The Portland 100, the eighth race of the 2022 ARCA Menards Series West season, is scheduled for Saturday, September 3 with a start time of 5:30 p.m. PT / 8:30 p.m. ET.
The race will be shown live on FloRacing. A live radio broadcast of the event can be heard on ARCARacing.com.
Jake Drew enters the race as the West Series championship leader as well as the most recent race winner at Portland following his victory at the track earlier this year in an event that was shortened by rain.
Darlington Raceway will welcome rising country music star Larry Fleet to perform the pre-race concert in advance of the 73rd running of the Cook Out Southern 500 NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race. The concert will be performed from the pre-race stage on the start-finish line in advance of the first race of the Cup Series Playoffs at the track Too Tough To Tame.
“Before the green flag waves to start the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, Larry Fleet will entertain with his original flavor of country music that our race fans are sure to enjoy,” said Kerry Tharp, Darlington Raceway President. “Larry Fleet is one of the rising stars of country music; I heard him perform earlier this year and he was outstanding. We look forward to welcoming him to a track that, just like him, is Too Tough To Tame.”
“I’ve been a NASCAR fan for a long time, but have never made it to a race in person,” said Larry Fleet. “Getting to perform at Darlington before my first race in person is something I’m really looking forward to and it’s going to be a great time.”
Blue-collar, Tennessee native Larry Fleet grew up with a love of music sparked by an eclectic mix of influences spanning Merle Haggard to Marvin Gaye. To make ends meet, he spent tireless hours working construction jobs – never losing sight of his dream to make music. A chance encounter with Jake Owen in 2017 led to a collaborative friendship and an opening slot on the road. Shortly thereafter, Fleet was sharing the stage with one of his heroes – Willie Nelson – and etching his mark in the Nashville songwriting community, co-writing with esteemed tunesmiths Rhett Akins, Brett James, and Kendell Marvel.
The hard-working family man is turning heads now with full-length album, Stack of Records (Big Loud Records), produced by Joey Moi, the follow up to his aptly titled first project, Workin’ Hard. Breakout hit “Where I Find God” – a powerful ode to finding peace in a higher power’s presence – is featured on the new set, garnering Fleet praise for his “emotive vocals” (Billboard) and amassing over 25 million official music video views. Fleet recently wrapped a run supporting Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous Tour and will embark on his debut headlining One For The Road Tour on Sept. 15 in Omaha, Neb.
This one’s an acoustic rendition of my song “Church Parking Lot” recorded from the Welcome to 1979 Studio. It’s a pretty nostalgic song for me and I think a lot of us that grew up in a small town can relate. https://t.co/10jV0cTtP2pic.twitter.com/HqV98gJCVk
A total of six women competed in the legendary one-mile paved oval in West Allis, Wisconsin. That’s tied for the most in a single event (2010) over the ARCA Menards Series’ storied history.

Saturday, the NASCAR Cup drivers will go all out to keep their championship hopes alive at the ‘World Center of Racing.’ The “Coke Zero Sugar 400” will be the last chance before the playoff’s round of sixteen. The Xfinity Series will compete at Daytona on Friday.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoff Race Entitlement
Richmond Raceway Worldwide Express (WWEX) have partnered on the entitlement of the summer NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoff race on Saturday, Aug. 13. The official name of the first-ever Camping World Truck Series Playoff race at America’s Premier Short Track will be the Worldwide Express 250 for Carrier Appreciation. As part of the entitlement, Worldwide Express will share their gratitude to their freight and parcel carrier partners.
“We welcome Worldwide Express for their first entitlement partnership in NASCAR with the Worldwide Express 250 for Carrier Appreciation NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoff race at Richmond Raceway,” said Lori Collier Waran, Richmond Raceway President. “As Worldwide Express continues to grow its presence in NASCAR as part of its 30th anniversary, we look forward to introducing their brand as part of the iconic fan experience at America’s Premier Short Track.”
“As we deepen our relationship with NASCAR and work toward further involvement in the sport, we are excited to put our name on the race in Richmond,” said Worldwide Express President Rob Rose. “Our CEO Tom Madine and I both have ties to Virginia and many of our carrier partners have their homebase in the region, so the entitlement just makes good sense for us. The logistics and supply chain world have been chaotic the past year and our business wouldn’t be possible without those carriers, so this is a unique opportunity to say thank you to them leading up to and during the race.”
Through its WWEX Racing program, Worldwide Express, along with its sister brands GlobalTranz and Unishippers, earlier this year announced a multi-year partnership with Trackhouse Racing as a primary sponsor on the No. 1 driven by Ross Chastain and No. 99 driven by Daniel Suarez. The brands also serve as the full-season, primary partner with Niece Motorsports on the No. 40 driven by Dean Thompson, the No. 41 driven by Ross Chastain for four Camping World Truck Series races and the No. 42 driven by Carson Hocevar in eight Camping World Truck Series races, which includes the Worldwide Express 250 for Carrier Appreciation at Richmond Raceway. For more information on WWEX Racing, visit www.wwexracing.com.
Let’s go racing! It’s #WWEX250 day and we couldn’t be more excited!

