Hendrick Adds Corvette to Collection, Benefiting Military Veterans

Hendrick Adds Corvette to Collection, Benefiting Military Veterans

Rick Hendrick Buys the First Retail 2019 Corvette ZR1 for $925,000

Hendrick Adds Corvette to Collection, Benefiting Military Veterans

Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick’s love of cars is well-documented.

This week, he added a very special car to his collection – for a very special cause.

At Barrett-Jackson, General Motors and Chevrolet offered two first retail production Corvette models for auction.

Hendrick purchased the Corvette ZR1 – the fastest, most powerful production Corvette ever built. The auction proceeds will benefit the *Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its work supporting wounded veterans through the Building for America’s Bravest program.

The other model – the Corvette Carbon 65 Edition coupe signed by President George W. Bush – was purchased by Chevrolet dealer John Staluppi with the proceeds benefiting the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative.

“GM and Chevrolet are proud to honor and support the brave men and women of our armed forces,” said Steve Hill, GM vice president of U.S. Sales and Service. “Thanks to the generosity of two of our dealers, John Staluppi and Rick Hendrick, we will be able to offer additional support to some of our most severely wounded veterans through the Bush Center Military Service Initiative and the Siller Foundation Building for America’s Bravest effort – both extremely worthy organizations.”

At Barrett-Jackson, General Motors and Chevrolet offered two first retail production Corvette models for auction.

GM and Chevrolet were proud to help support the organizations, as more than 6,000 veterans are employed at GM and there are more than 50,000 GM retirees who are veterans.

*The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is named for a New York City firefighter and first responder who died during the attacks of Sept. 11. The foundation builds mortgage-free smart homes for the most catastrophically injured service members. Each home is built with the goal of enabling the most severely injured heroes to live better, more independent lives.

Cars for a Cause: Two Earnhardt Rides Up for Auction

Cars for a Cause: Two Earnhardt Rides Up for Auction
Cars for a Cause: Two Earnhardt Rides Up for Auction

Later this month, two cars with ties to Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be auctioned off at Barrett Jackson.

One is a No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS that was raced at Phoenix, Richmond and Bristol. The other is a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS designed by Earnhardt.

And the most important factor? All proceeds from both sales will benefit Nationwide Children's Hospital.

"The great thing about the auction of this race car and the Chevelle is that Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports and Nationwide have teamed up to raise money for the Nationwide Children's Hospital," Earnhardt said.

Through the @Nationwide88 Twitter account, a series of videos is being released leading up to the auction.

In one, Earnhardt explains what makes the Chevelle so unique.

As proud as he is of the cars that will head to auction, the part that has Earnhardt the most excited is that Nationwide Children's Hospital is the beneficiary.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity every year to find new ways for us to help raise money for the hospital," he said, "and this is going to bring in a lot of great funds for them."

The cars will hit the Barrett-Jackson block on Jan. 21 at the 2017 Scottsdale Auction. It will be broadcast on Velocity.

Barrett-Jackson - duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition Audi R8 Performance PKG7

Barrett-Jackson - duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition Audi R8 Performance PKG7

Tom duPont and Craig Jackson will be in Attendance

Barrett-Jackson - duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition Audi R8 Performance PKG7

As you probably figured out from the last post; NASCAR Race Mom is back at the excitement of the Barrett-Jackson. This time, the prestigious event is taking place in the glitter and glam of Las Vegas. Day one proved exhilarating with today promising even more remarkable.

Specializing in providing products and services to collector car owners, astute collectors and automotive enthusiasts worldwide. Barrett-Jackson produces “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions™” in Scottsdale, Palm Beach, Northeast, and Las Vegas

Stay tuned for my report after interviewing Joey Hand, the California native, who was one of the winning drivers in the 24 Hours of Le Mans!!! But before that, check out the release below regarding the Audi R8 - Smooth. Consistent. Predictable.

