William Byron Stretches Fuel for Iowa Cup Series Win

William Byron Stretches Fuel for Iowa Cup Series Win

An extraordinary spate of cautions in Sunday’s Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol allowed William Byron to save an extraordinary amount of fuel, and that proved the difference in Byron’s second victory of the season and first since the Daytona 500.

With his first victory at the 0.875-mile short track and the 15th of his career, Byron regained the series lead by 18 points over teammate Chase Elliott, who finished 14th after pitting for fuel on Lap 283 of 350.

What enabled Byron to stretch his fuel to 144 laps was a series of seven quick cautions within 65 laps of the start of the final stage. All told, 12 cautions slowed the race for 72 laps.

“Man, how about that for some fuel mileage?” Byron asked rhetorically after climbing from his car. “We’ve had our fair share of things not go our way with fuel mileage, and just super thankful for (crew chief) Rudy (Fugle), all these guys, all the engineers, all the engineers back at the shop.

“Just this whole race team, we’ve been through a lot this year. It’s been a lot of growing pains. It’s been tough on us. But it feels really good today to get a win.”

Chase Briscoe finished second; Brad Keselowski placed third; Ryan Blaney came in fourth and Ryan Preece completed the top five.

Sam Mayer Charges to 1st Xfinity Win of 2025

Sam Mayer Charges to 1st Xfinity Win of 2025

Sam Mayer took control of Saturday’s Hy-Vee Perks 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway after a Lap 221 restart and maintained it the rest of the way to record the first victory for the Haas Factory team and the first in the series for Ford this season.

Mayer won at Iowa for the second straight year, having triumphed in a JR Motorsports Chevrolet last season.

“This one’s everything right here,” Mayer said of his eighth career win. “First win for Haas Factory Team — that’s awesome. This car was fast all day long. I tried to botch it on pit road, but we didn’t.

“I can’t believe it. This is one of the most special wins I have. These guys (Mayer’s team), they love me to death, I love them to death, and we’re just some good ol’ boys trying to go racing.”

Jesse Love finished second; Ross Chastain placed third; Connor Zilisch came in fourth and Harrison Burton completed the top five.

Points-Leading ‘Butterbean’ Queen Races to 5th ARCA Victory of Year

The distance between Brenden Queen and Brent Crews in Friday night’s ARCA Menards Series Atlas 150 was .412 seconds.

The time between Crews and third-place finisher Lawless Alan was much more than that.

Queen and Crews dominated the latest ARCA race at Iowa Speedway and the man they call “Butterbean” held off a late charge from Crews to win his fifth race of the season.

“You have to be in it to win it, and all it takes is a lap car and you are back in it or out of it,” Queen said. “The older I get I just learn to not panic.”

“I thought the lap cars were going to get me again,” Queen said. “We’ve raced against each other hard, and we know how hard we can push each other. He’s super talented and we’re pushing each other to be better.

“With six to go, we went for the same spot and drove the wheels off it.”

Brent Crews finished second; Lawless Alan placed third; Isabella Robusto came in fourth and Lavar Scott completed the top five.

Corey Kent Performing Busch Light Summer Music Series Pre-Race Concert at Iowa Speedway

Corey Kent Performing Busch Light Summer Music Series Pre-Race Concert at Iowa Speedway

The show highlights pre-race festivities for Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol as the NASCAR Cup Series returns to the Fastest Short Track on the Planet.

Corey Kent Performing Busch Light Summer Music Series Pre-Race Concert at Iowa Speedway

Country music sensation Corey Kent will bring high-octane energy to Iowa Speedway on Sunday, August 3, as part of the Busch Light Summer Music Series. The red dirt hitmaker will perform just before the green flag drops for the highly anticipated Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol NASCAR Cup Series race.

Known for his dynamic performances and chart-topping hits such as “Wild As Her” and “This Heart,” Kent will deliver an electrifying show on the frontstretch that blends modern country with southern rock grit. His performance will amp up the excitement for race fans and music lovers alike as they gear up for an unforgettable day of entertainment and high-speed action at the Fastest Short Track on the Planet.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Corey Kent to the Busch Light Summer Music Series,” said Iowa Speedway President Eric Peterson. “This performance is the perfect way to ignite a full-throttle experience for our fans leading into the Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol.”

Rising from the vibrant Red Dirt country scene as the embodiment of authenticity, Kent set his sights on Nashville as a teen, bringing his self-penned catalog of country-rock anthems with him. But after the loss of his first publishing deal, Kent was forced to move to Texas and get a job on a paving crew to pay the bills, yet he stubbornly refused to call music quits, with honky-tonks and dancehalls on both sides of the Red River becoming his stomping ground.

