#NASCAR Elite Visit Kansas City School!

As part of their national classroom donation program, more than 200 seventh graders at Kansas City's Argentine Middle School were treated to a lesson on NASCAR on Thursday, May 7 during a special visit from The NASCAR Foundation and NASCAR Acceleration Nation. Argentine Middle School and several other schools in the Kansas City area were the recipients of innovative technology resources donated by The NASCAR Foundation, including 3D printers, tablets and scientific calculators.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers Ben Kennedy, Scott Lagasse Jr. and John Hunter Nemechek joined Kansas Speedway President Pat Warren to talk to students about the 3D’s of Speed – drafting, downforce and drag, concepts covered in NASCAR Acceleration Nation curriculum the students received.

At Argentine Middle, the panel took questions from students related to the Scholastic curriculum and explained how principles of aerodynamics make their race cars go faster. Dion “Rocko” Williams, front tire carrier for Jeff Gordon's No. 24 Chevrolet SS team, served as the event's emcee.

As a reward for their participation by asking outstanding questions, the panel tossed hats from The NASCAR Foundation and t-shirts from NASCAR Acceleration Nation into the crowd of students – bundled with tickets for Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event, courtesy of Kansas Speedway!

It is The NASCAR Foundation's sincere hope that they can count on you to remain as one of thier financial supporters and help them continue these efforts. Please consider making a generous gift to support their work for fall 2015?

Will Johnson Record History Win at Dover? (#NASCAR)

The statistics show it’s no surprise who the best NASCAR driver is at Dover International Speedway by a wide margin.

Jimmie Johnson, who holds the all-time win record at Dover with nine victories, leads the Sprint Cup Series in driver rating (122.3), percentage of laps run in the top 15 (88.2%) and average running position (6.454).

The six-time series champion also has a series best average finish of 8.2 in 26 starts at the 1-mile oval. Johnson’s average start of 9.9 trails only Kyle Larson (6.0 in two starts) and Ryan Newman (9.7 in 26 starts).

Former Dover winners Matt Kenseth (108.3) and Kyle Busch (105.5) are the only other drivers with ratings above 100.

Last spring, Johnson was dominant at Dover, leading 274 laps to claim his second straight victory at the track. Brad Keselowski finished second, followed by Kenseth, Clint Bowyer, and Hamlin.

The defending spring race winner at the Monster Mile, Johnson seeks to become just the fifth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver with 10 or more wins at a single track. He will be at a disadvantage after being penalized Wednesday for receiving written warnings in two consecutive events. As a result, Johnson, along with Justin Allgaier will receive the last two choices in the pit selection process, respective to qualifying results.

This weekend’s Xfinity race at Dover International Speedway will reward a driver with a $100,000 bonus as part of Xfinity’s Dash 4 Cash program. (#Dash4Cash)

Ty Dillon, Regan Smith, Daniel Suarez and Darrell Wallace Jr. qualified for the bonus at Dover by being the four highest-finishing drivers who score points in the Xfinity series last weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Dash 4 Cash program pays $100,000 to the highest-finishing eligible driver in four races: Dover (Saturday), Indianapolis (July 25), Bristol (Aug. 21) and Darlington (Sept. 5).

If a driver wins each of the first three Dash 4 Cash events and then wins the final race outright at Darlington, they’ll increase their winnings by $600,000 to make their total winnings $1 million.

Dillon has three top-10 finishes in four career series starts at Dover. Smith has three top-10 finishes in his last four starts there. Wallace finished 12th in his only previous Xfinity run at Dover, and Suarez will make his first series start at the track.

Orange = No wins, Inside the current Chase Grid's top 16 - Currently in the Chase, not locked in

Red = Inside the current top 30 in points, outside of the Chase cutoff

Case Format Summary:

#Win $100,000 Dollar in the #NASCAR Dash for Cash

This year's Dash 4 Cash includes races May 23 at Dover, July 25 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, August. 21 at Bristol Motor Speedway and September 5 at Darlington Raceway.

Hisense 300 (2:30 p.m. ET, FOX, PRN, Sirius XM) at Charlotte Motor Speedway marks the first step in the 2015 Dash 4 Cash.

The qualifier race is new to Charlotte, as is the finale at Darlington -- last year's finale at Iowa was won by Trevor Bayne -- and the inclusion of Dover and Bristol is also a change. Plus, the schedule is more spread out than usual, allowing Bristol and Darlington to get into the mix.

