Technology and the booming eSports industry is helping to fill the void created by the shutdown in sports over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The inaugural event had a combined total of 12.1 million minutes watched on “The Race” YouTube channel – that’s a combined total of 23 years of total content consumed. The massive fan engagement featured nearly 30,000 combined comments and millions of impressions on social media.

These events were created following the cancellation of the opening round of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship in Australia. Other major motorsports championships including the NASCAR, Formula E, IndyCar, and the World Endurance Championship have also been shut down due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

The second event one week later using the Indianapolis road course featured the racing return of Nico Hulkenberg following his F1 exit, and was won by another Esports big name in van Buren.

Rudy van Buren is back for more, along with his World’s Fastest Gamer successor James Baldwin.

The format will be the same as last week with three heats – two for real-world pro drivers and one for sim racers – before last-chance qualifier and a grand final featuring five Esports racers against the pros.

Arrow McLaren SP’s rising IndyCar star Patricio O’Ward and FIA Formula 3 racer Sophia Florsch are among the new additions for The Race All-Star Esports Battle 3, running alongside the brand new Legends Trophy event.

The grid is bustling with a strong list of real-life racers including Juan Pablo Montoya and his son Sebastian, Formula E points leader Antonio Felix da Costa and fellow series challenger Maximilian Gunther and the top real-life racer from the last race, Daniel Juncadella.

Latest Regarding #NASCAR Weekend at Atlanta
With the health and safety of fans, staff, competitors, race teams and media our top priority, NASCAR and Atlanta Motor Speedway postponed this weekend's race activities to a yet-to-be determined future date.

Ticketholders on file may use their March 13-15, 2020 tickets for the postponed event, choose to receive an event credit for the full amount paid plus an additional 20%, or choose to receive a full refund of their purchase price.

"This was a difficult decision to make for our sport, and we regret the uncertainty and inconvenience that has surrounded our race week. In light of these unprecedented circumstances that continue to change quickly, this postponement is a precautionary move that we feel is the best course of action. There is great collaboration within the industry to do what's best, and we ask for patience amongst our fans as we start the online process for ticket credits or refunds," said Atlanta Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Brandon Hutchison.  "We hope our fans support us in this decision and come back even stronger when we are back to racing at AMS."

The Exchange Form will be available for fans to complete beginning on Monday, March 16.

Atlanta Motor Speedway Adds Hand Washing Stations

Atlanta Motor Speedway Adds Hand Washing Stations

Update: NASCAR announced Thursday afternoon that fans will not be in attendance for this weekend’s activities at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which includes races for all three of NASCAR’s touring series.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is equipped to help fans race to good hygiene during the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

The Speedway is installing additional hand-washing stations in key places throughout the facility and will be distributing hand sanitizer to guests as they arrive for the weekend's slate of activities. High-traffic areas where things like hand-rails are often touched will also receive deep cleaning throughout the weekend.

AMS is closely monitoring facts and recommendations from public health officials regarding COVID-19. The CDC's current risk assessment says for the majority of people, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low, and that there is not widespread circulation in most communities in the United States.

To prevent the spread of cold, flu or COVID-19, experts are encouraging prevention, not panic, and asking people to practice good hygiene: frequent hand-washing, using hand sanitizer and covering sneezes and coughs.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is encouraging all attendees to follow these recommendations as they enjoy the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 weekend.

More information on the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway March 13-15 is available at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com.

Ford Performance wins at Phoenix Raceway with Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick coming in first and second. Logano drove the Team Penske Pennzoil Mustang to Team Penske’s 122nd NASCAR Cup Series race win while recording a milestone 200th win for the Ford FR9 engine, since it’s racing debut in 2009 with Ford Performance and Roush Yates Engines.

After several late-race cautions, it came down to an over-time, two-lap shootout between Ford Performance teammates, Logano and Harvick.

“Congratulations to Joey, Paul, Roger, and the No. 22 crew,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “Anytime a Ford wins is special, but today is even sweeter, winning our 200th with Ford Performance and the Ford FR9 engine. I’m so proud of our team at our shops, they put their hearts and souls into these engines. We are thankful to everyone at Ford Performance for their commitment and partnership as well as our Ford Performance racing teams."

After several late-race cautions, it came down to an over-time, two-lap shootout between Ford Performance teammates, Logano and Harvick. Logano, in the P1 position, lined up on the inside of Harvick. Logano had a great restart and was able to take the lead over Harvick and control the race, holding the No. 4 off, taking the white flag .276 seconds ahead of Harvick.

“We learned that this No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford team is just stout and is not going to get beat if we have the opportunity,” commented Logano in Victory Lane.

“We learned that this No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford team is just stout and is not going to get beat if we have the opportunity,” commented Logano in Victory Lane. “We tried everything we could to regain our track position and get control back of the race. I knew that last restart was going to be crazy. I have to thank my partners, Moneyline, Auto Trader, AAA, Ford, Coca Cola, Snap on, everybody that helps this program at Team Penske. Roush Yates motors {Engines}. It was cool to see two Fords on the front row at the end of a race like that. This is a motor racetrack as much as we don't think it is. Proud of the team effort today.”

The Ford teams led a combined 210 laps out of the 316-lap race. The Stage 2 winner, Brad Keselowski led for a total of 82 laps while the Stage 1 winner, Harvick led 67 laps. They were followed by race winner, Logano with 60 and Roush Fenway Racing’s Chris Buescher with one lap.

Five Ford Mustangs finished in the top-10, led by Logano, winning his 25th NASCAR Cup Series race, Harvick in P2 with Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Clint Bowyer in P5, Aric Almirola P8, and NASCAR Cup Series newcomer Cole Custer in P9.

Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC) is thrilled to announce that professional stock car racing will return to Utah in 2020 when the ARCA Menards Series West rolls into the Tooele Valley on Saturday, May 23, to headline the inaugural UMC Rock N’ Race Fest.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for the series, formerly known as NASCAR Winston West and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West prior to NASCAR acquiring ARCA in 2018, which raced here annually from 2007-14 and in 2016.

The race will headline the inaugural UMC Rock N’ Race Fest, which is planned to be an annual Memorial Day Weekend celebration going forward. The one-day show will also include the Fourth Annual Cruzer Palooza Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, a drifting exhibition and a concert featuring Jagertown, with local phenom Carver Louis as the opening act.

Fans will be able to purchase rental karting sessions and ride-alongs in drift cars. In addition, the new UMC Family Fun Center will be open, offering family-fun games like Archery Tag, Nerf Wars and Dodgeball. Food options will be plentiful, with both the Fast Track and Throttle cafes open for business as well as a variety of food trucks.

Admission to the Rock N’ Race Fest will be FREE, however there will be a parking fee of $10 per vehicle. There will be camping options available for those who would like to make it a full-weekend getaway.

“We could not be more pleased to welcome NASCAR-style racing back to UMC,” said Dixon Hunt, UMC Senior Vice President. “It’s been way too long since we heard the sound of those big V8 engines reverberating off our mountains, and we can’t wait to see the ARCA Menards Series West haulers rolling through our gate again. We appreciate the support of the series officials, and particularly the teams who pushed to bring the series back to Utah, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic inaugural UMC Rock N’ Race Fest!”

“We are very happy to bring the ARCA Menards Series West back to Utah for the inaugural UMC Rock N’ Race Fest,” said Brandon Thompson, NASCAR Touring Series Managing Director. “UMC has always been a favorite venue for our teams and drivers that has consistently provided great, competitive racing, and we’re excited to see more of that this May!”

Utah native Michael Self, who grew up racing here and was a six-time winner in the ARCA Menards West Series as well as a two-time and defending winner of the ARCA Racing Series’ Daytona 200, was excited to hear that the series is returning to his home track.

“It’s great to see the ARCA Menards Series West and stock car racing return to Utah and UMC,” said Self. “The track does such a great job of hosting not only the race teams, but the fans and sponsors as well. It’s always been a world-class venue. The ARCA Menards West Series is the premier development series for the national levels of NASCAR, so hopefully a lot of Utah race fans will show up to support some future stars of racing!”

The UMC race will be the fourth of 11 for the ARCA Menards Series West in 2020

The UMC race will be the fourth of 11 for the ARCA Menards Series West in 2020, and one of only two road courses on the schedule. It will be a one-day show, with practice, qualifying and a 70-lap race on the 3.05-mile Outer Course taking place on Saturday.

More details on the Inaugural UMC Rock N’ Race Fest will be released as they are finalized.

For a NASCAR nut like myself, the big show coming to town tops a trip to the Magic Kingdom of Disneyland. The only thing that could make it better is that NASCAR Race Mom (NRM) was bestowed a NASCAR VIP Experience by Stater Bros. (#staterbros) and Smithfield Racing.

My buddy Myrna (a NASCAR greenhorn) and I hit the California Freeway bright and early Sunday morning. I was pleasantly surprised when the traffic was fantastically scant, and we arrived at the track before 7:30 a.m. Arriving so early proved essential due to a few hiccups at the Will Call Window. Nevertheless, we still had time to explore the Fan Zone before our scheduled Garage/Pit Tour. There we were able to gather our free earplugs for the race.

Myrna and I met Lauren at Gate 30 at 9:10 a.m. sharp. Lauren was very NASCAR savvy and provided us with a tour both informative and entertaining.  During our garage promenade, we spotted Clint Bowyer (so friendly and greeting our group with jovial jabs); Regan Smith (he can be seen photo bombing us at the Smithfield Hauler); Cole Custer (breezed by me as I waited in line without acknowledging my greeting); Corey LaJoie (very handsome); and Ryan Blaney (a personal NASCAR RACE Mom Favorite) strolling briskly to this pit area.

Our tour included a stop at the Smithfield Racing hauler for a Meet and Greet with Aric Almirola; a tour of his hauler; and a stop at the #10 pit area. We were even allowed to climb atop the Pit Box to sit where the crew chief navagates the race.

However, the coup de grΓ’ce was this NASCAR Fan’s honor of greeting NASCAR Legend Leonard Wood as he sauntered past. Mr. Wood took the time to stop, turn and wave in response. What a great memory.

Busch Beer Block Party #NASCAR Race Car

We enjoyed the Chase Bryant concert in the comfort of the Busch Beer Block party. The generous hospitality area was centrally located and offered a wide variety of libation and cuisine. My sausage sandwich was delicious and really hit that spot. Since I was the designated driver, NRM stayed away from the alcoholic refreshment and opted for the bottled water.

The rain started right before the scheduled green flag. My partner and I doubted that the race would even start – let alone finish this day. However, we were mistaken.

After a fitting tribute where the race field lined up five-wide for one of NASCAR's GOATS, Jimmie Johnson, Alex Bowman dominated in Fontana, to secure his second NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series victory!

Our NASCAR Hero started sixth and finished eighth - a good top-ten day!

Thank you to Stater Bros. and Smithfield Racing for the very special “Smithfield Race to the Table Sweepstakes, sponsored by Stater Bros." NASCAR VIP Experience. It was a thrill.
