The innovative experience will feature a custom-branded, ultra-fast scanning, 27.5-inch Hunt Brothers Pizza Flowcode on the hood of the No. 4 Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford Mustang. Harvick will race on Sunday in the Toyota Owners 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway.

After losing the lead to Austin Cindric on a restart with 26 laps left, Custer regained the top spot on Lap 231 of 250 and pulled away for his second victory of the season. In a race that dodged a persistent threat of rain, Custer crossed the finish line 2.639 seconds ahead of Cindric.

Not only did Custer win for the fourth time in his career—and for the first time on a short track—but he also claimed the $100,000 Xfinity Dash 4 Cash bonus that goes to the highest finisher of four eligible contenders.

“We had a great car,” Custer said. “(Crew chief Mike Shiplett) made great adjustments as it went… This one means a lot. We hadn’t had a short-track win yet. We’ve struggled a lot at short tracks, but this helps

“A lot of my friends give me crap for being bad at this place, but I finally won, so I’ve got a little bit of bragging rights there, so that’s night. I’m just so happy. Two wins—that’s pretty awesome.”

Truex Jr. Wins Richmond Cup Race

Saturday night’s victory in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway was a first for Martin Truex Jr.—and more of the same for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Truex won his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on a short track in his 81st try and in the process picked up his first victory with Joe Gibbs Racing since moving from now-defunct Furniture Row Racing between seasons.

At the same time, Truex gave JGR its third straight victory in NASCAR’s top series and sixth in nine races this season. Joey Logano finished .178 seconds behind the race winner, as Gibbs and Team Penske maintained their stranglehold on the premier division. Penske drivers Logano and Brad Keselowski triumphed in the three races JGR hasn’t won.

“It means a lot to break through, especially here at Richmond,” said Truex, who won for the first time this season and the 20th time in his career. “I’ve always really enjoyed this track. I’ve always loved coming here. The short track win–everybody kept asking me when it was going to happen.

Michael Self Wins ARCA at Salem

Michael Self Goes Singing in the Rain to Victory Lane in Salem

Michael Self (No. 25 Sinclair Lubricants Toyota) scored his second consecutive ARCA Menards Series victory in Sunday’s rain-shortened Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem Speedway. Self started fourth, took the lead at lap 27 and from there he dominated until Mother Nature intervened at lap 98.

“I owe all of this to my Venturini Motorsports guys,” Self said in a makeshift victory celebration. “We knew yesterday we were going to have a good racecar. We didn’t have a lot of qualifying speed but we knew once the race started, especially if it was cool and cloudy, that we’d be good.”

Chase Elliott - Spring Forward

It's almost Spring Break time for #NASCAR  drivers as the first off-week of the season is around the corner.

It was a frustrating day for pole winner Chase Elliott as the Hendrick Motorsports driver lost the power steering in his No. 9 Chevrolet barely 20 laps into the race, then was involved in an incident just shy of the halfway point of the 500-lap race. He finished eleventh and on the lead lap.

Regardless, Chase heads into this weekend's Richmond race fresh off his first pole at Bristol. He currently sits tenth in the driver standings as the top Hendrick Motorsports and second-best Chevrolet driver.

Chase started and finished 2nd at the spring Richmond race last year.

There will probably be a huge party at the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) facility on Monday, as the organization and Toyota swept the weekend at Richmond Raceway for the second time in 2018.

Christopher Bell – NASCAR Xfinity Series

Christopher Bell kicked off the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs with his win at Richmond Raceway. The checkered flag for the ‘GoBowling.com 250’ was his fifth win of the season.

“I’ll tell you what, buddy, that’s pretty cool,” Bell said. “It’s not very often that you get to win with a car that’s not a winning car, so we’ll take it. Just thank you to my pit crew for the awesome pit stops tonight. Jason Ratcliff [crew chief] did a great job making this thing better each and every time we hit the pit road. Man, I'm just pumped. To be able to sweep Richmond and to get five wins on top of that just couldn’t be happier.”

