Denny Hamlin Dominates for First Martinsville Win in a Decade

Denny Hamlin Dominates for First Martinsville Win in a Decade

It didn’t take Denny Hamlin long to find the recipe for success in Sunday’s Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway

Hamlin grabbed the lead on Lap 126 of 400 in the seventh NASCAR Cup Series race of the season and never looked back.

With flawless work from his pit crew, the driver of the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota led 274 of the last 275 laps — with the only exception a lap credited to polesitter Christopher Bell, who raced side-by-side with Hamlin after the final restart on Lap 326.

Hamlin pulled away toward the end of the final 75-lap green-flag run and beat Bell, his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, to the finish line by 4.617 seconds.

The victory was Hamlin’s sixth at the 0.526-mile short track, most among full-time active drivers, but his first at Martinsville since 2015. It was his first victory of the season and the 55th of his career, tying him with Rusty Wallace for 11th on the career victory list.

“You know, Chris Gayle, all the engineers, the pit crew, everybody really on that wall right there, just deciding they were going to come here with a different approach than what we’ve been over the last few years,” said Hamlin, who won at Martinsville for the first time with the Gen 7 race car.

“It was just amazing. The car was great. It did everything I needed it to do. Just so happy to win with Chris, get 55 … Obviously, back here in Martinsville where I spent so many years racing late models and whatnot — gosh, I love winning here.”

Austin Hill Wins Bizarre, Action-Filled #NASCAR Xfinity Race at Martinsville

Austin Hill Wins Bizarre, Action-Filled #NASCAR Xfinity Race at Martinsville

The speedway that robbed Austin Hill of a spot in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship 4 two years ago gave him a gift on Saturday.

Diving underneath a trio of wrecking cars in the final corner of overtime at Martinsville Speedway, Hill beat perennial bridesmaid Sheldon Creed to the finish line by 0.190 seconds to win Saturday’s US Marine Corps 250, giving Richard Childress his 100th win in the series and earning a $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus for the unlikely winner.

“I chose the bottom because of how rough everybody was on restarts,” Hill said of the overtime. “I had to do what I had to do on the last lap. On that restart, it just got wild. We were definitely leaning on each other, and getting into (Turn) 3, I knew we were all going to get beating and banging, and I just drove it in as deep as I could.

“They all hit each other, and I hit the 7 (Allgaier) a little bit and dumped him off and got on the apron there and came home with the win… Man, I’m in disbelief that we’re in Victory Lane right not. It’s unbelievable. I actually said at the end of the race that I hated this place because of all the beating and banging that was going on-and to top it off, we won a hundred grand!”

Daniel Hemric Claims First NASCAR Truck Series Win in Martinsville Shootout

During the week before Friday night’s Boys and Girls Club of the Blue Ridge 200 at Martinsville Speedway, Daniel Hemric practiced his back flip.

It was the signature move he had been able to use just once in NASCAR national series competition-when he won the 2021 season finale at Phoenix Raceway to clinch the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship.

But on Friday, the 34-year-old from Kannapolis, N.C., had a chance to perform the celebratory move once again, after capitalizing on the misfortunes of others-notably series leader Corey Heim-to win the first NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race of his career.

Hemric even stuck the landing, reveling in the race win that earned him a coveted grandfather clock trophy and a $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonus as the highest finishing series regular.

“It’s a funny thing, because my wife asked me a couple weeks ago if I was not too old to do it,” Hemric said of the back flip. “I practiced once last week in the back yard and did a back flip on solid ground.

“I thought, ‘The old man’s still got it,’ and I proved that tonight.”

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and Martinsville Speedway are teaming up for the triple-header spring race weekend at the famed short track, honoring the military branch’s 250th anniversary with the Marine Corps 250 Xfinity Series race today (Saturday, March 29).

2025 marks 250 years since the U.S. Marine Corps was founded back in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1775. For two and a half centuries, “The Few” have fought our nation’s battles and protected its future.

“It’s an incredible thing to honor the men and women of one of our longstanding military branches here at Martinsville Speedway,” said Clay Campbell, President of Martinsville Speedway. “The United States Marine Corps embodies toughness, resilience and fearlessness every day, inspiring us in all that we do. We hope to reflect those same values as we bring our NASCAR community together for this race weekend at our historic venue.”

The Marine Corps has gone through many changes since 1775, but the character of the individual Marine and the values they uphold have never changed. Every Marine, from the birth of the Corps through today, has been a model of honor, courage, and commitment.

