Family Knows You Best (#nascar)

At our Christmas gather, I received the above depicted "Adult Beverage" kit.  While everyone else was gifted with their favorite whiskey and a mix - NASCAR Race Mom's kit came complete with just a small bottle of Crown Royal - proving that family knows you best!

NASCAR Driver Clint Bowyer had his own "Family Knows You Best" Experience thanks to his #sisterinlaw.  Clint tweeted an image of his two presents which were wrapped in paper decorated with the image of Jeff Gordon and his #24 Car.

In 2012, Bowyer and Gordon collided on the Phoenix International Raceway track during the a Sprint Cup Series race.  The police had to break up the fights in the garage area after the crews took the disagreement there!

Of course, NASCAR Champion Jeff Gordon had to put his two cents in with a reply tweet!

Yup family knows you best!

Hoping you enjoyed a MERRY NASCAR CHRISTMAS !!!

Route for the 2015 Kyle Petty Charity Ride

Scenic Route Drafted By Popular Don Tilley

Most children view heading off to camp as an annual tradition, an iconic week blocked off the calendar during an otherwise normal summer schedule.

Unfortunately for kids who require ongoing medical care, whether living with conditions such as rheumatology, spina bifida or cerebral palsy, may never experience the joy of carefree days filled with horseback riding, fishing or swimming…unless they are fortunate enough to attend Victory Junction. Located in Randleman, N.C., Victory Junction is a year-round camping environment for children, ages six to 16, with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. Their mission is to provide life-changing, exciting and empowering camping experiences to these children – in a safe and medically sound atmosphere.

Even though it costs more than $2,500 for one child to attend Victory Junction for a week, each individual is able to do so at no cost – thanks to the generous support Victory Junction receives through fundraising efforts, like the Kyle Petty Charity Ride.

In the year 2015, the Charity Riders will traveled a scenic trek from the shores of Monterey Bay to the Ozark mountains (Santa Cruz, CA to Branson, MO) over the course of seven days.  The trek begins Saturday, May 2 and ends Saturday, May 8.

The route was drafted by the late Don Tilley. Tilley was a legend in racing and Harley-Davidson circles. He helped launch the charity ride in 1995 and led all twenty of Kyle Petty’s “Charity Ride Across America” treks. Tilley died as he lived for most of his 78 years; while riding his Harley.

“Don taught me how to ride long distance, love Harleys & most importantly how to be a friend,” NASCAR driver Petty tweeted in August of 2014.

The 2014 Total = 1,914 campers and their family members attended Victory Junction free of charge.

Further, for information and updates on the 21st Anniversary Ride, taking place May 2 through May 8, 2015, follow the Charity Ride on Facebook and/or Twitter and/or Instagram.

Greg Pursley Retires A Winner

After winning his second K&N Pro Series West Championship earlier this year, Greg Pursley hinted that he would retire as a driver.  The retirement is more official now.

“This one is just as special as winning the first one, due to the fact that it’s the last ride for Gene Price Motorsports,” said Pursley. “To end the season and to end Gene Price Motorsports with a championship is pretty much the only way to go out. It’s pretty cool that we got to do that.”

Pursley showed no indication that his skills were waning in what turned out to be his final season. Pursley finished the year with two wins, three poles, 11 top fives and 13 top 10s in 14 starts this season, his sixth for championship car owner Gene Price.

Greg Pursley and wife Heidi point to his name on display at the NASCAR Hall Of Fame.

Daniel Noltemeyer Wins The Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award

Receives $100,000 Donation For Best Buddies, 2015 Toyota Camry

Daniel Noltemeyer of Louisville, Kentucky, representing Best Buddies Kentucky, was presented with the fourth annual Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award on Friday night, during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards at Wynn Las Vegas.

Noltemeyer, one of four national finalists for the award, will receive a $100,000 donation for Best Buddies Kentucky from The NASCAR Foundation, in addition to a 2015 Toyota Camry provided by Toyota, the award’s 2014 Official Car Sponsor. The other finalists will receive $25,000 donations for their respective charitable causes.

Noltemeyer, 32, was chosen via an online vote conducted on NASCAR.com. He is a founder of Best Buddies Kentucky, an organization committed to facilitating social inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Noltemeyer, who has Down syndrome, has become a renowned Best Buddies spokesman – and not only in his home state. He also is an ambassador for Best Buddies International via an appointment by Best Buddies International founder Anthony Kennedy Shriver.

“I am so honored [by this award],” Noltemeyer said. “I helped found Best Buddies Kentucky five years ago [and] I want to give back to an organization that has changed my life. I have learned to be a strong advocate for myself and others with disabilities, but most of all, I have made special friendships.

The Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award honors the commitment that the foundation’s Chairwoman, Betty Jane France, has demonstrated throughout her life to philanthropy and community service. The award is presented annually to a dedicated NASCAR fan that has made a profound impact on the lives of children in their community.

“Daniel says he is honored by winning the award; I want to emphasize that the feeling is mutual,” France said. “He is a remarkable young man, an inspiration to not only people with IDD, but everyone.