Fast forward a few years and the hit single “Wild As Her” proved he was right all along. An untamed tribute to a free-spirited stunner, the track re-invigorated Kent’s career as a now Triple Platinum-certified No. 1 at country radio, and the lead single off his major label album debut, Blacktop. Despite never cracking country radio’s Top 40, Kent’s trust-your-gut second single “Something’s Gonna Kill Me” went Gold, proving his message was connecting. Kent just landed his second Country Airplay Top 5 with the release of “This Heart,” and momentum has kept building, with Kent hitting the road alongside Jason Aldean, Jon Pardi, Parker McCollum and more. Next-big-thing accolades came in from CMT, Opry Next Stage and more, but even as Kent became the most played new artist on country radio for all of 2023, he kept the underdog, who-cares-about-conventional-wisdom mentality. And so did his fans.

For Kent, the point was that his fans have the same independent spirit he does, and he took that lesson into his next chapter. Settled into his ranch in Texas and intent on being fully present with his family while also achieving his dreams, Kent most recently released his sophomore major-label album, Black Bandana, to critical acclaim, with MusicRow Magazine describing the title track as “gently but unrelentingly uplifting.” Often seen with a black bandana around his neck, Black Bandana holds great meaning for Kent – it’s his rally cry.

This album is about finding balance, keeping clear eyes on what’s important – and waving that Black Bandana for all to see.

“The Busch Light Summer Music Series is off to an incredible start, and we’re delighted to bring Corey Kent to Iowa for what’s sure to be an unforgettable fourth show,” said Krystyn Stowe, Head of Marketing, Busch Family & Natural Family at Anheuser-Busch. “Iowa holds a special place in Busch Light’s heart-much of the corn we use in our beer is grown right here-so there’s no better place to bring together the best of racing, country music, and of course, cold Busch Light.”

The Iowa Speedway performance will be the fourth of five full-length concerts of the inaugural Busch Light Summer Music Series – an exciting fan experience born from the renewed partnership with NASCAR’s Official Beer Sponsor. Since the 1990s, Anheuser-Busch has created countless opportunities for 21+ NASCAR fans to get closer to the sport they love.

Kent’s Busch Light Summer Music Series performance at Iowa Speedway is included with Sunday race admission for the Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol. That race is a major highlight on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, and Kent’s performance adds to an already stacked weekend of speed, celebration, and summer fun.

Iowa Speedway Secures #NASCAR Cup Series Race

NASCAR today announced that it is bringing its first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race to Iowa Speedway on Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. CT on USA Network. This inaugural Cup Series race in Iowa Speedway culminates a weekend that will also include the NASCAR Xfinity Series at 2:30 p.m. CT on USA Network and ARCA Menards Series racing on June 14-16, 2024.

“Today’s announcement is an exciting one for NASCAR and for race fans in the state of Iowa,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Senior Vice President, Racing Development and Strategy. “They have long sought a NASCAR Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway, and we’re happy to deliver that for them. We fully expect this to be one of the most highly-anticipated dates on the 2024 schedule and an amazing weekend of NASCAR racing in The Hawkeye State.”

“The things Iowans value most are what NASCAR represents best—hard work, family, and community—which is exactly why our partnership has always been a natural fit,” Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said. “We’re thrilled to bring a NASCAR Cup Series race to Iowa Speedway next summer and for this incredible opportunity to introduce millions of racing fans to our great state.”

Iowa Corn will be the entitlement partner for the first-ever Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway. Comprised of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board and Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Corn works to unlock the potential of corn in a sustainable manner to meet the global need for food and energy. The name and logo of the Cup Series race will be announced in the near future.

“Iowa Corn is no stranger to racing and the Iowa Speedway as we helped introduce farmer produced biofuels to consumers through race sponsorships for a dozen years,” shared Craig Floss, Chief Executive Officer of the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. “By bringing the NASCAR Cup Series to Iowa, farmers are able to showcase the power and performance of Sunoco Green E15 at the fastest short-track on the planet, which is surrounded by corn fields, the very source of that amazing, renewable, homegrown and affordable biofuel.”

Iowa Speedway successfully hosted the Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series from 2009-2019, while the ARCA Menard Series has competed at the track in all but one season since the facility opened in 2006. Yet, since the racetrack opened in 2006, and was acquired by NASCAR in 2013, placing a Cup Series race at the venue had yet to materialize – until June 16, 2024.

