Denny Hamlin Manages Michigan Mileage, Seals Third Cup Series Win of Season

Denny Hamlin Manages Michigan Mileage, Seals Third Cup Series Win of Season

Denny Hamlin landed his third victory of the NASCAR Cup Series season, coming out ahead in a fuel-mileage contest Sunday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway.

Hamlin led just five of the 200 laps in Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400, guiding the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to a 1.099-second margin of victory. His third win at the 2-mile Michigan track was the 57th of his Cup Series career.

Chris Buescher placed second in the No. 17 RFK Racing Ford. Ty Gibbs wound up third with Bubba Wallace fourth and Kyle Larson completing the top five.

“No, not really,” Hamlin said, insisting he wasn’t overly worried about running out of fuel in the closing laps. “I wanted to get the lead, and obviously he [Byron] was doing a really good job defending.

“Sorry, but I beat your favorite driver,” a grinning Hamlin – in his 701st career series start – addressed the rowdy Michigan crowd.

“This whole team just stepped up,” he said. “Great job. We’ve been so fast this entire year, just haven’t finished it for one reason or another, so it feels good to come to Michigan, where we’ve been so close the last couple of years.

“Such a gratifying day to restart 11th or 12th and charge to the front,” added Hamlin, who has now won multiple races in the last seven consecutive seasons.

Stewart Friesen Snaps 72-Race Winless Streak in Truck Series at Michigan

Stewart Friesen Snaps 72-Race Winless Streak in Truck Series at Michigan

Stewart Friesen hoisted his first trophy of the season in Saturday afternoon’s triple overtime DQS Solutions & Staffing 250 at Michigan International Speedway — a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series vrace that didn’t want to end, ultimately featuring 14 extra laps.

The victory snapped a 72-race winless streak for the Canadian driver Friesen, who had not been among the race’s front-runners all day but was where he needed to be when it counted, collecting his first trophy since 2022 at Texas Motor Speedway. His No. 52 Halmar Friesen Racing Toyota beat Grant Enfinger’s Chevrolet by 0.111 seconds.

With most drivers opting for the outside row for lane choice on the final restart, Friesen moved up and took the inside position on the front row alongside Enfinger. The two of them dueled it out over the next two overtime laps to settle the trophy. Neither had a win this season coming into the race.

“I don’t know what to say, thank you to Chris, Halmar and all these sponsors and all these race fans, I know there’s a lot of Canadians and a lot of Americans,” Friesen said as the crowd began a huge roar of approval for the 41-year-old Ontario native as he celebrated his fourth career win.

Brenden Queen Fends Off Corey Heim for 3rd ARCA Menards Series Victory of 2025

Brenden Queen Fends Off Corey Heim for 3rd ARCA Menards Series Victory of 2025

Earning another ARCA Menards Series checkered flag on Friday evening required Brenden Queen to put on a defensive clinic.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Corey Heim, a late addition to Friday’s race, was a constant presence in Queen’s rearview mirror during the closing stages of the Henry Ford Health 200 at Michigan International Speedway. The only things Queen could do were break the draft and dump as much dirty air on Heim’s front bumper as he could.

Queen withstood Heim’s spirited charge to claim his third ARCA Menards Series victory across seven career starts. The final laps featured plenty of stress and included contact with Gio Ruggiero on the final restart, but the always jovial Queen was elated to celebrate a win in his first trip to Michigan.

“I have so much respect for [Heim] and Gio [Ruggiero],” Queen said. ‘What happened with me and Gio going into [turn] three [on the last restart], I’m not sure if I turned in early. If it was my fault, I’m sorry. We were racing for the win there.”

“I knew I was going to have to hold off Heim Time there, but it’s Bean Nation time tonight!”

MISCamping.com Infield Sold Out for Fourth Year in a Row

Michigan International Speedway announced that the MISCamping.com infield for the June NASCAR weekend has officially sold out for the fourth year in a row. General camping, grandstand tickets, and hospitality are still available for fans to experience NASCAR’s return to the Irish Hills.

“I want to thank our unbelievable fans for making a fourth consecutive infield camping sell out possible for the FireKeepers Casino 400 race weekend,” said Michigan International Speedway President Joe Fowler. “This incredible streak is a testament to the unwavering passion and enthusiasm of our fans and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back for an action-packed weekend this June.”

