Jimmie Johnson, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion and co-owner of Legacy Motor Club, is among this year’s five inductees into the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame.

The El Cajon, Calif. competitor, winner of 83 NASCAR Cup Series events in 16 consecutive seasons and recent inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, will be joined for enshrinement by the late Dick Cobb, Las Vegas, Nev., winner of eight track championships over a 45-year racing career in Nevada and California; Eric Holmes, Escalon, Calif., winner of three NASCAR West (now ARCA Menards Series West) titles; Jimmy Vasser, Canoga Park, Calif., 10-time Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) winner, Indianapolis 500 co-owner champion and 2023 IMSA GTD championship co-owner; and Calvin (Cal) Wells III, NASCAR Cup Series race winning team owner, Off-Road Hall of Fame inductee and current chief executive officer of Legacy Motor Club.

The Class of 2024 – the hall’s 21st – will be enshrined Thursday, June 6, during the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame’s induction gala, presented by World Wide Technology Raceway, at Sonoma Raceway’s Turn 11 Club VIP/Hospitality complex encircling the road course’s iconic Turn 11.

“Our Class of 2024 is second to none in diversity of competition,” said Ken Clapp, Chairman and CEO of the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame. “Jimmie Johnson, Eric Holmes and Dick Cobb mastered three different levels of NASCAR competition. Jimmy Vasser, a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) champion and Cal Wells, an off-road racing Hall of Famer and team executive add two more racing disciplines to this year’s Class.

“We will be announcing our five Heritage inductees in a few weeks – selectees representing additional forms of competition.

“I am most excited about the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame’s Pioneers of Speed initiative, providing us with the opportunity to honor those whose careers began and often ended before World War II. Many 21st Century fans may not recognize the names and achievements of these distinguished and courageous figures. All, however, deserve to be honored and remembered through our organization.

“We will be announcing the first 10 honorees later this spring.”

The event opens a packed weekend of racing at Sonoma Raceway, which includes the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR/ARCA Menards Series West and the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The organization also will induct its seventh Heritage class, comprised of individuals whose careers largely ended prior to 1971. The 2024 Heritage inductees will be named in March. Also to be named is the West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame’s Pioneers of Speed, whose careers preceded or spanned the World War II era.

Also featured will be the 4th Annual Kickin’ Doorz Down Philanthropist of the Year Award presented by 51FIFTY. This award recognizes an individual that has displayed a heart for giving back to others, through charitable giving or in-kind services to the industry. Previous honorees are Mike Curb, 2001 and the Sonoma Chapter of the Speedway Children’s Charity in 2022. Last year’s honorees are the foundations of 2023 West Coast Stock Car/Motorsports Hall of Fame inductees Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick.

Televised highlights of the 2024 induction ceremonies will be broadcast later this summer; network, air dates and times to be announced.

on Bill McAnally Racing Roster

A two time Daytona 500 winner
Michael Waltrip
Michael Waltrip, Eric Holmes and Patrick Staropoli, will join driver Brandon McReynolds to compete for Bill McAnally Racing in select series events in 2014.

Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 winner, is slated to race in two series events in 2014. It will mark his fifth straight season of competing in a BMR entry. The co-owner of Michael Waltrip Racing has one victory in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado in 1997.

Holmes, a three-time champion in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, is scheduled to compete in select series events for BMR in 2014. In addition to winning series titles in 2006, 2008 and 2010; Holmes has 17 wins and 13 poles in 102 starts.

Pursley Charges To Victory At Kern

Pursley Wins Inaugural NASCAR
K&N Pro Series West Race
At New Bakersfield Track

K&N Pro Series West Trophy

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2013) – Greg Pursley won the NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Kern County Raceway Park on Saturday to claim the victory in the inaugural NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at the new high-banked, half-mile track that opened earlier this year.

It marked the fifth win of the season for the 2011 series champion and his 18th career series victory.

Pursley moved to the lead just before the midway point and ran a fierce pace in the final laps to hold off a strong challenge from Michael Self to win by .178 seconds. Conserving early was part of his strategy for the race, Pursley said.

“When we got the race going, I hung out for a little bit and saved the tires as much as I could,” he said. “And once we got out front, I tried to save as much as I could.”

But he turned up the wick in the closing laps, as he was challenged for the lead.

“The (car No.) 21 was coming on pretty hard there at the end,” Pursley said. “We had a yellow flag with about 20 to go. I had to put down about 20 qualifying laps and he was right there. He gave me a great race.”