Sixth Annual ‘Goodyear Gives Back’ #nascar

Campaign Rallies NASCAR Fans in Support of Troops

For the sixth straight year, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, exclusive tire supplier of NASCAR’s three major national series, is rallying NASCAR fans to support members of the U.S. Armed Forces through its “Goodyear Gives Back” charitable program benefiting the Support Our Troops® organization.

To kick off the program, Goodyear will once again transform its NASCAR race tires by replacing the “Eagle” sidewall design with “Support Our Troops” messaging on all tires used during Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This effort coincides with the launch of Goodyear’s charity auction at www.Goodyear.com/GivesBack, which features autographed NASCAR memorabilia, VIP race experiences and rides on the Goodyear Blimp.

Proceeds benefit Support Our Troops®, a nonprofit nationwide organization that works to bolster the morale and well-being of America’s troops and their families. To-date, Goodyear Gives Back has generated nearly $1 million in cash and product donations to support the cause.

“For the past six years, the Goodyear Gives Back program has helped us bring race fans and the NASCAR community together in showing support for troops and their families,” said Kris Kienzl, Goodyear’s NASCAR marketing manager. “The response has been overwhelming. More than 40 NASCAR teams, sponsors and tracks have joined this year’s effort by providing items for our charity auction and spreading the word among fans.”

Fans can get involved by visiting www.Goodyear.com/GivesBack through July 6, 2015 to bid on unique NASCAR autographed items, Support Our Troops tires and VIP experiences, purchase Support Our Troops® merchandise, or make a direct donation.

“The Goodyear Gives Back program has played a critical role in raising awareness and funds to better the lives of service men and women and their families,” said Martin C. Boire, executive director of Support Our Troops. “It’s a great symbol of support for those who sacrifice so much for our freedom.”

This year’s program is also a cornerstone of the “NASCAR: An American Salute” initiative, which highlights the sport’s ongoing support of the U.S. Armed Forces and veterans.

“The Goodyear Gives Back program continues to be one of the most visible symbols of military support during the Memorial Day race weekend,” said NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton. “We hope the combined efforts of Goodyear and NASCAR will encourage fans to show their support for the men and women who serve or have served our nation.”

Goodyear has more than 100 years of history building innovative tires and equipment to help support and protect our troops and is the largest producer of military tires in the U.S. The company has also been recognized as a top 100 Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs magazine for its leadership in hiring and supporting veterans. In 2014, Goodyear surpassed a three-year goal of hiring 1,000 veterans and committed to hiring an additional 1,000 veterans in 2015.

2016 NASCAR Hall Of Fame Class Announced

Cook, Isaac, Labonte, Smith, Turner Comprise Hall’s Seventh Class

NASCAR announced today the inductees who will comprise the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2016. The five-person group – the seventh in NASCAR Hall of Fame history – consists of Jerry Cook, Bobby Isaac, Terry Labonte, O. Bruton Smith and Curtis Turner. In addition, NASCAR announced that Harold Brasington won the Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR. Next year’s Induction Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, broadcast on NBCSN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, live from Charlotte, N.C.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel met today in a closed session in Charlotte to debate and vote upon the 20 nominees for the induction class of 2016 and the five nominees for the Landmark Award.

NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France and NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton announced the class and Landmark Award winner, respectively, this evening in the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s “Great Hall.”

The Class of 2016 was determined by votes cast by the Voting Panel, including representatives from NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, track owners from major facilities and historic short tracks, media members, manufacturer representatives, retired competitors (drivers, owners, crew chiefs), recognized industry leaders, a nationwide fan vote conducted through NASCAR.com and, for the second year, the reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion (Kevin Harvick). In all, 57 votes were cast, with two additional Voting Panel members recused from voting as potential nominees for induction (Jerry Cook and Robert Yates). The accounting firm of Ernst & Young presided over the tabulation of the votes.

Voting was as follows:
  1. O. Bruton Smith (68%),
  2. Terry Labonte (61%),
  3. Curtis Turner (60%),
  4. Jerry Cook (47%)
  5. Bobby Isaac (44%).

The next top vote-getters were Red Byron, Benny Parsons and Rick Hendrick.

Results for the NASCAR.com Fan Vote, in alphabetical order, were Buddy Baker, Alan Kulwicki, Terry Labonte, Mark Martin and Benny Parsons.

