#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class

NASCAR Drive for Diversity Announces 2017 Driver Class
After a season of milestones for NASCAR Drive for Diversity graduates competing across NASCAR national series, the industry’s flagship development program for multicultural and female drivers has announced that six drivers will join its 2017 class. The drivers were selected after a competitive combine held last October at New Smyrna Speedway and will compete for Rev Racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class

The 2017 class features a former NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series champion, the granddaughter of one of the sport’s female pioneers, and NASCAR Drive for Diversity’s first sibling teammates. The drivers will attempt to follow in the footsteps of program graduates and current national series drivers Kyle Larson, Darrell Wallace Jr., and 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion Daniel SuĂĄrez.

"Now more than ever, we’re seeing the impact of NASCAR’s development program in producing drivers who excel at the highest echelons of our sport," said Jim Cassidy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. "There’s a great deal of talent and potential in this year’s class. With the strong foundation that NASCAR Drive for Diversity provides, these drivers will have the opportunity to develop the skills needed to elevate their racing careers."

The 2017 class is led by four returning drivers, Collin Cabre, Jay Beasley, Madeline Crane and RubĂ©n GarcĂa Jr., who first competed in stock car racing in his native Mexico. Collin’s younger brother, Chase Cabre, joins 16-year-old Macy Causey as this year’s NASCAR Drive for Diversity newcomers. Causey’s grandmother, Diane Teel, was the first woman to compete in a NASCAR XFINITY Series race in 1982.

Rev Racing, the operational arm of NASCAR Drive for Diversity, will field four teams in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and two in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The 2017 NASCAR Drive for Diversity roster features:

#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class - Collin Cabre
Collin Cabre: An impressive second year in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program was highlighted by four top-five and six top-10 finishes and a sixth-place finish in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship standings. After winning the 2015 season finale at Dover International Speedway, Cabre was named to the 2016-2017 NASCAR Next class. The 23-year-old from Tampa, Florida, will compete in his third season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East with Rev Racing.

#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class - Chase Cabre
Chase Cabre: Cabre, 20, registered 12 race wins in 21 starts in a 600 Mini Sprint Car and is a two-time Fall Brawl Champion at Florida’s Ocala Bullring. In 2016, he averaged a fourth-place finish in races at Hickory Motor Speedway and set two poles during the season. Chase will compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in his rookie season with Rev Racing.

#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class - Rubén García Jr.
Rubén García Jr.: At age 20, the Mexico City native became the youngest NASCAR PEAK Mexico driver to win the series championship in 2015. García was also part of the NASCAR Next program in both 2015 and 2016. He returns to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East after finishing 10th in the series last season.

#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class - Jay Beasley
Jay Beasley: Beasley, 24, made history in 2013 by becoming the first African-American driver to win a Super Late Model race at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In his first season with the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program in 2014, he earned two top-five and five top-10 finishes in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. He returns to the series for his third season with Rev Racing.

#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class - Macy Causey
Macy Causey: Causey was honored with the NASCAR Young Racer Award in 2016. The year prior, she won the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Virginia Rookie of the Year Award and earned top rookie honors at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia, where in 1978 her grandmother became the first woman to win a NASCAR-sanctioned race at the track. Causey will compete for Rev Racing in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series.

#NASCAR D4D Announces 2017 Driver Class - Madeline Crane
Madeline Crane: The Georgia native began her career racing Bandoleros at Atlanta Motor Speedway at age 10. Crane, 19, moved into Legend cars, and by the time she was 14 had garnered 59 top-five finishes in 82 starts. Returning for a second season with NASCAR Drive for Diversity, she will compete in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series following two top-five and 12 top-10 finishes in 2016.

NASCAR Drive for Diversity aligns drivers with a team of executives, athletic directors, crew chiefs and mentors tasked with helping them achieve career successes, and thus improving their goal of reaching one of the three NASCAR national series.

Since it began fielding NASCAR Drive for Diversity cars in 2010, Rev Racing has been one of the most consistent teams in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, registering 17 wins, 65 top-five and 124 top-10 finishes with drivers finishing in the top-10 in points each season.

