After some superspeedway action at the World Center of Racing, the NASCAR Xfinity Series will be heading to Darlington Raceway for the penultimate race in the regular season. Drivers will take on the Lady in Black for the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 on Saturday, September 2 at 3:30 p.m. ET on the USA Network, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Heading into the weekend, this will be the 67th NASCAR Xfinity Series race at “the track too tough to tame.” The previous 66 races have produced 36 different race winners and 32 different pole winners. Fifteen races have been won from the pole or first starting position, most recently by Denny Hamlin in 2017.

NASCAR Hall of Famer Mark Martin sits as the track’s winningest driver in the series, tallying eight wins (1993, 1994 sweep, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000 sweep). He’s also set the record for most poles (eight), top fives (14), top 10s (18) and laps led (972).

The track has also been memorable for some drivers as it has been a place of “firsts”. Justin Ashburn (2003), Denny Hamlin (2004) and John Jackson (2011) all got their first Xfinity Series starts at The Lady in Black while Kyle Busch (2004) and Ross Chastain (2018) each won their first poles here. There is yet to be a driver to post their first career Xfinity Series win at Darlington Raceway.

Saturday, September 2 will be a one stop shop for drivers. They will kick off their morning with practice at 10:35 a.m. ET, followed by qualifying at 11:05 a.m. ET on the NBC Sports App before gearing up for the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 later that afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Donnie Allison named Grand Marshal for NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Parade

Donnie Allison named Grand Marshal for NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Parade

The newly elected member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame leads this annual fan-favorite tradition that’s making its triumphant return on Friday, Sept. 1.

Darlington Raceway announced today that newly-elected NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Donnie Allison will be the Grand Marshal for the annual NASCAR Cup Series Hauler Parade as part of the Crown Royal presents Darlington Labor Day Race Weekend.

“Donnie Allison is a legend in our sport, and we’re honored to have him be a part of this great tradition,” said Darlington Raceway President Kerry Tharp. “His toughness and tenacity define the Too Tough to Tame spirit that embodies this race track and those who dare to challenge it each year.”

A member of NASCAR’s famed “Alabama Gang” and an ambassador for the sport for more than 50 years, Allison never planned to be a race car driver. But when Donnie’s older brother, Bobby, made the claim that Donnie could never be a driver, well, Donnie set out to prove him – and anyone else – wrong.

Like Bobby, Donnie got his start racing modifieds and worked his way to the top level of stock car racing. After winning the 1967 Cup Series Rookie of the Year, Allison partnered with famed mechanic Banjo Matthews where he experienced his most success. In 1970, Allison won three races for Matthews, including the Coca-Cola 600. The following weekend he finished fourth in the Indianapolis 500, setting a record for best-combined finish in the two-race crossover that still stands today.

But Allison might be best-known for his role in NASCAR’s most famous moment – his 1979 Daytona 500 fight with Cale Yarborough. An intense battle for the win ended with both drivers wrecked, scuffling in the infield. It all happened on the first nationally televised NASCAR race and made headlines across America. The publicity was instrumental to the growth of NASCAR and remains one of the defining moments in the sport’s history.

“The fans have been so supportive through the years, and I can’t wait to see them all along the parade route,” said Allison. “Darlington Raceway holds a special place in my heart and the history of our sport. I’m proud to be associated with it.”

The parade is Friday, Sept. 1, with the route beginning at Florence-Darlington Technical College and ending at the Track Too Tough to Tame. Beginning at 4 p.m., fans are invited to the Florence-Darlington Technical College staging area, where they can take photos with their favorite haulers while enjoying live music and food from local vendors.

Allison will participate in a fan Q&A at 5 p.m., followed by an autograph session from 5:15-5:45 p.m. The haulers will depart Florence-Darlington Technical College at 6:00 p.m. and make their way to historic Darlington Raceway where they will load into the Cale Yarborough NASCAR Cup Series Garage.

Racing action begins at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, with the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200. Then at 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 3, the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs begin in style with the Cook Out Southern 500, one of NASCAR’s crown jewel events.