“The Marine Corps has epitomized selfless service and sacrifice for our nation for 250 years,” said Maj Gen James W. Lukeman, USMC (Ret), President and CEO, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. “This milestone is an opportunity for Americans to come together and honor the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve. We are deeply grateful for the support of our partners in ensuring this anniversary is celebrated with the recognition it so profoundly deserves.”

Kyle Larson Surges Late at Homestead-Miami, Notches 30th Cup Series Win

Kyle Larson Surges Late at Homestead-Miami, Notches 30th Cup Series Win

Kyle Larson proved himself the weekend’s most dominant driver at Homestead-Miami Speedway, winning two of the three national series races, capping off the extraordinary three-day performance with his 30th NASCAR Cup Series victory in Sunday’s Straight Talk Wireless 400.

Larson seized upon a miscue by his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Alex Bowman, who put his pole-winning No. 48 Chevrolet in the outside retaining wall with six laps remaining Sunday. That contact allowed Larson’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to pass him for the race lead and jet off to a 1.205-second win — the 32-year-old Californian’s first Cup Series trophy of the year.

“I knew me coming towards those guys, they were going to start moving around and making mistakes, and I felt like if I could just keep pressure on Alex, he may make a mistake, and he caught the wall there, and I got around him easier than I expected to,” Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion, said. “Still had to work hard, though. My balance in clean air was really loose, just like those guys were. Hats off to the whole team.”

Justin Allgaier Earns Second Straight Xfinity Win

Justin Allgaier Earns Second Straight Xfinity Win

In one of the most dramatic finishes of the season, JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier took the lead on the final lap of overtime and held off his former teammate Sam Mayer for the Xfinity Series win — the ultimate “Dash 4 Cash” in the Hard Rock Bet 300 Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

For much of the day, it looked like 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson would answer his win in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Friday night. He led 132 of the 201 laps and held a 16-second advantage on the field when a caution flag flew with eight laps remaining, bunching up the field for that final overtime restart.

Larson chose the bottom lane for the restart, with second-place Mayer opting to pull his No. 41 Haas Factory Team Ford directly behind Larson’s No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet instead of on the front row alongside him. Just as the green flag flew for that final two laps, Mayer’s car hit the rear of Larson’s and knocked Larson’s Chevrolet out of shape

As that happened, the outside line of Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill and Allgaier zoomed forward with Hill taking the race lead. A lap later, Allgaier caught Hill and got around him for the victory — his first top five in 16 Homestead races and the second straight win for the reigning series champion

Hill finished third after Mayer passed him as well on the last lap.

“Just a testament to this team,” the 39-year-old Allgaier said. “Honestly, it was looking like it was one those days that wasn’t our day. We got behind but were able to persevere and to get this Chevrolet to Victory Lane is special.

“I just feel like this place has gotten me so many times.”

“I was actually bummed to see the caution flag come out but it worked out in my favor,” Allgaier added. “I’m bummed I maybe got the [weekend] triple from Kyle [Larson] because I think he’s going to have a great shot at [winning] it tomorrow. But we were at the right place at the right time and I’m really proud of this race team.”

Kyle Larson Pulls Unlikely Comeback Win

Kyle Larson Pulls Unlikely Comeback Win

Kyle Larson made a dramatic run to the checkered flag, rallying from a late-race spinout to methodically race back through the field and pass the night’s most dominant trucks in the final 10 laps to claim victory in Friday’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

It was a fittingly remarkable end to a typically competitive night in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Larson spun his No. 07 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet with 45 laps remaining in the 134-lapper and dropped out of the top 20. But the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion drove back through the field and moved forward, picking off one frontrunner after another.

“I wasn’t exactly sure if I could get back up there,” said Larson, who has four wins in only 16 series starts — two in his last four races. “I didn’t have the restart I wanted, took a little bit too long to start picking them off and then just got ripping the wall and it paid dividends for me in [Turns] 1 and 2.”

Larson acknowledged that Heim — who won two of the first three races this season — looked tough all race and was unquestionably the truck to beat. There was a problem with Heim’s motor in the closing laps — his truck suddenly started intermittently shutting off then restoring power in the closing 20 laps.

“Not sure what happened to the 11 [Heim], but that worked out in our favor for sure,” Larson said. “I don’t think I would have gotten to him [otherwise]. Obviously, I would have gotten to second, probably, but that would have been tough to get to him. That last run was a lot of fun.”

Max Reaves Prevails at Five Flags in His Debut ARCA Menards Series East Appearance

Another new driver in the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing produced a familiar, winning result in Saturday’s ARCA Menards Series East season opener at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.