Fastest Car in Class with the Highest Safety Standards
Just like his name’s sake ***Moses (Smith) has spent forty years in his marathon journey refining his craft. His love for racing sprinted into action at age three, when he would accompany his father Paul to work in the garage of off-road racer Malcolm Vinje. This beginning of his racing education included the Vinje’s team win of the 1983 Baja International Class 5.
As soon as was allowed, Moses joined the San Diego Karting Association and competed in the go-karting circuit. As a youngster, he garnished moderate success. Nevertheless, from there, Moses has worked relentlessly to set himself apart from the rest.
After graduating from high school, in Escondido California, Moses tackled the task of mastering his art with a tenuousness forged in passion. Rather than relying on funds from friends and family, Moses took any and all employment he could find that could be considered sport related.
Moses' resume includes driving instructor (Jim Hall Racing Schools; Bob Bondurant School of High Performance; Skip Barber Racing School); Crew Chief for a Star Mazda Pro Team; Test Driver for Star Mountain Racing; Crew Chief for a USAC Midget Team; Fabricator for Stewart Racing Products; and Mechanic for Team Medlin.
The year 2002 was Moses' first full year in the Star Mazda arena. That year he amassed an impressive scorecard. In the thirteen races, Moses managed to take six pole positions, with five first-place finishes, four second-place finishes, two fourth-place finishes, and a fifth place.
Always looking to expand his knowledge base, Moses entered the NASCAR scene in 2006. Besides an impressive on track showing which included a third-place finish in the 2011 Season points standing; Moses was voted the K&N Pro Series West Most Popular Driver four years in a row. (2008-2011)
While keeping up with his full-time NASCAR race schedule, Moses morphed into the role of race car manufacturer for the original Formula Mazda FM rotary-powered race cars in September of 2009.
The FM is an open wheel race car which is adaptable to both oval tracks and road courses. Moses Smith Racing, LLC. (MSR) took over all support and manufacturing rights for the approximately 300 FM rotary-powered race cars in use across North America, as well as the MSR sports racer, a full-bodied version of the FM.
Moses’ facility houses racecar manufacturing and parts supply under the Formula Mazda Banner. Texas Autosports, is a full-service Formula Mazda Racecar prep shop located at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX. It is essentially the one-stop shop for Formula Mazda Racing, operating out of an 10,000 square foot facility at what is affectionately dubbed 'The Ranch'.
Not one to be satisfied with the status quo, during the pandemic, the driving suit came off as Moses transformed from the role of car manufacturer to race car research and development. Using all his years of experience and involvement in the different styles of race venues, Smith designed and constructed a vehicle that will be the fastest Formula Car in its Class! This new beauty is named the Formula Mazda FMzR.
Whether you are new to racing or a seasoned veteran, the FMzR will impress you.
“We rebuilt Formula Mazda from the ground up to create the best formula racecar,” Moses reported.
“The new FMzR is the fastest car in class with the highest safety standards, is easy to set up and affordable to race and maintain.”
Formula Mazda Car Specs
● Engine - 208 hp , 2.0 liter Mazda MzR, fuel injected with dry sump
● Data Acquisition - F1 style - AiM Formula Steering Wheel w/ Paddle Integration
● Safety - SFI 6 point safety harness, SFI fire extinguisher system (IndyCar standard), Safety Regulations involving driver fitment are easily accommodated for an extensive range of driver sizes
The FMzR will not be replacing the standard FM but will augment the class and bring it forward into the future. The production line has started, and the first five FMzR Car Builds should begin delivery in the coming months; with the first car batch to be delivered before the end of the year! Of the first batch of twenty-five FMzRs – twenty-one have been sold! (Current price is guaranteed through the first batch or December 31 2022.)

