Top-Ten Finish For NCWS
West Driver Moses Smith

Eddie McDonald and Moses Smith

Moses Smith, piloting the No. 16 Hasa Pool Product/White Flyer Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally Racing, finished in fourteenth overall at Iowa Speedway. The Long John Silver 200 was the only NASCAR Camping World Series combined race for the East and the West Series. Smith received points for an eighth place finish as each series was scored separately. Moses is eighth in the point standings and only 61 points out of the top five in the chase for the 2009 West Series championship.

The track conditions changed at Iowa Speedway as fast as the weather. During the first practice on Saturday, Smith put the No. 16 Hasa Toyota seventh on the timing sheets with only 2/10th of a second out of the top three. Temperatures dropped and there was a threat of rain on race day. During final practice, Smith was 20th of 37 cars on the board. Smith would qualify the No 16 Hasa entry on the inside of row thirteen alongside veteran driver Steve Park from the East Series. During the 200-lap race, Smith climbed thru traffic and at lap 120, he was posted in the top ten. He radioed in with twenty-five laps to go that the Hasa Toyota had ‘no grip’. Smith would lose a few positions and finish fourteenth.

The Long John Silver “200” can be seen on May 28th on SPEED Channel’s Racing Across America.