Max Reaves enjoyed a near-flawless outing in his debut weekend with Gibbs’ esteemed ARCA Menards Series program. After posting the quickest times in both practice and qualifying, Reaves set a commanding pace for most of the Pensacola 150 to deliver Gibbs his fourth victory at Five Flags in the past five years.

Despite his dominance, a win was far from assured for Reaves. Facing challenges from drivers like Kole Raz and Connor Mosack while simultaneously dealing with copious lapped cars, Reaves stayed vigilant all evening and was ecstatic to see his composure pay off with a trip to Victory Lane.

“I’m speechless right now,” Reaves said. “I felt like Superman when I passed [Kole Raz for the lead] and passed lapped cars. It was awesome, and the car was awesome.”

Wyatt Miller Takes His First Limited Late Model Victory

NASCAR has a new member of the Earnhardt dynasty making a name for themselves after Wyatt Miller took his first Limited Late Model race victory at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Miller, 13, is the son of Kelley Earnhardt-Miller, the son of the great Dale Earnhardt and sister of his legendary son Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The Earnhardt family remains iconic in NASCAR, with Amazon Prime Video releasing a docuseries on the late Dale Sr. on Memorial Day Weekend, while Dale Jr. and Kelley could take their JR Motorsports team to the Cup Series after taking part in the Daytona 500.

But the family legacy now has a new name making waves on the tarmac after Miller took the checkered flag at the historic 0.363-mile oval known as the 'Birthplace of the NASCAR stars'.

Miller was making just his second start and started on pole. He led early on in the 40-lap race before Zach Bringer took the lead until his engine blew up on Lap 32.

Miller then took the lead and held off Aiden King on the final lap to come out on top in his No.73 car, sponsored by Bass Pro Shops.

"We had a really good car," Miller said in Victory Lane. "I was catching Zach, and then he blew up. I think Aiden tried to rattle my cage, but it didn't work."

Josh Berry Scores First Career Cup #Win at Las Vegas

Winning an intense battle against Daniel Suárez after a restart with 19 laps left, Josh Berry pulled away to a convincing victory in Sunday’s Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The win was Berry’s first in the NASCAR Cup Series at a track where he won twice in a NASCAR Xfinity Series car. Berry is the fourth straight Wood Brothers Racing driver to pick up his first Cup win in the No. 21 Ford.

“Oh, man, I don’t even know what to think,” Berry said after climbing from his car on the frontstretch. “Just awesome. I love this track. Las Vegas has been so good to me. So many great moments here.

“Just struggled in the Next Gen car here. But (crew chief) Miles (Stanley) and this whole 21 team, everybody at Wood Brothers Racing, they gave me a great car today. Just battled and battled and battled. Man, it was our day. I just can’t believe it.

“Such a battle with Daniel there at the end, beating and banging on a mile-and-a-half — crazy! Whoever was going to get out front was probably going to win. We were able to get in front.”

On Friday night, Justin Allgaier saw the Eagles in concert. On Saturday, he was flying.

Holding off Aric Almirola over a 102-lap green-flag run, Allgaier finally claimed victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after finishing second four times at the 1.5-mile track.

Allgaier’s victory in The LiUNA! was his first of the season, the 26th of his career and the 90th for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The reigning series champion crossed the finish line 1.067 seconds ahead of Almirola, who lost ground trying to run the outside lane with just over three laps left.v

With the victory, Allgaier qualified for the first Dash 4 Cash race next Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, along with third-place finisher Jesse Love, fourth-place Austin Hill and fifth-place Sam Mayer. The highest finisher among the four earns a $100,000 bonus.

“It was amazing,” said Allgaier. “This whole team — I just can’t say enough. Aric and I were going at it. Hats off to him; he ran a heck of a race…

Corey Heim Holds Off Grant Enfinger for #Win

Corey Heim made a mistake on pit road, but his crew picked up the slack when it counted.

A lightning-fast stop under caution on Lap 86 put Heim in the lead, and that was the impetus the driver of the No. 11 Tricon Garage Toyota needed to win Friday night’s Ecosave 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The stellar work of the pit crew allowed Heim to overcome a pit road speeding penalty he incurred at the end of the first stage on Lap 31.

“First of all, the pit crew did such a good job of getting the truck up front,” said Heim, who won his second race of the season, his first at LVMS and the 13th of his career. “I made that mistake in Stage 1 when I sped on pit road and put us behind.”

“This wasn’t exactly what we wanted in terms of the weather being cold and whatnot,” Heim said. “It seems to be a lot better when it’s hot and greasy, and we’re sliding around.

“I was doing everything I can there. I think all of us were completely wide open at the end. I spent a lot of time looking at my mirror, and it worked out.”
