Truck Series Crew Chief Eddie Troconis Re-Suspended

Truck Series Crew Chief Eddie Troconis Re-Suspended

NASCAR Crew Chief Indefinitely Suspended After Re-arrest

Eddie Troconis, the crew chief on Young’s Motorsports’ No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado, was originally arrested on Jan. 5 and charged with felony second degree assault charges following a confrontation with NASCAR spotter Clayton Hughes. The incident took place at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Oct. 2 of last year.

The charge was dropped by a prosecutor in February and Troconis’ suspension was then lifted.

However, the charge was reinstated this month and Troconis, whose legal name is Carlos Eduardo Trocon Ortiz, aged 42, was arrested by the Talladega (Ala.) County Sheriff’s department. The arrest took place on March 18.

According to court records, a $7500 secured bond was set for Troconis.

Troconis has been a crew chief at the national level of the sport since 2012, serving atop the pit box in 20 Xfinity Series races and 144 Truck Series races. He has won twice, both with Ben Rhodes, while working with ThorSport in 2017 and 2018.

He's been paired with several drivers throughout the years including notable Cup names such as race winners Christopher Bell and Bubba Wallace, as well as former NXS champion Daniel Suarez.

This year, he's worked with both Kaz Grala and Jesse Little in the No. 02 truck.

Busch Light’s “Accelerate Her” #NASCAR Program

In racing, sponsorship is not just the key to success, but what it takes to even get a spot on the track. That's why Busch Light is making a first-of-its-kind commitment to sponsor every woman driver (21+) in NASCAR today–and for years to come. Through the Busch Light Accelerate Her program, we're promising to provide access to more track time, more media exposure and more training for up-and-coming talent.

Every driver will receive a direct sponsorship grant from Busch Light, but that’s not all. We’ve redirected 25% of our yearly NASCAR budget to solely support marketing resources and brand support for our women drivers.

We’re committed to paving a lane for women on and off the track, and the Busch Light Accelerate Her program is our first step towards a future with more women drivers.

NASCAR officials announced Friday that veteran crew chief Eddie Troconis has been reinstated.

Eddie Troconis, was arrested after he turned himself in to the Talladega County Sheriff’s Deputies Office on Wednesday, January 5th, after an arrest warrant was issued on December 21st on felony second degree assault charges following a confrontation with former NASCAR Cup Series championship spotter Clayton Hughes at Talladega Superspeedway on October 2nd.

According to a report from AnnistonStar.com, which was the first report of Ortiz’s arrest, Talladega Chief Deputy Josh Tubbs states the incident that led to Ortiz’s arrest began with an argument over a woman (rumored to be estranged wife, racer Jennifer Jo Cobb). Eddie and Jennifer married in 2015.

Tubbs also says, in the report, that Ortiz is accused of “sucker punching” Hughes in the back of the neck to knock him down and then proceeding to kick the victim in the back several times.

Troconis was suspended Oct. 6 after the race weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Yesterday’s NASCAR announcement indicated that Troconis is eligible to return to all NASCAR activity.

Troconis’ NASCAR membership was suspended after a violation of Section 12.8.1.c in the 2021 NASCAR Rule Book. Officials did not list specifics about the violation but confirmed that the infraction did not stem from a competition-related or on-track incident.

That means that the violation fell under the rule book’s headings of either:

  • • Physical confrontation with a NASCAR Official, media members, fans, etc.
  • • Member-to-Member confrontation(s) with physical violence and other violent manifestations such as significant threat(s) and/or abuse and/or endangerment.

Troconis was on the pit box last year for 17 races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and 20 races in the Camping World Truck Series. He was serving as crew chief for Young’s Motorsports’ No. 02 team and driver Kris Wright at the time of the Talladega incident.

Troconis has two Camping World Truck Series wins in his career, both coming while teamed up with ThorSport Racing and driver Ben Rhodes from 2017-18.

The truck series is scheduled to return to the track at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, February 18th.

Spotter Clayton Hughes suffered severe injuries and is still undergoing extensive physical rehabilitation after several surgeries and is in the process of learning to walk again.

NASCAR Race Mom extends best wishes for a complete recovery.

NASCAR Driver Jennifer Jo Cobb Celebrating 25th Year In Motorsports

Two Female Military Veterans Will Be Honored

#NASCAR Driver Jennifer Jo Cobb Celebrating 25th Year In Motorsports

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Jennifer Jo Cobb is celebrating her 25th year in motorsports. The Kansas City native is entered in Saturday’s NASCAR Drivin’ For Linemen 200 Brought To You By Altec at Gateway Motorsports Park and will honor female military veterans at the event.

Cobb, driver of the No. 1 Driven2Honor Chevrolet,  is one of only two females to compete consistently full-time in NASCAR’s big leagues and  — even more uniquely so — is a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team owner. The race at GMP will mark her 123rd start in the series.

Cobb is the founder of Driven2Honor (www.driven2honor.com), a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring women who serve in the U.S. military. Prime, Inc., a Springfield, Missouri trucking company hosted a fundraiser through it’s “Prime Highway Diamonds,” an organization comprised of a group of the company’s female truck drivers.  This weekend Driven2Honor will honor Tammy Campbell and Tiffany Hanna, two Prime, Inc. professional truck drivers who served in the military.

“No matter what kind of a race we run each week I feel like we have accomplished something great when we see the smiles of our Driven2Honor honorees,” said Cobb.

“I love racing at Gateway because it is so close to home and allows us to invite some of our Kansas City sponsors and friends to enjoy time with us in the St. Louis area.  Staying at the luxurious Parkway Hotel is a bonus for our team who keeps a pretty hectic schedule traveling across the country to race more than 23 times a year.”

Cobb’s six-year partnership with Mark One Electric of Kansas City includes their participation at GMP. Mark One Electric was instrumental in securing a hotel sponsor for Cobb and the team has stayed at the Parkway Hotel each year since the track re-opened.  Cobb will host a meet-and-greet for her fans at The Parkway Hotel,  4550 Forest Park Avenue in St. Louis on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

In her 25 years of racing, Cobb has many notable accomplishments in the NASCAR Truck Series, including highest-finishing female driver, (6th, Daytona), highest female points finisher (17th in 2010 and 16th in 2014) and the woman with the most starts in the series (117). In 2016 Jennifer is running a full Truck season and also select races in NASCAR’s XFINITY Series. Between race events, Jennifer makes appearances for her sponsors, is a public speaker and runs the daily operations of her racing businesses.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Drivin’ For Linemen 200 Brought To You By Altec will be joined by the Illinois Lottery Presents ARCA Midwest 50 and the Vatterott College Silver Crown Showdown for USAC open-wheel racers. Spectator gates will open at 8 a.m. with the NASCAR race slated for 7:30 p.m. The inaugural Climbin’ For Linemen competition will start at 9 a.m. in the speedway’s infield.