***This writer is aware that Mother’s Day is months away, however, this mom is going to take a moment to brag. As some of you know, NASCAR Race Mom has a son who races. However, a little-known fact is that my son Moses Smith (Racing) has been the manufacturer of an open wheel race car since 2009 and has now created the new Formula Mazda FMzR. It is the fastest car in class with the highest safety standards.

Carroll Shelby Foundation Raises $70,000+ To Help Kids Win The Race For Life
Donations by members of the international car club Team Shelby over the past four months have raised $72,830 for the Carroll Shelby Foundation.™ The funds will be used by the charity founded by icon Carroll Shelby to provide medical support for children with life-threatening disease and automotive educational opportunities for young people.
“While personally attending many of the Team Shelby events around the world, I'm always impressed with the generous, caring nature of the members,” said Aaron Shelby, co-President of the Carroll Shelby Foundation and grandson of Carroll Shelby. “In addition to raising money for the Carroll Shelby Foundation, club members typically donate their money, time, and energy to other local charities. During the 30th anniversary of the Carroll Shelby Foundation, Team Shelby members have certainly demonstrated their commitment to helping others while also enjoying their automotive hobby.”
Team Shelby was founded in 2008 by Carroll Shelby to give people an opportunity to enjoy their vehicles with fellow enthusiasts. The club is dedicated to serving all Shelby enthusiasts past and present. Ownership of a Shelby vehicle is not required, only a passion for the brand and lifestyle. With chapters worldwide, the factory-sanctioned club provides benefits including first news on all Shelby products and vehicles, an official membership kit, invitations to special events and discounts on Shelby products.
“From track days to parties, the annual Team Shelby Bash and fun experiences at locations like Le Mans, our spectacular activities also often support non-profit organizations,” said Tracey Smith, International Director of Team Shelby and Executive Vice President of Carroll Shelby International. “This philosophy tracks Carroll's way of life and I believe that he'd be very proud of Team Shelby members for continuing his legacy.”
The largest gift ($35,170) so far this year was made by the Team Shelby Northeast region, headed by volunteer director Bill Caron. He and his team produced the Team Shelby East Coast Grand Nationals in early June, which included track sessions at Pocono Raceway and other activities, as well as a parade to the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. Team Shelby hosted its own hospitality area and helped set a record for the most Shelby vehicles in one place, as well as an attendance record for any Carlisle event. In addition, Team Shelby had the largest number of people from any club at the annual event.
In mid-June, Team Shelby North Texas Director Brandi Kozlovsky's team produced the North Texas Team Shelby Weekend. The event included a car show, road rally, banquet, party, optional track day and more. That weekend, the club raised $27,660 for charity through live auctions, donations and silent auctions.
In April 2022, Team Shelby Houston Director David Peña and co-producer Dawn Allen managed an event in Texas. The three-day occasion featured a rally, car show, parties and other events. After the weekend, they sent a check for $10,000 to the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
“The money raised by these Team Shelby members and directors will help provide medical assistance for those in need, including children, along with educational opportunities for young people through automotive and other training programs,” said Aaron Shelby. “With these funds, we will be able to help even more kids win the race for life.”

