Inexperience or a Product of the New Race Format?
After months of hard work and waiting, seventeen teams were frustrated during the second lap of the Camping World Truck Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway.
Shortly after the field crossed the start-finish line to signal the start of Lap 2, Chase Briscoe in his #29 Ford and racing for the first time in the Truck Series, gave Rookie Noah Gragson's #18 Toyota an off-center tap on the rear bumper. The move sent Gragson bouncing off the outside wall in Turn 1 and out of control. That ignited a chain reaction that ended up collecting a total of seventeen trucks in a wild wreck.

#18 Noah Gragson, #19 Austin Cindric, #16 Ryan Truex, #68 Clay Greenfield, #66 Ross Chastain, #52 Stewart Friesen, and #199 Tommy Joe Martins were only able to record one lap in the race. Somehow Briscoe managed on to finish third.
“I was running seventh or eighth at the time and felt like I just got popped from behind by the 29 going through (Turns) 1 and 2. … I had a good time out there for the lap that I got,” Gragson, an eighteen-year-old driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports stated.
"We had a short run here at Daytona. My team prepared a truck that qualified 15th and even had a shot at the pole. You have just as big a chance of winning as you do of getting caught up in 'the big one', it's a product of speedway racing. We will be back at Talladega and go for the win there." Clay Greenfield reported via Instagram
A dissatisfied Ryan Truex said he saw smoke and it was over. "People just aren’t patient. It’s lap four and we’re bump drafting. There’s no reason for it. It’s disappointing. Chalk it up to inexperience, I guess. There’s just no need to race this hard that early. Unfortunately, we’ve got a wrecked truck. I saw smoke and I slowed down and got pushed from behind and got hit three or four times and our truck was stuck in the mud and wrecked. We’ll go on to Atlanta.”

*NASCAR Race Mom’s opinion, NASCAR’s 2017 enhancement will definitely aid television ratings but at the cost of grass-roots racing – Oh Well, Let's Get Ready To Rumble.