The car you see here is not exactly what it appears. On the surface, it’s an Audi R8- but this is no ordinary R8. Instead, it’s a specially-built, twin-turbocharged Audi R8 that is more than capable of holding its own against the latest generation of million-dollar exotics by just about every measure of objective performance. More than that, though- this is the first ever example of an ultra-limited run of duPont REGISTRY-branded ultra-luxury cars that are meant to represent the current state of the art of bespoke supercar manufacturing.

“This is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this,” says Will Chapman, VP and Director of Special Projects at the world-famous duPont REGISTRY media brand that’s best-known for showcasing premium automobiles as well as fine luxury homes and yachts. “We’ve always distinguished ourselves by simply presenting products to buyers without distractions. It’s just been the buyer and the seller, and we’ve simply been a vehicle, if you’ll pardon the pun, to make that interaction possible. We’ve never stepped outside of that role to point to a product and say ‘This is the one we would buy,’ and that’s very exciting.”

Fitted with upgraded hardware developed by Speedriven- a high-performance tuning firm located in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois- Audi R8s fitted with the duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition performance PKG can deliver performance that challenges the limits of credibility. A zero-to-sixty sprint, for example, can be completed in about 2 seconds. From a standing start, the car will cross the finish line at the end of a quarter mile drag strip in about nine seconds at more than one-hundred-and-fifty miles per hour- and the car is still accelerating.

“You can see how consistent the power delivery is in our dyno videos,” explains Speedriven’s Jo Borras. “The shifts happen so fast that the straps holding the car back never slacken. That just shows how effectively all of that power is getting to the ground, thanks to the drivetrain upgrades built into the duPont REGISTRY performance package. It’s a very efficient package.”

The efficiency that’s built into the Limited Edition duPont REGISTRY Audi R8 isn’t the kind of efficiency that’s built into, say, a Toyota Prius. It’s an efficiency of purpose. This is a car that’s been built to set the standard for real-world performance, and Chapman believes it’s an emphasis on drivability that sets this offering apart. We wanted to deliver an ‘extreme’ level of performance, but we wanted it to be as accessible as possible, so that a driver could get in the car and have a thrilling experience without getting in over their heads.”

To that end, the cars are shipped to Speedriven in Chicago, where the R8’s V10 engine, transmission, and magnetic ride suspension are pulled out of the chassis, and its transformation begins.

Speedriven tears down the Audi’s 5.2 liter aluminum V10 block completely before it goes into the CNC machine to be bored out and blueprinted. High-strength pearlitic cylinder sleeves reinforce the lightweight block, and all-new, forged internals go back in. Once that’s finished, the engine is ready to handle up to three times the amount of horsepower the V10 rolled out of the factory with- which is a good thing, because Speedriven has equipped the duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition Audi R8s with a pair of massive, billet-wheel, ball-bearing turbochargers that utilize the latest and greatest in compressor and turbine wheel technology to deliver a smooth, responsive power curve that may just make you forget that “turbo lag” was ever a thing.

Helping to get all the power from that beefed-up engine to each of the duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition Audi’s rear tires will be a heavily reinforced version of Audi’s own S-Tronic clutch system fitted with upgraded friction plates, steels, and heavy-duty billet aluminum clutch baskets. Those upgrades make for lightning-fast gear changes and consistent standing-start launches.

Massive power, however, calls for massive planning to make effective use of it. To that end, Speedriven has fitted the duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition Audi R8s with a custom-built set of lightweight, forged aluminum wheels with 20” rims up front, and a wide, shorter set of 18” wheels in the rear- and that staggered wheel set up is just one of the keys to this car’s mind-bending speed. “We needed to be able to get a certain amount of sidewall flex into the tires,” added Jo. “You need some flex and some softness at the rear to grip the road. There’s a lot of torque going to the front of the R8, thanks to its Quattro all-wheel drive, but with more power comes more weight transfer to the rear, so you need more and more grip to keep the launches predictable.”

