Nashville Superspeedway to Honor Carl Edwards

Nashville Superspeedway to Honor Carl Edwards

During Ally 400 Weekend

Nashville Superspeedway to Honor Carl Edwards

Carl Edwards executed six of his patented “Victory Backflips” with perfect precision during post-race celebrations at Nashville Superspeedway following some dominating performances at the D-shaped oval in the 2000s. Next weekend, officials from the all-concrete 1.3-mile track will host the Missouri native as a very special guest of the Ally 400 NASCAR weekend where his stellar record at Nashville Superspeedway will be celebrated.

Edwards, who shocked the racing community by becoming an early retiree in 2016 at age 36 with 28 Cup Series victories, was named one of NASCAR’s top 75 drivers during the sanctioning body’s yearlong 75th anniversary celebration. That honor from NASCAR was made possible by his remarkable record at Nashville Superspeedway, where he scored five NASCAR Xfinity Series wins (July 2011, April 2011, June 2007, April 2007 and June 2006) and one NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory (August 2003) in his career at NASCAR’s largest concrete oval.

Edwards was so good at Nashville Superspeedway that in his 13 career Xfinity Series starts he posted 12 top-10 finishes and 11 top-five showings. His lone finish outside the top 10 was 13th.

Fans attending the event on June 25 will have several opportunities to see Edwards prior to the running of the Ally 400 that night.

Edwards will make an appearance at the fan zone stage where he will be interviewed by NASCAR personality Alex Weaver. He will also make a stop by the pre-race concert stage prior to country music star Parker McCollum’s performance. Edwards is scheduled to participate in official pre-race ceremonies and will make a special visit with guests in the Green Room Lounge, one of Nashville Superspeedway’s newly created VIP and premium experiences.

Away from the track, Edwards has been quite busy. He appeared on an episode of The Price is Right and guest-starred in an episode of the FOX drama series 24. He played in a celebrity softball game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and made a cameo as a West Virginia state trooper in the film Logan Lucky. He has also appeared in several country music videos, most notably for Sara Evans’ song “Slow Me Down” and Justin Moore’s hit “Bait a Hook.” He was on Chicago Fire, co-hosted the Kelly and Regis Show, and many more.

NASCAR Star Carl Edwards to Chase John Schneider and General Lee

NASCAR Star Carl Edwards to Chase John Schneider and General Lee

Gearing Up for ‘Bo's Extravaganza’ at John Schneider Studios

When they came up with the idea for "The Dukes of Hazzard," it was originally an independent film called "The Moonrunners." It was one of those drive-in movies; low-budget, Southern redneck film. Then Gy Waldron took the concept to Warner Brothers.

"Wouldn't this make a good TV show?" Gy Waldron

So they went back to Atlanta and auditioned. John Schneider got the part of Bo Duke and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Dukes of Hazzard, an action-comedy television series, aired on CBS from January 26, 1979, to February 8, 1985; for a total of 147 episodes spanning seven seasons.

The General Lee (sometimes referred to as simply "the General") was the name given to the 1969 orange Dodge Charger driven in the television series. Known for its signature horn, police chases, and acrobatic jumps, the General Lee’s escapades were the result of a slew of stunt men, and not “them Duke Boys.”

John Schneider, star of ‘Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots’ is still the beloved "Bo Duke" to millions of fans.

Although it was Schneider voice yelling the "yeehaaa" in the series opening credits, he had never jumped the General Lee.

Well, that is about to change. On his birthday, April 7th, John will jump the iconic General Lee over a Louisiana swamp after a Duke-style chase with NASCAR legend Carl Edwards! What could go wrong?

Celebs in Attendance:

  • Tom Wopat (Luke Duke)
  • Carl Edwards (NASCAR)
  • Renee Lawless (Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots)
  • Peter Parros (Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots)
  • and more…

For more information, click here to be directed to the Bo’s Extravaganza Website.

If I lived anywhere near Louisiana – you know I would be there!

Are You Ready for a #NASCAR Heist Film

Ocean's 11 director Steven Soderbergh returns to heist films – and filmmaking in general after a four-year hiatus – with Logan Lucky, starring Channing Tatum and Adam Driver as down-and-out brothers who conspire to rob a NASCAR event.

"Trying to reverse a family curse, brothers Jimmy and Clyde Logan set out to execute an elaborate robbery during the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway," the film's synopsis states.

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Drivers, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards (retired), Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson add a bit of authenticity to the production by popping into the film for brief roles. However, none have a role as a racecar driver.

Rookie Ryan Blaney, who portrays a delivery boy in “Lucky Logan” also has roles in NASCAR on Fox (2001), NASCAR on Speed (2003) and Cars 3 (2017) on his resume. Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch play West Virginia State Troopers; Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano are security guards; and Kyle Larson appears as a Limo Driver.

NASCAR hasn’t been the vehicle for a major Hollywood feature film since ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’ a decade ago. Though ‘Lucky Logan’ isn’t about NASCAR, the sport is used as the background for the plot.

‘Logan Lucky’ is scheduled for release tomorrow on August 18th.