Calypso Lemonade is the Entitlement Sponsorship of ARCA Menards Series Race at Iowa Speedway

Calypso Lemonade is the Entitlement Sponsorship of ARCA Menards Series Race at Iowa Speedway

Calypso Lemonade is the Entitlement Sponsorship of #ARCA Menards Series Race at Iowa Speedway

King Juice Company, the Automobile Racing Club of America, and Iowa Speedway announced today that Calypso, the originator of the flavored lemonade category, will serve as the entitlement sponsor of the ARCA Menards Series race at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, June 11.

The Calypso Lemonade 150 will mark the 16th visit for the ARCA Menards Series to the 0.875-mile banked oval known as the “Fastest Short Track in the World.” It will also be the first of three consecutive Saturday night short track races through the month of June, all of which will be televised live on MAVTV. “Calypso is thrilled to continue our partnership with ARCA and sponsor the Calypso Lemonade 150,” said David Klavsons, chief executive officer of King Juice Company, Inc. “We can think of no better way to kick off summer than to watch a great race on a beloved track, enjoying an ice-cold bottle of Calypso lemonade.”

Iowa Speedway opened in October 2006 with track designer Rusty Wallace’s son Steve Wallace winning the first race – coincidentally an ARCA Menards Series race – over legendary sprint car racer Steve Kinser’s son Kraig Kinser.

Since then, other winners have included ten-time series champion Frank Kimmel, Matt Hawkins, NASCAR on NBC analyst Parker Kligerman, Tom Hessert III, former series champion Ty Dillon, Cup Series 2021 playoff contender Alex Bowman, former series champions Grant Enfinger, Mason Mitchell, and Chase Briscoe, Dalton Sargeant, Sheldon Creed, Chandler Smith, and reigning series champion Ty Gibbs. Gibbs, grandson of Pro Football Hall of Fame head coach and NASCAR Hall of Fame team owner Joe Gibbs, is the only driver to win more than once, winning in both 2020 and 2021.

The relationship between Calypso and ARCA dates back to 2015 when the company sponsored what is now known as the Sioux Chief Showdown. The business-to-business relationship between Menards, the country’s third-largest home improvement retail chain, and King Juice Company, manufacturer and marketer of the Calypso brand of lemonade drinks, brings numerous opportunities for the Milwaukee-based beverage company to promote Calypso products to Menards growing customer base and to ARCA’s strong fan base.

“What a great way to kick off the summer than a great ARCA Menards Series short track race at one of America’s great racetracks,” said Jeff Abbott, Promotions Manager for Menards. “It’s always warm on those summer Saturday nights in Iowa and there’s no better way to quench your thirst than with a cool bottle of Calypso Lemonade and watching the stars of the ARCA Menards Series.”

The Shore Lunch 150 at 8 PM CT

#ARCA Racing at Iowa Speedway

Almost fifteen years have passed since the ARCA Menards Series became the first racing series to compete at what was then a brand-new Iowa Speedway.

With the exception of 2014, the 0.875-mile paved oval in Newton, Iowa, known as “The Fastest Short Track on The Planet” has appeared on the ARCA Menards Series schedule every year since. That tradition continues in 2021.

Tonights night’s Shore Lunch 150 marks the first of three ARCA Menards Series / ARCA Menards Series East combination events of the season. The drivers who are entered will receive points for both series.

“It’s the only 7/8-mile race track in the country that I’m aware of,” said Wallace, the NASCAR Hall of Famer and 1989 Cup Series champion who designed Iowa Speedway in the mid-2000s and who will attend Saturday night’s race and participate in an autograph session before he drives the pace car to lead the field to the green flag. “When we designed that track, we made it three different banking angles; I believe it’s 13, 14 and 15 degrees of banking angles. And those particular angles really created side-by-side racing.

“One thing I wanted to do also is, when we designed the track, really bank up the exits of the corners so the drivers when they try to pass can stay leaning on that banking and make the pass instead of coming off the banking and all of the sudden the track falls flat and the pass goes away.

“That’s one of the reasons almost all of the competitors who go there love racing there.”

Derek Kraus will lead the charge as Bill McAnally Racing goes for a fifth consecutive win in the annual NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combination race at Iowa Speedway on Friday.

Teams from across the country will travel to the 7/8-mile track in Newton, Iowa for the Casey’s General Stores 150.