The five inductees came from a group of 20 nominees that included, in addition to the five inductees chosen: Buddy Baker, Red Byron, Richard Childress, Ray Evernham, Ray Fox, Rick Hendrick, Harry Hyde, Alan Kulwicki, Mark Martin, Hershel McGriff, Raymond Parks, Benny Parsons, Larry Phillips, Mike Stefanik and Robert Yates.

Nominees for the Landmark Award included Brasington, H.Clay Earles, Raymond Parks, Ralph Seagraves and Ken Squier. It is awarded to competitors or those working in the sport who have acted as a NASCAR ambassador through a professional or non-professional role. Anne B. France won the inaugural award last year.

Class of 2016 Inductees:

Jerry Cook

Jerry Cook made his name in modifieds, winning six NASCAR Modified championships, including four consecutively from 1974-77. All the while, he was vying with another driver from his hometown of Rome, New York, nine-time champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer Richie Evans, for supremacy in NASCAR’s open-wheel realm. After retiring from racing in 1982, Cook stayed with the sport and helped shape the series known today as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Cook served as the series’ director when it began in 1985 and remains with NASCAR as competition administrator.

Bobby Isaac

Bobby Isaac’s uncanny skill at drawing speed from a race car puts him on a short list of NASCAR legends. His 49 career poles ranks 10th all time. Maybe more impressive: Isaac captured 19 poles in 1969, which still stands as the record for poles in a single season. Isaac began racing in NASCAR’s premier series in 1961. He finished runner-up in the series standings in 1968 behind NASCAR Hall of Famer David Pearson. In 1969, he finished sixth in the standings after posting 17 wins and those 19 poles. In 1970, Isaac won the championship posting 11 victories, 32 top fives and 38 top 10s in 47 starts. Isaac won 37 races in NASCAR's top series, ranking 19th on the all-time list.

Terry Labonte

Terry Labonte is a two-nickname NASCAR star. Early in his career he was known as the “Iceman” for his coolness under pressure. But his demeanor belied his determination. Later in his career he became known as the sport’s “Iron Man” thanks to 665 consecutive starts in NASCAR’s premier series, a record which stood until 2002. Winning two premier series championships, in 1984 and ’96, is impressive; the 12-year gap distinguishes Labonte further. No other driver has won his first two championships that far apart and Labonte is one of only six drivers with championships in two decades. Labonte’s stellar career is tucked between perfect bookends – his two Southern 500 wins, in 1980 and 2003. His 361 top-10 finishes ranks 10th all time.

O. Bruton Smith

O. Bruton Smith, executive chairman of Speedway Motorsports Inc., promoted his first stock car race in Midland, North Carolina at the age of 18. Smith’s early endeavors included operating the National Stock Car Racing Association – seen as an early competitor to NASCAR – and building Charlotte Motor Speedway. CMS became the foundation of Speedway Motorsports Inc., which currently owns eight NASCAR tracks hosting 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and additional high-profile motorsports activities. Smith took SMI public in 1995, the first motorsports company to be traded at the New York Stock Exchange. He was inducted into the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame and National Motorsports Press Association’s Hall of Fame, both in 2006; and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2007.

Curtis Turner

Called by some the “Babe Ruth of stock car racing,” Curtis Turner was among the fastest and most colorful competitors in the early years of NASCAR premier series racing. Turner competed in NASCAR’s first “Strictly Stock” race in 1949 in Charlotte and was the only driver to win a NASCAR premier series race in a Nash. He posted his first of 17 career victories in only his fourth start on Sept. 11, 1949, at Langhorne (Pennsylvania) Speedway. Although many of Turner’s victories came on short tracks and dirt ovals – much of his career pre-dated NASCAR’s superspeedway era – he won the 1956 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway and the first American 500 at Rockingham Speedway in 1965. He remains the only series driver to win two consecutive races from the pole leading every lap. He also won 38 of 79 races in which he competed in the NASCAR Convertible Division.

Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR:

Harold Brasington

Harold Brasington, a South Carolina businessman, believed in Bill France’s fledgling NASCAR business, created the sanctioning body’s first superspeedway – a one-of-a-kind egg-shaped oval, paved on an old cotton and peanut field. Expecting 10,000 fans to show up at Darlington Raceway’s first competition on Labor Day of 1950, 25,000 spectators showed up for the inaugural Southern 500 – NASCAR’s first 500-mile race. Darlington's success inspired Brasington to extend his reach north -- to North Carolina. He employed his track building and promoting expertise, helping in the creation of Charlotte Motor Speedway and building North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham, North Carolina.

