Paul Menard

Richard Childress Racing, No. 27 Chevrolet

Meet #NASCAR Sprint Car Chase Driver Paul Menard

Outlook: Menard's consistency in top-15 finishes all season long paid off in clinching a Chase berth, but he might have something to worry about once he gets to Chicagoland with only one top 10 in the books in his eight starts at the track.

Chase history: This is Menard's first appearance.

Best Chase track: Kansas, with an average finish of 15.8.

Worst Chase track: Chicagoland, with an average finish of 23.9.

Meet #NASCAR Sprint Car Chase Driver Denny Hamlin

Gordon To Set #NASCAR Record

All-Time Consecutive Starts Leader

Jeff Gordon wins the Coca-Cola 600
(Gordon's first win May 29, 1994)

When Jeffrey Michael "Jeff" Gordon started his first NASCAR Sprint Cup (NSCS) race at the age of twenty in 1992, NASCAR Race Mom wonders if he had any idea of the success he would garnish. He started that race in Atlanta from the grid in the twenty-first position and crossed the finish-line in an unimpressive thirty-first. He crashed on lap 164 of the 328 lap competition.

However, in May 29, 1994, during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte the Gordon Legend emerged. In one of the more dramatic races of that season, Gordon won the pole, led the first lap and then led 15 more, including the event’s last nine, when he took the lead from Ricky Rudd and held on for the win.

When Jeff Gordon starts his engine this Sunday for the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, he will grab another lead from Rudd.  Gordon will surpass Ricky Rudd as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Consecutive Starts Leader by beginning his 789th straight race.

NASCAR’s new Iron Man has not missed a start since making his NSCS debut at Atlanta on Nov. 15, 1992 – a span of 22 years, 10 months and 12 days. What a testament to Gordon’s dedication to the sport and his superior work ethic!

NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee Rudd’s streak began on Jan. 11, 1981 and ended on Sept. 20, 2005. Over the stretch, he amassed a 23 wins, 194 top fives, 375 top 10s and 29 Coors Light Pole Awards.

While impressive, Rudd’s stats pale in comparison to Gordon who boasts four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships, 92 wins, 323 top fives, 467 top 10s and 80 Coors Light Pole Awards!

Congratulation Iron Man Jeff Gordon!

K&N Pro Series Top Three Separated by 14 Point.

NASCAR Next driver Austin Hill celebrates his second win of the season at
Richmond (Va.)International Raceway. Lawdermilk/Getty Images for NASCAR

There is only one race remaining in the NASCAR feeder series, the K&N Pro Series East. The series opener’s winner, NASCAR Next driver Austin Hill, celebrated his second win of the year a couple of days ago in the UNOH 100 at Richmond International Raceway+.

The starting grid had to be set by driver standings per NASCAR’s rulebook when rain brought qualifying to a halt. Therefore Austin started the race from third. Hill grabbed the lead after an early caution and held on until the skies opened up again and rain ended the race prematurely at Lap 70.

Going into the season finale on October 2nd, a mere fourteen points separate the top-three drivers. That should make for an exciting conclusion to the 2015 season.

William Byron (No. 9 Liberty University Chevrolet)

  • Is first in the standings after earning four wins, five top-five and ten top-10 finishes.
  • Recorded his victories at Greenville (South Carolina) Pickens Speedway (April 4, 2015), Iowa Speedway (May 16, 2015), Virginia’s Langley Speedway (May 20, 2015) and New Hampshire Motor Speedway (July 17, 2015).
  • At other national series oval tracks he’s finished second (Bristol), first and 13th (Iowa), first (New Hampshire).
  • Is a member of the 2015-16 NASCAR Next class.

Scott Heckert (No. 34 Project Lifesaver Chevrolet)

  • Is runner-up in the standings after tallying two wins, nine top-five and ten top-10 finishes.
  • Earned his two wins at North Carolina’s Bowman Gray Stadium and New York’s Watkins Glen International.

Austin Hill (No. 22 A&D Welding/Don Rich Ford)

  • Is ranked third in the standings after registering two win, five top-five and eleven top-10s.
  • Recorded his one win at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway at the season opener on February 15, 2015.
  • Is a member of the 2015-16 NASCAR Next class.

