The Mattioli Family
Our Philosophy of Giving

Dr. Joseph (Doc) Mattioli, founder and owner of Pocono Raceway, not only left a legacy in motorsports, but also in philanthropy. Dr. Mattioli, who passed away in January of 2012, was a native of Northeastern Pennsylvania and always looked for ways to give back to the region where he made his home. The success of Pocono Raceway allowed Doc to treat others in the community as family. When Mattioli saw a need in the community, he rose to the occasion to fill it. Prior to his death, Dr. Mattioli formed The Mattioli Foundation to insure the generosity and compassion to the community.

With his wife, Dr. Rose Mattioli, the Mattiolis’ improved upon the lives of everyone in the community. Their philanthropic contributions to education and healthcare in the region have made an impact to countless individuals within the area. From the creation of the Mattioli Emergency Wing at the Pocono Mountains Medical Center and the Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Mattioli Trauma Center to the donations at East Stroudsburg University and the Downtown Stroudsburg restoration project, the Mattiolis’ hard work and generosity has improved the well-being of thousands of lives and directly benefited those who required assistance.

Mattioli also believed the area’s future belonged to its youth. For more than two decades, the Mattioli Scholar Program provided scholarships to the top two students at each of the Pocono Area high schools. The American Cancer Society, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the United Way and Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital are just a few of the organizations that have benefited from generosity of the Mattioli family.

In 2009, they were presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their decades of giving in the Poconos. It is the highest award presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. In 2012, The Mattioli Foundation was the first recipient of the Dr. Joseph and Dr. Rose Mattioli Philanthropic Award presented by the United Way of Monroe County, PA. Dr. Rose Mattioli accepted the tribute on behalf of The Mattioli Foundation.

The Mattiolis’ grandson, Nick Igdalsky, is now in charge of the Mattioli Foundation and has continued the spirit of generosity set forth by his grandparents.