NASCAR Diversity Internship Program Welcomes 2015 Class

Top College Students to Gain Valuable Experience Working Across Motorsports Industry; Begin 10-week Summer Program at NASCAR Sprint All-Star Weekend

Some of NASCAR’s future leaders may emerge from the 2015 NASCAR Diversity Internship Program (NDIP) class, which begins a 10-week summer session this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

According to a NASCAR media release, the interns, who attend universities ranging from Minnesota to Puerto Rico, “will take part in the 10-week, paid program, created to expose multicultural college students to employment opportunities within America’s number one motorsport.”

The interns will receive a wide-ranging exposure to the sport in areas including engineering, finance, marketing, license and public relations.

Among NASCAR-related groups that will be hosting interns are several NASCAR divisions; Hendrick Motorsports, Rev Racing (which oversees NASCAR’s Drive For Diversity program) and Pocono Raceway.

“Since 2000, the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program has grown to become one of the premier internships in sports,” said Jim Cassidy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. “For NASCAR, the program is an important part of our efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace.”

Nearly 300 students have taken part in the program since its debut 15 years ago. Several have gone on to full-time jobs in motorsports, including NASCAR, International Speedway Corporation, Octagon and Toyota.

One past intern is Pedro Mojica, who was part of the 2014 Class. After graduating from the University of Texas – San Antonio, Mojica accepted an engineer position for Toyota Racing Development.

“As an intern, I had the opportunity to become immersed in the world of NASCAR – a sport I was passionate about,” said Mojica, who also participated in the NASCAR Mentorship Program. “The NASCAR Diversity Internship Program provided me with a platform to launch my career in motorsports.”

Among “NASCAR 101” activities the 2015 class will take part in this weekend include guided tours of the NASCAR Research & Development Center, NASCAR Hall of Fame and Charlotte Motor Speedway before attending Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race.

Here’s the 2015 class lineup:

Crown Royal 'Your Hero's Name Here' Finalists Named

Vote through June 7 to name Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Since NASCAR began running the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1994, a select group of race winners including Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson have been brave enough to face the challenge and made their mark as kings of the historic track. This year, another name will join their ranks without ever finishing a lap... but don't think for a second this person isn't well versed in bravery.

As the grand prize winner of Crown Royal's annual "Your Hero's Name Here" program, a deserving hero's name will be etched in history with naming rights to the NASCAR race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 26, 2015.  This race will mark the ninth time Crown Royal has awarded race naming rights to an adult fan. The program focuses on all of the unsung heroes who make a difference in their communities, from firefighters and police officers to first responders and local volunteers. Every year five heroic finalists are nominated and through consumer voting, one winner is chosen to have their name cemented in sports history.

Beginning this week, adult consumers can go to CrownRoyalHeroes.com to vote for the hero they think is most deserving of naming rights to the race. Voting runs through June 7 and the grand prize winner will be announced early that month. See below for their names and bios or click here to read.

All five finalists will be flown to Indianapolis to attend the race, and the grand prize winner will be provided with a once-in-a-lifetime experience, which will include delivering the trophy bearing his or her moniker to the race winner in Victory Lane!

Jeff Kyle -- Retired U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant

Jeff Kyle -- Retired U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant
Jeff Kyle, 37, of Lorena, Texas is a retired U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant who served for eight years from 2000-2008 in the infantry and reserves. While serving with the 3rd Marine Division, Kyle received the Navy Achievement Medal for leading the first Marine detachment to transport a nuclear submarine through hostile waters. During his time in the military, Kyle was deployed to Iraq twice, Africa and several other locations overseas. When Kyle retired from the Marine Corps in 2008 he says, "My military career didn't start until I left because now I am able to truly serve my country through helping my fellow brothers." As one of the founders of Texas Elite Tactical Academy, Kyle trains individuals about firearms safety through his passion to educate those in a safe environment. As a board member for the Guardian For Heroes Foundation, Kyle helps to oversee the organization's mission -- to provide free, in-home fitness equipment, facilitation of donated health club memberships, individualized programs, personal training, as well as life coaching and comprehensive support to in-need veterans with disabilities. In addition, Kyle plays a large role as a board member of American Valor, the foundation which runs the memorial benefit to honor his brother, CPO and U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Nominated by the person he considers one of his heroes, former 2014 "Your Hero's Name Here" race namesake John Wayne Walding, Kyle continues to dedicate his efforts to champion for military veterans and their families.