“Daniel was part of a very elite group of finalists this year, a group that NASCAR fans really responded to, as we had the closest voting in the award’s four years of existence.”

In addition to Noltemeyer, the list of finalists included:

Tammy Anderson-Lee, representing the Autism Society San Diego where she has developed adaptive swimming programs for children with Autism.

Amber Larkin of Windermere, Florida, founder of the Noah’s Light Foundation, which is involved in the fight against pediatric brain cancer.

Chris McElwee of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, founder of Michael’s Way, which provides financial assistance to families dealing with expenses resulting from children’s cancer.

2012-2013 Winner Erik Jones hopes to complete the "Hat Trick"
(Photo www.erikjonesracing.com)

Last year, then 17-year-old Erik Jones won his 'second-in-a-row' Snowball, an accomplishment only two other drivers, Augie Grill and Rich Bickle Jr. can claim.  This year, Jones, racing for Kyle Busch Motorsports in car #4, could be the first driver in Snowball history to win three in a row.

“The Snowball Derby is a very special race to me — that first win in 2012 is what really jump-started my career.” Jones stated. “To go back now for the third time and have the chance to become the first driver to win in three consecutive years is just unfathomable. I’ve been able to match some of the records that have been set by other legends in the short track world, but to break one would be the ultimate accomplishment.

Sunoco Rookie Awards

For the first time since the NASCAR Next initiative was created in 2011, three of its alumni captured the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Awards in NASCAR’s national series. Kyle Larson took home the honor in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Chase Elliott added the accolade to his resume in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Ben Kennedy earned the recognition competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

“The 2014 Sunoco Rookie of the Year class is a testament to the massive effort put towards developing our next generation of stars through the NASCAR Next initiative,” said Jill Gregory, NASCAR senior vice president of Industry Services. “We congratulate all three honorees and look forward to watching them accomplish great things in the future.”

The winner of last season’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award, Larson, 22, is only the sixth driver to also claim the honor in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He defeated runner-up Austin Dillon by 89 points behind eight top-five and 17 top-10 finishes. A graduate of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity (D4D) program, Larson placed second in three races and won a Coors Light Pole Award. He pilots the No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Elliott – 18 years, 11 months and 18 days – became the youngest and first rookie champion in NASCAR national series history when he captured the NASCAR Nationwide Series title. The No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet driver won three races and ended his season on a streak of 14 top-10 finishes. A native of Dawsonville, Georgia, Elliott will return to the series next season to defend his title. He finished 47 points ahead of second-place Ty Dillon in the final NNS Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award standings.

Kennedy, 22, was the highest rookie finisher in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series-best eight races. Kennedy tied Tyler Reddick atop the rookie standings, winning the tiebreaker thanks to a final championship points position of ninth. Kennedy drove his No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado to a career-best third-place finish at Martinsville in March.

“Sunoco has been a proud supporter of NASCAR’s rising stars through the Sunoco Rookie of the Year program for the past decade,” said Cynthia Archer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Sunoco. “This year’s award winners represent the youthful exuberance and competitive drive that define this award and we couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds as their careers advance.”

In light of "Giving Tuesday," Kyle Petty Expresses Appreciation

Kyle Petty 2014 Charity Ride raises $1.1M for Victory Junction

Last year 225 motorcyclists began their 20th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity RideAcross America in Carlsbad, California.

Race Analyst, and ex-NASCAR Racer Kyle Petty poises
with his motorcycle in Carlsbad, CA

Kyle Petty is grateful to the Carlsbad community for supporting the Ride and helping to make this adventure beneficial to so many children. With the welcome and assistance of local communities like Carlsbad,  the Charity Riders traveled 2,800 miles and raised $1,100,000.00 for Victory Junction, a camp created to enrich the lives of children with chronic illnesses.

This past spring, I set out on a 2,800-mile motorcycle ride with more than 225 other motorcyclists who helped me raise awareness and spread the word about Victory Junction. We had the pleasure of beginning our first ever, coast-to-coast adventure in the beautiful city of Carlsbad. Kyle Petty related.

The scenery was amazing, but it was the spirit of the community that really made Carlsbad a special place to kick off the 20th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America. The energy, sincerity and generosity of our fans and supporters certainly set a positive tone that lasted our entire trip. I want to say thank you to all of those who came out to see us off, for caring about our mission and for giving your time and resources to enrich children’s lives.

Bowling, zip lining or playing kickball are fun activities that may have once seemed impossible for some children to enjoy; but at Victory Junction, they create smiles on the faces of so many who may not smile often enough. The camp also allows their parents to cherish special memories that last long after they leave.

They have not announced the route yet for the 2015 Ride; however stay tuned to their Facebook for an announcement within the next few weeks!

Further, for information and updates on the 21st Anniversary Ride, taking place May 2 through May 8, 2015, follow the Charity Ride on Facebook and/or Twitter and/or Instagram.

