Tyler Dippel started competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series in 2016, following a stint in Super Late Models across the East Coast. Before racing on asphalt in a stock car for the first time in 2014, Dippel competed in the DIRTCar Racing Series, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors.

More recently, earlier this month, DGR-Crosley announced that 18-year-old Tyler Dippel had joined the team to compete in the remainder of the 2018 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) events. Dippel was set to pilot the No. 54 TyCar Trenchless Technologies / D&A Concrete Toyota Camry starting this weekend at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va.

"Tyler comes to us with a lot of experience in the K&N Series," said David Gilliland, President of DGR-Crosley. "We've competed against him on a regular basis over the past two years. I've had the opportunity to watch him grow as a driver, and he's shown how much potential he has behind the wheel. He has the talent and speed that we need - I'm excited to see what we can do together this season."

"Tyler comes to us with a lot of experience in the K&N Series," said David Gilliland, President of DGR-Crosley.
That move proved most advantageous. Dippel and the No. 54 TyCar Trenchless Technologies / D&A Concrete Toyota hit the track for the first time at Langley Speedway on Friday, April 27 for a test day.

On Saturday, the Wallkill, New York native completed the weekend sweep, winning his second career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race on Saturday night at Langley Speedway after being quickest in both forty-five minute practice sessions and starting on the pole for the Visit Hampton VA 150.

After finishing ninth at New Smyrna and sixth at Bristol earlier this season, Dippel was relieved to finally earn the victory this season.

“What a weekend. I can’t thank all my guys enough, all the people that stick behind me,” said Dippel. “My mom and dad, D&A Concrete, just everyone. It feels so good to be back here. I can’t thank the DGR guys enough. I think we’re just getting started here at DGR. I can’t wait for the rest of the year.”

Tyler Dippel is now second in points; a mere two points behind teammate Tyler Ankrum.

Denny Hamlin’s Short Track Showdown returns after a two-year hiatus to Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia.

Denny Hamlin’s ‘Short Track Showdown’ Today #NASCAR

Joining Hamlin for the 200-lap pro-am late model charity race is Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch as well as NASCAR veteran Timothy Peters. All proceeds from the Short Track Showdown will benefit the Denny Hamlin Foundation, which supports Cystic Fibrosis research and therapy.

“This is truly one of my favorite events to host because of what it means for the local racers,” said Hamlin. “It’s great they get to race against NASCAR veterans like Kyle, Timothy and myself. Plus, I love the attention it gives to these historic Virginia tracks where many drivers, myself included, got our start racing stock cars. Langley has always been special to me, so I’m excited to bring this event there, and look forward to raising money for the Foundation as well.”

Hamlin began his stock car racing career at Langley Speedway in 1997 and would go on to win not only his first stock car race in the tracks mini-stock series, but also capture the track’s rookie-of-the-year honors and the track championship in his debut season.

Gilliland Wins / Van Wieringen Impresses

Todd Gilliland Wins / Dominique Van Wieringen Impresses NASCAR Race Mom (NRM) was bummed that she was not able to attend the K&N Pro Series East race yesterday. Not for the reason you might think.

Sure watching Todd Gilliland manage his patience and tires in order to surge back to the lead of the race for the laps that counted would have been exciting to witness. Todd, who is working to make NASCAR history by winning the two NASCAR K&N Pro Series stock car titles – East and West – in the same year, made positive progress towards that ambition. He now leads in the East by six points over Harrison Burton and in the West by five points over teammate Chris Eggleston.

“I think we were all saving tires from second on back,” Gilliland said after the race. “Dad told me we were kind of in the line and when [Bassett] was trying to get away like that, we just had to be mentally tough and let him get out there. That’s always tough as a racecar driver but, in a 150 lap race, you’ve got to know when to let them go.” .

There are two East races and three West races remaining in the 2017 season. Quite a lot of pressure for the seventeen-year-old.

What NRM missed most, however, was the hard-charging drive by Dominique Van Wieringen. The Canadian qualified a mediocre twelfth out of the field of fourteen. It was her first race of the season. She had been sidelined for a lack of funding. I believe her opportunity to return to the K&N Pro Series stage came when she was asked to sub for Tyle Dippel, who was running an ARCA race the same night.

Dippel, a former winner in the series, had only managed a season’s best of fifth place in the ride. Nonetheless, it would appear that Dominique was aware of the importance of making the best of her unexpected break.

Van Wieringen  rallied from her “back of the pack” starting spot to finish on podium in third. Twice, on laps 126 and 140, she went to the outside in three-wide situations to gain two positions.