During the 2024 FireKeepers Casino 400, a late caution with Martin Truex Jr. made the race go into overtime. Tyler Reddick and William Byron battled for the lead in overtime when another caution involving Ross Chastain made the race go into a second overtime. Reddick came out of the second overtime victorious, the second of his three wins in 2024.

Chris Buescher wards off Truex, goes back-to-back with victory at Michigan

After rain forced this Monday race; in an extended, dramatic, nail-biting green-flag run to the finish, Chris Buescher held off hard-charging Martin Truex Jr. to win his second straight Cup Series race. With team co-owner Brad Keselowski finishing fourth and Buescher winning – the ninth straight victory for Ford drivers at the 2-mile speedway – RFK can claim bragging rights as the top Ford team in the Cup garage, at least for now.

“This Castrol Mustang was so good in practice, qualifying,” said Buescher, who picked up his fourth career victory. “Gave me a great car again. Had to work for that one, too, hard racing at the end.

“Martin was very clean with me. I appreciate that. Get to go to Victory Lane two weeks in a row. That’s pretty awesome.”

John Hunter Nemechek prevails at Michigan, lands JGR’s 200th Xfinity win

Overcoming an early wreck, a late caution and an angry teammate (Ty Gibbs), John Hunter Nemechek claimed a milestone victory in Saturday’s Cabo Wabo 250 at Michigan International Speedway.

The NASCAR Xfinity win was the 200th in the series for Joe Gibbs Racing. For Nemechek, it was the fifth victory of the season and the seventh of his career – all at different tracks.

With all the success Nemechek has had this year and with seven career wins in the Xfinity Series, there is growing interest in what his plans are next year perhaps as a Cup driver.

“I'm 100% focused on this year and trying to win the Xfinity championship,” he said. “I don’t know what my plans are for ’24. I have no clue.”

With the victory, Nemechek gained a tie with Austin Hill for the series points lead. Nemechek owns the potential tiebreaker with five victories to Hill’s four.

Jesse Love battles exhaustion, rivals to claim an impressive win

Jesse Love entered Friday’s ‘Henry Ford Health 200’ having won five races in 2023, easily the most in the ARCA Menards Series this year.

The ARCA championship points leader’s sixth victory came in arguably the most chaotic — and, in his case, exhausting — event of the season.

“Just a lot of good guys around us,” a spent Love said, referring to his Venturini team. “Lost our cool suit, lost the helmet blower, feet blower went out from the heat you get. Just everything.

“I feel like I’m in pretty good shape. I go on runs with my dog Buck every day. … But I’m definitely worn out.”

#NASCAR Star, KyleBusch dominated again for the second consecutive SRX race in as many starts on Thursday night at Berlin Raceway, just outside Grand Rapids, Michigan, adding to his triumph last week at Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia.

“Just being here before, knowing what to expect, all that sort of stuff,” Busch said after taking the checkered flag at a track he’s appeared several times in other events, including prior Late Model races.

“I thought about restarting in fourth (in the final restart of the race, late in the event) and I thought, ‘Don’t just change it up now, just stick with what I was doing.’”

“Yeah, this is my two-for-two,” said Busch added, whose car was sponsored in both races by the NHL’s Florida Panthers. “I’d love to come back. I’m out for the year, but the rest of these guys can put on a show for you.”

Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn, Michigan, boasts a proud, 50-year history of hosting America's best racing action on its 1,400-plus acres in the scenic Irish Hills. With 18-degree banking and 73-foot wide sweeping turns, Michigan International Speedway provides drivers with three and four grooves to run around the two-mile speedway.

Cale Yarborough won the first NASCAR race at the speedway on June 15, 1969, in a thrilling duel with LeeRoy Yarbrough. The two drivers battled door-to-door for most of the final 150 laps. On their final circuit, they touched twice-entering turn one, with Yarbrough brushing the outside wall. They then drafted down the back straight, and through turn three. But while coming out of the final turn, LeeRoy Yarbrough spun and crashed just 300 yards from the finish line, handing the victory to Yarborough.

NASCAR Race Mom has never visited #NASCAR’s Most Entertaining Track; however it is definitely on the bucket list!

