ARCA Returns to Dirt at Historic Springfield Mile

ARCA Returns to Dirt at Historic Springfield Mile

The Allen Crowe 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds

The 2018 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will run the first of its two dirt track races in this year's championship schedule on Sunday, August 19.

The MAVTV telecast will air "live" from the iconic Springfield Mile at Illinois State Fairgrounds.

MAVTV/ARCA programming will start at 2:30pm ET with the re-air at 5:30pm ET.

It will be the 36th time the series has visited the 1-mile oval for the annual Allen Crowe 100 and the 15th in this year's schedule. The change from pavement to dirt at Springfield will be an interesting challenge for the drivers and teams after 14 races on a variety of paved ovals.

Dean Roper won ARCA’s first visit to Springfield in 1983. Other notables to have won at Springfield include 1989 series champion Bob Keselowski, who scored four wins in 1987, 1888, 1989, and 1998. Keselowski is also the father of 2012 NASCAR Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski.

Former Cup Series winner Ken Schrader won in 1998, current NASCAR XFINITY Series star and Springfield native Justin Allgaier scored a popular hometown win in 2006, and ten-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel scored eight wins between 2000 and 2012.

There have been nine consecutive races without a repeat winner at Springfield, dating back to Kimmel’s win in 2008. With no previous winners entered, that streak is guaranteed to extend another year.

Southern California drivers Sheldon Creed and Zane Smith continue to lead the championship point standings, which got a little tighter after Smith won the series’ most recent event at Pocono, Pa., July 27. Currently point standings have Creed at 3540 points, Smith at 3375 and Riley Herbst at 3125.

The series will return to MAVTV http://www.mavtv.com for three races in a row starting with the 2nd dirt track of the season at DuQuoin, Illinois, September 3.