Bell also won the Xfinity Series race at Richmond in April.

Kyle Busch – Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

Kevin Harvick started on pole while Kyle Busch had to go to the back of the field (39th) due to unapproved adjustments to his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota following qualifying. However, in the end, it was 2015 Champion, Busch who held off a hard-charging Harvick in the ‘Federated Auto Parts 400’ for the win at Richmond Raceway.

It was his sixth career victory at the ¾-mile track and the 50th win of his Cup Series career, tying Ned Jarrett and Junior Johnson for eleventh on the all-time list.

“It’s really good to have the win to be able to go into next week. I think anytime you can punch your ticket into the next round just makes it even better,” said Busch, who led 92 laps after starting from the rear of the field “The car wasn’t great early, but once we made some adjustments, the car really came to us and took off.” 

Busch also won the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond in April.

Next Weekend

Next weekend remains prominent on all the playoff drivers' minds as four of the sixteen drivers will be eliminated. The third playoff race at Charlotte Motor Speedway offers additional question marks since it will be contested on a completely unknown circuit. The ‘Roval’ is part road course and part oval; a configuration that has never been utilized in the series.

Christopher Bell Wins Richmond Xfinity from Pole

The Bell is Ringing Loudly as He Sweeps the Season at RR

Christopher Bell, who was racing with a heavy heart last night, won the Xfinity race at Richmond to secure his spot in the next round of the playoffs.

“More importantly, we are racing with heavy hearts for a fellow sprint car driver Greg Hodnett, he lost his life last night . . . . so I am thinking about him – there are a lot of us thinking about him, so that is the priority." Christopher expressed right after climbing out of the #20 Rheem Toyota.

Winning the first race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs at Richmond Raceway takes some of the pressure off the twenty-three-year-old as it automatically advances him into the next round. With five wins this season, Bell is one of the favorites to win the championship. He is also the leader for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year award.

“To be able to come out here and to win on a restart like that is really special,” Bell said in Victory Lane. “We weren’t the best car, that’s for sure. On the long run those guys would just drive away from me. The pit crew did an awesome job keeping me out front. Got to restart on the front row and that was key.”

Ross Chastain finished runner-up, Daniel Hemric finished third, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Matt Tifft rounded out the top -five.

The series heads to the ROVAL next weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the final road course event of the season. There will be an open test on Thursday (Sept. 27) as it will be the first time teams have ever turned laps at the 17 turn track. Rain is in the forecast all of next weekend, which would make the middle race of the opening round of the playoffs even that much more of a wild-card race

Joe Gibbs Racing Sweeps at Richmond

Kyle Busch and Christopher Bell Celebrate Wins at the Short Track

Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) signed an extension with Toyota Racing, an agreement confirmed by team owner Joe Gibbs on Saturday afternoon at Richmond Raceway.

That was not the only fact confirmed at Richmond Raceway. JGR established dominance at the 0.75 mile, D-shaped, asphalt race track located just outside Richmond, Virginia with a win in both the Xfinity and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races.

Not too surprising however; over the last 27 seasons, Gibbs' teams have won Cup titles with Bobby Labonte (2000), Tony Stewart (2002, 2005) and Kyle Busch (2015). The organization switched manufacturers from General Motors to Toyota in 2008. Joe Gibbs Racing has served as the NASCAR flagship team for Toyota ever since.

Kyle Busch wins third straight race with late charge at Richmond

The driver of the No. 18 Toyota got what he needed late in Saturday night’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway—cautions and short runs in the final 40 laps—to win his third straight Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, matching Kevin Harvick’s feat from earlier in the season.

Busch streaked away from the rest of the field on a series of late restarts, ultimately beating Chase Elliott to the checkered flag in overtime to record his fifth victory at the .75-mile short track and the 46th of his career, tying him with NASCAR Hall of Famer Buck Baker for 15th on the all-time list.

