Journey to 2026 Title Begins for JR Motorsports

Now that the calendar has flipped and the racing season is a little more than a month away, JR Motorsports is ready to start its ‘Drive for Five’.

After winning NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series titles in 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2024, the drive for another championship is set to start on Feb. 14 at Daytona International Speedway with a new lineup and a thirst for victory champagne.

Justin Allgaier, the 2024 series champion and the veteran presence in the lineup, returns for a shot at another title, while young guns Carson Kvapil, Sammy Smith and Rajah Caruth will seek their first.

Allgaier, who made the first-and soon to be second-NASCAR Cup Series start for JRM last year in the Daytona 500, will make a return visit to the World Center of Speed next month, seeking to better an impressive ninth-place finish. Traveller Whiskey will be on the No. 40 again this year, with country music superstar Chris Stapleton

Create Special Garden in Honor of Brenda Jackson

Unilever, The Dale Jr. Foundation Donate to Help FeedNC

Yesterday on Unilever’s National Day of Service, the Earnhardt family and The Dale Jr. Foundation combined with longtime partner Unilever to help establish Mimi’s Garden in honor of Brenda Jackson, mother of both Kelley Earnhardt Miller and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who passed away in 2019 following a battle with cancer. As part of the effort, a $300,000 donation to FeedNC, a food-focused resource that seeks to end the cycle of hunger and poverty with extensive programs and opportunities for those in need, was made earlier today by Earnhardt Jr. and wife Amy.

Mimi’s Garden will be created as part of FeedNC’s expansion to a new location in Mooresville, not far from the JR Motorsports facility. The non-profit organization, which provides meals and food supplies to those who would otherwise go hungry, has outgrown its current location. A new 26,775-square-foot facility will be built on an 8.54-acre site and will include space for classrooms, parking, an in-house event space and a café, as well as other amenities. Mimi’s Garden, named for the matriarch of the Earnhardt family, will be included at the site.

“The opportunity to support FeedNC with this donation, alongside Unilever and The Dale Jr. Foundation is special to our family,” said Earnhardt Miller. “The garden we’re establishing in Brenda’s honor would mean a lot to her and is a great way to extend our mother’s legacy.

“FeedNC is a needed resource for many people, and being able to support them in their mission makes a big difference. We’re proud to join with Unilever on its National Day of Service to provide hope for the future.”

In addition to contributions from Earnhardt Jr. and wife Amy, Earnhardt Miller and husband L.W. Miller and Jackson’s husband Willie, Unilever will donate as part of its National Day of Service. The Dale Jr. Foundation has made a contribution as well.

The National Day of Service will also see Unilever sharing joy at select vaccination sites around the country by delivering summer treats like Klondike Bars and Popsicles to newly vaccinated people, site workers and volunteers at selected sites in New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Memphis, Dallas-Fort Worth and Phoenix. The event is the second annual National Day of Service from Unilever, a national volunteering effort designed to give back to communities most impacted by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. In conjunction with its 2020 National Day of Service, the company will donate $25 million in goods and services towards relief to bring the total donation over the two years to $50 million.

“Our second annual Day of Service is an opportunity for Unilever U.S. to use its size and scale as a catalyst to do good,” said Terry Thomas, EVP Customer Development US at Unilever. “There is still so much to be done to help people still feeling the impacts of the pandemic, and we are grateful to our partners like JR Motorsports and the Earnhardts that are making an impact alongside us and showing the country that together we can do so much good.”

NASCAR legends Tony Stewart, Darrell Waltrip and Bill Elliott, current NASCAR superstar Ryan Newman, WWE wrestling champion Bill Goldberg, Kelley Earnhardt, sister of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-owner of JR Motorsport, former MillerCoors Chairman Pete Coors, and Bass Pro Shops Founder Johnny Morris are among the high-profile athletes, celebrities, business titans and philanthropists who are spending part of their regular day in a wheelchair as part of the Darrell Gwynn Wheelchair Challenge. The challenge, benefitting the Darrell Gwynn Chapter of The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, is the brainchild of Darrell Gwynn, the legendary drag racing champion who was paralyzed in a practice run 30 years ago, as a way to commemorate the 30th anniversary of both his accident and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month in September.

The Wheelchair Challenge asks participants to sit in the “Hot Seat” and experience a day in the life of someone who is wheelchair bound. Each of the first group of nearly two dozen participants has agreed to donate a minimum of $10,000 to the cause, which is an initiative of the Darrell Gwynn Chapter of the Buoniconti Fund, and then challenge family members, friends, colleagues, and business associates to do the same.