Bristol Motor Speedway 2016

Bristol Motor Speedway 2016

A Wild, Action-Filled Afternoon at Thunder Valley

Carl Michael Edwards II 'walked away' from NASCAR with one year remaining on his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing before the start of the 2017 season; therefore he will not be able to defend his 2016 win.

The recent retiree won the 2016 Food City 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) in a controlling manner.

Starting from the preferred positon of pole, Edwards lead two hundred and seventy-six (276) and beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the checkered by .766 seconds.

However, that was not the only story of the April BMS event.

Rookie Chase Elliott posted a career-best fourth-place result a week after recording a career-best fifth at Texas. Chase earned himself ten top-five finishes last season.

Trevor Bayne ran fifth, scoring his first top-five since his surprise victory in the 2011 season-opening Daytona 500. Bayne makes his sixth career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) start at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

However, most heartwarming, was the tale of Matt DiBenedetto. He crossed the finish line in sixth, scoring a best-ever finish (and only the second top 10) for BK Racing. Matt’s emotional interview after the race was moving.

The Food City 500 is the cornerstone event of the 2017 Spring race weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, and one of the most anticipated events on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series schedule.

"On a race weekend we can gather driver feedback but at a place like this we can gather all sorts of measurements on the car," Todd Gordon, crew chief of the No. 22 Ford driven by Joey Logano reported. "We're working through all the pieces that are hard to quantify when you don't have a data system on it.
"That's the biggest part here. I've gone through brake cooling pieces because it's a braking race track. Tire usage and what's going on there. Just gather data that we can bring forward to the next race weekend and look at in our development of the package that we'll come back with."

Here were the best single lap times from the first PIR test session on Wednesday:
  1. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Hendrick Motorsports) — 26.555 seconds
  2. Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing) — 26.583

After NASCAR Veteran Carl Edwards confirmed his plans to retire immediately, his successor shares his thoughts on being named to take over the No. 19 Camry.

"This is amazing. I wasn't expecting to be in this position right now. It's been an amazing time. This is hard to believe that I'm in this position. We started all this dream 10 years ago with NASCAR, and right now to be in this position, to be in this opportunity is just something amazing for me and for everyone that has been helping me, of course.

Daniel Suárez's #NASCAR Dream Materializes
I know that it won't be easy. We have a lot to work. I have a lot to learn. But I'm sure that it couldn't happen in a better situation with Dave Rogers and the entire 19 group. It's just an amazing team. I feel like it's just a perfect place to be for a rookie like me that is really hungry to learn and to go out there and to perform well.

Really, as well, I want to thank a lot of people that helped me to get to this point. My family, of course; Coach Gibbs and the entire Joe Gibbs Racing family, for trusting me years ago, a kid from México, that barely was speaking English. Obviously my sponsors, ARRIS, Stanley, Subway, Interstate Batteries, Coca-Cola, and of course Toyota. I can't wait to drive that car, and that's sharp. That's just unbelievable. I wish I could take it to the street right now.

And as well, everyone in México. Everyone in México, they've been supporting me, not just right now, but when we started all this journey more than 10 years ago, it's been amazing, Jimmy Morales, Carlos Slim, Gustavo Arenas, the entire Sabates family, NASCAR for the amazing support through the Drive 4 Diversity program. It's been an amazing journey, and I can't wait for the future. Thank you very much, everyone."

Is It Racing or Just A Show?

Is It Racing or Just A Show? NASCAR Race Mom really enjoyed this article by Vivian Simons of RaceFansForever and just had to share it with the readership:

Is It Racing or Just A Show?

I've tried. Goodness knows I've tried. But somehow I cannot reconcile my feelings about how this season of NASCAR is ending. I keep asking myself, and others, what has happened. Sadly, neither I nor anyone else has an answer.

My feelings seemed to change drastically during the last race at Talladega on October 23, 2016. To protect and help their advancement to the Chase, three of the normally faster cars in most Cup races, decided to fall to the back and just ride there for the entire race. They finished 28th, 39th and 30th. They were Toyotas driven by JGR drivers Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch.

Way back on September 15, 2013 NASCAR made a new rule and then they announced the following to the fans.

"NASCAR requires its competitors to race at 100 percent of their ability with the goal of achieving their best possible finishing position in an event," NASCAR president Mike Helton said, quoting the new rule. "Any competitor who takes action with the intent to artificially alter the finishing positions of the event or encourages, persuades or induces others to artificially alter the finishing position of the event shall be subject to a penalty from NASCAR.

"Artificially altered shall be defined as actions by any competitor that show or suggest that the competitor did not race at 100 percent of their ability for the purpose of changing finishing positions in the event at NASCAR's sole discretion."

After the Talladega race, NASCAR deemed no rules were broken. What they said was:

"The spirit of that rule is really to prevent somebody from intentionally allowing another teammate to do something that would not be in the spirit of the rules of the race,"[Steve] O'Donnell said. "In this case, we look at that as a strategy decision that the team made. They executed it.

"It's obviously part of the format. It's a decision that they made during the race. But in this case, that wouldn't be something that we look at that violates that rule."

At this point, some of you may be asking, what does this have to do with anything at this late date?
