in qualifying, talked about the battle in which the pair traded the lead back-and-forth nine times.

“It seemed like we got off to a really good start and had a very, very well balanced race car there at the beginning,” said the series veteran from Erie, Colorado. “Even though the 16 and 19 fell way back, I felt we did a good job of conserving our tires, getting only quarter-throttle down the straight away.

“The 16 was probably a little better than us midway through the race,” Eggleston said. “He kind of used us up quite a bit here and there. We did everything we could to keep our composure and keep pace with him. He made a few mistakes in lapped traffic and we were able to get back by him. He used us up, again, and we were able to get back by him cleanly. And he used us up, again.

“I hope the fans liked it, because that was really exciting,” Eggleston said. “I wish we had been on the other side of the fence, obviously – sitting in the winner’s circle. But it was a good 1-2-3 finish for BMR.”

In last year’s Roseburg race, Gilliland and Eggleston tangled while racing for the lead and were knocked out of contention for the win.

Gilliland, a NASCAR Next driver, extended his lead in the championship standings to five points over Eggleston. Gilliland has six wins, eight top-five, and 10 top-10 finishes in 11 starts this season.

Eggleston has four wins, 10 top-five, and 11 top-10 finishes.

Kraus – a 15-year-old from Stratford, Wisconsin – leads the rookie points and is third in the overall standings. He has six top-five and seven top-10 finishes.

Saturday’s win by Gilliland marked the eighth win by BMR in the past 11 series races at the Roseburg track.

The event had a variety of special activities with sponsors, including a Fan Appreciation Gala on Friday evening. Activities on Saturday featured a big Toyota Let’s Go Places VIP Hospitality Corral and a VIP pit tour.

The race, which was the 14th series event at Douglas County Speedway, is scheduled to be televised on NBCSN on Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. PT.

Three races remain on this year’s series schedule, with the next stop being at Idaho’s Meridian Speedway on Sept. 30.

Harvick Wins the K&N Pro Series West Race in Sonoma

Kevin Harvick  won the trophy yesterday as he made his NASCAR K&N Pro Series West return. However, that was not a surprise to most. In fact, Rookie Will Rodgers who won pole and record his best finish, (second) had a feeling.

"For some funny reason, I had a feeling as far back as four weeks ago that it was going to be me and Kevin coming into turn 11 on the last lap," Rodgers said.

"And sure enough, there we were. He ran a really good race, I learned a lot from him. We were able to lead some laps there in the beginning. It doesn't feel too bad to finish second today."

Harvick’s goal was not just to win this event:

"It always feels good to win no matter what it is," said Harvick. "The main objective was to come have fun, shine a little light on the series and shine a little light on how much talent is in the series. This particular series did a lot for me and to come back and be a part of it, see the health of it and see the young guys racing was the main objective.

Harvick, who emerged from Bakersfield, and Rodgers, who is a Murrieta boy, represented their state well in the sixty-four lap road race.

"It's always fun to race in front of your home state fans. It's been a long time since I raced in this particular series here, so it was a fun weekend."

The Carneros 200 will air on NBCSN on Thursday, June 29 at 11 p.m. ET.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will return to the track on July 28 for the annual combination race with the K&N Pro East at Iowa Speedway.

Michael Self Leads Sole #KNWest Session At Road Course

Michael Self was quickest in the only NASCAR K&N Pro Series West practice session Friday afternoon for the Carneros 200 at Sonoma Raceway. Self's No. 9 Sunrise Ford/Eibach Springs Lucas Oil/Braille Batteries Ford turned a lap of 1:18.524 seconds (91.233 mph) around the 12-turn road course.

The three Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers schedule to participate in this event all recorded practice times within the top-ten.  Current Monster Energy Series rookie Daniel Suarez took runner-up position. Kevin Harvick, the 1998 K&N Pro Series West champion, was fifth on the practice sheet. While recent first-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series winner Ryan Blaney practiced in seventh place.
