Ryan Preece Makes the Best of his Two Race Stint at JGR

Ryan Preece Makes the Best of his Two Race Stint at JGR

Preece Impresses with an Xfinity Runner-Up & Win

While Ryan Preece impresses in his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) NASCAR Xfinity debut; it was nothing compared to his drive yesterday. Kyle Busch may have won that Overton’s 200 on July15th at New Hampshire, but it was Ryan Preece who stole the show. The 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion was widely impressive in his first race since last season and finished second to Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch.

"This one’s for all the short track guys," said the 26-year-old Berlin, Connecticut native after his Xfinity Debut. "I work hard week in and out with that modified, so to be able to have this opportunity means a lot to me."

Well, yesterday was even better for Preece. The driver of the #20 MoHawk Northeast Inc. Toyota, held off a hard-charging teammate Kyle Benjamin in a green-white checkered finish that came after the third restart in the race’s final 17 pulse-quickening laps.

“I thought this race would never end, that’s for sure,” related an emotional Preece. “But man, nothing’s going to beat today.”

Ryan ran full-time in 2016, but made the decision to funnel his 2017 XFINITY Series resources into a two-race deal with JGR. That strategy paid off productively. After his runner-up finish in New Hampshire; the race yesterday went off perfectly.

Preece earned his first career Coors Light Pole Award; led Stage One in its entirety; and battled restarts confidently to the race win.

“I’m so at a loss of words right now,” Preece said. “I don’t know what to say. This is what emotion is, I can tell you that.”