Teammates Martin Truex Jr. & Denny Hamlin Vie for Regular Season Championship

Teammates Martin Truex Jr. & Denny Hamlin Vie for Regular Season Championship

Truex Jr Starts P13 tonight with Hamlin P19

Teammates Martin Truex Jr. & Denny Hamlin Vie for Regular Season Championship

It all comes down to unpredictable Daytona International Speedway to decide who will win this season’s NASCAR Cup Series Regular Season Championship. One thing is for certain, a Joe Gibbs Racing driver will be taking home the prestigious honor, trophy and fifteen (15) Playoff bonus points. The question is, ‘Which one?’

Currently, Martin Truex Jr. holds the NASCAR Cup Series’ point standings lead by 39 points over his teammate Denny Hamlin in second. Truex can clinch the Regular Season Championship, no matter what Hamlin does, if he scores 22 points tonight.

Seems not too difficult, and normally that might be the case, but this time Truex is facing some daunting obstacles. The first being the unpredictability of ‘superspeedway racing,’ and Truex has not won a superspeedway event in the NASCAR Cup Series in his career. At Daytona, Truex has made 36 starts posting three top fives and six top 10s. He has finished runner-up at the 2.5-mile track twice, the most recent coming in the 2018 DAYTONA 500, where finished runner-up to Denny Hamlin.

The second biggest obstacle to overcome this weekend is his teammate Denny Hamlin, who just so happens to be one of the best active drivers on superspeedways. He leads all drivers entered this weekend in wins at Daytona International Speedway with three victories (2016, 2019, 2020). In total, Hamlin has made 35 starts at Daytona putting up three wins, 11 top fives, and 12 top 10s.

Teammates Martin Truex Jr. & Denny Hamlin Vie for Regular Season Championship

If Truex (2017) wins the 2023 Regular Season Championship this weekend, he will join Kyle Busch (2018, 2019) as the only two drivers to win it multiple times.

If Hamlin takes the Regular Season Championship, he will become the sixth different driver in series history to win the prestigious honor; joining Kyle Busch (2018, 2019), Chase Elliott (2022), Kyle Larson (2021), Kevin Harvick (2020) and Martin Truex JR. (2017).

Austin Hill Looks for a Daytona Single Season Sweep

Austin Hill Looks for a Daytona Single Season Sweep

#21 #NASCAR Xfinity Car for Richard Childress Racing

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Hill will be coming back to Daytona International Speedway hoping for a single season sweep after winning the season opener in February (2023). The 29-year-old driver is all too familiar with finding Victory Lane at the iconic Daytona track, having also won the season opener in 2022.

Hill tried to sweep Daytona last season but after a wild race that saw three overtime restarts, Jeremy Clements ultimately took the checkered flag, while Hill finished in 14th.

The Winston, Georgia native, Hill, heads into the weekend with some momentum, having already accumulated four wins (Daytona, Las Vegas, Atlanta -1, Pocono), 13 top fives, 17 top 10s and has led 238 laps this season.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series started racing at Daytona twice a year in 2002. If Hill is able to win this weekend and accomplish the single season sweep, he will become just the second driver all-time to accomplish the feat, joining NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. (2003).

William Byron Wins Cup Series Race at Watkins Glen

William Byron Wins Cup Series Race at Watkins Glen

William Byron added to his season highlight reel, earning his first career NASCAR Cup Series road-course victory with a dominant win in Sunday’s Go Bowling at The Glen at historic Watkins Glen International.

It marks a career-best fifth victory of the season, tops in the NASCAR Cup Series and the most for him in a single season in a six-year career in NASCAR’s top series. And the 25-year-old Charlotte native had to earn this one — holding off another championship challenger, Denny Hamlin, by a healthy 2.632 seconds for the win. Byron led 66 of the 90 laps — extending his advantage over the field each lap of the final 10-lap run to the checkered flag.

“Yeah, I would have to think about that a little bit, though,” Byron said when asked if he felt like it was his most dominant race win. “But it definitely feels really good, just a huge credit to the race team behind me. I want to thank Max Papis. My first road-course win, and we worked years and years for this.