"Each year the applicant pool and talent level rises and our program continues to evolve and create more opportunities for advancement," said Max Siegel, CEO and owner of Rev Racing. "NASCAR Drive for Diversity and Rev Racing are proud of the impact that we have had in the sport and we look forward to graduating the next generation of athletes to the national series."

The 2016 NASCAR season was a historic year for NASCAR Drive for Diversity alumni. Larson, who is Asian-American, became the first program graduate to win a race and reach the playoffs in the sport’s premier series, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

With his NASCAR XFINITY Series victory at Michigan International Speedway, SuĂĄrez was the first Mexican-born driver to win a national series race, and last November he became the first foreign-born driver to win a national series championship. SuĂĄrez will make his debut in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series racing for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2017.

The 2017 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season opener will take place on Feb. 19 at New Smyrna Speedway, where Rev Racing scored a win with SuĂĄrez in 2014.

2017 Schedule For #NASCAR K&N Pro Series

2017 Schedule For #NASCAR K&N Pro Series
2017 Schedule For #NASCAR K&N Pro Series

NASCAR fans have been thrilled in recent years by the achievements of the sport’s rising stars – from Joey Logano’s DAYTONA 500 win in 2015 to Austin Dillon, Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson joining him in the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Daniel Suarez won the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship this year and William Byron led the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in wins.

They all have one thing in common. They cut their teeth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series before breaking into NASCAR’s national series.

With the announcement by NASCAR of the 2017 schedules for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West, fans across the United States will get to see up close the next wave of young drivers looking to make their impact.

The calendars for NASCAR’s top developmental series feature several can’t miss events to highlight those next superstars. The schedules cover 27 races, anchored by the annual combination race with the East and West at Iowa Speedway in July.

“The NASCAR K&N Pro Series have been an exceptional proving ground for our sport’s up-and-coming drivers,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president of touring & weekly series. “The 2017 schedules for the East and West feature an assortment of tracks that will test the drivers and provide a platform to showcase their talents.”

The season will open with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at New Smyrna Speedway on Sunday, Feb. 19 as part of the Florida track’s 51st Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. The event will be part of a day that starts with Coors Light Pole Award Qualifying for the DAYTONA 500 at nearby Daytona International Speedway.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West begins its season with a unique four-race swing that parallels the NASCAR premiere series swing out West. The opening race will be at Tucson Speedway on Saturday, March 18, as the premiere and XFINITY Series visit Phoenix International Raceway. The West will then run at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif., on Thursday, March 23, before racing in twin 100-lap features at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday, March 25. The premiere and XFINITY Series will be competing at nearby Auto Club Speedway that weekend.

Like their California counterpart, Virginia’s South Boston Speedway has a reputation in racing as a top-flight facility. Similarly, South Boston – which has undergone a multi-million dollar improvement process, including a track repave this offseason – will host twin 100-lap championship events for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East on Saturday May 6.

“The 2017 schedules are a perfect blend of short tracks, road courses and national series companion events, that really bring out the best in the competitors in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series,” said Jesse Spungin, chief marketing officer of K&N Engineering, Inc. “We are excited to be involved in the series and are looking forward to what the new year brings and seeing NASCAR’s next generation of drivers battling it out across the country.”

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will also make its first trips to Memphis International Raceway (June 3) and Berlin Raceway in Michigan (July 1); and will be featured in a throwback weekend at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 8. Thompson has held 27 K&N Pro East events, dating back to the series’ second year (1988) when it was the NASCAR Busch North Series.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will feature its 54th trip to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., on Saturday, Aug. 12 and a return to Washington’s Spokane Country Raceway on May 13. The series will crown its champion with a second trip to Kern on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Other highlights of the 2017 schedule include:

  • • The K&N Pro Series will be part of five companion weekends with the NASCAR national series, including road-course events for the East at New York’s Watkins Glen International (Aug. 4) and for the West at Sonoma Raceway in California (June 24). In addition to the combination race at Iowa, the K&N Pro East will also race at Bristol Motor Speedway (April 22), New Hampshire Motor Speedway (July 15) and complete the season at Dover International Speedway (Sept. 29).
  • • Leading up to the finale at the high-speed half-mile at Kern, K&N Pro Series West championship contenders will have to navigate a string of bullrings in the second half of the season, beginning with Evergreen before traveling to Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore. (Aug. 26), Idaho’s Meridian Speedway (Sept. 30) and All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. (Oct. 14).
  • • The K&N Pro East will make its traditional spring stop at South Carolina’s Greenville Pickens Speedway. One of the oldest tracks in NASCAR, Greenville has proven to be a title test in recent years. The eventual series champion has won at Greenville in each of the last four seasons.
  • • Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif. (May 20), Colorado National Speedway (June 10) provide an early season test for the K&N Pro West, while the K&N Pro East will host its penultimate race of the season on the road course at New Jersey Motorsports Park (Sept. 16).