"I think the difference for us tonight was just the adjustments (to the car)," Busch said. "Trying to stay with the race track all night long. (Crew chief) Adam Stevens and my guys did a phenomenal job. I think one of the other keys to the night was just my guys – my pit crew. They got us out front when it mattered the most those last two pit stops. They were awesome tonight on pit road."

"It’s definitely cool we’ve won three in a row," Busch said. "We did it a couple years ago, and now I don’t know if you can shoot for four in a row. It’s hard to go to Talladega with that much of a winning streak and think that you can go to Victory Lane, but we’re going to go there anyway and give it a shot.

Note: Winning three straight Cup races isn’t a novel experience for Kyle Busch, who scored back-to-back-to-back victories at Kentucky, New Hampshire and Indianapolis after missing the first 11 races of the 2015 season because of injury. Busch went on to win the series championship that year…

Christopher Bell holds off Noah Gragson for Xfinity win at Richmond

In a long green-flag run fraught with spellbinding tension, Christopher Bell held off Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Noah Gragson to win Friday night’s ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Raceway.

Bell spoiled Gragson’s prospects for a victory in his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut, passing his teammate for the lead on Lap 172 of 250 and staying in front—if only just barely—the rest of the way.

Bell crossed the finish line .423 seconds ahead of Gragson, after the driver of the No. 18 Toyota got to the bumper of Bell’s No. 20 in the closing laps.

"I had to work for it," Bell said of his second career victory, his first of the season and his first at Richmond. "My teammate was really good. I knew throughout both practices that both of our cars were going to be really strong.

"Joe Gibbs Racing has been producing really, really fast Camrys for the last couple weeks, and it’s really shown… All in all, it was enough to stay in front of him at the end."

Two Races To Go And Plenty Of XFINITY Playoff Spots To Fight For

Following the 24th race of the 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series season at Darlington Raceway, six drivers – William Byron, Justin Allgaier, Ryan Reed, Elliott Sadler, Brennan Poole and Daniel Hemric - have all clinched a spot in the postseason on either wins or points.

Though Jeremy Clements has a win, he has not yet clinched a Playoffs spot because he hasn’t clinched a top 20 spot in the standings. Clements is currently 18th in the standings, 101 points ahead of 21st, and can still possibly fall out of top 20 in the next two races. 

If Clements was to fall out of the top 20 in the standings, even though he has a win, he would be ineligible for the postseason. Clements can lock himself into the top 20 and the playoffs with 17 points this weekend.

With two races to go and several NASCAR XFINITY Series playoff spots still up for grabs in Friday night’s Virginia529 College Savings 250 at Richmond Raceway (on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio at 7:30 p.m. ET) .

Here are the clinch scenarios for this weekend.

• Cole Custer (0 Wins, 590 Points, +316 Points Ahead of 21st) – Custer can clinch on points with 11 points and a new winner. If there is a repeat winner, he would then clinch on points with eight points. He can also clinch a playoff spot with a win. Custer has made two series starts at Richmond, posting one top 10 and an average finish of 9.5.
• Matt Tifft (0 Wins, 558 Points, +284 Points Ahead of 21st) – Tifft can clinch on points with 43 points and a new winner. If there is a repeat winner, he would then clinch on points with 40 points. He can also clinch a playoff spot with a win. Tifft has made two series starts at Richmond, posting a best finish of 14th earlier this season. His average finish at RIR is 23.5.
• Blake Koch (0 Wins, 511 Points, +237 Points Ahead of 21st) – Koch can clinch a spot with a win. He could also clinch on points, but would need help. Koch has made 12 career starts at Richmond posting one top 10 and an average finish of 24.2.
• Michael Annett (0 Wins, 490 Points, +216 Points Ahead of 21st) – Annett can clinch a spot in the playoffs with a win. He can also clinch on points with a repeat winner and help. Annett has made 10 series starts at Richmond posting one top five, three top 10s and an average finish of 16.6.
• Brendan Gaughan (0 Wins, 487 Points, +213 Points Ahead of 21st) – Gaughan can only clinch a spot in the playoffs this weekend with a win. Gaughan has made 11 series starts at Richmond posting two top 10s and an average finish of 18.0.