Former Detroit Lions Player Cory Schlesinger Named Grand Marshal of FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway

  • The beloved twelve-year NFL veteran to give command to fire engines for pivotal NASCAR Cup Series race

Cory Schlesinger, a fullback known for his never-back-down gameplay that spanned a 12-year career with the Detroit Lions, will get the crowd and the drivers fired up for the FireKeepers Casino 400 this Sunday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway, the track announced today.

A key member of the 1995 national champion Cornhuskers from his home state of Nebraska, Schlesinger was drafted in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL draft and became a stalwart on the Lions for over a decade. He was named to the team’s 75th Season All-Time Team in 2008 and to the Lions’ All-Time Team in 2019. Following his pro football career, Schlesinger remained in Michigan and has taught Industrial Arts at Allen Park High School since 2008.

“Cory has deep ties to Michigan sports and also to STEM education in the state,” said Michigan International Speedway President Joe Fowler. “Plus, he has a passion for cars that extends back to his high school days, which makes it even more fun to have him join us as Grand Marshal. We know the fans are going to share in our enthusiasm as he kicks off Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400.”

Noah Gragson Suspended by Team

Noah Gragson Suspended by Team

Josh Berry to Race the #42 Legacy Motor Club Entry

Legacy Motor Club said Saturday that Noah Gragson had been suspended for Sunday’s race at Michigan for “actions that do not represent the values of our team.”

Gragson will be replaced by Josh Berry in the No. 42 car for Sunday’s race. Berry — who will replace Kevin Harvick at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2024 — succeeded Gragson in the No. 9 Xfinity Series car at JR Motorsports when Gragson moved up to the Cup Series in 2023.

“I am disappointed in myself for my lack of attention and actions on social media,” Gragson wrote. “I understand the severity of this situation. I love and appreciate everyone. I try to create everyone equally no matter who they are. I messed up plain and simple.”

Apparently, the twenty-five-year-old Gragson liked an Instagram meme mocking the 2020 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Gragson is currently in thirty-third place in the 2023 point standings with no top ten finishes. He is second out of two rookies illegible for the Sunoco Rookie of The Year standings.

Michigan International Speedway Returns Acceleration Club to Turn 4

Marks 7th Win In A Row For Ford Performance

Ford Performance and Roush Yates Engines won their seventh straight NASCAR Cup race at Michigan International Speedway with Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney

Ford Performance and Roush Yates Engines won their seventh straight NASCAR Cup race at Michigan International Speedway with Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney in the FireKeepers Casino 400. This was Blaney’s second win of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Season and Ford retained the Michigan Heritage Trophy, presented to the winning manufacturer at the 2-mile track.

“Congratulations to Ford, Ryan, Todd, Roger, and the entire No. 12 crew for the strong finish and making it 7 wins in a row at Michigan,” said Doug Yates

“This is such a big deal for our company, for our employees,” said Mark Rushbrook, the global director of Ford Performance. “To come here and race in front of all of our employees and their friends and families and have Ryan go get that win with Team Penske and Roush Yates power. We are taking the Heritage Trophy back to Dearborn.”

“Congratulations to Ford, Ryan, Todd, Roger, and the entire No. 12 crew for the strong finish and making it 7 wins in a row at Michigan,” said Doug Yates, President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines. “We have always strived to finish strong at Michigan and this year was no exception. We are thankful for the continued leadership and commitment from Ford Motor Company and honored to power these Mustangs.”

Blaney started the race in third position but was quickly shuffled to mid-pack at the start of the race. Blaney and the No. 12 team continued to make adjustments and finished stage 1 & 2 just outside of the top 10. There were 20 lead changes throughout the race and the last half of the race came down to pit strategy and race execution. With 20 laps remaining, there was a brief caution for rain and another following a 7-car incident with 14 to go. With 8 laps remaining, Blaney was able to take the lead and hold off the hard charging second position by 0.077 seconds.

#NASCAR Cup Race Winner Ryan Blaney started the race in third position.

“We come up here every year and know it is important to the Blue Oval and the Ford family and Mr. Penske as well. It is a really big race for all of our group including the Penske side. To have Edsel here, I haven’t seen Edsel in over a year so it was great to have him out. I am excited to get him in victory lane. Everyone from Ford does so much for us. It really is a big family and I am just happy to be a part of it.” commented Blaney.
