Hasa Toyota Team At Iowa Speedway

Moses Smith, pilot of the No. 16 Hasa Pool Products Toyota Camry was fastest on the track during the first practice of the day at Iowa Speedway. The team from Bill McAnally Racing was there for the twelfth NASCAR Camping World Series West race in the 2009 season. It was the series second visit to Iowa Speedway this year. The series was the companion event for the debut of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at the track in the heartland.

The second practice had the No. 16 Hasa Pool Products/White Flyer Toyota Camry mid-pack as the track conditions continued to change in the heat of the day and after additional rubber was laid down by the NCW Trucks. Smith qualified the No. 16 Hasa Toyota on the inside of row seven.

As the race began under the lights, Smith radioed in at lap 57 to his crew chief Mario Isola that the car was ‘tight off’ the corners. He also told his team at the break at lap 75 that the Hasa Toyota was ‘tight in the middle’. The team went to work making changes during the allotted time.

During a caution at lap 92, the No. 16 Hasa Pool Products Toyota returned to the pits. The team opened the hood as water was leaking from a radiator connector valve. It took some time to replace the connector causing the No. 16 Hasa Toyota to go laps down. Smith would finish in 26th.

“That was rough,” said Smith. “When the connector broke, one of the team members got a face full of water. That was a scary moment. Thank goodness the water was cold. We fought hard but there’s not much you can do with a mechanical failure. The team loves our home track in Roseville so I feel confident that we will do well there.”

The NASCAR Camping World Series West race, the Central Iowa Building & Construction Trades “125” will be televised on September 10th on SPEED TV at noon pacific time. Check your local listings. The season finale will be at All American Speedway in Roseville, California on September 26.
