What a great Father’s Day Present!

 

Todd Gilliland maintained the lead in the final laps of the Camping World Truck Series race and took the checkered flag at Knoxville Raceway dirt track on Saturday. Todd took the opportunity of his regular series off weekend to race for his father's team, David Gilliland Racing. What a great Father’s Day Present!

 

“This will make tomorrow a lot more fun,” said Gilliland, who plans to enjoy brunch and play golf with his father on Sunday. “The Cup Series is tough, just racing every single week. I’ve had like a million people ask me, ‘Is this really what you want to do on your off week?’

 

“Absolutely. Nothing beats racing. I tell everyone I’m young, and I wish I could do this every single week of the year. … I love the trucks. I ran here forever, it felt like. So to be able to come back and to get one, it’s so special.”

 

 

About Todd

Starting his professional career in 2016, Todd won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Championship driving for Bill McAnally Racing. He followed up his efforts the following year, earning back-to-back Championship honors.

 

In 50 career NASCAR K&N Pro Series starts, Todd has visited victory lane 20 times.

 

Todd made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut in 2017, where he picked up six races with Kyle Busch Motorsports, earning three top 10’s that year. In 2018, he ran 19 of 23 race where he earned four top-five and nine top-10 finishes.

 

Gilliland collected his first Truck Series victory in 2019 at Martinsville Speedway. He joined Front Row Motorsports for the 2020 season and achieved four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes with the new team and made the Playoffs for the first time in his career.

 

Returning in 2021 for a 2nd year venture in the Camping World Truck series with Front Row Motorsports Todd recorded a career best season with 1 win, 10 top 5's, 16 top 10's with 359 laps lead out of 22 races. He made the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

In 2022 Todd will compete for rookie of the year in the NASCAR Cup Series in the number 38 Ford Mustang for Front Row Motorsports.

HighPoint Announced as an Addition for 5 Flags

HighPoint to Appear on Bubba Pollard’s No. 26

 

The Camping World SRX Series announced today the addition of HighPoint, a recent addition to the 2022 Tech Elite 250 list, for Five Flags Speedway and local ringer Bubba Pollard. HighPoint will appear on Pollard’s No. 26 car for the season opener on June 18.

Saturday at 6pm CT the 38 entries will be split into four qualifying heats. 36 trucks will qualify for the 150 lap main event. 

 

Trucks will earn:

• 10 points for first place
• 9 points for second place
• 8 points for third place, and so on. 

They will also earn 1 bonus point for each truck they pass on the track. 

 

The point totals will determine the starting lineup for the Clean Harbors 150 presented by Premier Chevy Dealers. Green Flag is at 8:15pm CT.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Returns to Knoxville Raceway

Clean Harbors 150 presented by Premier Chevy Dealers

 

 

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) will return to the “Sprint Car Capital of the World” June 18, 2022 for the Corn Belt Weekend at Knoxville Raceway. 

 

For the second consecutive year, the famed rural Iowa half-mile will host a NASCAR national series, as the American motorsports icon harkens back to its formidable years of racing on dirt ovals across America. 

 

“The inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Knoxville put on the remarkable show we were expecting when we added the storied dirt track to the schedule,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president of strategy and innovation. “In addition to the racing, the passionate fans in Iowa were incredibly supportive of this event in 2021. We can’t wait to build on that excitement and showcase this brand of racing at Knoxville Raceway again in 2022.” 

 

The inaugural Corn Belt 150 presented by Premier Chevy Dealers drew high praise from a host of competitors across multiple disciplines of motorsports – many of whom had yet to visit the famed facility prior to their arrival. 

 

NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe joined the line-up, as did husband and wife duo Stewart and Jessica Friesen. Ten-time World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car champion Donny Schatz and four-time Knoxville Raceway track champion Brian Brown both made their NASCAR debuts at the July 2021 event. 

 

“NASCAR’s debut at Knoxville Raceway in 2021 was a success in every sense,” said Knoxville Raceway’s Race Director John McCoy. “Everyone at the track and on the Marion County Fair Board worked tirelessly to make the event happen and we’re proud to have earned the trust and respect of NASCAR so we can do it again. We’re looking forward to growing this event and making that ticket a ‘must have’ for the race fans who Knoxville is so privileged to serve.”

The event will be promoted in cooperation with North Carolina-based Spire Holdings. 

