All eyes will be on Nevada and Utah from April 29 – May 5, 2023 as former NASCAR driver and racing analyst Kyle Petty celebrates the 27th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America with a scenic journey through the Sagebrush and Beehive States. As one of the most popular charity rides in the country, Petty will lead more than 125 motorcycles on a seven-day trek, covering over 1,500 miles in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Victory Junction – a camp dedicated to providing life-changing camping experiences for children with serious and chronic medical conditions.

Presented by Cox Automotive, the Ride will kick-off in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday, April 29 and will return to Salt Lake City on Friday, May 5 – marking the second time the Ride has started and ended in the same city. Cox Automotive is the world’s largest automotive services and solutions provider and is a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. The company’s brands include Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book and Manheim, which will host breakfast for the Ride at Manheim Utah on Saturday, April 29, and at Manheim Nevada on Wednesday, May 3.

“Our team at Manheim Utah is excited to kick off this inspirational event and cheer on the riders as they begin their journey,” said Cade Rindfleisch, general manager at Manheim Utah. “We look forward to sponsoring the Kyle Petty Charity Ride, especially seeing the joy it brings to the children at Victory Junction.”

Petty’s mile-long motor brigade features 225 participants, including 30 new riders, who will enjoy many indescribable views, bucket list items and unforgettable points of interest along this year’s route. Some of the highlights include visiting the Bonneville Salt Flats, lapping the track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, riding scenic Highway 12, Highway 14 and Highway 50, passing through Capitol Reef National Park, exploring Legends Motorcycle Museum, and so much more.

Spectators along the 2023 route are encouraged to attend one of the Ride’s seven overnight stops or daily pit stops to greet Petty and the riders, purchase memorabilia and make donations.

27th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America Schedule:

  • Day 1, Saturday, April 29 – Salt Lake City, Utah to Ely, Nevada
  • Day 2, Sunday, April 30 – Ely, Nevada to Tonopah, Nevada
  • Day 3, Monday, May 1 – “Free Day” in Tonopah, Nevada
  • Day 4, Tuesday, May 2 – Tonopah, Nevada to Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Day 5, Wednesday, May 3 – Las Vegas, Nevada to Cedar City, Utah
  • Day 6, Thursday, May 4 – Cedar City, Utah to Moab, Utah
  • Day 7, Friday, May 5 – Moab, Utah to Salt Lake City, Utah

“Nevada and Utah are two of my favorite states to ride motorcycles in. The vast changes in the landscape – from the desert to the red rocks to mountain terrain – paint the most vivid and breathtaking scenes, which I believe are best experienced on a motorcycle. Our riders are in for a picturesque treat along every road we travel, especially on Highway 50 (the loneliest road in America), which we pick up in Ely, Nevada – one of my favorite towns in America,” said Petty. “I consider myself extremely blessed to be able to ride this incredible route while also raising money to send kids to Victory Junction. The Ride allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my love of motorcycles and it is such a special gift.”

Victory Junction

Victory Junction has served as the Ride’s primary beneficiary since its establishment by Petty and his family in 2004 in honor of his late son, Adam. Since it first began in 1995, the Ride has raised more than $20 million for Victory Junction and other children’s charities. As a result, the Ride has helped Victory Junction mobilize resources to provide over 115,000 camp experiences for children of all levels of abilities who are living with complex medical conditions at no cost to their families.

Among the celebrities participating in the 2023 Ride are NASCAR Hall of Famer and seven-time champion Richard Petty; NASCAR legends Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace; former Formula 1, Champ Car and NASCAR driver Max Papis; former NFL great and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker; and NBC Sports NASCAR personality Rick Allen.

“Any chance I get to spend a week out West, I’m taking it,” said Kyle’s father, Richard Petty. “Add in riding motorcycles and you think, ‘It can’t get better than this.’ Then, you throw in helping the kids at Victory Junction and it’s just the cherry on top. That’s why I always look forward to Kyle’s Ride every year.”

The 2023 Ride is made possible by presenting sponsor Cox Automotive, as well as Coca-Cola, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Dodge Law, Racing Electronics, WinCraft Racing, FLUIDYNE Racing Products, Petty Family Foundation, Headbands of Hope, Piedmont Moving Systems, Fuel Me, Wiley X, Blue Emu and Goody’s.

