#NASCAR Returns to Michigan International Speedway

Two Cup, a Truck Race, and an ARCA Race - August 7-9

#NASCAR Returns to Michigan International Speedway

NASCAR will return to Michigan International Speedway the weekend of August 7-9, it was announced today. Over the course of the three days, NASCAR will run four races across three different series. This includes the postponed NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400, which will be run on Saturday, August 8, as well as the scheduled NASCAR Cup Series Consumers Energy 400 on Sunday, August 9.

It will mark just the second time that NASCAR will run Cup Series races on consecutive days at the same track. The first occurred two weeks ago, with the previously scheduled races at Pocono, Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28.

The weekend slate will also consist of a NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race (August 7) and the ARCA Menards Series VizCom 200 (August 9). The VizCom 200 was originally scheduled for June. The NASCAR Xfinity Series race that was scheduled for June in Michigan will been realigned to a future date on NASCAR’s 2020 schedule.

All four races will be televised nationally and will also air on MRN and its network of nationwide affiliates, in addition to Sirius XM NASCAR Channel 90. The events will be run without fans.

“The return of NASCAR racing at Michigan International Speedway is an important step in the reemergence of professional sports to our state,” said Michigan International Speedway President Rick Brenner. “The opportunity to host four races over the course of one weekend, including a pair of Cup events on successive days, is something that we look forward to and that we feel a tremendous amount of responsibility. We appreciate the patience and support from all of our fans, and we look forward to seeing them back in 2021.”

Ticket holders for 2020 NASCAR races at Michigan International Speedway will automatically receive a credit for the full amount of their purchase, plus an additional 20% of the total amount paid in their account within the next 7-10 days. The credit can be applied to a future race event in 2020 or 2021 at a NASCAR-owned track, subject to availability. For additional ticket holder options and more information, please visit mispeedway.com/assistance. If a refund is preferred, forms are due August 7, 2020.

Latest Regarding #NASCAR Weekend at Atlanta

Latest Regarding #NASCAR Weekend at Atlanta
With the health and safety of fans, staff, competitors, race teams and media our top priority, NASCAR and Atlanta Motor Speedway postponed this weekend's race activities to a yet-to-be determined future date.

Ticketholders on file may use their March 13-15, 2020 tickets for the postponed event, choose to receive an event credit for the full amount paid plus an additional 20%, or choose to receive a full refund of their purchase price.

"This was a difficult decision to make for our sport, and we regret the uncertainty and inconvenience that has surrounded our race week. In light of these unprecedented circumstances that continue to change quickly, this postponement is a precautionary move that we feel is the best course of action. There is great collaboration within the industry to do what's best, and we ask for patience amongst our fans as we start the online process for ticket credits or refunds," said Atlanta Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Brandon Hutchison.  "We hope our fans support us in this decision and come back even stronger when we are back to racing at AMS."

The Exchange Form will be available for fans to complete beginning on Monday, March 16.

Crafton – 2019 #NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Champion

After missing the Championship 4 last season for the first time since the elimination-style Playoffs were introduced to the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, Matt Crafton came back to contend for the 2019 title in Miami last night in the rain delayed finale.

The lone back-to-back champion in series history (2013, 2014) got to Miami the hard way – through consistency. Crafton was the only driver in the Championship 4 who hadn’t visited Victory Lane this season. (In fact, he hasn’t hoisted a trophy since Eldora Speedway in July of 2017 – a string of 57 races without a win.) Nevertheless, the veteran driver put together six top-five and 17 top-10 finishes this season.

That losing streak was not broken last night. Nevertheless, Matt’s second place finish in the “Ford EcoBoost 200” was enough to propel him into his third title.

Some NASCAR fans have been vocal regarding our now three-time Truck Champion’s ability to capture this latest throne without a 2019 race win.

However, Crafton abided by the current rules and in NASCAR Race Mom’s humble opinion, earned his way into the NASCAR History book.

Crafton History Lesson

To take a look back at Crafton’s championship seasons – both of which were before the current Playoff format was introduced to the Gander Trucks – he had only one win in his first title campaign in 2013, the fourth race of the season at Kansas (a 1.5-mile track like Miami). He then finished 21st in the season finale at Miami but had already locked up the title by starting the race.

