Clauson Organ Recipients To Serve as Driven2SaveLives BC39 Grand Marshals

The inaugural Driven2SaveLives BC39 presented by NOS Energy Drink will have a fitting pair of honorary race starters in a celebration of the life and legacy of late race car driver and event namesake Bryan Clauson.

Dan Alexander and Dan Gerdes, two Nebraska residents who received life-saving organ donations from Clauson, will serve as grand marshals of the event and wave the green flag on the 39-lap USAC P1 Insurance National Midget Championship feature Thursday, Sept. 6 at The Dirt Track at IMS.

The race on the new, quarter-mile clay oval inside Turn 3 of the famed IMS asphalt oval honors late USAC champion and three-time Indianapolis 500 starter Clauson and increases awareness of the Indiana Donor Network and its Driven2SaveLives campaign. A USAC-record 118 Midget cars are entered.

“Seeing both Dan Alexander and Dan Gerdes wave the green to start this historic race will provide an emotional and worthy tribute in Bryan’s honor,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles said. “So many members of this record-breaking field knew Bryan well, and they’ll be racing with extra passion and inspiration on Thursday night after such a moving celebration of his living legacy.”

Alexander, a 65-year old resident of Papillion, Nebraska, received Clauson’s heart. Gerdes, a 29-year-old resident of Auburn, Nebraska, received Clauson’s lungs. Clauson passed away following injuries sustained in a Midget car crash in 2016, but he saved five lives through organ donation and healed up to 75 people through tissue donation.

Clauson’s family works tirelessly in support of Driven2SaveLives, a grassroots effort among the racing community to support increased organ, tissue and eye donor registration. Indiana Donor Network and Verizon INDYCAR Series driver Stefan Wilson launched the campaign in April 2016 following the death of his brother and fellow INDYCAR driver Justin Wilson. Clauson was one of the most popular USAC racers in history and also climbed to the Indianapolis 500. He raced in the 2012, 2015 and 2016 Indy 500’s, leading laps in the 100th Running of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in 2016.

He was a three-time USAC National Midget Series Champion, two-time USAC National Sprint Car Champion and three-time USAC National Drivers Champion. He also won the 2014 Chili Bowl and was elected into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2018.

Bryan Clauson’s ‘Celebrate of Life’ at Kokomo Speedway

It Will Be A Day For Friends, Family And Fans; All Are Invited To Bryan Clauson’s Celebration Of Life.

 

 

A day full of stories and memories of the four-time USAC national champion Bryan Clauson will then be topped off by a race. The admission is free for the entire day and night.

Clauson was a racer from Noblesville, Indiana. He sustained injures after a crash in Kansas and died in a hospital in Nebraska earlier this month.

Kokomo Speedway  was one of his favorite tracks. The dirt track, where the Clauson won a 30-lap sprint car race on the night of this year's Indianapolis 500, will host this public event.

It all begins at 1:00 p.m., with stories shared from friends, family, competitors and car owners. USAC  announcer Dillon Welch will maintain some semblance of order.

Memories will be shared until 4:00 p.m., when it will be time to let the Kokomo Speedway track crew do their thing in preparation for the night’s races that get under way with hot laps at 6:30 p.m.

To top it all off, Tim Dugger will perform a free post-race concert where free Coca-Cola will be on hand while supplies last. It’s Coca-Cola of course since that was BC’s beverage of choice.

And for those unable to make the trip to Kokomo, www.thecushion.com  will stream the entire day and night free of charge.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Ricky Stenhouse was inspired by his friend Bryan Sunday. He matched his career-best finish by bringing the No. 17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford home second to race-winner Kevin Harvick at Bristol by driving the wheels off of his car in the rain-delayed Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race.

"We really wanted to get this Bryan Clauson tribute car in Victory Lane," Stenhouse said after the race. "It just wasn't meant to be today. We made our car a lot faster throughout the race and came from two laps down to get back on the lead lap. We missed some wrecks and gave it all we had."

Note: The Indiana Donor Network will be on hand as well throughout the day with on-site registration. Those that aren’t already organ donors can register to do so on site. The record for registrations at an event is around the 100 mark. The goal tomorrow is to reach 200 organ donor registrations, as the chase for 200 lives on.

#NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Drivin’ For Linemen 200, ARCA Midwest, USAC Silver Crown Series

Great Line Up For the Gateway Motorsports Park

“Three races, one ticket!” is the new slogan for this year’s highly-anticipated NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event on June 25 at Gateway Motorsports Park. The third annual NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Drivin’ For Linemen 200 will be accompanied this year by the USAC Silver Crown Series and ARCA Midwest Tour Late Models.

The Drivin’ For Linemen 200 delivers some of the most popular NASCAR drivers and teams to the St. Louis region, including 2015 winner Cole Custer, 2013-2014 series champion Matt Crafton and rookie sensation Rico Abreu. Seventeen-year-old Custer thrilled the NASCAR fans with a daring move on the final restart to win the 2015 Drivin’ For Linemen 200 by only 0.871-seconds over Spencer Gallagher. Tyler Reddick is a former local driver who has won twice in the Truck Series. Driver introductions are slated for 7 p.m. with the green flag at 7:30 p.m.

The USAC Silver Crown Series race brings open-wheel excitement to GMP’s June 25 tripleheader. The wingless “big cars” of open-wheel racing boast a colorful history dating back to 1971. Past USAC Silver Crown Series champions include: A.J. Foyt (1972), Mario Andretti (1974), Missouri’s hometown hero Ken Schrader (1982) and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champions Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart (1991 and 1995, respectively). California’s Kody Swanson is the series’ defending champion, having clinched titles in 2014 and 2015.

The 40-lap, 50-mile ARCA Midwest Tour race is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Two ARCA Midwest races have been run so far in 2016 and Ty Majewski of Seymour, Wisconsin, has won both. Majewski drives in this Late Model stock car series for the legendary Ruolo Brothers and is a member of Roush Fenway’s driver development program. Another driver to watch in this event is 17-year-old Natalie Decker, a four-time kart racing champion from Wisconsin.

The inaugural Climbin’ For Linemen competition will start at 9 a.m. in the speedway’s infield.

LEFFLER PROGRAM ESTABLISHED BY USAC BENEVOLENT FOUNDATION

 The USAC Benevolent Foundation has today announced a $10,000 grant in the memory of the late USAC racing champion Jason Leffler, who lost his life Wednesday night in a racing accident in New Jersey.

 The 501-3C-designated Foundation will also be accepting additional donations earmarked for usage by Jason's son Charlie Dean and Charlie's mother Allison.

A designated cap amount to be announced by the Board of Directors of the Foundation will also result in additional dollar-for-dollar matching funds for this purpose.

 "We are devastated by Jasons loss and recognize his long and loyal commitment to USAC racing and to the sport of auto racing in general," says USAC CEO/President Kevin Miller. "We encourage everyone to participate in this worthwhile endeavor as we honor the memory of one of our most cherished champions and appreciate the Foundation Board for their efforts in making this all possible."
