Happy #NASCAR Father’s Day

Happy #NASCAR Father’s Day

What!!! - No Racing

Happy #NASCAR Father’s Day

Why is there no NASCAR event on 2023 Father’s Day weekend?

The simplest answer: It’s a good time for everyone to take a rest. The last weekend off for the Cup Series came on Super Bowl Sunday, which fell between the Busch Light Clash and the Daytona 500. There won’t be another break until the season ends with the Championship 4 in November.

However, NASCAR Race Mom (NRM) laments that this decision takes away an opportunity for Fathers and their children to construct lasting Father’s Day memories. Hopefully, next Father’s Day will feature the wholesome adventure I cherish as NASCAR.

New FMzR is Bringing the FM Class into the Future

New FMzR is Bringing the FM Class into the Future

Fastest Car in Class with the Highest Safety Standards

New FMzR is Bringing the FM Class into the Future #FMzR

Just like his name’s sake ***Moses (Smith) has spent forty years in his marathon journey refining his craft. His love for racing sprinted into action at age three, when he would accompany his father Paul to work in the garage of off-road racer Malcolm Vinje. This beginning of his racing education included the Vinje’s team win of the 1983 Baja International Class 5.

As soon as was allowed, Moses joined the San Diego Karting Association and competed in the go-karting circuit. As a youngster, he garnished moderate success. Nevertheless, from there, Moses has worked relentlessly to set himself apart from the rest.

After graduating from high school, in Escondido California, Moses tackled the task of mastering his art with a tenuousness forged in passion. Rather than relying on funds from friends and family, Moses took any and all employment he could find that could be considered sport related.

Moses' resume includes driving instructor (Jim Hall Racing Schools; Bob Bondurant School of High Performance; Skip Barber Racing School); Crew Chief for a Star Mazda Pro Team; Test Driver for Star Mountain Racing; Crew Chief for a USAC Midget Team; Fabricator for Stewart Racing Products; and Mechanic for Team Medlin.

The year 2002 was Moses' first full year in the Star Mazda arena. That year he amassed an impressive scorecard. In the thirteen races, Moses managed to take six pole positions, with five first-place finishes, four second-place finishes, two fourth-place finishes, and a fifth place.

Always looking to expand his knowledge base, Moses entered the NASCAR scene in 2006. Besides an impressive on track showing which included a third-place finish in the 2011 Season points standing; Moses was voted the K&N Pro Series West Most Popular Driver four years in a row. (2008-2011)

While keeping up with his full-time NASCAR race schedule, Moses morphed into the role of race car manufacturer for the original Formula Mazda FM rotary-powered race cars in September of 2009.

The FM is an open wheel race car which is adaptable to both oval tracks and road courses. Moses Smith Racing, LLC. (MSR) took over all support and manufacturing rights for the approximately 300 FM rotary-powered race cars in use across North America, as well as the MSR sports racer, a full-bodied version of the FM.

Moses’ facility houses racecar manufacturing and parts supply under the Formula Mazda  Banner. Texas Autosports,  is a full-service Formula Mazda Racecar prep shop located at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX. It is essentially the one-stop shop for Formula Mazda Racing, operating out of an 10,000 square foot facility at what is affectionately dubbed 'The Ranch'.

Not one to be satisfied with the status quo, during the pandemic, the driving suit came off as Moses transformed from the role of car manufacturer to race car research and development. Using all his years of experience and involvement in the different styles of race venues, Smith designed and constructed a vehicle that will be the fastest Formula Car in its Class! This new beauty is named the Formula Mazda FMzR.

Whether you are new to racing or a seasoned veteran, the FMzR will impress you.

***This writer is aware that Mother’s Day is months away, however, this mom is going to take a moment to brag. As some of you know, NASCAR Race Mom has a son who races. However, a little-known fact is that my son Moses Smith (Racing) has been the manufacturer of an open wheel race car since 2009 and has now created the new Formula Mazda FMzR.  It is the fastest car in class with the highest safety standards.