For Pursley, who early in his career was a regular competitor in the late model division at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield before its closure, winning the first series race at the new track had extra meaning. In addition, it was a special win for some of his crew.

“It’s a hometown win for my crew chief Jerry Pitts and a couple of our guys,” said Pursley – who raced out of Newhall, south of Bakersfield, for much of his career. “It’s a real emotional win. I won a lot of races at the old Mesa Marin track and I’m happy to be the inaugural winner at Kern County Raceway.”

Self trailed Pursley to the finish, with Eric Holmes close behind. David Mayhew and Cameron Hayley rounded out the top five.

Championship points leader Derek Thorn, who started on the outside of the front row and led the initial lap of the race, faded in the closing stages of the event and finished sixth. He was followed by Dylan Lupton, Shane Golobic, Matt Tifft and Jason Fensler.

Gray Gaulding captured the spotlight earlier in the day at KCRP as he won the 21 Means 21 Pole Award by Coors Brewing Co., and in doing so set the record for the youngest pole winner in the series at 15 years eight months 16 days. Gaulding – who also holds the record as the youngest pole winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, where he ran the full season this year – led 60 laps early, but had his night end early when he punctured a tire and hit the wall on Lap 112.

With the win, Pursley moved back to second in the standings – 16 points behind Thorn with one race remaining to decide the 2013 championship. Thorn has 593 over Pursley’s 577. Pursley's teammate Hayley is 18 behind Thorn with 575 points . Self is fourth with 563, while Lupton is fifth with 506. Completing the top 10 in points are Carl Harr, Daryl Harr, Taylor Cuzick, Eric Holmes and Giles Thornton.

The NAPA Auto Parts 150 marked the return of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West to Bakersfield, an area rich in West Coast racing history, after Mesa Marin Raceway closed in 2005.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will wrap up its 2013 schedule with the Casino Arizona 50 at Phoenix International Raceway on Nov. 9.

His only series win came at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., in 1997.

Social Media Updates
from the K&N Pro Series West!

Bob Butcher's Facebook - 14 September 2013 08:15
A lap of practice this morning. To note this year is the huge dirt hills obstructing much of the 2.2 mile East course this year. The hills are built for the motorcycle events this year but certainly curtail fan view from grandstands as well as control tower plus the need for more spotters around the course for the drivers. The West course way down past the starter's stand is unchanged. Our old K&N course using both East &West courses at over 4 miles is affected also. — at Miller Motorsports Park.

Kwasniewski Toughs Out Roseville Win

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Dylan Kwasniewski got what he needed.

Dylan Kwasniewski earned a huge NASCAR K&N Pro Series West victory on Saturday in the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.

Crucial Victory Gives Teen K&N West Points Lead
By Shon Sbarra, NASCAR
October 14, 2012 - 1:22am

The 17-year-old from Las Vegas rebounded from an early flat tire to win the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West action on Saturday night at All American Speedway and regain the lead in the championship standings, with just one race left on the schedule.

After starting on the pole for the fifth time this season, Kwasniewski fell back through the 24-car field in the early going with the tire problem. After a quick pit stop to change the flat, he began to scratch and claw his way to the front of the field. Kwasniewski made a Lap 119 pass on Eric Holmes and led the rest of the way for his third victory of the season and the fifth of his career.

In Victory Lane after the race, Kwasniewski talked about his early misfortune and battling back for the win.

“We didn’t even lead a lap; then we got a flat tire,” he said. “Right after I got in and we changed that flat, I got taken out and went to the back again.”

Despite the tight battling that went on around the third-mile Roseville oval, Kwasniewski was able to work his way back to the front.

“We just had an awesome car,” he said of the No. 03 Royal Purple/Rockstar Ford. “That was by far the best race I’ve had all year. It was so good to finish in the front. There’s no better feeling.

“I’m in the lead by one or two points,” Kwasniewski said of the championship standings. “This was by far the best race. We not only gained the points lead, but we won the race. I can’t thank the guys enough, and my mom, too. This is the happiest I’ve been all year.”

Holmes, who led a race-high 101 laps, held on for second – finishing .436 seconds behind Kwasniewski.

“It was a great night for the NAPA Toyota No. 20 car,” Holmes said. “I’m disappointed we didn’t get the win, but Dylan had a really fast car coming through the pack. Congratulations to him. That was an awesome win for him. On long greens, I was a little better than him, I felt. But on the short greens, he got by me. It was great side-by-side racing through the front of the field.”