“Smooth. Consistent. Predictable.” Those were the words that kept coming up when we were talking about what this car needed to be,” explains Chapman. “We didn’t want to make it too easy to drive, because when you have a car that’s too computerized the experience becomes very sterile, and that’s not a rewarding experience. What we wanted was to strike a balance, and deliver a car that the client could climb into and immediately drive it fast. You don’t have to have be a Formula 1 or IndyCar driver to get that fast 0-60 or quarter-mile time you read about in the magazine- but if you do have some talent, and you decide to dedicate some time to getting to know the car out on a racetrack, then you will be able to have that kind of ‘next level’ encounter. That’s the magic. That’s the balancing act.”

With power and performance like that, the duPont REGISTRY Limited Edition Performance PKG equipped Audi R8s will be very special cars. To ensure that their special-ness isn’t lost on the casual observer, however, each of the limited edition run of twenty-five cars will feature exclusive duPont REGISTRY badges on the outside, as well as “dR” center caps and a custom “dR” fuel filler cap machined from a solid bar of aluminum while, inside, each of these cars will carry special, laser-etched, “Limited Edition 1 of 25” dash plaques. As slick as those are, it’s what’s in the R8’s glass-covered engine bay that really grabs attention.

Topping off the race-ready, SD-built 5.2 liter engine is a bespoke, CNC-machined billet aluminum intake manifold armed with massive fuel injectors aimed directly into each of the Audi’s ten cylinders. Parked alongside a “standard” R8 with its factory-supplied plastic intake manifold, it’s immediately obvious that this duPont REGISTRY special means business. “Once the Speedriven guys made it clear that it would be necessary to change out that factory part, though, we decided to go with a billet piece instead of a sheet metal intake. It’s overkill, in a way, but it was a decision that’s very much in keeping with the rest of the car. We wanted to do the job right, and we wanted these cars to stay true to their Audi heritage. That’s all-wheel drive. That’s turbochargers. That’s aluminum. We’re putting all of that Audi racing tradition front and center here, and we’re using our tradition of showcasing the world’s finest cars in the duPont REGISTRY to bring these special cars to the attention of people who can truly appreciate what they are, and what they’re capable of.”

You can read more about the duPont REGISTRY’s prototype Limited Edition Audi R8 on the Autofluence website, and see the prototype R8 in person at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction October 13-15th.

Servicemen And Women Get “Gift Of Home” From Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s Indian Chief Vintage Motorcycle To Be Auctioned

One-of-a-Kind Bike To Be Sold at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction With All Proceeds Benefitting “Operation Ride Home,” Helping Troops Go Home For Holidays

A highly collectible Jack Daniel’s Indian Chief Vintage Motorcycle will be auctioned October 15th at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction with all proceeds going to Jack Daniel’s “Operation Ride Home” program that assists service members and their families travel from base to home during the holidays.

Servicemen And Women Get “Gift Of Home” From Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s Indian Chief Vintage Motorcycle To Be Auctioned

The bike selling at auction is #1 of 150 individually numbered motorcycles – the first-ever production vehicles to feature the Jack Daniel’s livery – in honor of the distillery’s 150th anniversary. The extremely rare commemorative production run of the Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s® Indian® Springfield™ and Indian® Chief® Vintage motorcycle models sold the remaining units in just one day. The #1 bike is the last available and arguably the most valuable. .

“This motorcycle is so special not only because it’s #1 from this rare production run, but also because all of the proceeds from its sale will go to help our heroes and their families make it from their base to home this holiday season,” said Jeff Arnett, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller. “All of us at the distillery honor our military men and women, and we’re so proud to join with our friends at the Armed Services YMCA, Indian Motorcycle and Klock Werks in this effort to give back to those who have given so much.” .

Since Operation Ride Home began six years ago, 2,083 junior enlisted single service members and those with families – for a total of 4,606 people – have travelled from their bases to homes around the country for the holidays. Through the ASYMCA and military commands, service members and families are identified who most need financial assistance for travel and are provided airplane tickets and pre-paid debit cards for gas and lodging for those families who are driving. In addition to Jack Daniel’s annual $100,000 contribution, friends are asked to visit www.jdoperationridehome.com to do what they can to help out. .