Todd Gilliland won the prestigious race for BMR in 2016 and 2017 – his two full seasons in the K&N West, in which he won back-to-back championships. Brandon McReynolds swept two combination events for BMR in 2015, the last year in which Iowa Speedway hosted two East-West races in a season. He was the first driver with multiple wins in the event.

Kraus, who took over BMR’s No. 16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry after Gilliland graduated to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this year, returns to Iowa after winning the pole and finishing 11th in last season’s East-West race.

The 16-year-old NASCAR Next driver from Stratford, Wisconsin is currently third in the K&N West championship standings – with two wins, five top-five, and six top-10 finishes in seven starts this year. He won the most recent K&N West race – at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Oregon last month. This past weekend, in his first visit to New Hampshire Motor Speedway, he set a track record in winning the pole and had a fifth-place finish in K&N East action.

A special VIP experience is planned for a group of NAPA guests at Iowa Speedway on Friday. Their visit, coordinated by Sales Manager Randy Judge of NAPA’s Des Moines Distribution Center, will take them behind-the-scenes with a tour of the NASCAR garage and a special meet-and-greet with BMR’s drivers. The guests will also have the opportunity to be present at the drivers meeting and attend the driver introductions.

Activities off the track continue after the race, with the NAPA AUTO PARTS Concert Series at Iowa Speedway featuring a performance by Dylan Scott.

Iowa Speedway and Casey’s General Stores are collaborating to donate to the American Red Cross Greater Iowa Chapter to help in the recovery efforts in Bondurant, Pella and Marshalltown, Iowa after tornadoes ripped through the area last week.

Fans attending this weekend’s races are encouraged to make contributions at the Casey’s General Store concession stand on the Concourse. Iowans are also encouraged to contribute at participating Casey’s General Stores.

The tornadoes dealt the most damage when they tore through downtown Marshalltown, Bondurant and struck the Vermeer Corp. campus in Pella. But reports of tornadoes came in from as far north as Clarion and as far south as Ottumwa in a span of nearly three hours.

Iowa Speedway Cares, the Speedway’s charitable arm, has donated $1,000 to the American Red Cross Greater Iowa Chapter. Iowa Speedway Cares is a Donor Advised Fund of the NASCAR Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization based in Daytona Beach, FL. The primary focus of Iowa Speedway Cares is to support the local community, with an emphasis on youth-centered programs.

At-track contributions will be collected at the Casey’s General Store concession stand near the Newton Club when the Concourse opens. Concourse opening times are 1:30 p.m. CT on Friday and noon CT on Saturday.

“Many homes and lives were devastated by the tornadoes and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected,” said Iowa Speedway President David Hyatt. “But with thousands of people still in need, we’re anxious to return central Iowa to a sense of normalcy by enlisting the help of our loyal fans.

“We salute the dedication of those who have been working so hard on the rescue, relief and recovery effort.”

Earlier this month, Iowa Speedway fans donated more than 3,600 pounds of non-perishable food to help The Food Bank of Iowa in assisting those affected by recent flooding in Des Moines and the surrounding area.

RAGBRAI cyclists are invited to Ride The Track from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, July 25. For a $5 donation to Iowa Speedway Cares, the Speedway’s charitable arm, riders can take as many laps around the 7/8-mile oval as they would like.

Tomorrow, an estimated 20,000 cyclists, volunteers and sponsors will embark on a 59.1-mile ride from Ames to Newton that will include the Ride The Track event at Iowa Speedway.

“Of the 200-plus events we’ll host at Iowa Speedway this year, RAGBRAI might be one of the most unique,” said Iowa Speedway President David Hyatt. “The riders will get a chance to check their speed with a lap on the ‘Fastest Short Track on the Planet’ just two days before the stars of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series compete here to wrap up our 2018 race season.

“The City of Newton is, and has been, a tremendous supporter of Iowa Speedway since it was built. We are excited to see our community on a grand stage in an international spotlight.”

RAGBRAI started Sunday in the western town of Onawa, Iowa.

Allgaier Dominates Iowa 250, Earns Second Victory of 2018

Allgaier Dominates Iowa 250, Earns Second Victory of 2018 Race 14 of 33: Iowa 250 at Iowa Speedway
Track Specs: .875-mile oval / 250 laps
Weather: Fair, 89 degrees
Race Winner: Justin Allgaier

Allgaier Dominates Iowa 250, Earns Second Victory of 2018 - #NASCAR

Justin Allgaier swept the first two stages of Sunday’s Iowa 250 and held off Christopher Bell in the closing laps to grab his seventh career NASCAR Xfinity Series victory. The win also marked the 40th victory for JR Motorsports in NXS competition and it was the first for Allgaier at Iowa Speedway. The driver of the BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevy is locked in to the NXS Playoffs, sits sixth in the NXS point standings and has a series-leading eight playoff points.