“Thanks to all the guys on the team. I did a lot of laps on iRacing this week, got a new simulator at home. It’s a great win. It shows when we’re at our best, we can perform like this.”

Sam Mayer outlasts field in OT, wins at Watkins Glen

Sam Mayer outlasts field in OT, wins at Watkins Gle

JR Motorsports driver Sam Mayer survived a full-contact afternoon at Watkins Glen International — contributing his own bump and run on the final restart to take the lead in overtime and hold off the field for his second career NASCAR Xfinity Series win Saturday in the Shriners Children‘s 200 at The Glen.

Mayer‘s No. 1 JRM Chevrolet tagged the back of the day‘s most dominant driver and then-race leader Ty Gibbs, spinning Gibbs‘ No. 19 Toyota, which then collected a handful of other lead pack cars. The 21-year-old Wisconsin native pulled away from the mayhem behind and raced off to a .909-second victory over Richard Childress Racing‘s Sheldon Creed.

“On that first one, I got used up, thought I had a good one there‘‘ Mayer said of the two overtime restarts. “All glory to God for this one because we had to work our tails off for it.

“I wheel-hopped it, that‘s unfortunate, and I feel bad for doing that. Obviously, you don‘t want to take out any car like that,‘‘ Mayer added. “Just trying to get another win in the Xfinity Series. I‘ve got a lot of catching up to do. I was in there, I put my nose in there, and that‘s part of it.

“That‘s an accident, but I think everyone can agree it‘s okay for an Xfinity Series regular to win this race.”

Jesse Love - The ARCA Series ‘General Tire 100 at The Glen at Watkins Glen International’

Jesse Love’s eighth victory in the 2023 ARCA Menards Series season was simultaneously his most unpredictable.

Love only had one lap to pass race leader Connor Zilisch as a light rain began to fall around Watkins Glen International with five laps remaining. As the two reached the final turn, Love nudged Zilisch out of the groove to narrowly steal the win in Friday’s General Tire 100 at the Glen.

“Hats off to Connor Zilisch,” Love said. “I hope he doesn’t think [the bump] was dirty. It was borderline, but I had to do something. He left the door open for me to do something when he got into the rumble strips.

“Brent Crews and Connor Zilisch are two of the best up-and-coming race car drivers in the country right now and they put that on full display today.”

With his victory, Love continues to make ARCA Menards Series history by becoming the 13th driver to win four races in a row. Should he win the next two races, Love will break the all-time record that currently stands at five consecutive victories between Tim Steele, Bruce Gould, Jack Bowsher and Harold Smith.

Sean Hingorani Dominates at Evergreen, Earns 4th West Series Win of 2023

Sean Hingorani Dominates at Evergreen, Earns 4th West Series Win of 2023

Despite entering the NAPA Auto Parts ARCA 150 at Washington’s Evergreen Speedway second in ARCA Menards Series West points behind rival Landen Lewis, Sean Hingorani had maintained confidence that he’s the favorite for the 2023 championship.

On Saturday night, the Venturini Motorsports driver proved why.

Hingorani at Evergreen picked up his fourth West Series win of the season, and he did so in dominating fashion. The 16-year-old from Newport Beach, California spent the first third of the 150-lap race on the 5/8-mile oval riding the back bumper of pole-sitter Tyler Reif before he made the pass for the lead on Lap 56.

Hingorani never looked back.

Brent Crews Ends Jesse Love’s Four-Race Win Streak, Earns First Victory at Springfield

A bump-and-run on Love shortly after the final restart of the day was all Crews needed to pull away from the field during the Dutch Boy 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and win in just his second ARCA Menards Series start.

Crews is no stranger to finding Victory Lane on a dirt track but took great pride in earning his first series victory at a historic facility like the Springfield Mile.

“This is the highest-caliber stuff I’ve ever done,” Crews said. “Being able to win [at Springfield] means a lot, but I want to give all glory to God. None of this would be possible without him, [my crew chief] Monon [Rahman] and everyone at Venturini Motorsports that puts their hands on this thing to make it fast.”