The remaining drivers in contention to make the NASCAR XFINITY Series playoffs can only clinch a spot in the postseason this weekend with a win:

• Dakoda Armstrong (0 Wins, 467 Points, +193 Points Ahead of 21st)
• Ross Chastain (0 Wins, 432 Points, +158 Points Ahead of 21st)
• JJ Yeley (0 Wins, 429 Points, +155 Points Ahead of 21st)
• Ryan Sieg (0 Wins, 413 Points, +139 Points Ahead of 21st)
• Brandon Jones (0 Wins, 388 Points, +114 Points Ahead of 21st)

Impossible to Clinch: Joey Gase (0 Wins, 274 Points, 13 Points Behind 20th In Points) - Even with a win, he would not clinch a Top 20 spot, so he cannot clinch a Playoff berth at Richmond. If he can't clinch a Top 20 with a win, no driver below him in the standings could clinch either.

Rutledge Wood Named the Honorary Pace Car Driver

Wood Will Lead the 4-Wide Salute to the Fans Prior to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race “Under the Lights

Richmond Raceway announces NASCAR on NBC Features Reporter Rutledge Wood as the Honorary Pace Car Driver for the Federated Auto Parts 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series on Saturday, Sept. 9. Wood will lead the field in the Official Toyota Camry Pace Car, while drivers in the Monster Energy Series form the 4-Wide Salute prior to the green flag as part of Fan Appreciation Weekend.

"I look forward to be the Honorary Pace Car Driver for the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway," Wood said. "It is a dream come true, and I am beyond excited to participate in Saturday’s pivotal race in the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season."

As part of his day at the track, Wood will be introduced at the Monster Energy Series Driver/Crew Chief Meeting, taking place in The Classic Amphitheater. 2017 RICHMOND NATION members and RICHMOND NATION members who renewed for 2018 are invited to the meeting, making it the largest Driver/Crew Chief Meeting in NASCAR history at the 6,000-seat venue. He will also get a unique view of the track from the pre-race stage as he will be introduced to the crowd. Wood will cap his race day by leading the field to green in the last race to make the Monster Energy Series Playoffs.

“Rutledge is the perfect person to be the Honorary Pace Car Driver for Fan Appreciation Weekend,” said Richmond President Dennis Bickmeier. “Rutledge is a crowd favorite and one our fans will love to see wheeling the pace car around the iconic ¾-mile D-shaped oval. It will be a special moment for all when the drivers line up for the 4-Wide Salute to show their appreciation for the fans.”

In Wood’s role with NASCAR on NBC, he contributes reports on the storied raceways, unique towns and race fans that make NASCAR an American treasure. He made his Olympic debut with NBC Sports as a reporter during the 2016 Olympic Games. Prior to NBC, Wood was a correspondent for Fox Sports 1’s NASCAR Cup Series pre-race show, NASCAR RaceDay, including the annual NASCAR Awards Banquet. Wood has also served as co-host on History Channel’s Top Gear, the American iteration of the legendary BBC Program, and Lost in Transmission.

Woods first experience in NASCAR came during his first job traveling the NASCAR circuit for Country Music Television’s mobile marketing activation. Soon after, he was hired by SPEED, where he worked for ten seasons covering NASCAR.

Richmond Raceway hosts NASCAR for two nights of racing “under the lights” on September 8-9. The fall race weekend, presented by Who’s Your Driver, will see history on display as Dale Earnhardt Jr. makes his final, career, two-race appearance as a driver.

The weekend gets started on Friday, Sept. 8, with on-track practice for both series and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Pole Qualifying for both weekend races. The action then dials up as the rising stars of tomorrow compete in the Virginia529 College Savings 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. on NBCSN, the sport’s best take to the track for the Federated Auto Parts 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race as NASCAR crowns 2017 Regular Season Champion.