“There are so many junior enlisted service members and families who want to go home for the holidays but just don’t have the financial means to make the trip,” said William French, President and CEO of the ASYMCA. “We’re proud that we’ve been able to help so many through Operation Ride Home, but for every family we have been able to help, there are 10 families waiting. We thank our friends at Indian Motorcycle for joining us to raise additional funds and help give the gift of home this holiday season.” .

Designed in conjunction with Klock Werks, the Limited Edition Jack Daniel’s Indian Springfield and Chief Vintage models both feature an array of genuine Indian Motorcycle accessories and custom accessories, as well as Jack Daniel’s-inspired custom paint and logos, badging, leather saddle and saddlebags. .

“Being the guy tapped to combine two great brands in Indian Motorcycle and Jack Daniel’s – especially for such an important build as the first time the distillery’s brand has been on any motor vehicle is huge for me!” says Brian Klock or Klock Werks in Mitchell, SD. “Bringing in elements from Jack Daniel’s history, as well as the important ‘Bottles and Throttles Don’t Mix’ responsibility message, was a welcome challenge. It’s an honor to be part of this program, and to see the #1 bike being auctioned for such a worthy cause really fills me with pride.” .

Each fender of the bikes are inscribed with the names of the seven Master Distillers who have overseen the Jack Daniel’s distilling process over its 150-year history, and an inscription of Jack Daniel’s “Bottles and Throttles Don’t Mix” mantra reminds riders that drinking and riding are meant to be enjoyed separately. Both models also come with a custom-printed Jack Daniel’s whiskey barrel top to commemorate each bike, a two-year unlimited mileage factory warranty and free membership in the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group™ for one year. .

The 50th Anniversary Hertz Ford Shelby GT-H

Aaron Shelby, Carroll's grandson discusses this year’s 50th Anniversary Hertz Ford Shelby GT-H.

Carroll Shelby’s Grandson Helps Raise $150,000 for Foundation

Prototype GT-H Auctioned Off to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation.

Prototype GT-H Auctioned Off to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation.

It is obvious that Aaron Shelby has a close and very personal connection to the 2016 Shelby GT-H Mustang Concept/Prototype that sold at the Northeast Barrett-Jackson auction last month. Aaron is a grandson of the great Carroll Hall Shelby (January 11, 1923 – May 10, 2012), an American Automotive Designer, Racing Driver, Entrepreneur, and Legend.

Aaron, the Executive Vice President of Commercial Lending, also operates as the Subsidiary Manager overseeing LegacyTexas Insurance, LegacyTexas Title and the LegacyTexas Mortgage.

In addition to banking, he works in the Shelby family's timber business, and is on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Children's Theater. He is also the co-president of the Carroll Shelby Foundation; and if that were not enough, Aaron is the official liaison between Shelby and Ford.

The 50th Anniversary Hertz Ford Shelby GT-H (Aaron Shelby with NRM)
Shelby is a very busy man. That is why this race fanatic was thrilled and honored when he took time to allow me to interview him.

Aaron was at the Barrett-Jackson auction to assist with the sale of that Ford Shelby GT-H which raised $150,000. All the proceeds will benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation.

The Carroll Shelby Foundation:

  •  Helps kids battle life-threatening illnesses
  • Supports organizations that provide medical assistance
  • Funds scholarships in automotive education
  • Supports educational programs in automotive and related fields

In case you have not heard the exciting news . . . this year, Hertz purchased  Ford Shelby GT-H, V8 powered Mustangs, from Ford Motor Company as a tribute to the original 1966 Rent-A-Racer program. The cars were then shipped to Shelby American. There, Shelby added extra performance and style then returned them to Hertz, who wishes to give the public access to a unique driving experience.