Even though it costs more than $2,500 for one child to attend Victory Junction for a week, each individual is able to do so at no cost – thanks to the generous support Victory Junction receives through fundraising efforts, like the Kyle Petty Charity Ride. Petty reminded.

Team Owner Richard Childress considered the legendary NASCAR Driver a great personal friend. Dec. 1, 1963 - Wendell Scott Wins!

Name: Wendell Scott
Birth date: August 28, 1921
Hometown: Danville, VA
Died: December 23, 1990
Among all the trophies Wendell Scott won in his racing career, there is one that will forever be his legacy to the sport he loved.

It isn't much to look at, just some off-color wood with no plaque or varnish or glitzy, gimmicky metalwork. It pales in comparison to the gleaming, brightly polished trophies is sits among.

But that piece of wood, battered and beaten and sorry compared to the others, is the symbol of Scott's greatest day as a racing driver. It was Dec. 1, 1963, the day he won a NASCAR Grand National event in Jacksonville, Fla. Scott remains to this day the only black driver to have won a Grand National (now Sprint Cup) Series event in NASCAR's 58-year history.

During the 42 years since Scott earned his victory -- which, given the times and the area in which it occurred was not celebrated as victories always have been, in Victory Lane with a trophy queen and photographers -- no black driver has even been close to accomplishing the same feat.

Scott was a taxi driver who graduated to running moonshine and eventually to racing stock cars. For any of those jobs, one had to be a master mechanic and a pretty nifty driver. In 1959, at the age of 38, Scott won the Virginia State Sportsman championship. Two years later, Scott was able to field a car for the Grand National Series. In nearly 500 Grand National races, he was in the top 10 an amazing 147 times.

One of your facetious tasks is to plan your signature alcoholic beverage for the Christmas celebrations. Well relax, I have the perfect solution to that detail.

Did you know that Crown Royal has recently introduce a new Regal Apple Flavored Whiskey?

Crown Royal Regal Apple is a unique blend of hand-selected Crown Royal whiskies and Regal Gala apples resulting in the perfect balance of robust whiskey notes and crisp apple flavor. The apple extension is a great option for those fun-loving whisky drinkers looking for a high-quality flavored offering from a brand with a history of fine whisky making.

To maintain the essence of the Regal Gala apple, the apples start in a mixture of water and alcohol. The mixture is then distilled and specific selections are collected based on aroma. The aromatic fractions are blended to achieve the resulting apple flavor characteristics of the Regal Gala apple. The 70 proof (35% ABV) whisky opens with a slightly tart, crisp, apple flavor balanced with signature Crown Royal whisky with notes of caramel and light spice.

The blend creates the ideal balance of flavor and whisky, finishing on a crisp apple note with balanced sweetness, culminating in a full-bodied smooth finish.

The Pettys and Victory Junction
Persons of the Year

NASCAR Illustrated named the fine folks at Victory Junction, highlighting Richard and Kyle Petty, as their "Persons of the Year" for 2014.

Through pictures and stories from camp’s founders, counselors, campers and supporters, the magic of Victory Junction has been put into print in the NASCAR Illustrated December issue. What a special way to cherish and honor Adam Petty's inspired dream.

Victory Junction is a year-round camping facility for children with chronic medical conditions and/or serious illnesses. It is located in Randleman, North Carolina, USA. and was founded in honor of Kyles son, Adam*.

Last May, former NASCAR driver and racing analyst Kyle Petty; Kyle’s father, NASCAR Hall of Famer and seven-time champion, Richard; and Kyle’s best buddy, auto racing analyst and television personality, Rutledge Woods participated in the 20th Anniversary Ride Across America!

From May 3-10, 2014, they led more than 200 participants - including several celebrities- from Carlsbad, California to Daytona Beach, Florida to raise both awareness and funds for Victory Junction.

Rutledge Wood, NASCAR Race Mom, & Kyle Petty
Carlsbad, California - May 2014

NASCAR Race Mom was privileged to cover the Motorcycle Ride Kickoff in Carlsbad and had the opportunity to interview Kyle and Rutledge.

"What began as just a few friends having a good time riding track to track has turned into we have today, which is an incredible event that provides thousands of live changing experiences for children," Kyle Petty reported. "This is the first year we’ve traveled straight from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, and I’m looking forward to experiencing it with friends, while meeting our fans and generous supporters along the way."

Over 175 riders line-up for the 20th Anniversary
“Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America.”
During our interview, Kyle Petty’s personal “hands-on” approach to his Victory Junction activities emerged impressively. It is this characteristic of extraordinary levels of involvement and commitment which advances the success of this charitable undertaking.

NASCAR Race Mom is also very passionate about the Victory Junction Mission. Thank you NASCAR Illustrated for featuring the Petty family’s dedication and vision with your cover story, "10 Years of Healing and Hope."

* The camp was founded by Kyle and his wife, Pattie, to honor their son Adam. Adam Petty was killed on May 12, 2000, during practice for a NASCAR race at New Hampshire International Speedway. Adam was nineteen years old.