The Illinois native started the 250-lap race from the 11th position and was running in eighth when a caution came out on lap 5. He radioed to crew chief Jason Burdett that the balance on the BRANDT Chevy was pretty neutral. On the restart on lap 9, he worked his way up to fifth before the completion of the lap. Allgaier powered his way up to the second spot by lap 33 and set his sights on leader Austin Cindric. He squeezed past Cindric on lap 59 to take the win in Stage One, collecting a coveted playoff point. Under the stage-ending caution, Allgaier came to pit road for four tires, fuel and a track-bar adjustment.

He took the green flag for Stage Two from the top spot on lap 70, choosing the outside line. Allgaier held point until Daniel Hemric closed in on him. The two battled back and forth for a few laps, but Allgaier was ultimately able to hold him off. On lap 93, he reported to the team that the No. 7 Camaro was tight through the center of the turns and free on exit. The driver of the BRANDT Chevy commanded the remainder of Stage Two to grab another stage win and collect one more playoff point. During the pit stop under the stage-ending caution, the team took four tires, fuel and made another adjustment.

Allgaier was scored in second when the field went back to green for the final stage on lap 130, but quickly retook the lead. The No. 20 of Christopher Bell was close enough to battle for the lead on lap 134, but was unable to complete the pass on Allgaier. Bell made multiple attempts as the final stage went on, with the two racing side by side multiple times, but Allgaier was the one out front when the caution came out for an incident in Turn 1 on lap 199. As the field came down pit road, the BRANDT team made a fast stop for four tires and fuel, allowing Allgaier to maintain the lead.

He again chose the outside lane for the lap-206 restart and won a three-wide battle to hold on to the top spot. Allgaier was still leading, with Bell close behind, when a caution came out on lap 234. Coming back to take the green with 12 laps to go, the JR Motorsports driver knew that the restart would be key. He was able to clear Bell and drive his way to his second victory of the season and the third for JR Motorsports at Iowa. Bell settled for second, with Hemric, Cole Custer and Brandon Jones rounding out the top five.

“We had a great BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevy today, these guys did a fantastic job. Iowa is a great place and the fans here are incredible. It’s just one of those places you have to go to. We’re in the middle of corn fields -- how could you not enjoy this? Winning on Father’s Day, it was really cool having my daughter here. I’m so proud of these guys. We have a lot of momentum heading into Chicagoland and we got the win there last year, so hopefully we can do it again.”

Noah Gragson: No. 18 Safelite AutoGlass® Toyota

Noah Gragson and the Safelite AutoGlass Racing team head to Iowa Speedway for Saturday’s M&M’s 200. The 0.875-mile oval is a track where Gragson is very comfortable navigating his way around, having made three K&N Pro Series West starts there prior to his first Truck Series start last season. In his three K&N Pros Series West starts, the Las Vegas native posted an average finish of 3.6, including a runner-up finish in July of 2015. He used that experience to his advantage in the Truck Series last year, capturing the pole and leading 16 laps before ending the day with a sixth-place finish.

Noah Gragson, Driver Q&A

With three starts in the K&N Pro Series West and one in the Truck Series at Iowa, is it a track where you feel more comfortable at than some of the others on the schedule?

“I think racing at Iowa Speedway in the K&N car and having that K&N experience definitely helped me get the pole there last year in the Truck Series. Definitely really like that track — it’s a track where you have a lot of options as a driver. You can run the bottom, you can run the top, it has progressive banking, so it makes it a lot of fun with two and three-wide racing. It’s definitely one of my favorites.”

Is there a track that is comparable to Iowa Speedway?

“I feel like Kansas Speedway — especially this year because it has been aging — is like a big Iowa. You can run different lanes — I was able to run the bottom at Kansas and then we moved up to the wall. A lot of the same characteristics and shape of the race track can come into play with both places. We ran good at Kansas and now we are going short-track racing, which I really enjoy. Getting out there at Iowa Speedway, it’s a lot of fun and I’ve definitely had it circled on my calendar for a long time — since the season started.”

Harrison Burton: No. 51 Morton Buildings Toyota - #NASCAR

Harrison Burton: No. 51 Morton Buildings Toyota

Harrison Burton has one prior NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start at Iowa last year when he started 14th and finished 11th. He also finished third in ARCA Racing Series competition in 2016 and has one top-five finish (fourth in 2017) in two NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts at the 0.875-mile oval.