“We rolled the car out in March in New York,” Aaron Shelby explained. “They were at the Hertz Location at the end of May.” We built the original in 1966 and they proved very popular. We then did a 40th Anniversary model in the ’06-time frame. Those went very well also.”

The 2016 Shelby GT-H on the Barrett-Jackson Auction Block
The 2016 Shelby GT-H on the
Barrett-Jackson Auction Block
This year’s 50th Anniversary Ford Shelby GT-H has a powerful 5.0L V8 engine with 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-foot of torque, equipped with a Ford Performance cat-back touring exhaust with chrome tips for a deeper muscle car sound. To put all of the horsepower to the ground, the Ford Shelby GT-H also comes with the Ford Racing Handling Pack, including special-tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a staggered wheel kit. The Shelby GT-H rides on 19-inch aluminum wheels wearing high-performance Michelin rubber.

It is outfitted in the classic black and gold with black exterior paint, set off with gold racing stripes, a hallmark of Hertz vehicles dating back to the 1920s. Shelby's traditional "Le Mans" dual racing stripes are combined with a set of rocker stripes that include special "Shelby GT-H" nomenclature.

The 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H is also fitted with a unique Shelby-designed vented hood, carbon fiber front splitter and rear spoiler. Special badges appear in the front grille, rear faux gas cap and trunk lid. Inside, logos are on the head restraint, sill plates and floor mats. I can corroborate to the fact that this car is a beauty!

Fortuitously, Aaron Shelby and NASCAR Race Mom did not only talk shop. We had a great discussion as to the distinctive dynamics of working for family.

With a chuckle Aaron remarked, “Getting up late is not me. My grandfather taught me not to be afraid to fail. He probably succeeded in only one of every twenty things he did. He had no problem getting up in the morning and stating I am going to make this blue piece of metal today, if it works it works . . . if not I might make a red one tomorrow. The fact that ‘You have to keep trying’ is the biggest thing that he instilled in me.

My grandfather was an idea guy. He was well read and well rounded. However, he was my grandfather first. He would show up at the house with ice cream or take us all on a boat ride. It was not till the mid-eighties, when he was on the cover of Autoweek and also Car & Driver that I realized who and what he was.”

NASCAR Race Mom can corroborate to the fact that this car is a beauty!

NASCAR Race Mom was very impressed with the genuineness and generosity displayed by the personable Aaron Shelby. I will keep my fingers crossed that the opportunity to rent a 2016 Shelby GT-H Mustang from the Hertz Adrenaline Collection arises soon.

Advance Auto Parts Will Be Partnered with Barrett-Jackson For At Least Three Years!!!

Will Participate in The West Palm Beach
and The Northeast Auctions Through At Least 2018!

NASCAR Race Mom (NRM) just got back from the Connecticut Barrett-Jackson Auction held last weekend. The weather was perfect and there was so much to see and do. The crowds were intimidating however.

One super positive of the travel weekend was the fact that NRM was able to connect with the Advanced Auto Part people. Just in case you are not familiar with Advance Auto Parts – it was founded in 1932 and is a leader in the automotive aftermarket industry, with parts for most all vehicles, repairs, maintenance jobs and projects, plus a variety of free services.

It was great to learn that they and Barrett-Jackson have entered into a three-year partnership.

We partnered with Barrett-Jackson last year at the West Palm Beach auction as part of our outreach to car collectors and had such a great experience meeting folks who are so passionate about collecting cars, and about their everyday drive. Matt Davis, Advance Auto Parts Marketing and Sponsorship Manager explained.

We were really excited when the opportunity arose to re-visit West Palm Beach, and to participate in the inaugural Barrett-Jackson event in the northeast. This region is important to Advance, and we wanted to meet current and new customers at this great event.

So now we’ll be at both the West Palm Beach and the Northeast auctions through at least 2018! At these events, collectors will have the opportunity to visit our Advance Auto Parts REV IT UP! Tour RV. They’ll be car games, prizes, giveaways, and special opportunities like we had at this event where people got to meet celebrities and well known car collectors like All Pro Greg Olsen, courtesy of Advance. He took some time to visit the RV and meet some of the attendees before auctioning his ’69 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible to benefit his charity. It was a great time with an awesome turnout. It just adds more excitement to an event that is already fueled with energy.