All participants will document their experiences on video with the hashtags #DGWheelchairChallenge #StandUpForThoseWhoCant #TheMiamiProject #SCIAwarenessMonth #ADA30, as well as tag the organization hosting the challenge:

“The Wheelchair Challenge is a unique way to honor the 30th Anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act and National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, while raising funds to help find a cure for paralysis,” said Darrell Gwynn. “When some of my close friends asked me how to also commemorate the 30th anniversary of my accident, I said to them, “how about sitting in the hot seat...how about spending some time in a wheelchair so that you might get a glimpse of what those of us in wheelchairs deal with day to day, while also providing support so that someday others with spinal cord injuries will be able to get out of their chairs and walk again.

Everyone I asked immediately said, Yes!”

Added Marc Buoniconti, president of the Buoniconti Fund who was, himself, paralyzed in a college football game 35 years ago, “The idea is to convey how it feels to lose, temporarily, a key function nearly everyone takes for granted – mobility and get the public at large to understand the challenges we face on a daily basis. This has been my reality for 35 years and Darrell’s for more than 30 years, and millions of others around the world live it daily. It is our hope that this effort will get people to understand a little bit more about the challenges millions face each day.”

Considered one of the 50 greatest racers of all-time, Darrell Gwynn was a world champion drag racer in the 1980s before his devastating practice run accident resulted in his paralysis. Ironically, Darrell was an early Miami Project supporter, even before his paralyzing injury. He proudly displayed the Miami Project logo on his car and donated a portion of his winnings after each race. In 2015, he formally joined the team and began to focus all his efforts into his role as the Director of the Darrell Gwynn Quality of Life Chapter of the Buoniconti Fund.

The Buoniconti Fund is the fundraising arm of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. Based in the Lois Pope LIFE Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, the fund was created by the now late Hall of Fame football player Nick Buoniconti after Marc’s accident to raise funds to find a cure and to provide cutting-edge treatments for spinal cord injuries.

9 Lessons to Win in Business and in Life

Drive by Kelley Earnhardt Miller / 9 Lessons to Win in Business and in Life

In Drive, Kelley Earnhardt Miller, daughter of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and sister to Dale Jr., opens up about growing up in the world of NASCAR, sharing the lessons she learned about being a successful business leader and what she discovered, often the hard way, about winning in life.

Kelley and brother Dale Jr. flank 2017 Xfinity Series Champion William Byron

Immediately I realized that what she had written was more than a detailed guide to success in business and in life. It was also a glimpse into the childhood that created some challenges for her. Frankly, I was surprised by Kelley’s honesty and transparency. But it filled me with pride and made me even more excited about what you, the reader, would learn. A sampling of the book’s forward by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Drive offers nine important lessons learned about winning in business and in life, given not as a formula for greatness but as insight from a fellow traveler on a journey that is sometimes difficult, painful, unexpected, or confusing and sometimes exhilarating and joyful:
  • • Be Authentic and Approachable
  • • Manage Your Emotions
  • • Succeed Using Strengths
  • • Let Go to Move Forward
  • • Customize Your Communication
  • • Know How to Make Decisions
  • • Aim for the Win-Win • Show Kindness
  • • Live a Balanced Life

This writer found Drive a very easy and enjoyable read. The fact that it proved inspirational in both one’s personal and business identities was a terrific bonus.

Now as a NASCAR Nut, Ms. Earnhardt Miller’s insight into the persona of her father, the legendary ‘#3 Intimidator’ (Dale Earnhardt Sr.) was priceless to me.

Further, NRM is still in awe at Kelley’s ability to describe the negative segment of her relationship with her stepmother without uttering derogatory words; a talent I will struggle to attain.

In this especially challenging time (Covid-19 Crisis), NASCAR fan or not, readers will benefit from this book’s Win-Win way of life. You are bound to discover how to make better decisions in all your undertakings.

Kelley Earnhardt Miller

My advice during the COVID 19 crisis for NASCAR business and families is to first stay home to stay healthy. I will admit the first week being home during this crisis was extremely emotional for me. The fears of the unknown certainly got the best of me.

After a few weeks with more and more information coming together, finding ways to do business virtually and still accomplish what we need to accomplish and spending time with my family has given me new perspective on how we can get through this. It takes self-talk and patience, which are hard to come by as an Earnhardt, but everyday a little more comfort comes.

For our business, staying in touch with our management groups and our employee base has been key. They need to hear from me, from their supervisors so that we maintain a sense of normal communication and that they aren’t forgotten during these tough times. It’s so easy to see people at your place of work and feel that’s enough, but when you aren’t seeing them, we need to talk to them.

We’ve kept weekly updates by email to our employees and a text group of managers to help communicate information. Being transparent with where we are and what we are working on to help them through these tough times and sustain our business until we get back racing. Meanwhile, our employees can enjoy the time with their families which is something they don’t get during our hectic race schedule throughout the year!