“I learned, when I started racing late models, that you’ve got to make the outside work and I was dead set determined to be the one that makes the outside work,” Van Wieringen stated. “I haven’t raced in over a year and I was worried, with our qualifying result, that we would be able to make our way up in the top-three so this is an exhilarating moment.”

Opinion: Dominique Van Wieringen has shown so much potential and talent. It is a shame that she cannot garner the funding necessary to remain on track. Hopefully a sponsor out there will take notice.

K&N Pro Series East Races Today

K&N Pro Series East Races TodayBurton and Gilliland Continue Championship Battle

K&N Pro Series East Races Today

The K&N Pro Series East "Visit Hampton VA 150” at Langley will be run today. Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 2nd ; it was rescheduled “due to weather.” NASCAR Next drivers Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland will enter the race separated by only four points in the championship standings!

K&N Pro Series East Races Today

Neither driver has competed with the series at Langley, however, unfamiliarity has not slowed either in 2017. Gilliland won at Michigan’s Berlin Raceway in his first K&N Pro Series East visit to the track, while Burton won seven days later at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in his first series race there.

Harrison Burton (No. 12 DEX Imaging Toyota)

  • • Holds the K&N Pro Series East points lead with four wins, 10 top fives and 11 top 10s in 11 races this season.
  • • Won at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in April for his first career K&N Pro Series win.
  • • Has wins at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway, Memphis and Thompson this season.
  • • Leads the series with 10 top-five finishes this season and is one of only two drivers to finish in the top 10 in every start. Has not finished worse than sixth this year.
  • • Has never competed with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Langley.

Todd Gilliland (No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota)

  • • Trails Burton in the championship standings by four points with three wins, eight top-five and 11 top-10 finishes.
  • • Won three of the last five K&N Pro Series East races and four of the first five K&N Pro Series West races this season, with K&N Pro Series East wins at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Iowa Speedway, and owns 17 career K&N Pro Series wins.
  • • One of only two drivers to finish in the top 10 in all 11 East races this season, he sits second in the current series standings with three wins, eight top fives and 11 top 10s through 11 races.
  • • This will be his first series start at the Virginia track.

The race delay worked well for Todd, who competed in the Camping World Truck Series events on Saturday and Sunday. He started the truck race from thirteenth and improve two spots for an eleventh place finish.

NASCAR Drive For Diversity Combine

Day 2 October 22 NASCAR Drive For Diversity Combine

Langley Speedway’s repaving last winter provided an added challenge for the 20 drivers participating in the 2013 NASCAR Drive for Diversity Combine. Not only did the already tough .4-mile oval get faster, it meant even the drivers who had previously competed in the Combine there faced new conditions.

The drivers passed that test Tuesday with flying colors.

After spending Monday at Hampton University with the fitness and iRacing evaluations, the drivers were eager to climb into one of three Late Models outfitted for the day-long practice session Tuesday. Each of the 20 drivers went out for individual sessions in the morning, and then returned to the car for longer single-car runs in the afternoon.

"It is a very demanding track," said Rev Racing CEO and owner Max Siegel. "We chose it initially so we can get a feel for the skills of the drivers. Our evaluation has expanded. We're giving them more seat time out there on the track. And just working here with the management at Langley Speedway and the NASCAR officials has been a great step for the program."

For many, like Paige Decker of Eagle River, Wis., it wasn’t just a new track, but a different car.

"I'm comfortable on this track, so it was really just learning how to ease into the gas," said Decker. "I'm used to driving a Super Late Model, so I'm trying to tone down my driving a lot for this kind of car."

Decker participated in the Combine last year. This year, her younger sister Claire and cousin Natalie also earned the opportunity to try out for the 2014 Rev Racing team.

Twenty drivers arrived in Hampton, Va., eager to show off their driving skills at the 2013 Drive For Diversity Combine. First, though, they were put through the paces Monday with the equally important off-track assessments at Hampton University.

This is the third year the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program – created in 2004 and now executed by Rev Racing – has partnered with Hampton. The NASCAR D4D program is designed to identify and train young female and diverse drivers at the grass roots level who demonstrate necessary talent to climb the ranks within the motorsport industries.

The drivers, who represent 12 U.S. states and Mexico and come from a wide array of racing experience, took part in physical training assessment as well as driver evaluation on Rev Racing’s iRacing simulators Monday.

“All of the drivers in this combine are going to come away from this experience better prepared as drivers,” said Marcus Jadotte, NASCAR vice president of public affairs and multicultural development. “In addition to gaining valuable seat time and direction from some of the leading officials in the sport, they’re also going to better understand the physical training that’s required to be successful in the sport.

“There really are no losers. One group – the group that’s selected – will obviously have an opportunity to race with Rev Racing. Those who aren’t selected will come away from this experience as better drivers.”