As a devoted sweepstakes/contest participant, NASCAR Race Mom entered the recent Krystal & Advance Auto Parts - Fuel NASCAR Sweepstakes almost daily. It was a fun sweepstakes, therefore, I asked Mr. Davis if Advance Auto Parts would be hosting any promotions in the near future.

Yes! We have opportunities throughout the year for car lovers to win great prizes. This fall we’ll be partnering with Valvoline and Rain-X to give away great race experiences to the NASCAR season finale at Homestead. And, customers who are members of our Speed Perks loyalty program can also be big winners this fall when we team up with Castrol for a chance to win one of 50 NFL signed footballs. Folks can sign up for Speed Perks at Speedperks.com https://www.speedperks.com/#/landing or any Advance Auto Parts store, and we’ll be sharing details on our website and social media channels.

You can bet that NASCAR Race Mom visited SpeedPerks and signed up right away. It took less than two minutes. It would be a super thrill to win a Race Experience at Homestead. One of the fifty NFL Signed Footballs would also be a great prize.

The Carroll Shelby Foundation to Auction One-of-One 50th Anniversary Shelby GT-H Prototype

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Ford, Hertz and Shelby American car, the trio collaborated to launch the 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H.

The prototype of this limited-edition muscle car will be auctioned at Barrett Jackson Northeast  to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation.

With Aaron Shelby, grandson of the legendary Carroll Shelby on stage, Barrett-Jackson will auction the 50th anniversary Shelby GT-H (CSM160001C) concept and prototype car (Lot # 3003) for the Carroll Shelby Foundation  at No Reserve during the inaugural Northeast Auction in Uncasville, Connecticut.

At approximately 5:30 PM EST on June 24, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions® will continue its tradition of raising money for charity by offering vehicles rarely available to the public.

“Barrett-Jackson has sold more concepts, prototypes and serial number one cars for automakers than any other auction house in the world,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Car manufacturers bring these vehicles to Barrett-Jackson because we attract the most passionate, most dedicated collectors and enthusiasts in the world. Carroll Shelby was a close friend and a fixture at our events. We’re pleased to help raise money for Carroll’s charity by giving someone the opportunity to own this very special car.”

Based on the new-generation Ford Mustang, the stunning black and gold Shelby GT-H prototype debuted on the wall of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center during the 2016 New York Auto Show. This unique piece of history is the first of only 170 total 2016 model-year Shelby GT-H coupes to be built.

Instantly recognizable, the Shelby GT-H comes in a muscular package with a performance-ready 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to a smooth 6-speed automatic. Sharpening the suspension, the Shelby has Ford Performance special-tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a staggered wheel kit for the 19" aluminum wheels shod with high-performance Michelin tires.

The car has a ferocious special exhaust, badges and interior trim only available on the Shelby GT-H.

The Carroll Shelby Foundation is dedicated to providing medical assistance and educational opportunities for children and young adults.

“Shelby and Barrett-Jackson have enjoyed a deep, strong relationship for decades,” said Aaron Shelby, co-President of the Carroll Shelby Foundation and board member of Carroll Shelby International. “Together we raised around $1.4 million dollars over the past 10 years for the charity that my grandfather founded, unveiled new vehicles and even created an exclusive Barrett-Jackson edition Shelby GT in 2008. I’m pleased the Carroll Shelby Foundation will sell this very rare car, which served as both the concept and prototype for the 50th anniversary Ford Shelby GT-H. It’s the perfect time, place and partner for the sale.”

Barrett Jackson Auction
West Palm Beach, Florida

Auction Sales Exceed $23.2 Million

Barrett Jackson Auction, West Palm Beach, Florida - the attendance surged to over 65,000

As the Grand Prize Winner of the 2016 CRAFTSMAN Barrett-Jackson Auction Trips Sweepstakes, we will be attending all the 2016 events.