Margy Bons -- Community Leader

Margy Bons -- Community Leader
Margy Bons, 59, of Phoenix, Ariz. is the CEO and Founder of the Military Assistance Mission (MAM). In 2005, her oldest son Michael was serving his country in Iraq when he was killed in an ambush by a suicide borne vehicle filled with IEDs. In an effort to honor her son and continue what he started, Bons created an organization with a name that contains Michael's initials. Formed in 2012, MAM's mission is to provide financial and moral aid to Arizona service members, wounded warriors and their families. MAM offers a number of programs to meet their needs including paying for items like rent, utilities and car payments and offering classes on resume writing. Last year alone the organization was able to help over 7,000 Arizona families. "There are so many true heroes out there. I get to support them every day, so I am very honored and humbled to be considered a hero," said Bons. When Bons is not working at her organization, she can be found riding her motorcycle or enjoying her newfound hobby of target shooting.

Brendan Marrocco -- Retired Army Sergeant

Brendan Marrocco -- Retired Army Sergeant
Brendan Marrocco, 28, of Staten Island, N.Y. is a retired Army Sergeant who was deployed in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, Marrocco's vehicle was hit with an Explosive Fired Projectile (EFP). This attack left Marrocco a quadruple amputee and the first ever U.S. soldier to survive such injuries sustained in the war. He credits his lieutenant and medic for his survival and looks up to them as his personal heroes. A determined individual, Marrocco set a goal for himself to greet his fellow soldiers returning from Iraq just four months after his injury. "It was a huge goal for me and it was an once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will cherish forever," said Marrocco. In December 2012, Marrocco underwent transplant surgery and was the first bilateral arm transplant recipient at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Since the surgery, he continues to receive intensive arm therapy at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. An avid race fan and car enthusiast, Marrocco went to the Daytona, Bristol, Richmond and Dover races last year and would have gone to more if not for touring Afghanistan for Operation Proper Exit. Marrocco has yet to attend the "Your Hero's Name Here" 400 in Indianapolis and is excited for the opportunity to take the trip in July and see his favorite driver and friend, Brad Keselowski.

Hector Manley -- Community Leader

Hector Manley -- Community Leader
Hector Manley, 26, of Bonita Springs, Fla. lost both legs at age 11 in a tragic accident when a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck his birth country, El Salvador in 2001. Soon after, Manley was adopted and brought to the United States where he has flourished as a community leader, volunteer and teacher. In 2012, Manley became the first double amputee to kayak the entire length of the Mississippi River. This summer adventure took Manley 93 days and, through a partnership with Rotary Clubs, he was able to raise $70,000 dollars for the Wheelchair Foundation. As a result, in 2013 he and a group of others were able to distribute over 450 wheelchairs to people in need in El Salvador and Honduras. Manley continues to raise money for charities through events including Tough Mudder races. "If I could describe myself in one word it would be driven. I look at the challenges in front of me and put a plan in place so that nothing seems impossible," said Manley. Introduced to NASCAR at age 13, Manley has been a fan ever since and a follower of his favorite driver, Tony Stewart.

Benjamin Parker -- Retired Army Staff Sergeant

Benjamin Parker -- Retired Army Staff Sergeant
Benjamin Parker, 28, of Cincinnati, Ohio is a retired Army Staff Sergeant who was deployed to Afghanistan twice as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team Leader. Safely disarming more than 300 IEDs and saving countless lives during his tours of duty, Parker received two bronze stars for his bravery. "I don't consider what I did heroic. I was just doing my job," said Parker.  "I am deeply honored and humbled to be a finalist." After his second tour, Parker returned home and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Devastated to have to end his army career, Parker decided to pursue another passion. Against all odds, he received his pilot's license and now works as an aircraft mechanic. Born in Indianapolis, Parker is an avid NASCAR fan who used to set alarms and call his dad from a satellite phone overseas so they could watch races together. Parker looks forward to returning to the "Your Hero's Name Here" 400 as a finalist to watch his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Come Out To Meet The #KPCHARITYRIDE Riders And Support Victory Junction

Saturday this #NASCAR fan packed up and traveled the four hours of freeways to Bakersfield. Bakersfield, California is hometown to the 2014 reigning Sprint Cup Champion, Kevin Harvick. The ninth largest city in California, it is located near the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley in Kern County.

