Venturini Motorsports Night Was Close to Perfect

Venturini Motorsports Night Was Close to Perfect

Michael Self Wins Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire in Double Overtime

Did you watch the Arca Race last night? The finish to the Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire was a nail biter. It also required a bit of patience on the fans part due to two lengthy red flag delays. However, the wait was worth it as Venturini Motorsports driver Michael Self took the checkered flag last night at Daytona International Speedway

Venturini Motorsports had four drivers in the field and the team made an impressive 2018 debut.

The dominance started with Natalie Decker. In her first attempt at Daytona, the Eagle River, Wisconsin rookie qualified with a top speed of 181.859 mph in her No. 25 Venturini Motorsports-prepared N29 Capital Partners – Yamaha Power Products Toyota Camry to win Pole.

"My goodness…it was crazy. My spotter (Eddie D'Hondt) talked the whole time. I told him to talk to me a lot. He told me to hold it on the yellow line and that's what I did. He sent me a big long text last night and it helped so much. Thanks to Dave (Leiner/crew chief), Billy (Venturini), Toyota and everyone at Venturini Motorsports for giving me this opportunity and continued support. We’ve put together a great team!”

Ms. Decker backed up her pole position start with a respectable top-five race finish.

Salt Lake City, Utah's Michael Self, in the No. 15 Venturini Motorsports-prepared Sinclair Lubricants Toyota only led one lap of the race. However, it was the lap that mattered. Self jumped out to a 10-length advantage in overtime to win the wild ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards Lucas Oil 200 Driven by General Tire Saturday night at Daytona Int'l Speedway.

"Survived man…just survived," said Self in victory lane having maneuvered around two late-race multi-car crashes to get in position for the biggest win of his career.

"I got really lucky. I made it through all the wrecks. This thing is rough…it's beat up. I made some mistakes, but we were able to overcome them. I had a lot of help on the radio…that's why we're here. This is especially great for Sinclair. It's insane how rewarding this feels. That company took a chance on me. They're from my home state, and that's really special."

With the leaders bunched up the entire way, even Self had no idea how he managed to drive away from the pack in the end.

"I have no idea how we got that big lead…I really don't. The car just took off. I was worried going down the backstretch…all those cars behind me with all that momentum. Those guys just seemed to stall each other out behind me."

Venturini Motorsports teammates Tom Hessert III and Leilani Munter finished fourth and eighth respectively.

The next event for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is the Music City 200 at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville Saturday night, April 7.