The second Barrett Jackson auction of the 2016 schedule was held on April 8-10 at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach, FL. Although this is the only collectors’ car auction on the East Coast, this auction was much smaller than the Scottsdale, Arizona event. However, that is to be expected considering that Barrett Jackson is headquartered in Scottsdale.

Nevertheless, there was still plenty to see and do. I complained about the security staff at the first auction (in Scottsdale). Therefore I must first communicate how much friendlier and more helpful all the staff were here in Florida. We were treated with kindness and respect everywhere we went. They even provided a free shuttle service from the parking lot to the gate.

The Barrett Jackson Auctions offers so much more than just remarkable automobiles for sale. Don’t get me wrong, you could have wandered the Florida Fairgrounds acreage and spend most of the day admiring the over seven hundred extraordinary vehicles on display.

However, there are also lots of merchants and an Automobilia Auction that will capture your imagination and empty your wallet!!! The Automobilia top seller was an extremely rare 1935 Wayne model 40 showcase gas pump restored in Mobil Oil regalia. It sold for $23,500; just a tad outside of our budget.

Also Movie Star William Shatner and Country Music Legend Zac Brown were in attendance to bring star power to event – however, I did not see either.

On the other hand, we did locate a ride and drive opportunity that was on site. After we signed the release forms and blew into a breathalyzer; we enjoyed the Ford Fan Experience with a ride in both the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R and the 2016 Ford Focus RS.

Barrett Jackson, West Palm Beach, Florida - Wow; what a wild ride the Fords provided

Wow - what a wild ride the Fords provided. Look at the smile on my face after a hot lap in the 2016 Ford Focus RS. The acceleration and handling were both amazing.

I really enjoyed talking to Matt at the SimCraft display. We discussed how SimCraft has helped racers like Simon Pagenaud with their race competition prep.

An Amphicar 770 at the Barrett Jackson, West Palm Beach, Florida

My favorite auction car was the Amphicar 770. While I had heard about this car, I had never seen one. Fully restored, this Amphicar boasted it was ready to be enjoyed on both the open road and water! While you would not win any speed contests, Amphicars have crossed the English Channel in twenty foot seas!

Camping World Truck Racer, Cameron Hayley and NASCAR Race Mom at the Barrett Jackson Auction, West Palm Beach, Florida

Of course, you know that I would look for anything NASCAR. I stumbled onto Camping World Truck Racer, Cameron Hayley as he manned his father’s ‘Cabinets By Hayley’ display.

Barrett Jackson Auction, West Palm Beach, Florida - 1996 Brickyard 500 Pace Car

Here I am in front of the 1996 Brickyard 500 Pace Car. Jeff Gordon won the pole position for the race, while Dale Jarrett won. What a great piece of NASCAR ephemeras.

Over $23.2 million in sales were generated during the three days of the auction and the attendance surged to over 65,000. There was so much to see and do and learn.

NASCAR Race Mom learned that Barrett-Jackson waives all fees on vehicles auctioned for charity. This means that one hundred percent of the hammer price goes directly to the philanthropic organizations! A total of $1,050,000 was raised for charity in West Palm Beach. Way to Be Barrett Jackson – See you in Connecticut*.

*Barrett-Jackson will host its inaugural Northeast Auction at Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino on June 23-25, 2016.

Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Pros Greatly Outweigh The Cons

The first thing we noticed about this world famous automotive auction is the vastness of the event acreage; nearly a million square feet of the auction site is under cover. Unfortunately, the second thing you are introduced to is the rudeness of the show staff. It started before we even step onto the Barrett-Jackson area.

We were greeted by the most unprofessional security personnel ever. They were overworked and hassled and not shy about expressing their frustration in words and actions. I was ordered to separate from my husband because Paul had a backpack and I did not have a bag. The gentleman overseeing the procedure hurried back and forth making disingenuous statements like, “I am only saying this because this is what I am told to say.” He really did not make much sense. The staff and exhibitors were not much better inside.