Harrison Burton, Driver Q&A

Do you have more confidence heading into Iowa since you ran the NCWTS race there last year?
“I think anytime you can get experience somewhere and then apply that you are going to be way better than where you were the first time. Everything is going to come together way easier and way smoother and you can get in a rhythm a little easier the second time around.”

How much easier will it be to focus on racing now that school is out for the summer?

“It’s made my life a whole lot easier for sure. I don’t have to worry about doing homework on my way to the race track, or while I’m at the race track. I can focus on racing and prepare more ahead of time. I can watch race film instead of doing homework at night. I can start applying myself more in the gym and in the shop. It’s big relief to not worry about being at school everyday and instead focus on racing full time, which is awesome.”

Is it hard to race in so many different series with different types of vehicles, or is the overall experience a plus?

“I think anytime you can get in a race car is a positive. Every lap you turn you have an opportunity to learn something and gain experience in any vehicle. If it has four wheels, gas and brake pedals then you are going to learn from it. You can race against the best drivers in each series and learn from them, whether it’s Kyle Busch or the track champion at the Super Late Model races. They are all hard to beat and you learn from them and try to get better.”

Christian Eckes: No. 46 Mobil 1™ Toyota - #NASCAR

Christian Eckes: No. 46 Mobil 1™ Toyota

Christian Eckes will make his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) debut for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) in the M&M’s 200 at Iowa Speedway Saturday as part of a four-race schedule driving a fourth entry for the organization. Mobil 1™ – the world’s leading synthetic motor oil brand– will be the primary sponsor for the 17-year-old driver’s debut this weekend and will also adorn the hood of his No. 46 Tundra at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill., June 23 and ISM Raceway in Avondale, Ariz., Nov. 9. Eckes’ sponsor for his race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway Oct. 27 will be named at a later date.

Christian Eckes, Driver Q&A

What have you done to prepare for your Truck Series debut?

“I’ve watched a lot of film and taken a lot of notes. I’ve really worked on me personally, because KBM’s trucks are always really good — it’s up to me now. I’ve done a lot to prepare myself to get ready for the race and really excited to get in my No. 46 Mobil 1 Toyota Tundra.”

Does the fact that you’ve had two ARCA starts at Iowa make you more comfortable making your Truck Series debut there?

“Yeah — absolutely. I’ve raced there in ARCA twice now and had a great deal of success there. I’m really looking forward to getting to Iowa and getting to know my KBM guys some more and hopefully contending at Iowa.”

Do you have any goals set for this weekend?

“Hopefully a top-10 finish at the least. I’m really confident and hopeful in my debut to get a good finish for these guys and get ready for the races coming up.”

Todd Gilliland: No. 4 JBL/SiriusXM Toyota - #NASCAR

Todd Gilliland: No. 4 JBL/SiriusXM Toyota

Todd Gilliland has two wins at Iowa Speedway in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (2016 & 2017) and he finished ninth in his only ARCA Racing Series start at Iowa in 2015. He and his No. 4 KBM team also spent two days testing at Iowa last month.

In four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) starts this season, Gilliland has three top-10 finishes and 63 laps led. He led a race-high 62 laps at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend. Despite only competing in four of the eight races due to age restrictions, currently ranks 15th in the Truck Series championship standings and is 106 points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

Todd Gilliland, Driver Q&A

You have two wins at Iowa in NASCAR K&N Pro Series West competition. How much does that boost your confidence for the truck race?

“That and we also had a really great test there a few weeks ago. I’ve got a lot of confidence going in there and hopefully we can carry some of the momentum we have from such a great run in Texas into Iowa.”

What did you work on during the test at Iowa last month?

“We worked on getting the truck driving well. We were there for two days, so we got to run through a lot of stuff that maybe we could try at other short tracks as well. A lot of stuff has been different this year with the different tire compound, so we’re just trying to find what works best for our truck.”

Are you looking forward to getting back to a smaller track?

“I’ve really had a lot of fun being able to venture onto the mile-and-half tracks and get more experience on that end, but being able to get back to the short tracks where I feel the most comfortable with the most experience — especially at a place like Iowa where Kyle Busch Motorsports has had so much success in the past — I think it should be a really great weekend.”

KBM drivers have collected three wins, three poles, 525 laps led, seven top-five and 15 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 8.0 across 21 starts at Iowa.