However, what brought this enthusiast to “California's Country Music Capital" was the end of Day One of the “Annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride.” Their efforts raise funds and awareness for Victory Junction – a camp created to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

The KPCR route for this seven-day motorcycle trek, taking place May 2nd through 8th, bonds approximately two hundred motorcyclists along the 2,500 mile journey. This year’s route stretches from Santa Cruz, California to Branson, Missouri.

The route ends in Branson this year because that was as far as Don Tilley progressed in planning this jaunt before his unexpected death.

Tilley was a legend in racing and Harley-Davidson circles. He had led all the previous twenty Kyle Petty’s “Charity Ride Across America” events. He died in August of 2014, when he lost control of his motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway, in North Carolina. Don was seventy-eight years young.

While the Charity Riders miss and mourn the loss of one of their leaders, they take pride in honoring him by finalizing the last route he drafted.

The 21st Charity Ride roared into Bakersfield just before 5:30 p.m. Their clusters of motorcycles lined the parking lots of the Hampton Inn and LaQuinta Inn North as they scrambled to obtain room keys. The riders had to rush a bit because dinner was scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Bakersfield Harley Davidson dealership.

Fans at the dealership were treated to autographs, photographs with NASCAR celebrities, and dinner free of charge! NBC Sports NASCAR analyst and former NASCAR driver, Kyle Petty, even joined the band for a song. Also on hand was Rick Allen, a NBC Sports NASCAR analyst and NASCAR racing legends Donnie Allison and Harry Gant.

The “King” Richard Petty and 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, Matt Kenseth were in Talladega for the race, but are scheduled to join the ride in a couple of days. Rutledge Wood will also join the group later in the week. He is busy with a new show (Lost In Transmission) coming out this week.

NASCAR Race Mom stopped to chat with a jovial Donnie Allison as he made his appearance after refueling his motorcycle in preparation for the next day’s 9:00 a.m. departure to Tonopah, Nevada.

“Riding down the coast has to be one of my favorite parts of this ride,” Allison described. “Down on the East Coast we see the West Coast on the television; but the TV does not do it justice. It was so beautiful.”

Allison is possibly most remembered for his involvement in a final-lap crash and subsequent fight with Cale Yarborough at the 1979 Daytona 500. It all happened on the first nationally televised NASCAR race and drew quite a bit of interest in the sport. Donnie has been out to Victory Junctions on numerous occasions. He and his wife are good friends with all the Pettys.

“I will do anything I can to help with Victory Junction because it is such a good cause.” Donnie added.

NASCAR Race Mom and Harry Gant #kpcharityride

An interesting fact NASCAR Race Mom learned about “Handsome Harry?” Mr. Gant never did like that nickname and even refused to appear should an announcer continue to introduce him as such! It wasn't until 1980 -- the year he turned 40 -- that he ran the first of his fifteen full seasons at NASCAR's top level. He can boost of eighteen sprint cup wins.

“I have done all the rides since it started twenty-one years ago. In fact we were riding to Phoenix several years before that.” Harry remembered. “The first official ride had about fourteen riders . . . . then it grew to forty-five and gradually picked up over the years.”

Personally, Gant is thrilled when he sees an ad in a magazine, then realizes that he has visited that location on the charity ride. Gant has also been to Victory Junction several times and expressed his passion regarding the wonderful experience the camp provides for the kids and their families.

This will be the first year Rick Allen has participated in the entire Charity Ride. However, that did not preclude him from being an excellent ride spokesperson.

“I am looking forward to meeting all the people along the ride stops. To be able to say hello and spread the word about Victory Junction. So come out and see us if you can. If you cannot donate, just go and see the message. We are trying to make sure that kids who do not have a lot of reasons to smile, get that opportunity. Victory Junction gives kids a reason to smile in the face of some very tough circumstances. Also when the kids get to go to camp, their families are able to take a break from their constant daily care.”

Kyle Petty Spends Time With Young Fans #kpcharityride
For this writer and NASCAR fan, it was a real treasure to witness an event where the attendees have such unlimited access to NASCAR Royalty. Kyle Petty works diligently to insure that the each and every fan who make it out to one of their stops are treated like a valued friend.

The Pettys have recognized an often hidden necessity to provide a fun yet nurturing and safe environment for children slowed a bit by illness and/or disabilities. Victory Junction allows these children to just be kids who can enjoy life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun and empowering, at no cost to them nor their families!