Eleven-Year-Old Supports Victory Junction with Hand Drawn RPM Bubba Poster

Eleven-Year-Old Supports Victory Junction with Hand Drawn RPM Bubba Poster

Wallace's #43 Darlington Poster Honoring Adam Petty Auction

Eleven-Year-Old Supports Victory Junction with Hand Drawn RPM Bubba Wallace Poster #NASCAR

Mitchell is an eleven-year-old who loves NASCAR, everything Petty, and Bubba Wallace! He goes to lots of NASCAR races with his dad and always make posters to show support for his driver, Bubba Wallace, driver of the #43 and his team, Richard Petty Motorsports

For the Darlington race, Bubba drove a throwback scheme, designed to honor Adam Petty's win in the ARCA series, and the sponsor of the car, Victory Junction Camp. Mitchell made the poster in honor of Adam Petty, his legacy, and the camp.

That poster (pictured above) is autographed by Bubba Wallace, Kyle Petty, and the King of NASCAR - Richard Petty.  You can bid on this NASCAR artwork with all the proceeds of the sale to benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp Inc.

Interview of Mitchell by his Father

1) Mitchell, why did you make this poster?

Answer: To support Bubba Wallace and Richard Petty Motorsports. In memory of and honor of Adam Petty because of how good of a person he was. I am just happy Bubba got to drive that car.

2) Mitchell, why do you want to auction this poster off?

Answer: Because that is what Adam Petty would do. He would donate money to Victory Junction and he would do everything he could to make kids smile and I think something I dedicated to him should help a camp he wanted to make. I am just happy that my poster is gonna go for money that I can donate to get somebody to go to camp. My goal is to try to do the same thing that Adam would do. I want to be able to help that camp. I want to be a counselor when I turn 18. I want to help as much as I can to honor Adam Petty.

3) Why is Victory Junction special to you?

Answer: Because it is Adam Petty's legacy. It is what he wanted to make. I have been to Victory Junction Camp twice (not as a camper). When I was there I felt proud to be a 43 fan and to know about Adam Petty. It is a special place, just for kids who might not be able to go to camps like 4h or other camps I can go to.

4) What makes Adam Petty special to you?

Answer: He was just a great person. Everything he did for everybody was remarkable. There are not many people like that and I think that's pretty awesome.

Darlington marked Mitchell's 7th NASCAR race of the season and his 7th #43 poster this season. He makes them all for Bubba Wallace and the #43 team. He wanted to give the poster to the camp, but I made the suggestion that he auction it off for proceeds to go to Victory Junction Camp. He jumped all over it. He is so excited! His goal is no small one. He wants to raise enough money to send one camper to camp ($1,500-$2,500!). While I understand he likely won't reach his goal, I hope we can raise some funds for Victory Junction and some exposure as well! Mitchell's Dad

Adam Petty

Adam Kyler Petty was an American professional racing driver. He was the fourth generation from the Petty family to drive in races in the highest division of NASCAR racing. He is believed to be the first fourth-generation athlete in all of modern American professional sports.

Tragically, on May 12, 2000, in a practice session for the Busch 200 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Petty's throttle stuck wide open going into turn three, causing the car to hit the outside wall virtually head on. Petty was killed instantly when he suffered a basilar skull fracture. He was just nineteen years old.

The Petty family founded Victory Junction in honor of their son and to honor his dream of helping children.

100% of the sale of this item will benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp Inc.

Victory Junction enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camp experiences that are exciting, fun and empowering; all in a medically-safe environment at no cost to the camper or their family. Located in the hills of Randleman, North Carolina, Victory Junction is spread across 84 acres, allowing children to do what they do best - be kids, play, imagine, make friends and enjoy the adventures and experiences of camp life.

Happy Birthday Adam Petty and Thank You

Happy Birthday Adam Petty and Thank You

Legacy: Driver Safety & Victory Junction

Today would have been Adam Petty’s thirty-eighth birthday. For those of you unfamiliar with this NASCAR Racer; Adam was born on July 10, 1980 in Trenton, NJ into NASCAR Royalty.

