Gibson Partners with Nashville Superspeedway

Gibson Partners with Nashville Superspeedway

June 18-20 NASCAR Tripleheader Weekend / Iconic Nashville-Based Guitar Company Continues to Be Part of Victory Lane Ceremony

Gibson Partners with Nashville Superspeedway (#NASCAR)

Gibson, the world’s most famous guitar manufacturer and a staple of Nashville’s music scene for generations, is partnering with Nashville Superspeedway to create a one-of-a-kind Victory Lane prize for America’s best drivers.

Nashville Superspeedway’s Victory Lane celebration became one of the most talked about in NASCAR during the track’s early days from 2001-11, with the ultimate reward of a Sam Bass-designed Gibson guitar presented to winning drivers.

With NASCAR returning to Middle Tennessee on June 18-20, including the inaugural “Ally 400” NASCAR Cup Series race on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20, that tradition will continue, with a special Gibson Guitar among the prizes and honors awaiting all of the Superspeedway’s race winners in Victory Lane.

“Without question it’s important to maintain the tradition of a Music City-made Gibson guitar for our race winners,” said Erik Moses, Nashville Superspeedway’s president. “While everyone misses Sam and we could never recreate what he offered to our track champions, we are thrilled to rekindle our partnership with Gibson and to award their timeless guitars to our race winners.”

“Cars and guitars go together, but when you add Music City and the Nashville Superspeedway, this creates an awesome experience for fans,” said James “JC” Curleigh, President and CEO of Gibson. “We are excited about this partnership and can’t wait for the winner to raise the Gibson Guitar on the podium.”

“I have had the privilege to work directly with Sam on his guitar creations for NASCAR,” added Heather Freeland, Entertainment Relations North America (Nashville) for Gibson. “He was a true artist that captured the spirit of racing through his talent and was able to transform a guitar into a symbol of sportsmanship. Gibson is honored to continue this partnership while honoring Sam’s legacy.”

Bass, who passed away in 2019, had his hand in designing many cars and trophies throughout the sport for several decades and was a revered member of the NASCAR community. In consultation with Bass’ wife Denise, Nashville Superspeedway will create a variety of tributes honoring Bass’ contribution to the track and the sport.

The sold out “Ally 400” NASCAR Cup Series race (2:30 p.m. CT, NBCSN) is the first Cup Series race in the Nashville area in 37 years and the centerpiece of the June 18-20 NASCAR tripleheader weekend. The schedule also includes the “Tennessee Lottery 250” NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday, June 19 (2:30 p.m. CT, NBCSN) and the “Rackley Roofing 200” NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on Friday, June 18 (7 p.m. CT, FS1).

MDRmotorsports Driver Mentoring Meeting at Sam Bass Gallery

MDRmotorsports Driver Mentoring Meeting at Sam Bass Gallery by Josh Aultice

MDRmotorsports Driver Mentoring Meeting at Sam Bass Gallery

Saturday was a day full of travel and networking. Thank you so very much to MDR, Mary, and Sharon for organizing the event and a very special thank you to Mr. Sam Bass for hosting the event at his gallery. The atmosphere for the event was absolutely perfect and very inspirational. I caught myself more then once staring at some of the artwork and just wondering if perhaps one day I would have a paint scheme of my car hanging amongst the shrine of these other NASCAR legends.

The event started off by everyone gathering in a circle and introducing themselves and talking of their NASCAR affiliates. It was a very well rounded group, from someone like me who is just starting to find my footing in the NASCAR world all the way up to someone like Joey Gase poised to make his first ever Daytona 500 start.

Next we were divided up to have one- on- one time with a mentor. I personally enjoyed the company of drivers Chad Finchum, Kyle Lockrow, and Joey Gase, as well as media professionals Keith Weiss and Ellen Richardson. Unfortunately I did not quite make it all the way around to meet all the mentors; however, I really enjoyed my time with the ones I did speak with. Everyone was extremely encouraging and it was refreshing to pick the brains of some of these professionals as I am in the midst of finishing up school at Liberty University and forging my own path within the world of NASCAR.

Sam Bass encouraged everyone to continue pursing their passions.
The perfect conclusion and one of my favorite highlights of the event was when Mr. Sam Bass came out to address the group at the end. He encouraged everyone to continue pursing their passions as he talked about some of his personal experiences. He even took time after to take pictures and talk with anyone who wished to meet him personally. It was such an honor to meet Sam and it truly was an unforgettable experience to reflect on all his work and accomplishments displayed throughout the gallery.

What I want to leave everybody with is simply an encouragement to keep going and never stop chasing your dreams. It’s unbelievable to look back just two years ago and think I was just another fan in the stands. If you had told me then in two years I would have volunteered at tracks like Martinsville Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, interviewed William Byron on stage in front of nearly 10,000 people, and created my own internship at Liberty concerning sponsorship with William Byron, I would have told you there’s no way. I am on the fringe of doing big things. I still have a long ways to go to reach my ultimate goal of being a driver; however, I’m learning more and more every day to enjoy the journey rather then solely focus on the destination. So keep going, keep making connections, and never stop dreaming.

Holiday Card Sets Designed By Sam Bass #NASCAR

To say that Sam loves the holidays is an understatement. For years, 'The First Officially Licensed Artist of NASCAR', has had a tradition of creating cheerful winter-themed originals depicting Santas and snowmen in whimsical snowy settings. Although this tradition was originally started for close family and friends in celebration of Sam’s favorite season, the warm characters and chilly scenes caught on.

They became so popular that in 2005 - after encouragement from those same family members, friends, and clients - he released his first edition of the Sam Bass Santas & Snowmen Collection. Now you can have a set of these specially designed cards to send to your friends while helping us continue our work of helping children in our racing communities.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Sam Bass is the most accomplished artist and graphic designer in
NASCAR. Since 1987, he has created race team graphics for corporate America’s leading sponsors, NASCAR team owners and drivers.