On a personal note, this writer had the privilege of speaking with Mr. Bondurant at a 2016 Barrett-Jackson Auction.  Bob was a true gentleman who seem genuinely please to meet you. He served as a mentor to an overabundance of up-and-coming racers, including my son, Moses Smith.

You will be remembered and miss Bob Bondurant!

Robert Lewis Bondurant, April 27, 1933-November 12, 2021

Friday, November 12, 2021, the world lost an iconic American racing hero, Bob Bondurant. Bondurant passed away at the age of 88 and is survived by his wife, Pat, President and CEO of the Bondurant Racing School,  who vows to continue the legacy of Bob's School.

Robert Lewis Bondurant was born on April 27, 1933, to John Roper Bondurant and Ruth Williams Bondurant of Evanston, Illinois. His father owned two luxury car dealerships named "Bondurant Motors." When Bob turned two years old, the family moved to Westwood Village, CA.

Bob began his fascination with speed as a three-year-old on his first tricycle with playing cards clothes pinned on his spokes for the sound of the rush. At age 8, his father introduced him to racing by taking him to Thursday night midget races.

By twelve years old, his parents were divorced, and he persuaded his mother to purchase a Whizzer electric bike to deliver his newspapers faster. By 14, he owned his first Indian motorcycle, and after the devastating death of his mother at 16 years old, he started racing flat track and even bigger Indians and Harleys. His mother's death left him inconsolable, which is where the seed of his fearlessness was realized.

Bob was then inducted as the youngest member of the "Galloping Gooses,"  which eventually became "Hell's Angels." At 23 years old, he discovered that he had more control with four wheels than he did with two, and his racing career began in a Morgan Plus 4.

From the age of 23 to 34, Bob became one of the most iconic race car drivers in the world. He had won the National Corvette Title, Le Mans GT, the World Championship, and the Baja 500... Between 1961 and 1963, he won 30 out of 32 races in Corvettes. Bob is the first and only American to bring the World SportsCar  Championship trophy home to America in the legendary Shelby Daytona Coupe #26. He then rose to the highest level in racing with Ferrari in Formula 1 and prototypes.

Bondurant left the Formula 1 race series to race the even faster Can-Am cars with best friend and team driver, Peter Revson, in the Lola T70 Mark II. In 1967, a fateful race at Watkins Glen  changed his entire career, and the Bondurant School was born. His steering arm broke at 150mph, and, lying in traction at the hospital, he vividly remembers his conversation with God explaining to Bob that he was needed more on Earth and to start a driving and safety school to save thousands of lives of those otherwise dying on the highways and in motorsports.

Answering the call, on February 14, 1968, Bob founded The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. For 50 years, it earned and held a reputation as the number-one racing school in the world, crediting Bob as "the global expert authority on driver training and safety." Using his notorious racing skills, he copyrighted "The Bondurant Method." Personally, he taught his hand-selected instructors how to educate the world to be better drivers.

Bob and the Bondurant team graduated well over 500,000 students at his famous school, including Christian Bale, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Nicolas Cage, and Tom Cruise, to name a few. Bondurant was actively at the track every day, enthusiastically greeting his new students until he was well over 85 years old. He kept racing, too. Bondurant's last Championship was 1997 for the World Cup Challenge, racing for Steve Saleen. Bondurant retired from racing at 79 after winning his last race at Pomona Raceway in his #72 ERA GT40.

Bob Bondurant has had a worldwide impact on the motorsports industry, and his legacy will live on eternally as the Bondurant Racing School moves forward into the future.

His wife Pat is the President and CEO of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving dba/ BONDURANT RACING SCHOOL and is carrying his legacy forward into the future.

Bondurant concludes, "My life has been lived in two halves. The first was becoming a World Champion driver. The second was teaching the world to become champions."