Adam was the first fourth-generation driver in NASCAR history. His great-grandfather was Lee Petty; his grandfather is Richard “King” Petty; and his father is Kyle Petty.

Young Adam began his career in 1998, shortly after he turned eighteen, by winning his first ARCA race, driving the #45 Pontiac at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Sadly, he died shorty after, at the age of nineteen at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway when his throttle stuck wide open at turn three causing the car to hit the wall during practice.

As the mother of a race car driver, NRM is especially thankful to Adam and the Petty family.

The HANS device (also known as a head restraint) is a safety item compulsory in many car racing sports. It reduces the likelihood of head and/or neck injuries, such as a basilar skull fracture, in the event of a crash.

While it was Dale Earnhardt's death (Feb. 18, 2001) that ultimately led NASCAR officials to mandate the use of the Head and Neck Support (HANS) device to prevent basilar skull fractures, Adam’s death in a practice crash started NASCAR’s migration to that mandate.

Adam Petty's star was extinguished way too early. Incredibly, five months after Adam's death, his family partnered with Paul Newman and the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp to begin the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, North Carolina, as a memorial to Adam.

Victory Junction provides life-changing experiences for kids with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. The camp, opened in 2004, remains one of NASCAR's most popular official charities.

This NASCAR Race Mom appreciates Adam’s sacrifice and must take a moment to recognize the expense our sport’s safety extracted.   Happy Birthday Adam. We remember and miss you greatly.

Kyle and Morgan Petty Expecting Baby in June

Kyle and Morgan Petty Expecting Baby in June 2018

Kyle Petty is going to be a dad, again.

Kyle Petty and Wife Morgan Expecting First Child #NASCAR
Kyle and Morgan married two years ago.

The 57-year-old NBC Sports analyst for NASCAR America and former driver announced on Twitter Wednesday night he and wife Morgan are expecting their first child together. The two wed in December of 2015, and Morgan is the executive director of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America.

Petty is the son of seven-time premier series champion Richard Petty and the grandson of Lee Petty.

Petty is the son of seven-time premier series champion Richard Petty and the grandson of Lee Petty.

This will be the fourth child for Petty. He has three children from a previous marriage, daughter Montgomery and sons Austin and Adam. Adam, a fourth generation racer, passed away after a crash at New Hampshire in 2000.

“At the same time, you had Tony Roper, Kenny Irwin Jr, Adam, and then Dale [Earnhardt] Sr. Within a short period of time we lost three or four drivers, and we hadn’t lost any drivers in the sport in a number of years. I believe that the way the sports evolved, at that period of time from late ’97-’98 to 2000-2001, with so many accidents and so many deaths, I think it was a catalyst to wake people up and say we’ve got to fix this. We’re losing young drivers, in Adam and Kenny Irwin. We’re losing established stars, in Dale Earnhardt Sr. I think it woke everybody up and everybody focused on safety, from safer barriers to better seats to helmet design to interior design of the cars.” Kyle Petty in response to the question: Right after your son’s death there were a lot of safety changes to the sport, would his death have happened today?

Victory Junction Partners with Facebook for #GivingTuesday
If you are not familiar with Victory Junction, let me tell you it is one of NASCAR Race Mom’s passions.

Victory Junction Partners with Facebook for #GivingTuesday

Victory Junction is a medically safe, yet exhilarating camp that challenges children who have a serious medical condition to try things they never imagined possible. As they conquer activities like zip lining and archery or experience bowling, fishing or swimming, children build confidence that will shape how they view the rest of their lives.

However, Victory Junction can’t do it without you. Children with serious illnesses are given the camp experiences they deserve, always at no cost to their families, only through the support of generous individuals, companies and organizations.

Set your alarms...tomorrow is #GivingTuesday and Victory Junction needs your help! Facebook is going to match dollar-for-dollar any donations they receive (up to $50,000).

Starting at 8am EST, head to facebook.com/VictoryJunction and hit the “donate” button to help more kids experience the magic of Victory Junction!

Thanks to the generosity of donors, families never pay for their child to attend Victory Junction.