Not to make their excuses for them; however, we picked a bad day to attend. Saturday was Cox Charities Family Value Day and children, twelve and under, were granted free access. There was also a two-for-one entry with your current Cox bill promotion. The crowds were enormous.

All that being said, the Barrett-Jackson Auction is definitely worth the price of admission ($75 for the day). We walked over four miles. Everywhere we looked was adorned by beautiful classic cars. It was hard to remember not to touch them.

There was also tons of automobilia (automotive-related memorabilia) to tempt your wallet. Nonetheless, as if over 1,500 cars and 1,400 automobilia items on display was not enough, there were also more than 200 non-automotive vendors and interactive exhibits.

It appear to me that it was Barrett-Jackson’s attempt to make the show more wife/girlfriend friendly. You could purchase high-end alligator boots, deer antler wine stoppers, a hot tub, jewelry, women’s clothing, fishing trip, and/or sign up for Direct Television. However, we do not recommend stopping at the later because that Direct TV salesman was pretty pushy.

There was also wide variety of food and adult beverage stations from which to choose your nourishment. I opted for vegan sobe noodles (noodles made from buckwheat flour) that were stir fried perfectly and filled with vegetables. Paul enjoyed a strawberry banana smoothie for lunch.

Of course I had to try a new whiskey. After an informative Jack Daniels tour, I bought a shot of Single Barrel Select. The amber liquid was very strong with a weighty vanilla accent. While it burned a bit on the way down, I liked it.

On to the auction; I had my eye on Steve McQueen's 1952 Chevrolet Pickup Camper. The 3800 pickup was purchased by McQueen from a migrant farmer he passed on the side of the road in 1979. The Forest Green, one-ton features a 235 cu in Loadmaster six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission and a custom aluminum “Dust Tite” camper in the bed. A certificate of authenticity from McQueen’s estate is also included. I was surprised when it sold for a mere $55,000!!!

However the highlight of my Barret-Jackson experience was the opportunity to chat with the legendary Bob Bondurant. While recuperating from a serious racing injury, Bondurant drafted an idea for a high performance driving school borrowing from the experiences he had while training James Garner for Grand Prix. The man turned his lemons into an empire!!! The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving opened in 1968 at Orange County International Raceway. It is still going strong in Chandler, Arizona.

My son Moses is the manufacturer of the Formula Mazda racecar. The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving uses these cars in their Master’s Race Series. Yup, I am a proud mama.

Overall, I would rate our experience at the Scottsdale, Arizona Barrett-Jackson an eight out of ten. The cons (large crowds, rude staff, and carnival atmosphere) were dimmed by the pros (awesome cars, large food selection, plenty of restrooms, ample seating areas to rest). I cannot wait to compare the Scottsdale auction to the next one to be held in Palmdale, Florida this April.

Oma was announced as the Grand Prize Winner of the 2016 CRAFTSMAN Barrett-Jackson Auction Trips Sweepstakes!!!!!

NASCAR Race Mom started 2016 with a great phone call. The nice lady on the other end, Linda explained that I was the grand prize winner of the 2016 CRAFTSMAN Barrett-Jackson Auction Trips Sweepstakes!!!!!. I had won not one; not two; not three; but four wonderful trips to enjoy Barrett Jackson Auctions to be held in different states!!!

The contest ended on December 27th 2015 and I remember entering daily. In order to enter, you had to be a member of the Craftsman Club.

The first auction trip is to Scottsdale, Arizona (between January 29 and 31, 2016); the second auction trip is in Palm Beach, Florida (between April 8 and 10, 2016); the third auction trip is in Las Vegas, Nevada (between September 24 and 26, 2016) and there will be one more city and date, which is to be determined. Hubby and I are hoping that the fourth trip will be the Connecticut event in June!!!

I love entering contest and has won a few wonderful prizes. However, this sweepstakes for four trips is one of the best wins.