"I'm speechless. This is awesome," said Davenport, a five-time World 100 winner and three-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion. "I was just out there pacing myself, trying to keep the edges on the tires and do dirt-guys stuff.

"Man, this is an awesome experience. Thanks so much to SRX for giving me this opportunity and a chance to come out here and race with some of my heroes, legends and superstars. I'm just an ol' country boy from Georgia that runs dirt cars."

"It means a lot," Newman said of the championship. "Any kind of championship in any series and the Superstar Racing Experience, what can you say? Guys like TOny Stewart. Jonathan Davenport, who's won everything on dirt. Racing against Kenny Schrader, Kenny Wallace, it's just a whole lot of fun. Castroneves, an Indy Car champion and four-time winner. SRX Race at Eldora Speedway

No Surprise - Tony Stewart Wins in the Dirt #srx

Smoke (Tony Stewart) drove around Eldora Speedway like he owned the place during Thursday's SRX event at the Rossburg, Ohio dirt track. Oh wait - Stewart has owned the Big E (Eldora Speedway) since 2004.  Last night, he led all 75 laps of the main event to claim his first SRX win of the 2023 season.

With the win, Stewart is now a perfect two-for-two in SRX races at the track that he owns. The win was his fifth overall SRX victory and his fourth win at a dirt track. In addition to his two wins at Eldora, the three-time #NASCAR Cup Champion also has victories at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 and Knoxville Raceway. The only dirt track SRX race he hasn't won came last year at Sharon Speedway, where he finished second.

Stewart won both heat races to claim the pole for Thursday's race and dominated the main event before needing to hold off a hard-charging Hailie Deegan to claim the win. Deegan was in a back-up car after being involved in a six-car crash during the first heat race.

"Hailie Deegan is a hell of a dirt track racer,” TonyStewart

What was a bit of a surprise was the hard-charging drive delivered by second place finisher Hailie Deegan.

“That’s one thing people don’t realize, Hailie Deegan is a hell of a dirt track racer,” Stewart said. “If she gets to second, she’s going to put on pressure. I just had to try to get some clean laps on restarts, get in a rhythm and get going.”

Deegan was involved in a first heat crash when Austin Dillon, making his SRX debut, lost his radiator hose and slid straight into the outside wall.

“When it happened, I was immediately right behind him (Dillon),” Deegan told Frontstretch. “Nothing I could do in that situation. That’s the first time that’s happened to me, where someone’s blown up directly in front of me.”

Deegan finished the race in her backup car and received a huge standing ovation and tons of cheers from fans.

“Oh man, I don’t know what’s happened the last couple of weeks or what’s changed, but I feel a lot more confidence the last couple of months,” Deegan said with a broad smile on her face. “I feel like these last two or three races, it’s coming (together) and I’m starting to get those finishes, getting more speed and it’s all coming together.

“I’ve been working real hard the last couple of weeks and it’s really paying off.”

Owen Larson #Wins in the Restricted Box Stock

Owen Larson #Wins in the Restricted Box Stock Division

Knoxville Outlaw Kart Nationals English Creek Speedway

Iowa's Premier Outlaw Dirt Kart Race Track - English Creek Speedway is a 1/6-mile-high bank clay oval racetrack located 10 miles south of Knoxville on Hwy 14 then 3 miles west on G76.

Owen Larson, age eight, (Son of 2021 NASCAR Cup Champion Kyle Larson and his wife Katelyn) won in the Restricted Box Stock Division at the Knoxville Outlaw Kart Nationals! In 2004, Daddy Larson won in both the 250 and 500 open divisions, the year English Creek Speedway opened.

After Owen’s win in March of 2023, Kyle stated “I’m just proud of him. You talk to an eight-year-old and you never really know if he’s listening or not,” explained Larson. “But he did everything right in the feature, so he’s obviously listening to everything me and all of his buddies try to coach him around with.”

Huge congrats to Owen on his big-time win!