David Mayhew was close behind in third. Derek Thorn, who lost the lead to Holmes after contact on Lap 33, recovered to take fourth – while Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Cameron Hayley finished fifth. Jamie Krzysik finished sixth in his series debut, with Travis Milburn in seventh and rookie Dallas Montes in eighth. Former series champion Mike David, making his first start since 2009, and Jonathon Gomez rounded out the top 10.

Kwasniewski came into the night trailing Gene Price Motorsports teammate and defending NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion Greg Pursley by 14 points in the standings. It was a sub-par performance for Pursley. After starting 13th, he ran into early trouble and had to make a quick pit stop. Starting from the back, he also made his way to the front and was up to fourth by the midway point of the race. He faded in the second half, however, and ended up 13th.

Kwasniewski came away with a two-point lead over Pursley as the series heads to the season finale, Casino Arizona 50, at Phoenix International Raceway on Nov. 10. Thorn is third in the standings, with Holmes fourth and Mayhew fifth. They are followed by Michael Self, Hayley, Austin Dyne, Gomez and Ryan Philpott.

In addition to the series championship, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year title will be decided at Phoenix – with Dyne holding a slim lead over Hayley.

The Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 will air on SPEED on Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. ET.

K&N West News & Notes: Albuquerque

Pursley, Kwasniewski Chase Title As Series Visits New Mexico
By Kevin W. Green, NASCAR

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The battle for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship continues as the series heads into its final three races of the season. Defending champion Greg Pursley holds a 15-point advantage over second-year driver Dylan Kwasniewski in the championship standings as the series makes its inaugural visit to NAPA Speedway just west of Albuquerque, N.M., for the NAPA Auto Parts 150 on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Pursley and Kwasniewski are teammates at Gene Price Motorsports. They both excel on track and are driven to win, but beyond that the two are quite different. Pursley is a 44-year-old former motorcycle racer who can be found working in the GPM shop when he is not behind the wheel of a stock car. Meanwhile, Kwasniewski, as a member of NASCAR’s Next 9 program, is one of nine NASCAR K&N Pro Series drivers who represent the next wave of young talent set to make an impact on the national series scene. He became the first 15-year-old to race in the series when he joined the circuit early last season and has said he wants to be the David Beckham of NASCAR.

Pursley was dominant a season ago, winning six of the first eight races en route to the series title. Although his four wins this season have been more spread out over the schedule, it was his two most recent wins – July 28 at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, Colo., and Aug. 26 at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway – that fueled his move past Kwasniewski in the standings. If he retains the lead through the final three races, Pursley will become the 13th driver in series history with back-to-back championships with the most recent being Mike Duncan in 2004 and 2005.

“We plan to go out there and keep doing what we’re doing, keep our heads down and keep trying to pull off these top five finishes,” Pursley said. “Our goal now, obviously, is to finish in front of the 03 car for the last three races. We had a feeling it was going to come down for the championship to the last race. It’s pretty cool to have both teams come out of Gene Price Motorsports and do that.”

Kwasniewski also had a great season in 2011, with a record–setting year as a series rookie. His success has continued this year, with two wins and three poles. When he took over the lead in the championship standings just before his 17th birthday, he became the youngest driver in series history to lead the points. Now, he’s looking to gain the lead back and take the title.

“I think we definitely have a chance,” said the Las Vegas teenager. “We have a great team and great sponsors, with Rockstar and Royal Purple. It’s going to be tough to beat Greg. I think our team can pull together and I think we can get the strength to succeed in those last couple of races.”

Pursley Dominates In Portland Victory

Fourth K&N West Win In 2012
For Defending Champ

By Shon Sbarra, NASCAR

PORTLAND, Ore. – NASCAR K&N Pro Series West points leader Greg Pursley was the class of the field in the NAPA Auto Parts Salute To The Troops 125 on Sunday at Portland International Raceway.

The driver of the No. 26 GPM/Star Nursery/Real Water Ford – hailing from Newhall, Calif. – started the day with his fourth Coors Light Pole Award and then led all 63 laps en route to his fourth win of the season and the 13th of his series career.
Even though it appeared Pursley was on cruise control at times; that was not the case from his point of view.

“After the pit stop, I really couldn’t save anything,” Pursley said. “Those guys were fighting hard for position. I had to run (hard) and hope there wasn’t going to be a green-white-checkered.”
The triumph – Pursley’s first in Portland – erased some bad memories. Last season with a very similar performance throughout the race, engine problems forced him to the garage and an early end to his day.