 

“Presenting the most prestigious dirt track in the world to the NASCAR community was an honor and we’re thrilled NASCAR chose to continue showcasing the Camping World Truck Series at Knoxville Raceway,” said Joey Dennewitz, Spire Holdings’ vice president of strategic initiatives. “Seeing Austin Hill’s face, along with his team from Hattori Racing, while they were presented with the inaugural trophy was the icing on the cake for our entire group. Winston, Ga.’s Austin Hill won the scheduled 150-lap contest, which was extended by 29 extra laps to complete a green-white-checkered flag finish, giving the Knoxville faithful both a spectacular and historic conclusion. 

 

"You always want to be the guy to win an inaugural race at any track, but winning at Knoxville was extra special,” Hill said. “It was probably the most unpredictable race of the season and I'm sure next year will be every bit as exciting. Racing a truck there was a surreal experience, and to win it was a huge accomplishment for us. Knoxville has as much history as any track in the country and to be a winner there is pretty incredible."

Knoxville Raceway to Host NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

Sprint Car Capital of the World

 

In the late 1800s, just 45 miles southeast of the state capitol in Des Moines, a small farming community in the unassuming town of Knoxville carved out a half-mile oval at the Marion County Fairgrounds for what was originally intended to be a horse racing facility.

 

In 1901, the facility staged what is touted as the first automobile race at an Iowa fairground, and perhaps the country, featuring a pair of vehicles that were on display at the fair.

 

While the account of the day told a tale of a race that was “nothing remarkable,” the first chapter in the storied history of Knoxville Raceway was written.

 

Since then, Knoxville Raceway has become synonymous with sprint cars, an abundance of chapters have been recorded, while the venue and town have been affectionately designated as “The Sprint Car Capital of the World.”

 

Flash forward over a century from that 1901 summer to modern day as Knoxville Raceway and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will co-author a new adventure. NASCAR’s 3,400-pound purpose-built race trucks will take on the venerable dirt oval as NASCAR and sprint car fans come together for the Knoxville Raceway Corn Belt Weekend.

 

For the first time in its prestigious history, Knoxville Raceway will host a NASCAR National Touring Series event when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at the famed half-mile dirt oval on Friday night, July 9, 2021. The event will take place on the eve of the Corn Belt Clash, formerly the Corn Belt Nationals, non-winged sprint car race which will shift to Saturday, July 10.

 

Originally, the two-day non-winged event, featuring the USAC Sprint Car National Championship Series and POWRi War Sprints was scheduled for July 9 & 10. Now, the Corn Belt Clash will be moved solely to Saturday, July 10 and will continue to boast a $20,000 top prize for the sole non-winged sprint car event at the Sprint Car Capital of the World. The track’s 410 winged sprint cars series will also compete on July 10.

 

“With the help of NASCAR, Knoxville Raceway is ready to pen another chapter in the history that’s been created at the most legendary dirt track in the world,” said Knoxville Raceway’s Race Director John McCoy. “We’re honored by the faith NASCAR has placed in our facility and staff to raise the already high bar in delivering the best racing to our fans. Iowa Speedweeks (#nascar)

Following in the tradition of other iconic centers of racing, Iowa Speedway and Knoxville Raceway are proud to claim the time around Iowa Speedway’s NASCAR XFINITY Series U.S. Cellular 250 on July 30, and Knoxville Raceway’s 56th Annual 5-hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores on August 10-13 as Iowa Speedweeks!

Separated by just 30 miles, Knoxville Raceway and Iowa Speedway share many of the same characteristics that make central Iowa home to some of the best racing in the world. It is often said that Iowa is home to more race tracks per capita than any other state, which fans here proudly wear as a badge of honor. 

Connecting to a tradition that dates back to the earliest days of the automobile, the two tracks are thrilled to jointly promote amazing racing and a culture that reflects the fabric of America, including a loyal and passionate fan base.

Motorsports fans in Iowa arrive early, stay late and know the competitors like the backs of their hands!

Fans are encouraged to attend events throughout Iowa Speedweeks, which include the NASCAR XFINITY Series “Hauler Parade” through Newton on July 28, a drive-in movie at Valle Theater in Newton on July 31, the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation/Kick-It Go-Kart Spectacular at Slideways Karting Center in Knoxville on August 11, and the Tony Stewart Kick-It Cup Kickball Game at Youngs Park in Knoxville on August 12.