The ongoing fight for the ARCA Menards Series championship couldn’t get any tighter after the 11th race of the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season Friday at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
When the checkered flag waved, it was Chandler Smith who bested Sammy Smith to earn his first ARCA Menards Series victory of the season during the Reese’s 200 at the 0.686-mile asphalt oval. The event was also part of the Sioux Chief Showdown schedule.
The ARCA Menards Series season continues next Saturday when the ARCA Menards Series travels to Michigan International Speedway for the Henry Ford Health 200. The race will be available live on MAVTV and FloRacing.
Michigan International Speedway Returns Acceleration Club to Turn 4
All-inclusive club moves back to popular location overlooking the race track

NASCAR Cup
Tyler Reddick Scores Overtime Victory
The NASCAR Cup Series has a new road course conqueror.
Tyler Reddick survived a wild overtime battle against Ross Chastain — who, as it turned out, was under penalty for finagling the first corner — to win Sunday’s Verizon 200 at the Brickyard.
Reddick’s NASCAR Cup Series victory at the 2.439-mile, 14-turn Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course was his second this month, the second of his career and his second at a road course.
“Well, we just know what we’re capable of, and we did that at Road America,” said Reddick, who led a race-high 38 laps on Sunday. “Certainly, (the announcement) was a little bump in the road, but we went out and won a race fair and square a couple weeks ago, and if we change nothing, we keep working really, really hard, we find a way back to Victory Lane.
“Just really glad to be able to do it here in Indianapolis. This is one really special place to race, and really excited to kiss the bricks here in a little bit and really excited we got (sponsor) 3CHI their win in their hometown.”
With his victory in Saturday’s Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard, the driver of the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet is the undisputed King of the Road.
Allmendinger was an irresistible force at the 2.439-mile, 14-turn Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. He led 42 of the 62 laps and overcame a fraught 25-second pit stop that dropped him from the lead to 13th for a restart on Lap 19.
The victory was Allmendinger’s third of the season — all on road courses — and his fourth win in the last five Xfinity Series races on circuits that turn right as well as left, dating to his triumph in last year’s fall event at the Charlotte Roval.
“I knew (Alex) Bowman was really good at the long runs, and so I tried to gap him as much as I could. God, I love Indy!”
“We gave up stage points a little bit there as well, to the guys we’re fighting for points,” Allmendinger said. “But you know what? Points don’t mean a damn thing — we’re kissing the bricks. Hell, yeah!”
Next Race: The Xfinity Series will return on Saturday, August 6 for the New Holland 250 at Michigan International Speedway.

Charging to the front on fresh tires after the TSport 200 went to overtime on Friday night, Enfinger passed Zane Smith for the lead on Lap 206 of 207 and went on to win the first event in the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoffs.
“We’ve just been off a little bit as an organization,” Enfinger said. “We’ve been working so hard because we’ve been sucking. It hurts to say it, but we’ve had a terrible season to this point. But we had a great Chevrolet all day. It felt like every time we got into the lead, a caution came out, and it put Hensley in a bad spot. I knew from experience to just trust his gut.”
Next Race: The Truck Series will return on Saturday, August 13 for the Worldwide Express 250 for Carrier Appreciation at Richmond Raceway.

Chandler Smith, Truck Series Star, Rules IRP
It was a battle of two Smiths on Friday night at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
When the checkered flag waved, it was Chandler Smith who bested Sammy Smith to earn his first ARCA Menards Series victory of the season during the Reese’s 200 at the 0.686-mile asphalt oval. The event was also part of the Sioux Chief Showdown schedule.
The triumph also marked Chandler Smith’s third-straight ARCA Menards Series victory at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park dating back to 2019.
“Track position was pretty big,” said Chandler Smith, who is also one of 10 Playoff drivers who will battle for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship starting Friday night at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. “You wouldn’t think short track racing (that) aero matters, but it really does. After you’ve done some mile-and-a-half races in Trucks you start coming back and picking up on this a little bit.”
Rossi won the Gallagher Grand Prix on Saturday on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course to snap a 49-race winless streak, earning his first victory since capturing the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race June 23, 2019 at Road America, 1,133 days ago. This was Rossi’s eighth career victory.
“It’s a relief, man,” Rossi said. “It’s been so many things for so long. Thankfully something came our way.”
Born in 1957 in Belgium, it was after a trip at the age of seven that my love for NASCAR caught hold of me! It was the 1964 World 600 in Charlotte. Since NASCAR it's my life! A large collection of objects and papers make up my personal little NASCAR museum.
Passionate about the history and statistics of NASCAR, I have contributed to numerous magazines and websites mainly in French language (Europe and Canada). One of my greatest pride is my full-time collaboration at racing-reference.info from 2003 to 2021.