“We’re really happy to get out of here with a win,” Pursley stated. “We really love coming here to Portland and we’ve done well here, but never could get a win until today.”

The rapidly improving Michael Self battled a stomach ailment all weekend, but was able to persevere and claim second place. It was his fifth top-10 performance in his last six outings.

“When that first yellow came out I realized that my stomach was rolling over on itself, but once it went green the adrenaline kicked in and I was fine,” Self said. “Despite being sick, we’re really having a lot of fun right now and getting some good finishes.”

Three-time series champion Eric Holmes crossed the line in the third position, but hoped for a little more.

“That race was a lot of fun today,” Holmes stated. “I thought we had something for (Pursley). On the second-to-last restart I got a really good jump and almost beat him into (Turn) 1. I was hoping to do the same on the last (restart), but he jumped that start a little. He did what he had to do there.”

Kwasniewski worked his way up to a fourth-place finish after starting 11th on the grid while Derek Thorn started from the rear of the field due to an unapproved change to his car after qualifying and came home in fifth.

David Mayhew, Brian Wong, Dale Quarterley, Jim Inglebright and Austin Dyne rounded out the top-10 finishers. The race was slowed due to caution just four times for 15 laps.

It was the first wire-to-wire victory in the series since Dylan Kwasniewski accomplished the feat on May 5 at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway. Pursley last went the distance on June 11, 2011 at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Pursley extended his lead over teammate Kwasniewski to 15 points with three races remaining with Mayhew, Thorn and Holmes completing the top five.

The NAPA Auto Parts Salute to the Troops 125 will air on SPEED on Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. ET.
The next event on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West schedule is at NAPA Speedway in Sandia, N.M, on Sept. 29.

Holmes Gets First At Evergreen

MONROE, Wash. – Finally Eric Holmes gets to celebrate a win at Evergreen Speedway.

After finishing in the top 10 in his three previous starts at the historic .646-mile oval, Holmes was able to pass Michael Self for the lead on Lap 131 and remained out front the rest of the way to win the NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by Gene Price Motorsports on Saturday for his first win of the season and 17th overall in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West competition.

“This is a great win. We’ve been running pretty good, but we’ve had some really bad luck this season,” Holmes said. “Maybe this can get it turned around.”

The win for the driver of the No. 20 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota out of Escalon, Calif., was especially sweet after a disappointing finish in his last start at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway at which he experienced engine problems while leading the race. He was forced to settle for a 23rd-place finish.

Additionally, the win was the 50th for Bill McAnally Racing comprised of 49 championship events and one special non-points event.

“I didn’t know about the 50-win thing until about a month ago and I wanted to be the one to get it. But with the bad luck we had been having I wasn’t sure we need the extra pressure,” he said. “I’m really happy for the whole team now that we got it. Now it’s time to move on and get some more wins down the stretch.”

For Self, the runner-up finish illustrates his progression in stock-car racing having cut his teeth on karting and open-wheel racing.

“I’m really happy with our performance tonight. Our oval program is really coming along,” said the 21-year-old out of Park City, Utah. “To come into a track like this and finish second is great. Eric’s car was just too strong for us tonight, but we’ll keep at it.”

Derek Thorn, who started from the rear of the field due to a move to a back-up car, finished third. The car change was necessitated by a hard crash into the Turn 1 wall during practice earlier in the day.  Jonathon Gomez and David Mayhew finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Holmes qualified third and remained near the front of the pack throughout the first half of the race before making his move and taking the lead from Self on Lap 131.

“I knew we had a good car in practice. I didn’t think it would be that dominant, Holmes stated. “I hustled on that restart and was able to get around (Self). It was a great race.”

Completing the top 10 were defending series champion Greg Pursley, who started from the pole, points leader Dylan Kwasniewski, Daryl Harr, Ryan Philpott and Carl Harr.

The win also gave Holmes a locked-in spot to the UNOH Battle At The Beach on the .4-mile oval at Daytona International Speedway next February during Speedweeks.

In the championship point standings, Kwasniewski remains in the top spot with a six-point advantage over teammate Pursley. Mayhew holds down the third position followed by Thorn.

The NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by Gene Price Motorsports will air on SPEED on July 26 at 3 p.m. ET.

The next event on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West schedule is the NAPA/Toyota 150 at Colorado National Speedway in Dacono, Colo., on July 28.