Then in 2014, Crafton won a pair of races en route to the title – but both wins were early in the season, at Martinsville in the second race and then at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway in the sixth race. He then finished ninth at Miami to close out the title by 21 points over Ryan Blaney.

Spencer Boyd crossed the finish line .132 seconds behind Johnny Sauter in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Race. However, NASCAR informed the teams that the 'Sugarlands Shine 250' finish was under review and subsequently awarded the victory to Boyd. A penalty for blocking Riley Herbst below the yellow line in the final 200 yards of the event cost Sauter the victory. Spencer’s previous best series finish was a fourth in the 2019 season opener at Daytona.

“You know the first one you always dream of since a little kid. Its pretty crazy – I have been a race fan for a long time and I’ve been racings since I was five. So at twenty-four now, to go get that win with Young’s Motorsports, I’ve been driving the twenty for most of the year and this deal came together pretty late. . . . to drive this Alabama Roofing Professional Chevy this weekend. It was a total team effort; we worked really hard - - - the truck drafted really well. Just driving for a family owned team Tyler Young and his parents, Becky and Randy worked so hard and it is just a pleasure to be here at Talladega.” Expressed the excited race winner.

Last Weekend #NASCAR Winner’s Quotes

Last Weekend #NASCAR Winner’s Quotes

#Winners - Martin Truex Jr.; Tyler Reddick; Austin Hill; Ty Gibbs

Martin Truex Jr. – Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

#Winner Martin Truex Jr. – Monster Energy #NASCAR Cup Series

With his successful night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Martin Truex Jr. jumped atop the playoff leaderboard and is assured a spot in the Round of 12 of the playoffs.

We took a gamble this weekend. Thanks to everybody back at the shop that makes this happen: Toyota, TRD, Wally and all the guys, Todd and all the guys back there that build these cars. We took a gamble, qualified 24th. For a while it wasn't looking too smart with the 4 out front. Got the right adjustments in the end. Had a great car all day long.

Thanks to Toyota, TRD, Auto Owners, everyone who makes this happen for us. Hell of a way to make a championship run. Get some good bonus points, move on to the next round, see what we can do there.

Tyler Reddick - NASCAR Xfinity Series

#Winner Tyler Reddick - #NASCAR Xfinity Series

Tyler Reddick also gambled at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He took a chance on fuel mileage and racing just hard enough to hold off Christopher Bell by 0.738 seconds in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Rhino Pro Truck Outfitters 300.

“Christopher Bell had a really fast race car today, but we were just able to come in and get fuel and tires and run really fast laps to keep us in front of him,’’ said Reddick, whose 30 laps led to close out the win were the sum of his laps out front. “Hats off to (crew chief) Randall (Burnett) and all the guys. We’ve had a really fast car in the past, unfortunately today we didn’t have it but we got them with strategy.’’

Austin Hill - NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series

#Winner Austin Hill - #NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series

Austin Hill earned his third win of the 2019 season Friday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – perhaps his most important victory as it advances him to the second round of the playoffs with big momentum and raised expectations.

This means the world to me,’’ said Hill, 25, who passed Ross Chastain for the lead with 12 laps remaining. When I saw the 45 (Chastain) in my sights, we were running close lap times. I changed my line a little bit. And that was a big statement win.

Ty Gibbs – Arca Racing

#Winner Ty Gibbs – Arca Racing
Ty Gibbs (No. 18 Monster Energy/ORCA Coolers/Terrible Herbst/Advance Auto Parts Toyota) scored a dominant victory in Saturday night's ARCA Menards Series Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic 200 at Salem Speedway. Gibbs thoroughly dominated the entire day as he led the day's practice session, set the fast time in General Tire Pole Qualifying, and led every green flag lap to score his second career series victory.

"That's all due to my right foot, the guys who build these great racecars and the man upstairs," Gibbs said in victory lane. "It's great to come out here and get our second win of the season. We aren't racing for the championship so it's all about wins for us."