Julia Landauer-Highest Female Finish in the K&N Pro Series

Julia Landauer-Highest Female Finish in the K&N Pro Series

And That’s A History-Making Wrap!

As the 2016 season came to its end, K&N Pro Series West Driver, Julia Landauer rounded out the season with an intense battle that resulted in a third place finish.  That podium position moved her up to fourth in points for the final championship standings - the highest finishing female in K&N Pro Series (East and West) championship history!

At the beginning of this season, the team set out to finish every race, run consistently in the top-5, get some podiums, hopefully get a win, and finish in the top-5 in points standings.  While that elusive win is still unrealized,  in the course of the fourteen-race season, Julie earned two podiums, seven top-five finishes, and thirteen top-tens.

Julia Landauer-Highest Female Finish in the K&N Pro Series

Ms Landauer expressed her appreciation to:
  • – Huge thanks to Bill McAnally Racing, including Bill, my #54 team of Mario, Eric, Jake, Mike, Kevin, Rick, Kim, Germane, and many others.
  • – Thank you to our partners, Toyota Racing, Curb Records, Napa Filters, and The Movemeant Foundation for having the vision to make the season happen and keep it going.
  • – I wouldn’t have been able to put all the pieces together and keep them straight without Wilder, Chris, Nate, and Steve at Julia Landauer Racing. Thank you so much for your years of dedication.
  • – A very warm and appreciative shout out to my parents, Emma, Aidan, and Vince for your constant support, advice, love, and encouragement. To Lyn, Devanshi, Rayna, Emma, Robert, Michele, and David for always being there for me and for giving excellent advice.
  • – I’ve had the honor of working and brainstorming with great folks at NASCAR and in the NASCAR Next program to advance my career. I can’t thank you enough for all of the time and tools you have provided.
  • – THANK YOU to each and every one of you who has supported me, sent me wonderful notes, suggested ideas for improvement, gave me likes on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, voted me Most Popular Driver (keep those votes coming in daily!), and believed in me.
You can catch the broadcast of the Napa Autoparts 150 race on TV, as it airs on NBCSN on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT.

Iowa Speedweeks (#nascar)

Iowa Speedweeks (#nascar)

Following in the tradition of other iconic centers of racing, Iowa Speedway and Knoxville Raceway are proud to claim the time around Iowa Speedway’s NASCAR XFINITY Series U.S. Cellular 250 on July 30, and Knoxville Raceway’s 56th Annual 5-hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores on August 10-13 as Iowa Speedweeks!

Separated by just 30 miles, Knoxville Raceway and Iowa Speedway share many of the same characteristics that make central Iowa home to some of the best racing in the world. It is often said that Iowa is home to more race tracks per capita than any other state, which fans here proudly wear as a badge of honor.

Connecting to a tradition that dates back to the earliest days of the automobile, the two tracks are thrilled to jointly promote amazing racing and a culture that reflects the fabric of America, including a loyal and passionate fan base.

Motorsports fans in Iowa arrive early, stay late and know the competitors like the backs of their hands!

Fans are encouraged to attend events throughout Iowa Speedweeks, which include the NASCAR XFINITY Series “Hauler Parade” through Newton on July 28, a drive-in movie at Valle Theater in Newton on July 31, the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation/Kick-It Go-Kart Spectacular at Slideways Karting Center in Knoxville on August 11, and the Tony Stewart Kick-It Cup Kickball Game at Youngs Park in Knoxville on August 12.

Stay tuned to Iowa Speedway and Knoxville Raceway’s respective social media handles and websites for details on the events surrounding the 13 races that make-up Iowa Speedweeks.

We also encourage fans to use the hashtag #IowaSpeedweeks to show their support for racing at “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet” and “The Sprint Car Capital of the World!”