2015 NMPA Sprint Most Popular Driver Award Voting Opens September 6th

The National Motorsports Press Association and Sprint are pleased to announce that voting for the 2015 NMPA Sprint Most Popular Driver award will open Sunday, September 6.

The NMPA Sprint Most Popular Driver award is the only major NASCAR award determined solely by fan vote. The voting period will open at 12:01 a.m. ET Sunday and run through 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 22. Fans can visit www.mostpopulardriver.com to cast their vote for this year’s award. Votes will also be received via the NASCAR Mobile application.

Since the award’s inception in 1953, 19 drivers have won the award. NASCAR Hall of Famer Bill Elliott has won the award more than any other driver (16 times). Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won it the last 12 years in a row.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. "You look at Richard Petty and Bill Elliott and I've always felt that if you win this award once then you are in good company. I'm real proud of it. The fans have hung in there and gave me one heck of a Christmas gift."

Voting is limited to one vote per person per email address per day. Fans are encouraged to share their votes on Facebook and Twitter. The official Twitter hashtag for the NMPA Sprint Most Popular Driver Award is #SprintMPD.

Eligible drivers for the award are those who have declared to compete for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship.

“The Most Popular Driver Award is one of the NMPA’s most significant awards, and I’m very pleased to partner with Sprint again this year,” said NMPA President Brian Nelson. “We expect the 2015 vote to be one of the biggest yet.”

The winner of this year’s award will be announced during NBCSN’s broadcast of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards on Dec. 4 in Las Vegas. A $10,000 donation will be made to the winning driver’s charity of choice.

K&N Pro Series' Second Idaho’s Meridian Speedway Event

The K&N Pro Series first and only race at Meridian Speedway on held on June 30, 1972. Tonight, after a forty-three year hiatus, the Series  is scheduled to run the 'NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 208.'

These future stars of NASCAR will thunder onto the speedway with four competitors all but deadlocked at the front of the pack. Just twelve markers separate first place Chris Eggleston and his number 99 NAPA Filters, H2O Fire Protection Toyota from fourth place Gracin Raz’ number 27 Trinity Energy Ford.

Standing between Eggleston and Raz are most recent series winner Ryan Partridge and his Sunrise Ford, Eibach Springs number nine and the AlertID, Colliers International number seven Ford of Noah Gragson.

If tensions at the top of the K&N Pro Series West pack weren’t high enough consider that Gragson, Raz, and Partridge are embroiled in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year battle also. Gragson shows the way by two points over Raz and four over Partridge.

As an added excitement bonus; Saturday night’s action concludes with a fireworks display presented by Platinum Motors.

Meridian Race Setup:

  • The series has only held one event at Meridian Speedway on June 30, 1972. This will be the series’ second visit to the quarter-mile oval.
  • Ray Elder won both the pole and race at the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West’s inaugural visit to the track.
  • Chris Eggleston and Ryan Partridge are tied in championship points with 396 points. Rookie Jefferson Pitts Racing teammates, Noah Gragson and Gracin Raz, trail closely behind in third and fourth, respectively.
  • The K&N Pro West has only visited one other quarter-mile track this season: Idaho’s Stateline Speedway. James Bickford walked away with both the pole and the win.

History:

  • This will be the series second visit to Meridian.
  • The K&N West has only seen one winner at the Idaho track, Ray Elder in 1972.
  • The sole race at Meridian was won from the pole (Ray Elder, 1972).

Meridian Speedway Data:

  • Race: #11 of 13
  • Track Layout: Quarter-mile paved oval.
  • Race Length: 208 Laps (52 miles)

Fun Fact:

Ray Elder won the only K&N Pro Series 100-Lap Race in his Dodge, 50 minutes (30.000 mph), June 30, 1972.

Justin Wilson led by example. His integrity, modesty, and kindness were unmatched. As a family man, and as a competitor, none were held in greater esteem. The amount of passion Justin Wilson held for the sport of racing was only eclipsed by his dedication to his family. While we mourn the loss of a friend, idol, and mentor, we can carry on his legacy as a father by supporting the family that survived him. (http://justinwilson.co.uk/donate)
